Wings have no flavor and the pork fried rice is very bland. Hard as a rock the next day for leftovers. Sweet and Sour Chicken is also bland and too chewy. Needs major improvement with taste in these dishes. Also the fortune cookie was extremely stale - soft and chewy. read more

Third update to by this customer... A famous print ad from the 80s was headlined "You can't eat atmosphere." Now, aside from not using the correct term "ambiance", the thought is a perfect argument why you should try Fong's Garden. To start, there is no garden. Nor is there any ambiance of a higher elan than an overnight laundry. (I hear this will change, soon. Business idea: Fong's Natural Laundry Detergent!) You want ambiance? Try Echo where the Wonton Soup is near $20. FG's is just as good or better at under $6. There in lies the added fourth star. The chef is reaching his or her golden age. Having experienced Chinatown dining in Manhattan, Queens and San Francisco, I can attest Fong's Garden is right up there with the best. And right up there with the hugely higher-priced Breaker's restaurant, Echo. Mongolian Beef, a signature dish, is superb with tender protein and just the right amount of sesame and whatever else it is that makes it so much of a must order. Moo Goo Gai Pan is also what one would expect from a much more luxurious and expensive joint... Even the rice was well made. The wonton soup, five stars. And jee shucks, even the new Menu and logo are keeping it classy in the Palm Beaches. Getting back to the atmosphere thing, you also can't eat what you don't see on the menu. Big tip here: Ask about Egg Foo Young. FG will do the rest. Same for Won Ton/Egg Drop combo soup. In fact, I wonder if FG is doing a "double secret menu" just to tease us. If so, could Peking Duck be on our future? Please? Maybe for Chinese New Year? By then the back area Garden should be open with Fong's Garden branded blind folds available to spare your date the anti-pleasures of the small, spare few tables and chairs with views of the counter and walls. It's a WOW! Finally, after 7 years of searching the byways of West Palm Beach I found WOW Chinese food. I'm convinced West Palm Beach has the worst Chinese restaurants. Really bad. The best of these restaurants recently closed on Dixie Highway but it was not a WOW kind of restaurant. It was good and some dishes were WOW but not all. The Wonton Soup - eh. It was okay, but not WOW. So tonight I found Fong's Garden on Dixie Highway - WOW! I've passed it many times but never stopped because my wife - WOW - has lived in WPB's south end almost all her life and never tried the place. Doesn't matter now because it recently opened under new management and WOW. I "call" Chinese food by the first slurp of the Wonton broth. And the egg roll. Both WOWS at this newly managed Fong's. I was really nervous ordering at Fong's because my wife is under the weather and asked for matzo ball or wonton. Given that I've not found a WOW matzo ball soup I gambled on the wonton. Good move! Also took home egg rolls, sesame chicken and chicken and vegetables. So the wonton is not an all caps WOW but still a wow. The broth needs flavor. It's good, no funky taste, but no depth of flavor. Sesame chicken - WOW. Chicken and vegetables - wow. Take my WOW for it - Fong's is worth your time and money. Small on the inside - only 3 tables - but who eats in? Easy parking, too. Try it! Do not go here rude staff and dirty kitchen!!! My boyfriend and I have been going here for a while and it was great at first but standards have started to go down. The man at the front has been short with me in the past but I figured the food was good so not really a problem. Tonight we found a cockroach wing in the fried rice. We called the restaurant and the man answered we told him what we had found and didn't seem concerned or surprised at all. He said he didn't understand the problem and when we asked for a refund he said he couldn't give us a refund. We went back to the restaurant to show him and he asked where the rest of the roach was and didn't see a problem. After some arguing he agreed to refund us half the amount we paid for our food. I used to love this place but after how rude the staff is and how dirty they keep their kitchen I wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

Hot, fast, and tasty! My sister ordered the moo goo gai pan which was chock full of really fresh veggies and chicken. I got the garlic honey chicken which was like sweet and sour chicken only with a thin sauce of sweet tart clear sauce on the side. It was good...but next time, I'll stick with the traditional sweet and sour. Chicken spring rolls were a tasty alternative to the egg rolls they also offer, and the egg drop soup was only so so tasting. The fried rice was more like a brown rice, with no extra bits of onion or egg in it, but still tasty. The owner/order taker is brusque but efficient. There's no curbside, only inside pick-up. When I called from the outside to ask that two customers who weren't wearing face-coverings wait outside while I picked-up, the owner accommodated my request. He, himself, was wearing a mask and gloves. If you check out the health grades on this site for a few area competitors, you will find upwards of 15+ negative scores...this place received far fewer, and for that, they got our order. read more

Our biggest disappointment moving to Florida is the lack of a decent Chinese restaurant. From Naples to West Palm, "edible" seems to be a pretty high bar to pass. After reading reviews on this takeout spot, we thought perhaps we had missed something. Never judge a book by its cover. So we ordered. The food arrived hot. A plus. The first bite of pork fried rice was promising. Then we took a bite of the veggie spring roll. Perfectly wrapped and fried, it however , had virtually nothing in it. No veggies. The inside was a doughy bite with the occasional hint that a piece of cabbage should have been there. Nothing else. On to the mains. We ordered pretty standard fare - beef with broccoli (we asked for it to be made spicy) and a Szechuan chicken, a normally spicy dish on its own. Neither dish was spicy. In fact, both were devoid of any flavor at all beyond gelatinous sauce of some brown shade. Zero seasoning. Two bites and it was in the trash. So we opted for more rice and the fortune cookies. Long time establishment under new Management . Even though it was not on their new menu, they mad me a delicious Egg Foo Young. It was the best I had in a long time. The rest of the meal consisted of won ton soup, pork fried rice, chicken egg roll, and chicken chow mein. All equally tasty. From what I've heard, the restaurant is under new management. Admittedly, I had never tried Fong's despite it being a 3 min walk from me but I finally tried it and it was a pleasant surprise. The food quality is great and what seems to be fresh ingredients, not frozen and you can really taste the difference. I ordered a chicken in garlic sauce with fried rice combo and the chicken in garlic sauce was really flavorful and delicious. Despite the fried rice being cooked well and just tasting cleaner than most other Chinese takeouts, it did lack a depth of flavor. The portion sizes are ok but didn't feel like I got enough chicken in the order. Depending on if you want quality over quantity, this is the place. I will be trying them more often to see if any changes are made and what the rest of their menu offers! read more

I'm currently vacationing in West Palm Beach and I've been up and down Dixie Highway exploring local food establishments. I've had a lot of seafood since I've been here and I wanted something different, so I decided to roll the dice and try this place out. They have an excellent lunch special for only $5.95 which includes an egg roll, pork fried rice, a drink of your choice, and a selection of around 30 different vegetable / sauce / spice / meat combinations. I went with the curry chicken. It was a bit on the spicy side, but not intolerably so. The vegetables had just the right amount of "crunch" and the fried rice was good - not the best I've ever had, but a far cry from the worst. The service was very friendly, and very fast; I waited for only 7 minutes to get my order and I had not called ahead. Its definitely a great place to hit after a morning at the beach for an inexpensive lunch so you can head back out and enjoy the sand and surf. Another thing I noticed was that the establishment was very clean. I was a culinary specialist in the U.S. Navy for two years, and Fong's was kept as clean as we kept the galleys (kitchens) onboard our submarine. read more

Wow is all I can start with. I had avoided Fongs after a few bad experiences in the past, but a friend assured me he had been there recently and that things were better now. They are not. The egg roll was bland and tasteless. It's only flavor was that of the oil it was fried in. The dumplings were rancid and tasted of spoilage, with a chili oil dipping sauce? New ownership! After over 20 years of loving Fong's, it is under new ownership and it sucks. Everything has changed. The pork fried rice was boring and underseasoned. The crab rangoon, now super small, was overwhelming cream cheese with a dabble of pollock. The worse was the dipping sauce for the steamed dumplings, which I used to LOVE, now tastes like cough syrup. I could sense there was an effort to make things healthier, but it doesn't work and ends up distorting a menu that has been a fixture for West Palm Beachers who love Chinese in a box. Great take out. There are only two places in west palm that I go to for takeout and this is one of them. They take credit cards and the food is usually ready in ten minutes or less. Full of flavor no matter what you get and they can make anything spicy for you. Price is average for west palm and you will not be disappointed. I always get the garlic shrimp and the size of the shrimp is good. General Taso chicken is also good and has a little kick to it. read more
