Big group for a friends birthday on a Sunday night and we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Most of south park is quiet on Sunday evenings so this isn't unusual! Great spot with a great feel inside and nice modern decor. Really nice bar too. We had a great table for the 7 of us with plenty of space for us all and our food ! Our server was awesome and so attentive to us and our requests. Good food here. Something for everyone. Not the best Italian food I've had ever but was good. We had a bunch of things off the menu and shared it all. They also have drink and food specials everyday posted in the table Drinks were good too some classic Italian cocktails. And great wine list and beers too. Italian heavy as they should be! Guys had Peronis girls had cocktails. Negroni, Italian Paloma , espresso martini and Hugo spritz. All great and nice glasses and presentation. We had a lot of food ! The bread service is excellent, soft but light and airy. Great olive oil too. The polenta pour is a must ! So unusual, they pour polenta at a table by your table on a wooden plank and top it with toasted mushrooms, garlic sautéed spinach, Italian meatballs , Italian sweet sausage and tender rapini, which is broccoli rabe. It's a great visual and great for many people . You order per person and we just did 2 people and let me tell you it's plenty for 4 . We all ate off it from the center of the table along with everything else. Cool idea. Also we had the pumpkin ravioli, ribeye steak, which was cooked perfectly , funghi Campanelli, roasted tomato soup, Caprese flatbread and Cesar salad. All of this was excellent. I loved the pasta in the funghi dish ! Caprese flatbread was really good and the crust was nice and crunchy. The guys loved the steak. Then we had a few affagatos to round it all out and that was awesome and delicious too. So nicely presented too with a red mug of gelato and Amaretti cookie crumble and a little out of hot espresso . So good . I recommend either less gelato or more espresso. Little off in the ratio. But still very good and rich. We had a totally fun night here . Great new spot in South Park area. read more

Meh. I hate to write this, but it's important for the restaurant to take note - we wanted to like this place sooooooooooooo badly. Excited to give it a whirl on a Friday night. We arrived to be sat in the WORST table in the whole restaurant (and it was freezing cold in there, we sat on what felt like "chilled" chairs). The table was bad because the host and hostess had to bump us every time they walked other tables back (and then those customers bumped us) - this also happened when they delivered food. Seriously horrible table placement. We got bumped more than 10x before even ordering drinks. We questioned if it was a "what would you do" TV show about to have John Quinones pop out from behind a wall. On to the food/service - the waitress was pleasant and all, but she almost whispered. We genuinely couldn't hear what she said the first 5 mins of intros and specials but she did point to the things on the menu they were OUT of. (Too many for a Friday night). I wanted a hot drink - anything because I was so cold..... and she said, "I have hot water" - great, but no tea. No coffee? No tea? Nothing hot as my teeth were chattering? Nope. We ordered diet cokes. They came in mini glass bottles (ugh) and the martini one of my guests ordered was literally 1/3 full and was lousy. (Oh no). Now we were in too deep. 20 mins of staring at the menu, miss whisper returned and we ordered. The food was quite bland/boring. The chicken parm came with sliced provolone on top that was not even melted and a few sliced cherry tomatoes on top of that. Interesting. What was that?!? The pasta was cooked perfectly but the sauce needed salt as it genuinely had zero flavor. Some random guy who was quite personable saved us as he brought salt and cheese to the table. No idea where our waitress went - drinks sat empty, plates half emptied because we simply couldn't finish. She returned eventually and asked about dessert - we didn't bother to look. We'd have probably waited another 45 mins to get dessert and we continued to get bumped the whole meal. Again, she was lovely (from what we heard her say) but the lackluster Friday night simply soured us. Best part honestly? The taffy bins on the way out. We grabbed a couple pieces and they were great. Otherwise, I hope they can drum up enough of a crowd to keep their rent paid. Sadly it won't be us. Seems a few tables around us felt it was ok (but for a Friday night this place was pretty lightly filled) - maybe better seating would've changed our whole attitude. (And some salt & pepper on the table). It was weird to not even be offered any kind of bread either - if you want some kind of side or something to supplement the sauces, you likely need to order it. Came here on a Thursday with a group of 9. It was so cold inside the restaurant I couldn't even enjoy my food ! Their salads looked good, but it was too cold inside to order one. Some ladies left to get their jacket from their car and returned. Pasta is made in house. I got the rigatoni with pork sugo. Very good but had huge slices of garlic in it. If you bit a slice, it had a raw garlic taste that filled your whole mouth. I don't think they were cooked in the sauce, or if they were, they were thrown in at the last moments. No one ordered dessert. All we could think of was getting out of the freezing cold restaurant. Our server was pleasant and did a good job of trying to suggest additional items, but we were too cold to stay long. Some ordered a tomato soup appetizer but the cup was tiny for the price. The restaurant had comfortable chairs and a very pretty ladies' restroom. They had a pretty fountain outside. I would think twice about returning due to the temperature inside the restaurant... but if you decide to come, bring a jacket. read more

We loved the balance between comfort and class at Fontana! The arugula salad with pistachios and lemon vinaigrette is fresh, bright, and surprisingly memorable--a perfect start. The veal Parmesan is the real deal: tender, crisp, and smothered in rich tomato sauce and melted mozzarella, brought out and sliced at the table. Great touch! To finish, the creamy limoncello martini is a knockout--smooth, citrusy, and indulgent without being too sweet. Service was impeccable! Roman, our server, was warm and wonderful. We tried all his excellent suggestions. Kitty, the manager was so welcoming and kind. We felt compelled to pass the compliments of the kitchen and staff to her. Normally we shy away from new restaurants to give them a chance to work the kinks out. Decided to take a chance on this restaurant and we were not disppointed. One of the things that made the dinner special was Roman. He was fantastic, the couple joining us stated he could go anywhere and do great in a sales job. He led us through the menu and made great recommendations. My apologies, as usual we dove into the food without taking pictures of it all. Our reservations were at 630 and I was somewhat shocked at how few people were in the restaurant. However at 730 it was basically 70% full, so this place will make it. Based on the quality of food and the great service from Roman along with the attentiveness of the manager it has it all. Also dining at the bar is available and my wife said she would feel completely comfortable dining alone there. Our appetizers were Mozzarella Condimenti and the Fritto Misto. Both excellent. On to dinner we ordered, Spaghetti Pomodoro, Branzino, Raviolo en Brodo, and Cioppino. All were perfect! No room left for desert but we did scan the menu and saw many good selections. It will probably take 3-5 visits to make it through everything we would like to try on this menu. But we look forward to it, especially if Roman is working. read more

Very well prepared dishes. The calamari were young, and fried perfectly with lemon, red pepper, and served a light aioli. Perfect bronzino and hangar steak. The tomahawk pork chop (porchetta) was cut and served tableside. It was a fatty cut which made for a tender and delicious flavor. Two of us shared. We ordered sides of pasta with olive oil and garlic, and spinach sautéed with same. Both perfectly done. The wine list has a variety of types. We will be going back for sure. read more

Service was amazing! The Mozzarella Condimenti and the Roasted Potato were our favorites of the night. The 1/2 chicken was cooked perfectly, the side it came with was a pass. Our experience at Fontana di Vino (SouthPark, Charlotte) was extremely disappointing. We were a party of seven, and the food quality was very poor. The pumpkin ravioli was overly salty and almost inedible, and the pizza sauce was also excessively salty. We ordered burrata as an appetizer, and it was served cold, clearly straight from the refrigerator. Burrata should be served at room temperature, and we've never had it served cold at any Italian restaurant before. My husband's SpaghettiOs looked and tasted like canned food, possibly microwaved--completely unacceptable. To top it off, we were given only four slices of bread for seven people and had to keep asking just to get enough for the table. Overall, the food and service were far below expectations. We will not be returning and do not recommend this restaurant. read more

going to post my original google reveiw here. cancelled our reservation 2 hours before on NYE. we had placed the reservation a few days before and was told it was a system issue. would recommend getting that fixed before losing more potential customers. since no accommodation was offered, we will unfortunately not attempt to eat here in the future. after seeing the responses to other unsatisfied customers, i would be hesitant to eat here anyways. wanted to include the owners response to this and the voicemail that was left the day our reservation was cancelled, 2 hours before. seems another person had this same thing happen, yet the owner is lying about what happened. we did not choose to leave, we never came in because it was canceled and had to find a last minutes reservation somewhere else. although i cannot comment on the food, this is just bad business. would never give this establishment my money read more

Positives - the food was really good. Table side polenta and table side veal chop both well presented and tasted good. The cocktails were good. Needs help - the service & overall ambiance. Luckily I read a prior review about it being cold, its absolutely freezing inside. We chose to sit outside, plenty of seats as there were only two tables and one person at the bar all night.. Server was really nice but lacked significant service 101 training. She was timid and unsure of a lot. We ordered wine, the bottle we requested wasn't available so the next closest bottle ($35) more was suggested, we asked for a break on the price, no answer. They brought a decanter, asked if we wanted it, we said sure and they literally just left it on the table. They opened and let my friend taste the wine and then set the bottle on the table (never filled up her glass after the taste). They never poured anything. I decanted the bottle and filled all glasses throughout myself. The food took a long time for an empty place. The Entrees came while we were still working on our apps. They tried to place it all down at the same time. We didn't have room, asked for a minute and if they could clear first and asked for fresh plates. Seemed to be new concepts on both items. Refilled our water bottle once but other than that no interaction except for ordering and food delivery. The server was really nice, although dressed a bit odd and wearing too much perfume but just lacked confidence in basic serving skills and made the entire experience a miss. For the price of the food and drink, the ambiance being cold and strange and the service a miss, I'm not sure we'd try this place again. read more

This is an amazing addition to the restaurant scene in SouthPark. The staff has a great under standing of the menu and are all able to give you great recommendations; they are also very attentive to what you may need. It has a beautiful layout with indoor and outdoor seating available. Perfect for a date night or girls night out. The food was spectacular from the appetizers to desserts. We were excited about a new Italian restaurant in the area so we went there for dinner. Sorry no pictures but here's a rundown: * service was excellent from the minute we arrived until the time we left. * wine: mediocre selection marked up 3 to 4 times retail. Not bad for the area but really not a solid selection of wine. Food: burrata was very good. Calamari was horrible, tough chewing and way over fried. When we brought this up to our waiter he said, "sorry it's sometimes hit or miss depending on the chef. Hmmmm! Mussels were the hit if the night. Tasty and prepared very well. This restaurant went above and beyond! We had reservations on a Monday night for a business dinner for a group of 8 people. We arrived at the restaurant for our reservation only to find the front door open but the restaurant was completely empty. It took a couple of minutes but a chef and a server came out and told us to pick our tables we asked why the restaurant was empty and they said that they had just changed their hours and the were actually closed on Monday's but they opened the restaurant just for our group!! You can image our surprise and the look on our faces. The chef (can't remember her name) did an amazing job preparing all the food - we were shocked how she whipped everything up on her own and all with good timing. Our server, Roman, was amazing!! Roman was not only our server but our bartender. Roman has been my server there in the past and he's always so attentive and full of information. Without a doubt, we had the best pasta in Charlotte. The fusili was freshly made that morning and cooked to perfection. The Caesar salad had some twists that made it interesting while still providing the classic taste. My husband and I ate at the bar and Kaelie, the bartender, had perfect timing. My guess is that this restaurant will be closing its doors soon. Their story is that they're "changing their menu" so they had discontinued two of the three main entrees as well as the chopped salad. They were out of the flatbread appetizer. Even worse is that they were completely out of Tito's Vodka. (How does that happen and it's not replenished!!??) My black pepper pasta should have been a rich, creamy dish, but it was absolutely swimming in a pool of water...as if the chef hadn't even drained it. My husband's rigatoni was bland and tasteless. (He ate only about half, which is highly unusual for him!) I will say, the caesar salad was excellent, but that was the only positive. Nice server and a maitre d' who tries hard. But definitely won't go back. About a year ago, I went to a restaurant that was supposedly changing its menu so they were out of a lot of ingredients, and they closed a couple of weeks later. Wish I could do 3.5 as a rating, which would be more accurate. Good: Staff was incredibly friendly. Bartender, Roman, was fantastic. Chef came over to introduce himself at the table. Manager was seen roaming the floor. Our server told us he was new so hadn't had quite a few things on the menu. (Which, would perhaps be good to have the servers be able to sample more so that they are able to make recommendations, and honestly, encourage more sales!) We had the tableside polenta which was a treat and tasty, albeit not as warm as we'd have liked. We also had the chicken parm which was tasty, the chicken was light and not at all overly breaded, which was great. I wish it had come with slightly more rigatoni. Others in my party had the branzino (which received good reviews albeit the portion was a bit small), the flatbread (which was delicious) and the cauliflower, which was good. Drinks that Roman made were also delicious. Not so good: Ribeye was just ok. Pumpkin ravioli was just ok. All of our food was warm but not particularly hot. That may have been a result of what is by far the most challenging issue, which is that it was incredibly cold in the restaurant. They had one of the doors open, despite the fact that it was like 55 degrees outside. I asked about it and the host at first said that they are all moving around so much and working so hard that they don't get cold. Which, I can appreciate, though I do think there's something to be said about the comfort of your guests. They later said though that another challenge is that the door can be a bit hard to find so they have the door open to make it more clear where the entrance is. Which, fair point, because I could see how someone might get confused. All that said, I was terribly cold the entire time and just wanted to get out of there so I could get to some heat. Overall, I would give them another try because there were enough dishes that I liked and I continue to hear everyone rave about the pork chop (including one of my friends who was with us this night and who decided to get the steak instead of the pork chop which she's had several times before and then wished she'd again gotten the pork chop!). Also, because I appreciated the chef coming by to say hello and the friendliness of the staff. But if I walked in and it was again freezing, I'd turn around! I hope there is a better way for them to help folks find the front door besides freezing the guests out. read more

Excellent restaurant ! The food and presentation was some of the best we've had in Charlotte. Table side polenta pour was very well done. It was LOUD, but staff was able to seat us in a place that was accommodating to our party. The Host was excellent ! Our female server was a little too 'familiar' while we were dining. She stated the obvious many times, like 'i'm placing the salt and pepper' shakers. Could have been nerves ? May i suggest more training for the staff ? The restaurant decor was very inviting and modern. We were waited on promptly by Roman - he explained the menu and made some recommendations and then he got us some drinks. The drinks were very tasty and cold just the way I like them. We ordered the arugula salad and the various items in the salad marinated very good together. Their bread had a nice texture and was very good with the olive oil. We had the rigatoni and sphgetti. Both were delicious. The ambience is upscale industrial, nice energy. The food was very good. Pumpkin ravioli in a broth, not a cream sauce, is excellent. The portions are "normal" size. my companion and I shared the ravioli and the branzino, also very good. and split the caesar salad. it was not too much. a bit pricey. The service needs help. Our cocktails, salad and entrees, all arrived within minutes of each other - no!! Thereafter, our waiter was hard to find, nice man, just not in tune with the right service. I wanted to love this restaurant but unfortunately I don't see it lasting. We had heard a lot of mixed reviews and now we see why. The mozzarella appetizer is very small. The meatballs were very average. The $50 some dollar veal chop parm didn't come out hot and wasn't served with pasta which you would expect at that price point. We asked for a side of rigatoni with marinara and they wouldn't accommodate that simple request. The ambience is nice but at this price point, invest in table clothes instead of something that looks like a brown paper bag. Again, I wanted to love it but I don't see it lasting long. read more

We dropped in here tonight sans reservation for an early dinner and were enthusiastically greeted. The service seemed a tad over zealous, but the restaurant has only been open for 8 days, so we get it, and everyone was great. Better that than being neglected! The food flavors were very tasty. We shared the radicchio endive salad, which was admittedly over dressed, but very good. My husband had the branzino with spaghetti with stracciatella, both very good. But the portion size was on the small side, and we ate smaller people with small appetites. A 20% increase in size would not be out of line for these two items. I had the vongole (clams) and mussels with gnocchi. The dish was very good, but it was not gnocchi--rather very al dente radiatore pasta--still good but not what the menu said I was ordering. We considered getting the $8 gelato for dessert and asked the server how many scoops were served. He showed us one small scoop with his hands. We passed. Overall, the food was very good and we will definitely return after they find their stride. read more

Where to begin.. ordered a $57 dollar bottle of wine and was given $125 dollar of warm champagne. Then waited an entire hour before requesting the salad I had ordered Before told it would be longer. Waiter was very pleasant but seemed to forgot us after a while. The people sitting next to us had been there for 30 minutes prior to us and hadn't even received their salads at that point. They were also very irritated. This restaurant was definitely not prepared for regular service let alone Queen Fest considering there were only two parties seated outdoors. Indoors was not full in the least and only two people sat at the bar. Once our waiter informed us that "it'll be just a few more minutes" and it was 9:15 at that point with still no salad in sight, we requested our check. Obviously I could not possibly give this business a single decent review, As we didn't taste the food other than bread. Very disappointed as parents of children, we do not have the opportunity to date night very often. Save your time and $$!! read more
