Deja Vu? Can't remember if I've ever eaten here but this place was awesome! Yelpers have given this strip mall food kitchen nearly 5 stars! We were staying in Duck but the drive on the beach road made this trip so worth while. When I walk in to this place I feel the beach vibe. Young beach dudes in their flip flops gravitate to the small bar. The menu is somewhat fusion but it has standard grub for people like my hubby. They have a chalkboard of beer and other drink specials. Based on the hundreds of reviews we started with a Mac and Cheese appetizer and their non fried spring rolls. O.M.G that little bowl of Mac and Cheese took us by surprise: it was so delicious and smooth. The shrimp spring rolls reminiscent of the Vietnamese garden rolls were so refreshing. It came with a side of cucumber and tomato salad. Hubby ordered the most amazing pulled pork sandwich. The pork was plenty for one person. For an extra $1 he substituted chips and salsa with waffle fries. I am not lying when I tell you that these were THE best waffle fries in the world. I was so full but managed to squeeze in an order of awesome chicken wings. They make their own habanero sauce and it was HOT! The food is fresh. It's served hot. The staff is fantastic. Food Dudes has been a must stop every time we vacation here so it kills me to have to write a less than stellar review but what we recently experienced was definitely not 5 star material. The place is small but efficient, our servers were attentive and we got our food fast. Now the food is typically delicious. Think seafood items with a SoCal/Mexican flair, but my goodness, something was off this visit. I had the blackened Tuna bowl which was like $23 and half of the tuna filet I got was cold, like discernibly cold. I mean, I eat sushi but I ordered blackened tuna and it was a tad under cooked, rather unevenly cooked. Warm parts of the filet were nice. Under the filet was a melange of corn and black beans and avocado salsa, all things I thought I would enjoy, but no. I have never tasted black beans so strong, they overwhelmed the dish. Were they old or something?? I couldn't stop thinking about how they just didn't taste right and I couldn't eat anything with a black bean on it. Then there was the avocado salsa, oh my gosh, did the top come off the salt shaker back there? The saltiest thing I've eaten in a while. I looked at my son who couldn't finish his grilled chicken sandwich, "I said what's the problem?" His reply, "Too salty." Chicken sandwich comes with a big dollop of, you guessed it, avocado salsa. My daughter's enjoyed their meals, a bacon cheeseburger and a fish tostada thing. My wife really didn't say much about her meal, but after paying a hefty bill asked me if we were done with Food Dudes. And I don't mind shelling out the $$ for great food, which is one of the things we love about coming to OBX but this experience was not great. Also, on top of all the taxes diners at OBX have to pay, FD has started charging a credit card fee... WHat?! I spend $150 at your restaurant and now you are going to nickel and dime your customers $3.50 for using a credit card? Don't your menu prices incorporate business expenses like credit card usage or do you expect people to roll around with wads of cash like it's 1985? Been dieing to go here and with a foggy night here on the OBX, not much open on Tuesdays and said, tonight's the night. Had the blackened tuna and the blacken shrimp tacos. Tiny hole in the wall in a strip mall with far too few seats for the quality of their foodstuffs! We sat at the bar and enjoyed a fried Mahi Mahi wrap and a Grilled Shrimp bowl. The shrimp bowl special had corn salsa, pico, and guacamole, in addition to a half dozen large, perfectly seasoned shrimp. We had some white wine alongside, since they don't have a liquor license. Great place, the one that the locals go to because the food and service are so good. The dining area is a bit small, and the bar area would make up for that were it. It got the oddly small shaped bar stools. Come on Buddy, I know I'm Husky sized, but these bar stools were just plain uncomfortable midway through my meal. read more

This place is as good as advertised and I would give another star if YelpCorp would allow! Just excellent in every way. On my way back to NoVa from a great weekend in Ocracoke and was jonesing for the last little bit of OBX seafood for the road. This place had 415 reviews with an average of 4 1/2 stars...duh...what? It's a very unassuming place in a strip center on route 12 that you could easily miss. If not for Yelp, I would have never found a place like this. I had the mahi taco's with a double dose of them on a flour tortilla in a single order with a nice generous side of black beans and rice topped with pico de gallo, salsa and sour cream. The staff was very friendly and helpful, just a very casual & laid back vibe. A really great menu and even better prices. I ordered the cornmeal fried mahi mahi which came with tartar dipping sauce, waffle fries, and a chili lime slaw. I'm not much of a slaw fan, but the chili lime with cilantro was a refreshing accompaniment to the fried basket and was the standout for the entree. The mahi mahi was nicely fried and wasn't dry - there are three pieces of fish plus all the fries so it's pretty filling overall. My husband had the tuna wrap special which came with tortilla chips and pico de gallo and felt happy with his choice as well. Overall, we were pretty happy with the food. As a head's up, there is a $3 split charge if you want to share an entree. Seating is a little limited and it takes a bit of time for food to come out, but the staff is friendly! read more

This is really a 3.5 star review. Super easy to locate. A small lunch spot to enjoy numerous sandwiches, salads or wraps. Very friendly, laid back service. Baked wings were excellent (super chunky bleu cheese) and that cheez-it mac and cheese was a hit with our kiddo. I tasted it...amazing combo. My wife split our meals...pepper seared tuna taco and mahi-mahi tacos. Both of with a lot of slaw and nice proportions of fish. I was still underwhelmed by both. My Yelp review for yesterday Hit Food Dudes for lunch yesterday with the homies. We all ordered the blackened chicken nachos because, well they got the best nachos on the beach. Hands down! Love this place! If I had it my way we would have eaten there everyday. It is a wonderful small, whole in the wall, local dive. It's small so get there before dinner rush or get carry out. I have read the bad reviews and I didn't experience any of this. Maybe it was an off week. I met a couple who drove 45 minutes just to eat here. There are plenty of options to choose from. After looking around on yelp I came across this place. Their menu looked very appetizing so we went. And boy, this place did not disappoint!! We got 2 orders of their Mac & Cheese appetizer (which is topped with Cheeze-its!) and my family of 5 devoured it!! It was sooo GOOD!! For dinner I had the shrimp tacos and my wife had the shrimp quesadilla.... OMG!!! They were both delicious!! And they both had different tastes!! I put a little of their house Habanero sauce on my tacos... and wow!! I was impressed with everything!! My kids had chicken and a cheeseburger, and of course I had to sample it, it was delicious too. Best place we ate at all week (Aug. 2 - 9 2019) on the island! The only downside to this place is how small the location is. About five tables maybe plus a small bar but well worth the wait!! We ordered: wings (app), fries, two specials, blackened toastada, burger and a southwest steak wrap. Food came out quickly and was really fresh. I, myself ordered the blackened toastada with the fish of the day (which was Mahi Mahi). Fish was cooked perfectly, nice hearty pieces of fish. I topped it with the hot sauce on the table which was SO good. It is a sweet hot, with good spice but not burn your lips off spice. There is something for everyone here - seafood lovers or not. Highly recommend this place! If we ever come back to OBX, we would eat here more than once I think.
