It's really one of the hidden gems on the Virginia Dare Trail. I'd say to get there early for lunch as the seating area is kind of small, so our group was lucky to be waited on right away. And while the food is pricey, it's delicious; 'round the table the reactions were so good that this'll be a revisit when we return to the Outer Banks again. We were told we could wait outside for our takeout order and they would bring it to us. 30 minutes later, I go back in to ask about our order and turns out it had been sitting there ready for who knows how long. I believe that wrap is something to just fill your stomach but it's not something to rave about so before coming here I never thought that I will enjoy a wrap so much. My husband, son and I stopped in for lunch after visiting the Wright Brothers Monument. After a very hot day being inspired by invention, the tea was cold and the server (who happened to be super pregnant and still buzzing around like a little bee) was on top of refills! We all ordered the daily special crab cake sandwich which came with fresh pico and what looked like house fried tortilla chips. The sandwich was huge and so full of crab I wasn't sure what held it together. It was topped with a fresh corn salsa on a soft bun that had been grilled to perfection. We are from Texas and the meal could easily have been$30+ at home without tasting half as good. It was definitely a winner. The staff is friendly, even when they're slammed. The surf-inspired decor, local art, and surfing shown on thr TV all contribute to a cool local vibe. The brisket taco was amazing, completely blew away my expectations, the best food I had in outer banks. I tried this place because it's close to my house and I frequently see many people waiting to get a table ... now I don't see why they bother. I decided to give it a shot on taco night, the first mistake was calling in my order. The woman I spoke with on the phone was rude... but I decided to go ahead with it anyway (she wouldn't work for me, not in a service business). I ordered blackened shrimp tacos, a grilled mahi taco and an order of black beans and rice. The only part of the meal worth eating was the grilled mahi. The blackened shrimp tasted like dirt, the chili lime slaw was basically just cabbage, no flavor..... and as everyone knows black beans have to be cooked and seasoned well to have any flavor - these tasted like they came straight from the can. The Good. The Bad. And the Ugly. Prologue. My family of five arrived at our hotel, unloaded, and came straight here. Staving and trusting to Yelp reviews. Good job Yelpers. Didn't let us down. Enough exposition, now to the main attraction. The Good. My 15 year and I old split an appetizer of wings. Wings had a great grilled flavor, but happily that grilled flavor wasn't enough to overpower the hot sauce (we hate when that happens). Hot and tangy with some island overtones. We asked for it hot, which the waitress told us means they add habanero hot sauce (which is on the table, points for real hot sauce) to their regular wing sauce. It had a nice back of the throat after burn. My younger kids had cheeseburgers. I go to steal the last few bites from my daughter and it was really good. Great flame broiled taste layered on beefy goodness. They didn't order anything gourmet, just American cheese on dead cow. Yummy. The waffle fries were really good. I'd guess they were homemade, not frozen. My 15 year old went for the pulled pork sandwich. It was Eastern Carolina style, but with the hot wing sauce (seemed hotter than it did on the wings, he said) slathered on top. Again, I stole a bite (that's how I roll) and the pork was really nice. Good seasoning blend coming through in the meat. Came with nachos and homemade fresh salsa. Nice. I ordered shrimp enchiladas and I don't know why. I don't particularly like Mexican food unless it is very authentic or really high end (nice dinners out, not let's grab lunch with friends from the office), but something about the description spoke to me. And I'm happy it did. Really flavorful shrimp with some sort of queso blanco that was great. My wife's meal is in The Ugly portion of this review, we'll get there. The Bad. Now, the bad isn't that bad. It was just meh, but "The Good, The Meh, and The Ugly" doesn't trip off the tongue. The rice and beans with my enchilada were unimpressive. Not really bad in themselves, just not up to the standard of the rest of the meal. I ate them. I finished them. They were better than a hole-in-the-wall "get the number 5 combo" place, just not worthy of being on the plate with the great enchiladas. So, meh in comparison to the company they keep. And the place is small. I mean very small. Really small. Less seating than a takeout Chinese place. We were really lucky to walk in at the right time to get the only free four person table and pull a chair over. A couple would need less luck because there is counter seating. Now, this is only bad because it can keep you out, it in no way hurt our meal otherwise. The Ugly. My wife wanted to leave me after her meal. She had coconut encrusted fried mahi-mahi with an island salsa and she made inappropriate noises with every bite. She "offered" to let me take the kids outside after the meal and she'd take care of paying...but that's because she then went back to the kitchen to meet the Food Dudes in person and profess her undying love. When Thursday came rolling around I knew it was time to go to the Food Dudes to enjoy Taco Thursday. If you are thinking about coming here during peak season on the OBX, make sure to get to their place a little bit earlier to ensure that you can get seating. The place is located in a strip shopping center and is what I'd consider a hole-in-the-wall since seating is limited. What it lacks in seating it makes up in flavor. The fish taco came with grilled mahi and the flavor was spot on, the fish was firm and flaky and the chili lime slaw gave it the nice bit of acid needed to bring all the flavors together. The pepper tuna seared taco reminded me of tuna tataki that you could get if you went to a sushi bar. The tuna was tender and is cooked to order (purist will want to order it rare), one thing I loved about this taco was the wasabi aioli which gave me that little wasabi kick that I like to have when I eat sushi. My final taco in the trio was the fried flounder taco, talk about a revelation in fried fish! It was served fresh and hot and the breading on the flounder was perfectly light and crisp. The taco did not live long and after the last bite I was completely sated. I was very happy with each and every Taco that I ordered and ate, and for the price it can't be beat. If you happen to be in the area on Taco Thursday, come early and bring your appetite, you will not go away hungry. Of the three tacos, the the Fried Flounder Taco was my clear favorite. Highly recommended for those looking for an gastronomical adventure and are willing to try something new. read more

Best hollandaise I've ever had! It was so light and not overly buttery. Our brunch was great here. We had the sweet potato biscuits with ham and applesauce which were a great spin on the biscuit and ham classic. My boyfriends sausage crab frittata was very good. I preferred the grilled one base on consistency. The restaurant is super compact so there was a wait- ended up grabbing a seat at the bar. Lots of drinks to choose from.
