When looking up some information on a brewery this business popped up and we just had to check it out. We were greeted right away and looked at the menu for the cocktails that were available. They offer gin or whiskey drinks. There are lots of tables and tall bars to sit at and relax. The bartender was very friendly and told us about their products since we had not been there before. You can only order two drinks per person. We tried the Tallahassee and the Orgeat Gimlot as well as the Sea Donkey. All drinks were very tasty. We will be back next time we are in town. They only had Juniper Gin for both tasting and cocktails so not quite the distillery we had in mind! The gal at the counter was super sweet and inviting and the gin was smooth and sweet as well. We stopped in here on a soggy Juneau day fresh off the cruise ship. I loved the big copper distillery and and the open seating. Got some delicious cocktails at Amalga Distillery, so no complaints! My strawberry spruce bursted with strawberry flavor, but was completely balanced. Mr B enjoyed his grapefruit rosemary gin and tonic too. Loved the ambiance, as we sat in two comfy chairs overlooking the pretty mountain, and some downtown sites. LOVE Amalga!! First learned about Amalga when dining in Anchorage. Make sure to stop in every time I'm in Juneau. The menu changes frequently, daily even, so be sure to check it out! So I'm still catching up on reviews of all the places we stopped at on our cruise last summer - this review is from last June, though I doubt they've changed much, other than presumably being less busy during the no-cruise-ship season. Though it wasn't that busy when we were there, either - there were plenty of seats, with a vibe less like a traditional distillery, more like a coffee shop, a place you could hang out for a bit. I was just here to try spirits, though - and their spirits are top notch. Unlike really anywhere in California, you can try a sample of their spirits at no charge - at the time, they had two products available. First, a very smooth, seriously flavorful gin made with locally sourced botanicals (exactly the sort of gin I look for in a craft distillery! Definitely bought a bottle!), and secondly, a wonderful cognac-barrel-aged whiskey. Also unlike California, distilleries in Alaska are also allowed to sell you cocktails (yay for weird local liquor laws - people complaining about only being able to be served two drinks, at least they can serve you any!) I was just there to try the spirits, but while I'd been spoiled by all the complimentary cocktails, being midway into a week-long cruise, there was also a total lack of craft American whiskey on the ship, just a sea of JD and Maker's, so I had to try their house old fashioned. Obviously, it was also wonderful, and (at the time, a few months ago), only $10. Lot pricier than "free", but very worth it. Even more so if your drinks aren't all comped for a week once you make it back "home"! Oh, they also have $5 canned pre-made cocktails with their gin, and having now gotten home and opened them, I can confirm, they're also great. I love gin and appreciate anywhere that specializes in gin. This gin is delicious, flavorful, reminiscent of the majestic pines that cover the land here, and packs a punch! I had the classic g&t with house made tonic for the true test and could have drank it all day. I also got the raspberry fizz and it was so refreshing. The big stand out was their rhubarb g&t. The space is beautiful, light and airy great for casual chilling and meet ups. I love the pink bubble lights!!! The canned cocktails are also amazing and as someone who doesn't like beer, I appreciate a grab and go canned option when everyone else in my group is reaching for a can of beer. read more

They make their own gin and whiskey and the big barrel houses 1000 gallons of beer that after 2 times distillery gets to 50'gallons production only at 80% alcohol level. I simply loved this distillery while on vacation in Juneau and went here about three times! Amalga makes such fantastic mixed drinks I'm simply in awe! Weather was getting gray, windy and rainy(which we love except the wind) and coming in here on some evenings perfectly closed the evening. My favorite it their Hot Toddy but I had their version of a Mule among others as well during our visits here. The staff are so friendly and cheerful... very refreshing! This is a really cool distillery right here in downtown Juneau. They had one of the best whiskeys I have ever had. The cocktails that they made with the whiskey were a little too sweet but the bartender re made our drinks and they turned out great. Wow, when are we going to get a place like this in Anchorage? Amalga is more effortlessly hip than just about any spot in Anchorage. It's got it all: Location: right on a downtown street corner with massive windows which give way to massive views. Presentation: everything is clean and sparkly, it has a local vibe. It's not a tourist trap. (although I'm sure it does trap tourists!) Drinks: they have cocktails on tap. Usually this isn't something I'm thrilled about, but they are so well done! I like this place for its location near where I work when I come to Juneau, but parking is always difficult downtown and Amalga gets busy and uber loud. The drink selections are somewhat inventive but limited. I'm used to tasting rooms that actually let you converse with staff and learn about their craft and products (so you will buy some to take home), but AK laws prohibit sitting at the bar area (and a host of other ridiculous things) because of the bar lobby. Apparently bars don't understand how they have shot themselves in the foot by forcing faster turn over at tasting rooms so more patrons can be served. Try the "bourbon" before you fork over $70 for a bottle. read more

This was literally catty corner walk across from our hotel the Westmark Baronof In Juneau. We went basically every day for our allowed 2/per person Gin cocktails. No food just Gin. No music just Gin. No seating at the bar - standing okay - just Gin. We love the two owners and this cool Distillery. Gins change day to day but in the summer we had their Rhubarb and Ginger Beer Gin pours. They give tastes too and we picked up a special limited edition bottle we'll break open at our house warming party! When you two coming back to Anchorage to do more tastings!?!
