I was pulling off the interstate in the middle of a long trip, expecting to find some fast food, but this little restaurant was what I saw first and looked a lot more interesting. I was not disappointed: I had the pulled pork sandwich, and let me tell you these people know their business. Some of the best bbq of my life, on a sturdy fresh sandwich roll and with some delicious in-house sauces, and crunchy kettle-fried chips on the side. Very friendly and attentive service. I wish I took photos of my food but it was delicious. I got the pulled pork sandwich which came with slaw and I order two extra sides of collard greens and steamed broccoli (because when in a new town, you try as much as possible). After traveling for about 5 hours on a college road trip, we found Foothill Momma's BBQ Juke Joint as our lunch stop. My family and I got our meals to go. After about a 20 minute wait for the food, I was stoked to get authentic southern BBQ, being that I am a northerner. I got the brisket panini. While the meat and sauce was very tasty, the meat itself was a little on the tougher side. When I bit into the sandwich, the whole slice of meat came out. Personally, I don't mind that...messy food is a sign of good food. The chippers that came with the sandwich were well seasoned and crispy. The coleslaw was amazing. I could eat that stuff for days. Stopped by this place for dinner when we were staying a night in Lexington, VA. The three of us had beef briskets and fried catfish platters. Enough food for us two women and one man. The catfish was fried to perfection, was a very generous portion too, and just kinda took its time melting in your mouth. It was amazing. The beef brisket was too salty for my taste, but my boyfriend liked it very much and gave this place his stamp of best bbq out of the three places he happened to dine at this week. They were closing early, but didn't hurry us out, and even asked if we were feeling like doing any desserts that night. I'm sure those homemade desserts would've been great, were it not for the fact that we were very pleasantly full. Will stop by next time we're passing through. Oh, and be sure to go to the correct town and stop on the street - GoogleMaps had us at wrong points twice. Holy smokes!!! I'm a Texan and used to eating the best BBQ in the world. Since moving to Lexington VA we have sorely missed beef brisket BBQ. Va is known for pork BBQ which doesn't do it for me. We found that "Delta Blues Beef Brisket" platter is as good and maybe better than many Texas joints can do. It's the only non smoked meat on their menu but it is slow cooked and garlic and beer and then you have a choice of three BBQ sauces. (I suggest the Sweet and Spicy). Somebody should tell the new owners (Oct 2019) that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I've eaten here once a week or more for several years. New owners purchased just after the place won "Best BBQ in VA", and they immediately dropped several favorite menu items, shrunk the portion sizes, and substituted some previously cooked in-house items with frozen food service stuff! Today was my third shot at seeing if my old favorite restaurant would come up to par, but didn't happen. Item tasted fine but SIGNIFICANTLY smaller for same price. So can no longer justify hanging out there. Bummer. read more

WOW! Fantastic X 10000 What a great place, Foothill Mama's has it all! I stopped in on a cold snowy day, needing a break from I81 I almost went to a chain for linch, I am very glad I did not. First of all, super nice people, my waitress was so pleasant and cheerful, she even questioned why I was ordering so much food! I simply told her that I had to try the nachos, a meal in itself, layers of freshly made potato chips layered with the BEST smoked pork and cheddar cheese with some kind of yummy white sauce. I then got the platter combo, more pulled pork, sausage and the brisket, each one better than the next. My sides were the best creamiest mac-n-cheese and Papa Harris's baked beans. I love it when the owner/cook comes out to see how you like the food. The sauce was so terrific I took a pint home with me. LOVE this place; will be back often. read more

Saw the reviews on yelp so detoured from 81 to hit this spot. I had catfish appetizer which was more like a meal and hubby had BBQ nachos. He loved the machos and especially the Cole slaw. Stopped in for a late lunch while delivering kid to VMI. Saw reveiws and got excited as I love good BBQ. Small place and not very crowded but it was after prime time lunch time. Got the BBQ platter with cornbread, coleslaw, potato salad. BBQ was pretty bland and had not real flavor - the house sauces were nothing terrific, coleslaw had no taste and the cornbread was dry but saved by the honey butter. Tried wife's chips and they were nothing special. Son said the burger with bacon and BBQ was good. Will be looking for some place else to try next time I am up that way. read more

The Barbecue stands up to any I've had in the Carolinas, Memphis or KC. The meat is moist and tender, good smoke but not overbearing. My only complaint is the limited selection of sauces. Their Cackylacky sauce is a good Western NC sauce, but I prefer Eastern NC style. This is a trivial complaint, though. The meat is the star of the plate. I must say that I'm addicted to their house-made potato chips ('chippers,' they call them) and their collard greens. I've not had much occasion to venture around their menu, because the BBQ is so good. If I had another complaint, it would be that their beer selection is lacking. The solution to that is to get your order to go and take it to the Devils Backbone Brewery Outpost a few miles away. The service is also outstanding. Jo makes me feel at home every time I'm there. Well worth seeking out if you're anywhere near Lexington. I'd call it 100-mile BBQ (worth driving 100 miles out of your way for), since I drive 100 miles round-trip to eat there. read more

Do NOT let the smoker in front fool you! Pros: they used real meat and not a pressed meat like many fast food places. That's all the Pros! Cons: there wasn't a bit of Smokey flavor to the meat, it was bland and SUPER dry, the regular sandwich didn't have a lot of meat on it, the bun was old and hard so we ate it with a fork... but wait, our carry out didn't have any napkins or silverware and luckily we noticed before we left and were able to go back in and ask for some. Guess she must have thought without asking that we were going home to eat but we are traveling. The house chips were soggy. The mashed potatoes were extra thick and chunky even though they were redskin. They were supposed to have garlic and cream cheese but I think they forgot it today, esp the garlic. Overall: travelers don't let the smoker fool you, keep going down the street to one of the other quick eats. Definitely not returning and can't recommend unless you want unflavored, super dry meat and unappealing sides. read more

I love this place. The pulled pork is amazing. The combo platter is a great option if you want to have their tasty chicken but can't resist have the pulled pork.
