A cool little vibe for a coffee shop. Was impressed with the coffee as well as the size of the breakfast options. The breakfast burrito was tasty and filling. For coffee, I ordered "The Five" which was a nice change up for me. It had cold brew, dark chocolate and a few other things that I can't fully remember. It was supposed to be garnished with an orange peel according to the sign in the store, but did not find one in my drink. Regardless, both coffees were still enjoyable! read more

I stopped by For Five Coffee and the space is very cute and aesthetic. It was not busy when I went, and service was quick. I ordered a latte, but it just was not for me. I think it came down to the bean or roast not matching my taste. Nice spot to sit, just not my favorite coffee so far. read more

Paid over $8 (excluding tip) for a small chai with regular milk, which I know this is New York but it just felt too steep for me. Chai was fine but absolutely nothing to write home about. They also don't have a bathroom which is annoying. read more

What a great coffee shop this is. The baristas are very nice, the music played here is great and it is a spacious and clean shop. They have places to sit to enjoy your coffee and pastries. I did not have any pastries but I had a cappuccino which was good. If I find myself in the area again I would go back and try out other of their coffee drinks. read more

I first have to wonder what is wrong with the people who posted one star reviews. The experience that they describe is not this place. This place is very trendy with great staff. No wonder it was completely empty inside. The young lady behind the counter seemed annoyed that I was there and was very stand offish. I ordered a cortado with oat milk and an almond croissant as well. I got it warmed up. The cortado seemed like a 1/4 of what it should be and the almond croissant was stale and the filling was bland but overly sweetened. The damage was 17$. I could not believe it. 6.25- cortado 6- almond croissant. Approx 13.34$ which means a little more than 3$ for warming a croissant and a splash of oat milk for a small cortado. I understand it's time square but I'll pass! read more

They overcharged me significantly and never returned my email or call. They charged nearly $10 for water that I never received, and they overcharged me for coffee I didn't even order. There are better places across the street in Port Washington. read more

Well, ya know, I don't like Times Square, especially not on a rainy day, but if you're pulling in bank to pay the rent for your coffee shop that's gotta tell you something. I came in today because I won a giveaway from the gram, i of course couldn't get to one of the other locations that serve some awesome looking 'foodular' items, so I opted for Times Square which is a 20 minute walk from work if you're a long legged type of fatty like me who always has the right of way and a stone cold, man on a gimme coffee mission, kind of exterior... I digress. Arriving promptly 19 minutes after I ventured out between rain bursts for my "2 drinks, 2 cookies, & 2 pastries instead of 2 meals" (lucky me) I asked for the man in charge, announced my presence and waited for the red carpet and trumpets! Instead I ordered the two drinks and picked out two cookies and waited patiently. It was what it was... pretty busy, everyone seemingly chill and satisfied; good sign for ForFive. I got: 1. The iced chai and iced lavender latte were both great! Quality was awesome! Customer service was an opportunity. One person working and she didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Medium noise level. A few places to sit and have meetings or work and study. Condiment bar was dirty and needed to be restocked and wiped down. read more

Went into a completely empty store, the employee who was leaning over the counter couldn't be bothered to even look up to take our order. When he finally did he had a horrible attitude. Not only was the service terrible the drink was way overpriced ($10 for a small iced latte?) Never going back and I suggest you avoid as well. read more

I'm familiar with this establishment and over the years they've opened even more locations. My preferred location is the one in Manhasset in Long Island, but this review is for the one in the Manhattan's theater district. I tend to avoid this location for a number of reasons, but it's conveniently located near my job. The vibe is mot the same as the others, which are warm and inviting. This location has a cold feel, is nearly always out of products, the staff tends to be extremely lazy and unfriendly as if they're doing you a favor, and it's always cold inside whether it's winter or summer. I really think whoever does the hiring should make sure that they train their staff properly on how to interact with customers who pay a premium for coffee and cookies. On a positive note, the coffee really is good and their cookies are soft and delicious (albeit expensive!). Yesterday the rainbow cookie I bought was fresh out of the overnight and smelled and tasted amazing, was soft and goey, exactly how it should be. read more

Maybe it's just me, but NYC coffee shops hit differently because of their sound systems lol. Clear quality and here I was vibin' to Childish Gambino's "Feels Like Summer" with that extra reverb, phew~~~ Anyway, out of all of the coffee shops that I have bookmarked in the city (tourist here), I sought out this one particularly because of the cookies and, boy, you *have* to get the caramel cinnamon apple one if you're a huge fan of Dutch apple pies like I am. It's pretty much a pocket-sized version of it. Amazing crispy streusel topping on top. Probably a top 5 based on all of the cookies that I've ever had lol. As for the coffee here, the pour over is super smooth. Not much bitterness at all. One of the better pour overs that I've had for sure. The reason why I docked a star is because of the service. Cold demeanor especially from the cashier man who wanted to rush my order (he quickly said a grand total cost even though I was still looking at the cookie display). There was no one behind me waiting to order and the place wasn't busy. The barista who handed my drink didn't seem friendly either. Overall, I'd say that if you're in the area (and you don't mind meh service) this coffee shop is worth checking out (you have to grab a cookie if you do)! read more

I love this place! My friends and I all ordered different lattes, and one of my friends even said her iced vanilla latte was the best she's ever had. She asked for oat milk and normally, at most coffee shops, the oat milk dilutes the coffee and makes it not as milky. However, her iced vanilla latte was super creamy and had a really nice vanilla flavor. I ordered a macadamia milk matcha latte, and it was delicious! The matcha flavor was really strong, and it was also slightly sweet too. I would come again! Like the other reviews say, coffee is pretty expensive but I don't mind at all. read more

Oh yes! Had the Gotham mocha -perfect! Just perfect. Not too sweet dark chocolate amazing. I'm coming back. :-) and what a beautiful, bright, modern coffee house! Exceptional. I can't understand the rave reviews. Mediocre coffee at best. Walked here bc I'm always on the hunt for great coffee places. I'd already had Blue Bottle twice during my time in NYC and this place was a local roaster with rave reviews. Came in on a Tuesday morning, with only 3 ppl in line ahead of me. Ordered the Gotham mocha with oat milk extra hot. Horrible Lukewarm drink with no hint of mocha! Also delivered to me with spillage over the counter. Garbage customer service and garbage coffee. I came on a weekday afternoon. Vibe: the inside is bright and spacious, which gave me a good mood. There're some seats inside and only 2-3 customers at the time I visited. I stayed there for about 30mins and it's been quiet inside the store. I would say this is a good place to read/take a short break from work when you're nearby on a weekday afternoon. Coffee: I ordered a hot flat white and a chocolate croissant. Both are ok, the flat white lacks some coffee flavor. Would visit again if I'm nearby and craving for a cup of coffee. read more

Tried their matcha and it is strong but still smooth. While the drink is good, I'm a bit disappointed in everything else. None of the seating tables were clean (I wiped a table myself and there was no other customers), they have signs for wifi but the router was off so I had to use hotspot, and the staff was generally rude and begrudgingly sharing information. I wouldn't come back because there are a plethora of cafes in NYC and this one just does not stand out. Also no bathrooms at this spot read more

What we ordered: Iced Latte, Pour Over, Almond Croissant, Chocolate Chip Muffin The pastries were fine, nothing to write home about. The coffee: yikes. The latte had bitter notes and would not have been drinkable if not for the milk. But the latte was nothing compared to the pour over. When we asked for the pour over, the barista told us it would take 10 minutes to prepare. TEN MINUTES. When he said this, we honestly thought it was so we wouldn't keep asking when it was going to be ready. So we went with it. But he actually took 10 minutes to prepare the coffee. We watched the barista make the coffee and were horrified to see it just sit there and drip for 10 minutes while he prepared other orders. By the time the pour over was ready, we had eaten the pastries and almost finished the latte. The coffee was absolutely horrid. Extremely bitter, over extracted, no care put into it at all. On our way out, we saw a sign that said the coffee was roasted locally. It got us thinking how good beans and a good roast mean nothing when the coffee prep is subpar. Will not be visiting again. The latte I bought was quite large. We came here at 3:15 pm on a Saturday, expecting it to close at 4 based on the hours on Google. However, they closed early at 3:30. It's a pretty empty coffee shop with nice vibes. Definitely would try to come back to read or work next time. read more

This is a quaint shop with some great food options inside and huge fresh-baked cookies for sale. I walked past while heading to an appointment in the diamond district and needed my fix. I ordered my usual, a soy latte and found it to be flavorful and delicious. I sat inside for a while and asked about the cookies, to-go salads and overnight oats. The to-go items looked very appetizing and the cobb salad was large with tons of fresh items inside. Very good quality. The cookies are huge and about $6 a cookie with tons of yummy out of this world flavors that are different. I was looking for a place to get work done in this area and am so happy I stumbled upon this coffee shop! It is very modern and clean on the inside. They have a great variety of coffee/espresso drinks and teas! I got an iced latte. The service was efficient and the taste was great. I also thought it was a bit cheaper than other craft coffee spots in the area. I also appreciated the good amount of seating. It was a good spot to pause in the midst of Times Square craziness. Such a disappointing experience here... I wish we walked away when we got charged almost $20 for two lattes. When we were there, the huge menu clearly says $5.25 for a large and even with the extra shot of espresso in one of the lattes, the total should not be $20... Unfortunately, I was too quick to tap and pay, only realizing a second later that the total didn't add up. When we questioned the total and suggested that the staff rang us up wrong, he casually said that their prices have been changed but not yet reflected on their menu. Coffee was average and if anything the one with the extra shot tasted pretty much the same as the one without. Not sure if they finally updated the menu to reflect their increased prices, but it's pretty ridiculous not to have updated prices displayed or even bother mentioning the increase. read more

Zamnnnnnnn Five Stars for Five Coffee Roasters because I loved it. While I was visiting NYC and putting on my tourist hat, I was in dire need of coffee after running around Times Square trying to snag RUSH tickets for a broadway show. I wasn't in the mood for a small bite at the time but they have plenty of baked goods to enjoy and I appreciatted their menu. The decor was very welcoming and I loved the high ceilings. For those of us who enjoy studying/working out of coffee shops they had three work tables in the very back. The rest of the seating is bar seating against the walls except for a two person table underneath their "mantra wall". My iced latte was delicious and what I enjoyed was that it wasn't sweet and very well balanced. The coffee they source is very high quality and I didn't feel a sugar crash with their in-house syrup. Solid spot if you're in the area and you have to check it out. Went on a Saturday and they do close earlier just a heads up. read more

Along with more traditional drinks, they also have fruit options as well as black sugar jelly (I presume kuromitsu) and a Japanese citrus that's not seen much here, hyuganatsu. Along with the citrus, this place is rather unique as they had three different matcha options in terms of variety. As I tend to prefer teas pure and without add-ons, I ordered the Matcha Americano, which is simply matcha and water. I went with the 12-oz version for $6 + tax and ordered the Hajime, though I would likely get the Fuku No Midori next time based on descriptions online. The matcha was solid and had a mild sweetness and a light earthiness. However, it lacked some of the mouth coating found in very high-quality drinks from Sorate or Setsugekka, while being similar in price. Still, that is comparing to some of the best, and this was still very tasty and a lot better than 90% of the places in the city, being more comparable to Kettl. And I commonly see the upstairs for private events like baby showers, bridal showers, or birthday parties on social media. After dinner with my friends, I was looking for dessert and I was glad to see this location closes relatively late on a weekday night at 11 pm. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! FYI - there are two unisex restrooms in the rear for customers to use with really cute wallpapers too.

Originally I wanted to try the strawberry matchamisu, however, was told that it sold out. What a bummer. The rose milk tea came with a themed pot and cups which is really cute. The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.

I needed a sweet pick-me-up after missing a train home. While the ice cream flavors looked interesting, I opted for a blue coconut iced matcha latte instead. Aside from the striking visuals, the drink tasted great. There was sweetness from the matcha and the coconut but not super overtly sugary. I also got a box of four donuts. They're a little pricey, but each donut is a pretty hefty ring of chewy glutinous rice flour batter. I had them the following morning, and the donuts still tasted fresh. There was a little bit of oiliness from the frying, but it did not taste off or too greasy. I think this is from the meticulous frying process and good management of the oil. I got the Cookies and Cream, Rose, Lavender, and Pistachios. I loved the Rose and Lavender flavors, especially the lavender which had a solid floral flavor without being perfume-y. I look forward to trying other donuts and sweets from Bear Donut in the future!

It's a really big space - there's a lot of seating both downstairs and upstairs. The pastries are a little bit pricey. I tried the mango cake and also the black sesame rice cake. The rice cake was good, but the sporks they give you are completely useless against the rice cakes. The mango cake was about the blandest cake I've ever had in my life. One good thing is that, at least on the upper level, they do not rush you out whatsoever. You can literally stay for as long as you want.

The strawberry croissant had fresh strawberries and cream and it was the perfect breakfast after a run in Central Park. It was easy to get to walking down from the Bryant Park area. When we got there it was busy, but not too busy. My wife and I split a slice of chocolate mousse cake. The price is just right for the perfect size slice for sharing. On our prior trip it was a lot busier and it took a while to get a seat so we could eat. This time it wasn't as crowded and we were able to sit right away after getting our slice. On future trips to New York we'll definitely have to come back and try some of the other items available.
