I've been here twice, once to pick up a treat for someone else and once for myself. Both times I got their stuffed cookies, plus a cinnamon roll one time. The cinnamon roll wasn't exciting, but those cookies... wow. The one I had was strawberry cream, a sugar cookie with a soft, strawberry cream center. That cookie was perfect. The outside had a bite to it, a little crunchy, but the cookie inside was soft. And the strawberry center was, too, almost the consistency of cookie dough. It was still a little warm when I bought it and that made it so much better. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other stuffed cookie flavors! read more

This is the type of place most coffeehouses aspire to be - clean, beautiful, hip, and serving interesting and unique items. I had already eaten breakfast so I passed on the full menu of hot sandwiches and breakfast entrees (pancakes!). The baked goods are beautiful and well displayed. My only quibble so far was the counter person's inability to tell me one of the key ingredients in one of their items. I went here to try it out and got some dishes as well as the matcha latte. The matcha latte was good and so were the Korean Bao Buns. For the Dolsot Bibimbap just be aware that they use brown rice and add Brussels sprouts (which kind of threw me off), so don't expect a traditional bibimbap. The cookie was also very good! This place was so good, I came here every day for breakfast while I was in town. And it wasn't just the food. I got just a regular coffee, which was so good it didn't need any sugar and barely any creamer. Their 24 hour oatmeal was on point. So many awesome flavors combine. The staff was just as great as well. My barista was so friendly, even recognized me on just the second day and remembered my order. Handle unexpected circumstances with grace and intelligence. Came on a wednesday, it was loud and busy from 10:30-11:30am but its a big enough place to still get work done with headphones. the aesthetic is really nice. my cold brew coffee with oat milk was really good along with the spicy rigatoni i ordered for lunch. it gets busy again around 2-3pm but i was still able to focus and get work done. the employees are really nice and personable. i am overall pleased with this shop on L st and will be returning. read more

I usually don't like to complain about pricing in DC because I know how expensive rent and everything can be. However, for five is on another level. They charge $20 for oatmeal. While I know they may look at themselves as a "brunch" spot, oatmeal is cheaper at even full service restaurants. There are a lot of students and office workers around too. Do they really think people will spend $20 everyday for breakfast? Everything else is also insanely expensive. Coffee cake is like $10 and a latte is $7. The quality is average at best and their pricing is just confusing. They cut corners by doing things like keeping their nitro coffee in a can. It's like they don't want people going there. read more

Came in today to work while waiting for my partner to be finished with his medical procedure nearby. Very satisfied!! The barista was so friendly, my iced caramel latte, croissant, and chocolate chip cookie were delicious, and the seating was spread out well. The wifi also worked perfectly. My only slight complaint is that the music was a bit loud, but it didn't ruin my experience at all! We came here for a catchup with a friend AND IT SURPRISED ME HOW BOMB THIS PLACE IS. Super cute coffee shop and everything was so tasty. The coffee is awesome, and the all the food offered is really tasty, nourishing, and healthy. Which is nice because you don't have to think about worrying about that! They offer these cookies and they're HUGE and really goooood. They have a bunch of different ones and they're all really good. Not to mention the workers are literally the nicest people ever. My boyfriend ended up paying for me and his friend and they gave him a free coffee just because they thought he was a nice guy and a good friend. Super sweet of them to do, I really appreciated that. The coffee was great. The beet salad - not great. Their pumpkin pesto taste like anchovies. The entire time I was eating the salad, I had to run away from the pesto. The salad was almost $20 and inedible. I live down the street and this is a HUGE disappointment. I threw away over half of the salad. This is a great spot to sit down with a laptop and work for the day. They always have some good tunes playing, and there's lots of nice seating whether you're there by yourself or a few other people. I think their drinks are great, and they have tons of non-dairy milk options (oat, almond, soy, macadamia, etc). I usually get a latte or matcha latte. If you want average coffee & matcha lattes this is the place for you. If you want anything else and hate raspberry hibiscus flavored teas this is not for you because that's all they have apart from the matcha and coffee. My wife got a latte today and my cousin a matcha latte. I wanted neither and asked if they had lemonade to make matcha lemonade. "No". I asked what they have that's cold and neither coffee nor matcha. She looked at me confused and said "Iced tea?" I asked if the iced tea was just a black tea. "No, all we have is raspberry hibiscus." REALLY?! Advice to the owners: get lemonade for delicious matcha lemonade. Such an easy drink to integrate to your menu that will sell more matcha and who doesn't like refreshing lemonade even without matcha?! Also, get a neutral flavor of iced tea. Raspberry AND hibiscus individually are both love-or-hate flavors so having a neutral one would be great for many of us. read more

Just visited For Five on L Street, NW, WDC. Ordered drinks to go. The one unoccupied restroom I used was FILTHY - and it was obvious it hadn't been cleaned at all today. There's no way the soap and paper towel dispensers are completely empty at 1:40pm today. The sink and toilet were also dirty. I will definitely share this experience with the health department. The shop itself is clean and the service was prompt. The bakery and other food items looked good. I thought the music was a too loud so I went outside to fight with the mosquitoes. That being said this is a coffee place so I expect the coffee to be spot on. When I got my coffee I was a bit surprised that the cup was so small for the price I paid. That being said if the cappuccino was good it would have been worth the price. Instead, I received the worst cappuccino I have ever had. I love strong cappuccino drinks but this drink was so bitter it tasted burnt. I'm giving it two stars because the place was clean and packed with people. Hard to get a drink here. I work in the neighborhood, and For Five gave everyone in our office a filled-in punch card for a free drink and a travel mug to drum up business. Cool, I'll go along with that. Went in Wednesday afternoon, 1/27. There were three people in line in front of me and only one guy working. That's understandable, it's COVID, staff is going to be lean. Five minutes later, the first person in line had just finally gotten their drink and the barista was busy having an in-depth conversation with the second person in line same as the conversation they had while taking four minutes to make the first person's drink. I didn't want to wait another 5-10 minutes. Fine, the barista is chatty, that's normal. I'll just come back tomorrow. Rolled in today, Thursday 1/28, at 5:07 PM. Info on the door says open until 7. Nope, turns out, it's 5 (at least for now). My fault for not checking online--also their fault for not taping a piece of paper to the inside of the door that says "For now we are closing at 5 PM." The barista saw me, immediately explained the 5 PM thing, I kind of vaguely gestured at the door, and the barista apologized and said the door was wrong. Then I walked out. Whole interaction took maybe 10 seconds. I know this sounds like a "Karen" thing to say (and to be clear, I did not act like one--I don't think I even said a word unless gesturing towards the hours on the door with your hand counts as talking) but how hard would it be to make one more cup of coffee seven minutes after your incorrectly posted closing time? Again, I didn't ask for one, and to be fair maybe the barista thought I was going to order something complicated so they didn't offer because they had already cleaned the fancy machines. At the same time, there were seven or eight GW kids in there still talking, drinking, and hanging out with the barista who didn't look like they were leaving anytime soon. I know there's a difference between ordering a drink at 4:57 and staying 20 minutes to finish it vs. ordering at 5:07 and wanting to walk out with it (something the barista didn't know because they didn't ask). But not much of a difference, unless the register is set up to stop running sales one second after closing time or something. In any case, the effort and money they spent on the marketing that got me in the door in the first place went to waste. I did get a free travel mug that I'll keep using though, so that's nice. Two stars instead of one because the hours are at least posted correctly online if not on the door, the space looks really nice, and the menu looks good. I won't be back. read more

Great iced chai lattes! Only problem is that they fill the cup with so much ice that you hardly get any drink.
