Needed a dose of afternoon coffee. For Five Coffee Roasters smells amazing from the sidewalk so we got lured in. I was suuuper unimpressed by the cookies- kind of an understatement. I had the s'mores cookie & my friend had the strawberry cream. The cookies are huge but they are rock hard!!! Very dry, not tasty whatsoever. I do not recommend. The cortado was good - a little bitter and strong for my preference but my friend was a fan. It was almost $30 for 2 coffees & 2 (unsavory) cookies. Service was nice & the place is decorated beautifully, but I think you could find a better alternative for an afternoon pick-me-up. It seems like their savory foods have much better reviews than the bakery items.. read more

First off, the coffee is good. However, I ordered coffee beans online end of August 2024 and received the wrong coffee bag. I emailed them about the wrong order and they told me a replacement would be sent right away. It has been over 1.5 months and still no coffee replacement. I have emailed them again twice and no reply. There is no telephone number to call and speak with someone. I won't be ordering any more coffee. I really enjoyed their coffee, but this service is unacceptable. read more

I had a solid but unspectacular cup of coffee here. The flavor was on the bolder end, I'd say, and a bit one dimensional but still enjoyable and not unreasonably priced--I would get it again. The breakfast and lunch items sound very tasty. I passed on them due to concerns about allergies but if not for that I definitely would have gotten something. The place itself feels like a nice place to spend some time in. So if I lived in the area and it wasn't pandemic time I'd probably go there often. read more

3.5 stars. The iced vanilla latte was so bitter, I wasn't sure if they had forgotten to add the vanilla syrup or if it's usually served like that. They did add more vanilla syrup after I asked, but it still wasn't great and I definitely wouldn't go back for the coffee. The falafel bowl was pretty good, although the quinoa salad was a bit salty and the roasted carrot hummus didn't really taste like hummus. For the salmon toast, I appreciated how there was a good amount of salmon and the red onions were pickled instead of just raw, but there was an insane amount of the sriracha cream cheese. Also, it was strangely loose for cream cheese - more like a mayo which made the amount even more disturbing. The toast tasted pretty good, but was hard to finish (I ended up trying to scrape off a lot of the spread, but it was so packed into the crevices of the bread/salmon that it was impossible to get rid of). The portion sizes were great though. read more

I'm not surprised that this is a controversial place. I was here for lunch being new to the area and honesty I think what needs to be remembered is that if you show enthusiasm for someone's personal space they are receptive to it. The space is beautiful and the presentation is intentional. The woman who greeted me was obviously enthused to be working and it's understandable that cut throat space of fast casual private dining it is extremely hard to be competitive. Honestly given my experience working in cafes and things closer to a proper dining aesthetic as well as chains I felt that the energy here is good and that the people working are in an unfortunate position of having people come in constantly that don't understand what is trying to be accomplished in this kind of space. I'm new to this part of town but I grew up in the dmv and the transplant/ transient nature of Arlington means a lot of young pseudo professionals looking to fit in an image. And the image part is perhaps the most intimidating aspect of the dmv. It's always a challenge to convey just how much energy and effort goes into making a successful private experience in food and I've sampled many many concepts I got a match shot because I was already way up on my coffee intake and wanted to be in a mood to savor the coffee offerings without being on a time crunch. I got a cranberry muffin that tasted great was baked competently and was huge. The density of the pastry aspect of the muffin was excellent. And the cranberries were numerous. I got the steak and egg sandwich which is pictured below there's so much going on in this offering and the slaw with the soft egg and the brioche bun with the strips of steak was an awesome and decadent experience there as also an arugula salad that was dressed adequately and they plated with care this stuff matters to me I believe food should be and is intentional and this was validating to me I even pipped up to one of the staff and said "it's so validating to be in a space that is intentional it was about 20 minutes to receive the sandwich which makes sense I was there around 12:15 but was done by about 12:45 but either way I will be back and I think it's great that some people understand what's going on here and some don't. It's a good fit for me though and I'm a pretty intense critic. I'm glad that the management cares enough to be discerning and I think if you're paying for food in a place like this you're paying just as much for the experience of having someone craft you something as the raw materials. It's not about raw component cost or profiteering it's about someone took the time to learn a skill and they deserve to be compensated commensurate with their ability to create a culinary experience. Besides if you're in this part of town when was the last time you found a meal under 20 dollars with this kind of presentation or flavor? Gone are the days of the 5 dollar foot long and honestly I think many people anchor prices like it's 2006 when it's 2022, have wages kept up with inflation? No. But you can go do it yourself if you think you can churn something like this out in the time it takes to have an hour lunch break and make it cost effective be my guest. read more

Food - My wife and I shared an eggs benedict. Good but not great. Service - Counter service was good. Ambiance - This is a modern coffee shop and the ambiance was okay. COMPLAINT - We walked up to the counter. On the wall right over the order spot was a large menu with prices, all in large, easy to read print. We ordered from that menu. As is normal, I paid the bill right there with a credit card. At the urging for a tip I added my usual 10-15 percent for a self serve order. The final amount was significantly more than I expected so I asked for a copy of the receipt. The receipt caused me to asked two questions of the staff. First, why was I charged more then the price shown on the wall menu? Answer- oh those are old prices. He picked up a letter-size menu from the cluttered counter and said "these are the current prices." "Why don't you update the big wall menu?" A shrug was the response. Second, indication that there is a service charge automatically added is on the receipt - AFTER the tip has been collected. I really felt ripped off. read more

AMAZING coffee and great location in Dupont/foggy bottom!! Their cookies are INCREDIBLE!!! You must try their cookies!!!! One of their barista's, Nicole, always gives great service and she is so sweet!! All of their barists have a great customer service attitude! Their lavender latte is absolutely delicious. The place is always spotless too- cleanest coffee shop I've been in. Parking is a nightmare so don't try to drive here unless you're prepared to circle for a WHILE. read more

Holy coffee and cow! Did I just pay nearly $20 for a iced decaf latte (2 shots) and a piece of carrot bread? And the latte wasn't up to their usual strength, and the bread was more like cake, and very sweet. Not sure if I'll be back, but my eyes are still rolling in my head. read more

Tons of options for drinks and bakery. I got the matcha latte with oat milk which was very solid. Beware, they put no sugar in it but they have options to sweeten it up a bit to your liking. I also grabbed their almond croissant which was very fluffy and flavorful. Great place to chill and catch up on some work if needed! read more

Do Not be fooled by this place its chocolate chip cookie looks great but tastes like flour along with scorch/burnt chocolate chips. $5.83 is too much money to spend on a not so good chocolate chip cookie. You would be better off going to Subway to purchase 3 chocolate chip cookies that tastes much better for less than $5.83. FYI I love chocolate chip cookies and this is the worst cookie I've ever had in my life. read more

Omg this place is so delicious! Their vanilla latte is so perfect. It's not super sweet, nor super thick, and it served hot just like I like it! I also ordered a manhasset that is HUGE! It's a breakfast sandwich on steroids basically. Definitely worth the price. I suggest everyone tries out this coffee shop. Love the coffee and pastries, and food is unique and tasty, and has chill but fun ambiance. I'd normally give this place 4*. HOWEVER the lack of hand sanitizer and non-existent mask enforcement not only among patrons (mostly GW kids swatting on spaces with empty drinks on their computers) and kitchen staff made eating my salad and drink my coffee barely enjoyable. I'm not a germaphobe by a long stretch, but the lack of respect for very few, if any, COVID precautions was alarming. It's just a matter of respect for your fellow humans, and not having that is a problem for me. Might come get something from here again, but won't enjoy it inside, or might just choose one of the many other, quality cafés nearby. read more

I was here having coffee from Greek delicacies with my coworkers. The service is phenomenal. The manager Nicoleta very friendly. She greeted us with service and a smile, the Greek dessert and cheese pies were homemade. I felt like I was back in Greece. The coffee was perfect.The location is conveniently located near Nats park on the corner. Look forward to returning to the spot. Very nice outside patio seating on m street. read more

Went in today with some friends for coffee and lunch. All I can say is FALSE ADVERTISING!! My reviews and proof pictures are attached. -I ordered the Avocado Crush toast ($18 for one piece of toast! Not cheap!), which was supposed to come on a piece of sourdough bread, as listed on the menu. What came out was a piece of cheap bread that probably sells at the dollar store for the whole loaf. Aside from the fact that this wasn't even the advertised sourdough bread, the piece was only about half the size of what we should have gotten, meaning I only got about half the amount of toppings I would have gotten, had it been the correct bread. -A friend ordered the Starry Night Acai bowl. Her only request was replacing the coconut with granola, which was applied. However, this bowl also listed some fruit toppings like starfruit and golden, which weren't added! The employees only said after complaining that they didn't those fruits, which should have been communicated prior! After bringing up these two issues, the employees refused a refund, even though the food was not as described. I recognize that there is a "no refunds" sign on the counter. However, this shouldn't apply in the case of FALSE ADVERTISING!! In general, removing or substituting items should be communicated to the customer before selling something, and if not, a refund should be honored! "No refund" = We've had this problem before and want to keep scamming our customers!! Not to mention this food is quite pricey!! At nearly $20 for one toast and $20 for one acai bowl, I expect all the listed ingredients to be there, or at least communicated prior!! Food aside, ordered the caramel latte, which was subpar. Also, please hire more staff for weekends. Having two employees handle long lines is not enough. We waited 20+ minutes for our food. read more

I'm leaving this here because the Yelp profile for the new K St location isn't up yet. However, this is an issue plaguing all For Fives. They lie to you about pricing! We got a small iced chai which according to the board should cost $5.75. However, we were charged nearly $3 more. Why? Because it was iced. Yes, that is correct. Iced drinks cost $2-3 more. The staff said the board is only for hot drinks but failed to mention this. It also doesn't say so anywhere on the menu. This place is a scam. Don't come here. read more

I'm torn about this place. Coffee is good and the workers are so nice. Buuuut... management really doesn't seem to give a crap about the pandemic. When it's busy, this place is a superspreader event. It's packed with white college kids with no masks, chatting with friends and doing homework. They have so much seating inside, including by the counter near the poor baristas who have to put themselves at risk for no reason. Until they start giving a crap, I can't recommend. read more

New 2001 PA Ave NW Location: I needed something quick, so I popped in and ordered the lentil soup. It took 15 minutes to be brought from the kitchen to the counter. I was the only customer during those 15 minutes and I had to ask them to check on the order. Otherwise I could still be there! Soup was good, but tasted primarily of salt. I'm an out of towner and needed a quick cup of coffee. I loved the interior set up and how they allow dine in. Their spacious interior allows a lot of room to sit even with covid restrictions. I tried their drip coffee (medium roast with no cream/sugar) and espresso. The drip was perfect, however the espresso was a bit under extracted and was a bit sour, but regardless I still enjoyed my overall experience! I would love to try their pour overs once covid is over. read more

i normally have fine experiences here, but i wanted to get something special for a friend's birthday so i bought some of the "fresh baked" cookies. sadly, they were like giant hockey pucks...dry, flavorless, and very expensive hockey pucks. we picked at a few before finally chucking them in the garbage. it was pretty embarrassing tbh. read more

Great cookie and nice staff, and as a disclaimer, this next part of the review is regarding safety precautions. I was shocked at how many groups of people were not wearing masks indoors. Despite seats being 6 feet away from each other, there was little ventilation and I honestly felt bad for the employee who was surrounded by maskless people. I don't think it was at full capacity but definitely felt more than 50% full as required by Stage 2 of DC reopening. Also, coffee lids were out in the open next to a seating area. It could be helpful to have it behind the counter to reduce exposure! Overall, I'm excited to have a great coffee shop in DC, but I would probably return when there aren't as many people inside. read more

I've been here twice, once to pick up a treat for someone else and once for myself. Both times I got their stuffed cookies, plus a cinnamon roll one time. The cinnamon roll wasn't exciting, but those cookies... wow. The one I had was strawberry cream, a sugar cookie with a soft, strawberry cream center. That cookie was perfect. The outside had a bite to it, a little crunchy, but the cookie inside was soft. And the strawberry center was, too, almost the consistency of cookie dough. It was still a little warm when I bought it and that made it so much better. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other stuffed cookie flavors! read more
