I also didn't like that lettuce and tomato are extra and not included for a burger that's just very basic in terms of flavor. Food selections: If you fancy a smash burger, you've come to the right place. I've tried 4 different locations in the Valley, and I can honestly say this is my favorite location for smash burgers. You can add condiments, or remove them. You can add more patties if you're aiming to increase protein intake. If you're in the mood for chicken sandwiches they have you covered as well. Their chicken sandwich is not thee best, but definitely worth a try. They have fries for your sides, but if you're looking for a healthier option, they have Brussel sprouts, which I tried and YES! Just like many of you, we were probably intrigued with For the Win thanks to social media heads claiming it to be one of the best smash burger joints around. Unfortunately, this is not a statement my family and I agree with and I'll tell you why. First off, we have tried a handful of these smashburger joints (again, thanks to IG fave lists) and everyone of them has an amazing smell of burgers being cooked on the burner. Well...For the Win smelled like wet rag. We were able to snag one out of the two tables that are outside for consumers. It was in direct sunlight, but that's not FTW's fault. As soon as our order was done, it was nicely delivered to us. The burger: Not the best but it wasn't awful. The kids didn't like the sauce, but I didn't mind it. The brussel sprouts: Not bad. Probably the fave out of what we ordered. Lightly salted and still had a good crunch. The fries: The least favorite. Remember, the came out fresh, but they were soggy as heck! I opted for a double cheeseburger with tomato and fries. We brought our own water bottles, which was a good thing as the drink options were limited and I didn't see any free water options. The burger was served smash style with perfectly crispy edges and I could tell the burger was seasoned well. The cheese was melty and the sauce wasn't messy. Burger tasted great and is one of the better smash burgers I've had in recent past. Fries were basic, seasoned with salt, but were hot, fresh and tasted great. My only criticism of the burger was the bun was too small for the burger and couldn't stand up to the weight of the patties. Overall, solid spot if you know what you're getting yourself into. Fell in love with this burger at a pop up food event they were doing, and had to track down the brick in mortar while I was in Glendale this past weekend. It's really a hole in the wall in a small shopping plaza, but they have a couple outdoor tables where my girlfriend and I inhaled a double cheeseburger with bacon 10 minutes after they opened at noon. Burgers came out super quick -- probably because we were their first customers of the day -- and were just as good as I remembered. As were the side of fries. For anyone that remembers Chili My Soul in Encino (RIP the owner died and the joint closed), when you see a review mentioning this type of sauce, memories of the dipping sauce they served with their veggies should come to mind. I was hoping this would be what fry sauce was and it did not disappoint. It's like a part of Chili My Soul lives on. This stuff is crack and is perfection on the fries and burger. I ended up purchasing five little containers as I did not skimp on dipping. If you're wondering, the sauce is made with a Thousand Island base. Also, someone commented these fries are McDonald dupes and they are. So the fries are great alone but they're with the fry sauce. This sauce needs to be bottled and sold. Now the burger...I went with the double cheeseburger. I am not an onion fan except in certain circumstances and burgers is not one of those exceptions. However, I wanted to get the full flavor experience so I just had them make it with light onions. You can add lettuce and tomato but it's a smash burger, you don't need those items. Just look at the picture -- the patties extend beyond the potato buns and you can see all the gooey cheese/sauce. I have to put this burger above Goldburger's and ya'll know I'm a fan of that place. I ate very last crumb you see on that plate and if by now you haven't figured out this place gets a yummy in my tummy rating, then do you even have reading comprehension skills? The girl who took my order was also very friendly and brought my order outside because I was hunting down one of the two tables. Now the bad news. Parking sucks. Their lot is tiny and if you have a nice car, I do not recommend you park in there unless you're ok with getting your car banged by others as the spaces are tiny. We finally got someone's attention from behind the kitchen and we were told to go "Across the Street" to the gas station to use the washroom there. OK fine. Anyway, decided to check out FTW location in Glendale, which is MUCH less of a hassle to get to then the Hollywood location. It's located in a very small strip mall, so parking is sparse. But there's street parking as well if you want to walk it. It's a really small location, with a small section for bar seating Inside and a few outdoor tables. Most people I saw were picking up to go. This is a no nonsense burger spot that serves some of the best burgers I've had so far in LA. They have definitely got the smash burger down to a science here. The patties are everything a good smash burger should be: flavorful, juicy, and crispy at the ends. The secret sauce has a bit of tartness to it that just adds to the already wonderful flavor profile. I got the loaded fries too. Reminded me a bit like the animal style fries at the other burger place, but much better. They put cheese, grilled onions and a bit of that secret burger sauce on there. For the Win has four locations and I live close to this Glendale location. It's very small inside with about 4 stools to sit in the bar countertop on the side. I ordered for takeout and the bun and fries held well. I got a double hamburger with added lettuce and tomatoes and it's was delicious. Definitely made it to my top three smash burgers alongside GoldBurger and The Win-Dow. The meat was tender and the patties were pretty thick compared to the others. The fries were very similar to McDonald's fries so good I just wish they were softer like they are at GoldBurger. They also offer pickles YUMMY!!! The sauce they use is thousand island with what seemed like a hint of cayenne pepper. It's really tasty and combines well with the saltiness of the patties. The staff was also very nice and looked happy to be there and gave me good suggestions. They also offer ice cream and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. I can't comment though because they were out of the flourless chocolate cake when I arrived, meaning it's fresh so I can't wait to try it next time!!!
