They do some things really well here. I enjoyed the food, especially the sweet potato tots and the piggy basket appetizer. The sweet potato tots rolled in cinnamon sugar was awesome! I'd highly recommend that as your side. It's the only way to go. The piggy basket was fries with pulled pork, cheese, and other toppings. Everything on there was top-notch even by itself so putting it all together made a very tasty dish. I got the back porch burger. It had the most perfect fried green tomato on there, the pepper bacon was delicious, the pimento cheese was amazing too. My only complaint was the burger itself. I ordered it medium and it came out all the way to well done. Normally that would ruin the burger but all the other components were so good, I still really enjoyed it. Everyone else loved their food with no complaints. They have a good beer selection here and the server was very nice although she did disappear on us once. I think overall it's just a great concept. When I think farm to table I think $30 dishes and this place proves you can get great local and farm-fresh food for great prices! I hope to find more restaurants like this in the future. read more

Wow! What a spot! Our group went into the brewery next door and bartender recommended Forager for food. Glad we took the recommendation. We ordered Brussel sprouts, chicken chips, shrimp po boy tacos, sweet potato tots, and the shrimp and grits. Everything was amazing. We ordered for pick up and ate at the brewery by the creek. Everything was good. The tacos, tots, shrimp and grits were great. We went back and ordered the pork chop with grits and that was tasty; I'd go back for this. Worth a visit if you're in the area. We were here in February, so it was off-season and no crowds, but I heard the place can get packed with the train stop and when the weather is nicer. read more

What a surprise! We expected a burger joint and found a creative gourmet kitchen. The atmosphere is casual, pub-type western but the food is top notch yummy. Stopped in Dillsboro at a cute place along the old railroad tracks. I ordered the "Back Porch" burger. Oh my goodness, was it absolutely delicious!! The burger was cooked to perfection, a fried green tomato, candied bacon and a nice heap of pimento cheese. I was supposed to share with my husband, but I only gave him 2 bites. They use sweet tea chicken in the tacos and it was so tender and moist. We also got an order of the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer and I could've eaten them all. So good!! A group of us met tonight for dinner at Foragers Canteen. Several of us have eaten there before and it was an easy choice! One had the Kitchen Sink Burger (huge!), three of us had Depot Burgers, and the others tried other dishes. The food was absolutely delicious - the Depot Burger is, in my opinion, the best burger in western NC! Not only is the food great at Foragers, the atmosphere and service sets the standard! We somewhat stumbled into Foragers Canteen when the place we planned to go to lunch at turned up to be closed but that turned out to be great news for us. We were able to get a table and our waitress came and got us drinks. The menu had a lot to offer so I wasn't sure what to go with but once I fully read over the Foragers Shrimp & Grits I new that's what I had to go with. I comes with Blackened Shrimp, Chicken Apple Sausage, a Low Country Cream Sauce over Smoked Gouda Grits, Amazing! Our food came out within about 10-15 minutes and wow the Shrimp and Grits looked amazing. Lots of large blackened shrimp and all covered in a cream sauce. My first bite was great. The cream sauce rich and the shrimp perfectly cooked with just a bit and spice from the blackening, and sweetness from the chicken apple sausage to pull it all together. Easily the best Shrimp & Grits in Dillsboro/Sylva and probably in my top 5 of all time. Trust me that's saying a lot because Shrimp & Grits is my go to and I almost get it whenever I seen it on the menu. We will for sure be coming back. read more

Can't believe I have been passing this up all these years. I got the catch of the day. It happened to be blue berry trout. Perfectly pan sautéed with panko and parmesan cheese and drizzled with blueberry compote. You choose 2 sides and let met tell you that was a hard choice. I got brussel sprouts, and I wanted to lick the bowl. It was a delightful meal. Hubby got a hamburger cooked perfectly. We think the cut used was more lean than the ground chuck we use at home. He said it was dressed just right, but he missed some flavor. Cute bar, a bit rustic, just right for travelers, locals and college kids. One of the best eateries in the area. The staff is always amazing! Hands down my absolute favorite place for a burger. I honestly can't think of a single item on the menu that I have had and not thoroughly enjoyed. Every server there is extremely courteous and thoughtful. My husband can come up with some odd requests sometimes. Never one time have not done their best to accommodate us. They always make every visit feel like lunch with friends or dinner with family.
