The food was TOP notch. Every thing we ordered was delicious. The downside? The service. From the moment we walked in (the manager/host) did not make eye contact or greet us. Our server was very obviously flustered and seemed to lack knowledge in the basics of the menu. We heard an out of town table ask "what is kanpachi" and what is a "kukui nut" her reply was "it's a fish" and "it's a nut". My wine was empty and I was never offered another glass. Food runners and back of house staff came to run our food out and auctioned it off to the wrong table. We had to ask for silverware for our main course. Check was dropped with no offers for dessert (or wine). I've worked in the service industry for 10 plus years and there's some basic standards that need to be met here. Disappointing. We had high hopes for this new restaurant in Waimea, but it seems to be overwhelmed by the recent surge of locals and tourists coming out after pandemic restrictions being relaxed. There's also some basic common sense rules that have been overlooked. The portions are small and expensive: a cup of soup/small salad/bun/ one scoop of ice cream = $25. My wife had the "Farmer's" Plate - mostly pickled vegetables severed on a block of wood -$25. I noticed splatters of paint on the side of the wood (see photo) it was served on and asked the waitress about it and she said, "It must have come from the remodel." FORC used to be an outdated diner that looked like it was from 1960s, and now has a modern look. I asked to see the manager about the wood with the paint on it, but he was too busy to come out from the kitchen and give his explanation. I'm not sure wood left over from a remodel is food-grade safe (or properly sealed), and the fact that no one has spotted the paint in the three weeks that they've been open is also curious. My cup of onion soup had a small whole cooked onion taking up most of the real estate in the tiny cup. I asked about it and was told, "the chef wants to keep the integrity of the onion so that's why it's whole." Say what?! The salad was a mixture of kale and lettuce - nothing impressive. The "loaf" of bread was bun-sized served in a tin with melted butter on top. The dessert was one scoop of ice cream dwarfed in a large bowl. Total time at restaurant: one hour. I got the impression FORC is trying to compete with nearby Merriman's - an upscale restaurant with a great reputation. They've got a long way to go. read more

The entrees don't include any starch or side vegetables...these are ordered separately. The chopped salad was good, but the dressing felt like it was missing something. We r from S.F. We understand how a restaurant can be busy but there r 9 of us and 2 r children 2 and 4 yrs of age with a 5 month old we are all caring for. We started with hardly anyone here n now a full house of guests who have been served before us. Our server is not very friendly and has very little patience. It's really a-shame they don't see we have children that need attention or at least something to tie them over. The food may be good be service is really horrible. Soooo many more places to enjoy. I came to FORC and was very excited to try a new (for me) restaurant focusing on local ingredients. I love all the other restaurants in the area that do so. I was a bit disappointed that they were out of many things we wanted to order (a certain champagne, filet mignon, and clams) - that's a lot to be out of and that's just from the items our table wanted to order. I ordered the clams and they substituted the dish with prawns because they were out of the clams. The prawns were overcooked and dry. The steaks we ordered were fine, but nothing I'd take note of. The lau lau special was dry and very underwhelming. I love independent restaurants with this type of pedigree and culture. I appreciate that you can be out of certain items because you want to use only locally sourced products, but then you need to update your menu accordingly. Opted for the booth, a tight squeeze for 5. The food was less than perfect, perhaps because of the party??? The mac & cheese was gnocchi and cheese, very disappointing, doughy and bland. The steaks were tasty, but tough. The Portuguese chicken should have come with a plate so it could be spooned from the cast-iron pot for easier eating. Just means we will need to come again. The waiter we had was amazing and of course the food was out of this world. The only thing I would recommend is to have them sit your table on the inside portion (near the bar) the sounds in the other room really bounce off the walls and make it difficult to hear the people you are eating with. I am normally not one to write critiques of restaurants, but in the case of my recent experience with Forc,, I had to speak up about it. We heard so many positive comments about the restaurant from relatives that we had to go there and experience it for ourselves. We arrived at the restaurant on time for our 7pm reservation. The restaurant wasn't totally full and we were seated fairly quickly. Things seem to go downhill from there. Our server seemed not to be very attentive to our party of 9. She was taking orders from other tables though we arrived well before any of the tables she was servicing. I overheard our server announce the daily specials to other tables, but not to our table. Other tables that came in after us were served before us. Our server gave us a less than sincere apology for the delay. We expressed our disappointment with management about the situation and were given an unsatisfactory answer and seemed to defend our servers actions. Though management offered to remove items from our bill as compensation, to our surprise and disappointment, it wasn't done. This was the worst service I ever experienced at any restaurant in my life. The restaurant obviously cared more for making a buck than servicing their patrons. What an upsetting evening! read more

My recommendation to the manager: Keep the bartender, lose the chef. The cocktails and the wine were excellent, but it went downhill from there. The green salad was sad. The dressing was indifferent, the beets overcooked, and the hunks of lettuce so large that serious knife work was required. The chicken was tasteless and barely saved by the brown gravy served on the side. It would have been passable at a Luby's Cafeteria. The ribeye steak was tough to the point of inedibility and had to be sent back. The second attempt was less tough - though hardly tender - but had good flavor. I'd gone in expecting to order seafood, but the only two items on that side of the menu were clams and a whole fish that fed two people. The service was fine until the waitress got busy and forgot we existed. I finally had to walk over to the hostess to get the check. Even after they comped us half the price of the entrees, the bill came to almost $150.00. Not a bad price for a good meal, but ridiculous for what we were served. If you still want to try F.O.R.C., go soon. They won't be in business much longer if they don't up their game considerably. read more

Fairly new gem in Waimea. The food was absolutely fantastic. We shared the cheese platter and gem salad to start. Entrees ordered were, big island lamb, ribeye, pork chop, and miso fish. We split sides of the garlic rice, mushrooms and bacon baked potatoes. Service was on point from start to finish. There was also live music that added to overall ambience. Nice decor. Food was yummy and nicely presented. The oxtail was very tender. The broccolini was presented well with some lemon hummus on the bottom and tomato salsa on the top. The clams were cooked just right not chewy at all and broth was flavorful.
