Love the concept! Always want to support those that are supporting local growers and producers. At first visit there was a mix. We were wanting to try the whole fish, but by 6:45 they were already sold out. I ended up getting this Portuguese style stewed chicken leg that was very tasty, but also quite oily. The two people with me ordered steak which were both overcooked. . One was charred so badly on one end which made it very tough, disappointing for a $48 steak. The other thing for me is that try as I might, I do not like the taste of goat cheese. Most of their dishes that had cheese, used goat cheese. I'm sure because it is what you can get locally on island. I hope they consider using other cheeses for those who would like to try some of the salads and other dishes, but do not want goat cheese Even though our dinner could have been better, we will try again on our next trip. read more

Loud, cold, slow. Eaten there twice. Both times we could not have a conversation it was so loud. Couldn't even hear our server. Both times the soup was just lukewarm. Last time all entrees were cold as well. Took a long time to get food. Absolutely freezing on the inside, I couldn't get warm. Manager stopped by our table and ask if we were doing ok and then quickly left before I could answer. No personal contact. Felt more like he was just checking items off his to do list. read more

Nice restaurant. The service can be more attentive, and the food can be cooked slightly better. But the flavors are wonderful. My streak was overcooked and my wife's fish was cooked too dry. Dined at FORC last evening and were extremely pleased. We live close by and had been planning to go, and a number of friends gave us good reviews. Second time there, not as good as first. Took another couple with us as we thought the experience would be the same, we were wrong. The best thing about the place this visit was the server. She was great and it's sad that I can't remember her name. We ordered the bread and bone marrow butter to begin. All 4 were disappointed that the bread was obviously pre-made and baked. The bread wasn't warm enough to melt the butter. It was expensive and not worth the cost. We had 2 orders of the half rack of lamb chops and they were cooked to perfection. We also had 2 orders of the rib eye, both ordered medium rare. One was cooked well done and the other rare. The well done was sent back and in less than 5 minutes another steak was received, it was rare, not medium rare. A little was eaten from both and taken home. Both were on the tough side and chewey. Two orders of mushroom were ordered and both tasted good. A little on the cool side but edible. The brocollini was nothing more than normal broccoli with long stems and grilled. Definitely not even close to being brocollini and not seasoned. The charcoal potatoes were good but they too were not hot or very warm. Don't know if there was supposed to be butter served with them but there wasn't. The 4 of us shared 2 deserts and both were good, not great but good. We all were disappointed with the meals, especially for the prices we paid along with the fact that my wife and I had built this place as an alternative to Merrymans. We'll probably go back again but if our next visit is like this one, it will be our last. read more

Tonight we had our first dinner at Forc and it won't be our last!! We were a party of 4 and ordered 2 orders of roasted oysters which were phenomenal and a beet salad (my only suggestion with the beet salad is add a bigger dollop of goat cheese please!). Our main course was a full rack of lamb with purple potatoes, cauliflower/broccoli dish and dinner rolls. The lamb was cooked perfectly and so tender, we paired this dish with a southern Rhone wine (Chateau du Pape) and ended with a fabulous Filipino Flan and the wait staff was so friendly, helpful and hardworking - Absolutely the best restaurant on the Big Island and I'm not a tourist, I live in Kona! read more

Went on vacation to West Hawaii. Pleasant surprise to find this gem of dining, but in Kamuela. Farm, Ocean, Ranch seasonal harvest and flavors. This combination would, or could, not be done in Honolulu. Excellent fare, impressive exotic drinks, conscientious wait staff and live music? Where else? Charcuterie, steaks, poke, Waipio poi, Waimea vegetables, local fruit ice cream? Highly recommended if you are in West Hawaii to Hamakua coast. I certainly will make it a point to return to this outstanding restaurant, when I am in the area...you need to try it too! read more

This was a bizarre dinner experience. Had reservations but waited 20 minutes until anyone acknowledged us. When we sat down they set out these four big bowls that seemingly had no purpose. We got our food before our drinks and had no silverware. They finally brought us forks but we had to ask for knives. Oddly, other people had full sets of silverware. Maybe they were running low? The service was terrible and disorganized. Looked like there was one waitress for the entire place. Felt bad for her - she was trying hard but I have no idea how she could get everything right being the only wait staff. The food was decent but overpriced. The house salad was delicious, as was the ube ice cream. I ordered the house rolls and it was four dollars more for chorizo butter, so I ordered it. However, just tasted like regular butter. Either they didn't bring the right butter or it's a rip off. Mixed drinks were good, however. Would not go back. read more

Last night was my first time visiting this place. I had the soup meal which included the best tasting sweet bread I've ever had and a dessert. I also got to pick off my brother-in-law's fish (I love the fish head) and my sister's rib. But I'm giving this restaurant three stars because they were not following COVID protocol. Restaurants in Hawaii County can have only 50% occupancy and six feet between tables. The tables were six feet apart. But just from looking around it looked like the restaurant was 75-100% full. When we arrived our section had only one other couple sitting next to the door. Our section of the restaurant could seat -- I'm guessing -- 24 bodies. Our section (they also have the bar and restaurant section and an outdoor area) was nearly empty so we felt OK with that. We also kept our masks on until we got our water. But when our orders arrived that's when the restaurant started filling up with visitors. They arrived with masks on. But once they were seated they took their masks off. I enjoyed the food but not the ambience. It would be nice if they had take out services. That way locals like me can enjoy the food at home without compromising our safety. Mahalo. read more

We read about FORC in a Savvy 360 Hawaii magazine. Sounded so interesting - Forest Ocean Rancher Cook - so we decided to visit for dinner. SO glad we did. This is not the place you come for an ocean view, but you will enjoy the short 20 minute beautiful drive from the Kohala Coast area to Waimea. FORC IS the place you come for some local flavors and incredible food. As "tourists" (though we hope to some day become "locals"), we immediately loved the vibe - decor and lighting is bright and very intimate/inviting. White table cloths and fresh flowers on the tables. Seats at the bar were filled with (I think) non-tourists, adding to the wonderful ambience. There was a mix of booths and tables in the dining room. A separate room was set up for a private event - looked like it could hold about 40-45 people. The menu was probably the most interesting/unique one we experienced during our two week stay on Hawaii, so it was hard to decide (a good thing, in our opinion). The wine list was well-curated with wines from a good variety of vineyards and producers from California, Oregon, Argentina, Italy, France, possibly more. The glasses and bottles were also well-priced (thank you!) relative to other restaurants we had been dining at on the island. David took great care of us, and we also appreciated discovering that his hometown was actually Waimea. We started with a spicy-rimmed margarita then completely devoured a generously-portioned lamb meal for two which included various sides including garlic fried rice, Hawaiian purple potatoes, and two delicious salads. We especially enjoyed the ultra fresh butter leaf lettuce salad with dressing that was insanely good. The presentation was also amazing with beautiful and very colorful plates and bowls. Everyone was very friendly and professional. We will definitely make sure to come back again to try some of the other items on the menu! Loved FORC! Highly recommend. read more
