I called on Friday and they were able to accommodate me for the following Monday. I already knew the problem because VW had already diagnosed the issue. When I made the appointment Rafael said that they may be able to fix the issue with out ordering the whole new part. After they looked at it they for sure had to order the new part. I had my car by the next day. I was a little upset at first because they charged me to diagnose the issue (after I already paid vw). But once this was brought to the owners attention he had mailed out a refund check. It's my bad, I should have asked in the beginning but Rafael sent a check and called twice to follow up. After an initial miscommunication regarding a vehicle that I brought in for a diagnostic I gave Foreign AutoHaus a hasty review on Yelp. Jason called me and wanted to understand my concerns and remedy the problem I was having with the vehicle. After speaking with him about his specialties I realized that this is probably not the shop for my Cadillac or Jeep, but did offer Jason the opportunity to do a pre-buy inspection on a BMW I was considering purchasing. I am really glad I did. Jason and his team found many things that I would've never thought to look for and potentially saved me from purchasing a vehicle that could've had some serious issues. They are professional and have a great specialty shop for Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Porsche, etc. They are definitely not the cheapest shop in town but are less expensive than the dealership and you get what you pay for with them. If I end up with a BMW, Audi, or other import, I'll definitely be seeking their expertise. read more

Reading some of the reviews posted on this business bears out what I experienced: the owner needs to be more tactful if he is going to survive. A couple of years ago, upon being new to El Dorado Hills, I needed a place to have some work done on my car. So, I pulled in to the shop, and thought I'd kill 2 birds with one stone. I dashed across the street to get mail at the post office, then came back to get information. He proceeded to curse at me for using his parking lot. Little did he realize I was going to get some info from him on his business. He didn't have to use the "f-bomb." I should have let it go at that, but I came back to his business the next day. This time, I spoke to the person at the counter. Upon getting the labor-rates, I said "thank-you," and left. Verbal abuse of a person is just not acceptable. Maybe he had a bad day. Still, no excuse. My business goes elsewhere. I am following up with AAA on their "approved repair" logo, out front. read more

I have brought my car for repairs here many times and the service has always been exceptional. This most recent time there was a snafu with the appointment and the car wasn't ready at the time promised. They were most apologetic and ended up comping the repair. I took my 2000 Boxster in for an oil change and the Check engine light was on. While the car did have a whine, I didn't know what it was. I called the dealer and he told me it was the tires, "that's all it could be". It turned out to be a wheel bearing. Foreign Autohaus got everything squared away at an affordable price. The check engine light was an oil separator vs the O2 sensor I suspected. When they were done the car was so much quieter, I could hear a clicking noise. Jason told me to bring it right back, and when I did they focused on it. It would not duplicate on the rack. It didn't take long until they discovered the emergency brake cable was routed incorrectly. They fixed it, no charge, even though it was a new problem. I would recommend them for your automotive needs. My car is quite a bit quieter and has quite a bit more pep. read more

Took my car in for a engine light on, $1600 I get the car back lights off car runs terrible, take it back they state I have moisture getting in a cylinder and its going to be a minimum of $2800. Took the car to a different place. They found a cracked hose. $40 part and $40 service. Car has run great ever since. Get a 2nd opinion and take a open check book! read more

Beware....... I took my BMW here for service of some basic repairs. The door lock on the passenger side was not working, windshield wiper flow tank was clogged, glove box won't open, and there was a squeeking noise from my drive belt. When the car was returned to me the door on the passenger side would not open at all and my battery was dead and I had to get someone to jump my car to get home. This started a new problem in the instrument panel in which I did not have in the first place. After replacing the battery and the alternator and numerous trips back to the shop and spending over $2000 I was very stressed and worried over whether the car was safe to drive or not since I make regular trips to the Bay Area. Over a period of 10 months the problem was finally taken care of after the owner himself figured out what the problem was. It had been misdiagnosed over and over again and It was suggested that maybe I need a new car. The car is a 2004. Bottom line is that the owner has no clue what is going on in his shop. Would never recommend them or bring a car to them again. read more

DISHONEST COMPANY I took my Lexus to Foreign Autohaus to have my brakes checked. While sitting in the lobby waiting for my car I could see that they put my car lift to inspect the brakes. I watched the mechanic inspect the car by using a flashlight to look at something near each tire, then he manually spun each tire. It took all of 10mins for him to make the assessment that my back brakes had only 2mm of wear left, my front brakes had 5mm of wear left, and that I needed new rotors both in the back and front. My first red flag was they did not pull the tires off the vehicle to inspect the brakes, and the second red flag was the large fee that they said the repairs would cost. The car is 6 years old and this is not our first time having to pay for brakes so I new the fee was inflated. Needless to say, I took the car else where for inspection where they pulled the tires off, and showed me that the back brakes had 5-6 mm of wear left and NOT 2 as they told me, and my rotors were fine and did not need replaced. On a side note, I was uncomfortable with their assessment and wanted a second opinion and when I went to leave Foreign Autohaus without getting the repairs done, they told me I only had 200miles left of brakes and to be careful. Lastly, when I questioned why I needed new rotors, and the service managers response was, "if my mechanic said you need new rotors than there is a reason for it." They are dishonest and use scare tactics. read more

I took my car to Foreign Auto Haus for several years. Rafael is very nice and all that. They do over charge and they charge some people more than others. I got fed up when I realized that when I went in for an issue they would string it out with unnecessary tasks. For example: my check engine light went on that the code said that there was something wrong with the catalytic converter. They suggested replacing the sensor at a cost of $700 plus so that we could find out if we needed to replace the catalytic converters which would cost an additional $2000 for each converter and of course they recommended replacing both of them. That is when I'd had enough. A year later and I went someplace else and replaced one of my catalytic converters for $1200. read more

I'm not sure where my last review went so I wanted to write another as we just had my sons VW Jetta worked on. We have had ALL of our cars taken care of by Foreign Autohause since we first used them about 2 years ago. They are excellent. Not sure why there could even be a bad review on here. We have a 2004 BMW 530i, a 2004 Toyota Sequoia as well. My son broke down the other night in his car. I had the car towed to Foreign Autohase and everything looked at. Rafeal personally came out and told us everything that was going on, what needed to be fixed ASAP and what could wait a few months as my son was paying for the repairs himself and needed to space it out. My son learned a valuable lesson on auto care that day. Rafeal also has been very helpful in the search for a car for our daughter. On a few occasions we took him a car we were considering and he looked over the vehicle and told us whether it was a good buy or had any issues we should be aware of. Rafeal is a straight shooter and I think I've come to realize some may not like that by reading their reviews. But he will not dance around the issues that need to be dealt with I have found. Personally, I would rather have a mechanic that cares enough about my safety and my families to tell me like it is rather than blow smoke to make me feel better. I highly recommend this shop. i take all my cars here great work very professional they have a really clean workshop you can eat off there marble floors. yes there workshop has white marble floors. the owner is not jumping around like a little bunny when his talking to you. but he knows his stuff and gets it done right the first time. prices are not high you get what you pay for. nothing is cheaper then expensive I've taken my car to different mechanics for the same problem other then the dealer foreign autohaus is the only person that fixed it right thank you guys! read more

Rip Off Artists!!! I brought my car to Foreign Autohaus to correct an oil leak and a reddish brown fluid leak. Foreign Autohaus inspected my car and itemized a number of repairs that would be needed to correct the oil leak and reddish brown fluid leak. Foreign Autohaus charged me $125.54 to repair the oil leak and $355.70 to repair the reddish brown fluid leak which they attributed to a Power Steering Line leak. Days after they returned the car to me I noticed the same oil and reddish brown fluid on my garage floor underneath the car. The same area where my car had been leaking before Foreign Autohaus worked on it. I called Foreign Autohaus to tell them about the leaks and they asked me to bring the car in. After keeping the car for an entire day, Foreign Autohaus told me I'd have to pay them another $870 to fix the oil leak and $529.64 to correct the reddish brown fluid leak that they now were calling a "transmission cooler line leak" (both jobs totaling $1,402.65). When I challenged this new cost, and reminded them I had already paid them for to fix these two problems they said "these leaks are hard to find and fix." I told them this was unacceptable and I again asked them to fix oil leak and a reddish brown fluid leak under their warranty.. They refused. At this point I decided to get a second opinion from another repair shop. The second shop inspected my car and found the oil leak was due to a faulty Oil Filter Stand Gasket ( a $5.76 part), and the reddish brown fluid leak that Foreign Autohaus had failed to fix was still emanating from the Power Steering Lines. Upon further inspection, the second shop found some troubling things. The Power Steering lines worked on by Foreign Autohaus were installed incorrectly, one line was missing a gasket and the other had the WRONG gasket, a green A/C gasket, in the place of what should have been a proper Power Steering line gasket. Once proper gaskets were installed in the power steering lines and Oil Filter Stand the leaks stopped. My car is now free from oil and power steering leaks. My total cost to do both jobs was $421.47. Foreign Autohaus was paid $481.24 and did not stop the leaks, and, they requested another $1,402.65 to do more unnecessary work. At best their actions were disingenuous, more likely, fraudulent. A few days after the second shop fixed my car, I brought it back to Foreign Autohaus to have them finish a window repair that I'd previously paid for. When I picked up my car I spoke to "Nico" about my concerns regarding the oil and power steering leaks and the money I had paid them. I asked for a refund of the $355.70 for the power steering leak they charged me for but did not fix. I did not ask for reimbursement of the money paid to fix the oil leak in an attempt to compromise in the hopes that they would agree. Nico told me he would talk to his supervisor and call me. After a few hours with no call from Nico, I called Foreign Autohaus. Nico passed me off to someone named "Cam", who identified himself as the manager. Cam told me that they would not make any refund to me as I had not brought the car back to them to give them another opportunity to fix it. Clearly, this is not correct; I had brought the car back, left it with them for the entire working day, giving Foreign Autohaus a chance to warranty their work. Which they did not do, instead, they wanted to charge me an additional $1,402.65 in repairs to do the job again. I have filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repairs to investigate Foreign Autohaus. Beware of this shop, my experience with them was awful and I'm posting this to protect others from the shabby and fraudulent treatment I received from Foreign Autohaus. read more

What an amazing experience! Last week I was driving from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe when my car started to act funny. We were able to find Foreign Autohaus and thankfully the owner Rafael was still around at 7 PM on a Friday night. As the car was not drivable and needed to be looked at on Monday, Rafael was so generous and provide myself and 3 of my friends with a car for the weekend! We were able to enjoy our trip to Tahoe and make it safely there. On Monday, his staff contacted me immediately and were able to look at my car first thing. I have used this shop for 5 years on my Range Rovers and my wifes Acura and have to say Rafeal is as good as you can find on this Planet when it comes to car knowledge. Prices are fair and sometimes better than that. He bought and replaced 3 sets of brake pads from BMW that squeaked and did not charge me a nickel. I don't write reviews much, in fact I never do, but after my experience with Foreign Autohaus, I felt inclined to Yelp. My wife and her family have been coming to FA for years and swear by the service. When I recently came in to do a brake job on wife's Mercedes I felt the great customer service that my family spoke about. The service guys are highly trained professionals that have mastered all European cars. When I asked them about what vehicle I should buy my family next they gave me recommendations based on my family needs and the most dependable cars not the cars that would cause mechanical issues and bring them in business. The owner, Rafael is awesome. An extremely genuine owner, I felt like I had been talking to one of my friends I've known for years. He makes you feel at home and does not try to capitalize off you. Let's be honest if you are taking your car to a European mechanics than you're probably driving an expensive luxury car that aren't cheap to fix, but I will say his prices are fair. He understands car troubles is stressful enough and tries to alleviate your problems. I know that I will continue my families tradition of taking my cars to Foreign Autohaus. An awesome experience. NEVER take your car here! I took my Land Rover in several months ago to fix a "check engine" issue. After performing $900.00 in unnecessary repairs (basically replacing fairly new parts that I TOLD them were new), guess what? The "check engine" light came on the next day! Next, they told me they'd pay for a rental car while they figured out what was really wrong. Needless to say, they never did figure out that coolant was leaking into a cylinder and suggested I take it to a place in Sacramento (that did correctly diagnose the problem). I just received a letter from the car rental agency informing me that the rental car THEY SAID THEY'D PAY FOR would be charged to my credit card because Autohaus refused to pay. I've spent months trying to get a promised refund, only to get a bunch of run around. Now, whenever I call, the owner is "conveniently" absent. I'll be going to the BBB next. read more

ignored the bad Yelp reviews and went to see Rafael and his guys when my 08 Sequoia was due for service. Very glad I ignored the crap on Yelp. I am very mechanically inclined and choose to work on my hobby vehicle and not my daily drivers. I soon discovered the entire team are like me...gearheads. They LOVE cars and in my opinion are extremely straight-shooting. Turns out my truck had a weeping water pump and after Nikko called me I went down there to inspect it before they did any work. 100% spot on diagnosis and turned around a 7hr fix by end of day. Autohaus replaced the head on my BMW 525i. They used non OEM parts, an AMC head and a Victor-Reinz gasket, both known to be inferior, just Google it. The gasket failed in two years. The shop in Auburn where I had the head replaced again (with OEM parts) said Autuhaus didn't even install both alignment studs in the block, which may have contributed to early failure. And the cost was no less at Autohaus with the non-OEM parts. I will never go back to Autohaus. read more
