We called Foreign Autohaus and discussed what the dealer had told us and Rafael had great insight into what was most likely the problem. We decided to go with Autohaus and took in the car. They quickly diagnosed the issue and resolved the leak and found that what the dealer wanted to do was not necessary as they didn't take the time to really see the issue at hand. Drove my 2006 Mercedes ML350 to Foreign Autohaus. The check engine light was on and it had been stalling occasionally when accelerating. It took them over a week to get to it after the appointment time. I get an email saying what's wrong with it. Labor and parts come up to 1400$. I ok the work moving forward. I was out of town and they called to tell me the transmission is done. After all the work they did to it, now all of a sudden it won't shift gears. I was out of town dealing with a family emergency, so I couldn't get right to it to get it out of there. Then they threatened me with storage fees if I didn't get it out of there same day. So I had to line up a tow truck with my 16 year old meeting the driver to get it home. I checked it when I got home and I cannot even shift it from park to any other gear. I of course paid them. So for 1400$, they threw a bunch of parts at it and I had to tow it home after driving it there. Said there was nothing they could do. Pretty furious with this experience. Would not recommend this shop in the least. Avoid at all costs. read more

To start, I can't remember the last time I wrote a review. Second fact is that Foreign Autohaus did not ask me to write a review. I came to them with a 2004 Jaguar XJR that had been to two other mechanic shops and I was turned away by an electrical shop to scared to try and figure out the communication issue. The communication issue had been there for a few years which would trigger a check engine light that didn't mean anything. Then I re-built the transmission and the transmission would work properly. The transmission shop blamed the communication issue which I thought was not true. So I bring it to Foreign Autohaus with very little faith. They figured out the issue and had to buy parts from England. I get the car back and everything is fixed. The write up they provide is the most detailed write up I have ever seen. If you have a car that they work on in the Sacramento area, don't waste your time going anywhere else. read more

Somehow, my original review, below, was taken down from Yelp - the day after Rafael called to discuss. Pretty bad business practice to remove bad reviews, I am being really honest here. Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware! Never have I dealt with a business where I felt stronger about that phrase than my dealing with Foreign Autohaus. When I first came across the newly relocated Foreign Autohaus, after they moved to the old fire house on Blue Ravine, I thought this is awesome. I have an older '09 Audi Q5 and the drive from Folsom to Niello Audi in Sacramento takes about 1-1/2 hours' round trip - so having what looked like a good service alternative in Folsom was a welcome sight. Boy was I WRONG! Took in my '09 Audi Q5 in July for a regular scheduled maintenance where they quoted a decent price so, I figured I'll give them a try. We had been noticing a coolant "burning" smell, but no noticeable leaks so I asked them to check that out as well. The report came back that they found a problem with the thermostat housing and this came along with a serious warning that the thermostat could go out at any time, leaving the wife broken down and stranded. I authorized the repair, taking a simple scheduled maintenance to a $1400+ repair. A week or so later I noticed that there was still a burning coolant smell when the car was pulled into our garage, but thinking it was just residual from the repaired leak, I decided to give it a bit more time. After about 2+ months, the smell was getting stronger, so back to the shop we go. This time I dropped it off with the report that I was smelling a burning coolant or maybe even oil. This is when the scare tactics really ramped up. This time - after a bit over 2 months from when they last looked at the vehicle we were told: The timing case cover was leaking oil and needed resealing! Vacuum oil pump was leaking and needed replacement! Both valve cover gaskets were leaking and needed replacement! The air filter needed replacement! The battery tested as bad and needed replacement! The lower radiator hose had a leak and needed replacement! The thermostat housing was leaking and they needed to replace that seal! - that was until I reminded them they just did that in July, they then came back and said the residual coolant they found was left over from the repair done in July. SCARE TATIC #1 - The vacuum pump replacement recommendation came with the warning that this could go out at any time, possibly causing serious damage to the motor! SCARE TATIC #2 - The battery replacement recommendation came with a warning that it was set to go out at any moment leaving the car stranded! SCARE TATIC #3 - The leaking radiator hose was so bad that it was recommended that I park the vehicle, because that hose was "spewing"! Total for all of the recommended repairs was over $3800. All the warnings were pretty ominous, and made what I thought was a 10 year old car in really decent condition, sound like it was ready to break down at a moment's notice. Last thing I need is for my Wife's car to break down while I am out of town. After getting off of the phone with these guys and thinking about their "Scare Tactics" approach, I decided that a second opinion was definitely needed. Plus thinking about all the recommended repairs compared against knowing that this car is a 10 year old European car, this just sounded really excessive. Remember, there are no noticeable oil spots nor coolant spots on my garage floor. I paid them their $140 for the "inspection" and picked up the car and was again told that I needed to park the car as that radiator hose is "really spewing". Back to Niello we go - their report - the lower radiator hose is leaking and needs replacement, total about $575, including a free multi-point inspection. Foreign Autohaus cost to replace the radiator hose - $581. Interesting how the dealer service department can do a multi-point inspection and find NONE of the so ominous needed repairs that Foreign Autohaus recommended. Plus now I am thinking the burnt coolant smell was due all along to a leak in the lower radiator hose, and the replaced thermostat was an un-needed repair and a complete waste of money. I find it really hard to believe that the radiator hose suddenly sprung a leak, immediately after they replaced the thermostat, since we continued to have the smell right after I got is back from the first repair. I will recommend that anyone and everyone AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, unless you want to get sold un-needed repairs that come with complete scare tactic recommendations that unless you do the repair your car is going to break down and leave you stranded at any moment. read more

This is my BMW 530i second time here. The first time I went here was just for an oil change and perhaps microfilter change. I went in there to get the front struts replaced (follow up on previous service advice). I interacted quite a bit with the shop and paid a good amount for service which I believe makes me well qualified to leave a review behind. First the good. Documentation about the car was certainly the highlight. They have a pretty good online system for letting the customer know the problems with the car. Diagnostic reports, pictures, technician summary are uploaded for the customers to see. I really loved this aspect. If they can upload pictures of all the old parts they replaced that will be even better. I won't yet give an assessment on the quality of work done (time will tell) but on the face of it seems like a good job done. The multi-point inspection check is quite detailed. They found a Valve cover gasket leak. A multi-point inspection at a BMW dealership couple of weeks ago did not report the same finding (may be they overlooked it or perhaps they decided that it was not urgent enough). Although I'm not fully convinced that this was an issue but based on the pictures and the fact that I'm not a trained mechanic I'll give Foreign Autohaus the benefit of doubt that this needed attention and I chose to address it. Jhonny at the front desk is a really nice guy. He can come across as rude in the way he talks and sometimes may not let you finish but he is nice guy. Since the work was already burning a big hole in my pocket he was kind enough to have the technicians look at a light warning that I was getting on my car. The diagnosis was not conclusive / complete. However whatever diagnosis was done on the car, pictures / technician summary was uploaded. Additional diagnosis will require $300 labor. For fixing the valve cover gasket leak they charged ~$670 labor. Based on this youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_nKbg2Yru0, this seems like a 90min to max 2hr job for a trained mechanic. For the front struts as well they charged ~$670 labor. Based on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEhSGeD15HI, it is a 2hr job max. So that effectively means they charge $335/hr labor @ 2hrs or $235/hr at 3 hours. I personally feel the labor might be on the steeper side. Now coming to the parts, for the struts (part number: 22-212696) they charged me ~$290 a piece. When I looked up the part online it costs ~136.00USD a piece (Ref: https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/530i/?year=2007&m=20&e=2053&t=5&b=5&d=700&v=&keywords=22-212696). I don't know if they mark up all of their parts @ more than 100%. Given their operational costs and profit margin expectations perhaps the labor rate and mark up on the parts is needed. I don't know. Whether the prices are justified I'll leave it to the judgement of the readers of this review. I don't have an opinion here since I don't have enough data. All in all, I'm rounding my 3.5 stars to 4. Because they certainly did better than a 3. I'll be going back there for the service needs of my car because they seem to be good at what they do (until they manage to disappoint me), plus I'm not a trained mechanic, I need help and they get the job done. They are probably the best we have in and around Folsom (2/3 mile radius). They did not take a personal check from me because I haven't been a customer with them long enough for them to trust me. I regret giving them so many chances to make things right, only to get shafted in the end. Rafael needs anger management.

Long story short I had three oil leaks diagnosed by them. I was given a quote, my husband checked around and it was by far the lowest rate. We scheduled the service and dropped it off. While working on the car they discovered my oil pan had been stripped and would have to be replaced. This would cost twice as much as my original quote! Before I could even think about how I would pay that....they asked when I got my oil changed normally. Luckily it was in the same parking lot as them, the manager talked with jiffy lube and showed them that it was their fault and they would have to pay for it to be repaired. After a few more days they had received payment from jiffy lube and had my car completed. They had an amazing mechanic who stayed late 9:30pm to get my car to me that day. My x5 has never run so smooth. I will only be coming here for anything car related! You won't be disappointed! read more

Reliable, fast, fair prices and best of all TRUSTWORTHY. We have had multiple bad experiences with both of the BMW dealerships, and consider ourselves fortunate to have tried Foreign Autohaus. The job was done quickly, correctly and cost less than the estimate. The $2,200 job quoted by BMW of Roseville was completed here for $335 (estimated at $450). I waited a month to post this review to see if my BMW would suffer a "mysterious and unexpected" breakdown, but it is still running like new. We've taken our Audi TT in a few times for major repairs. Our timing belt went the week before we planned to have it replaced, causing major damage. They completed the work satisfactorily, but the rates here are definitely inflated compared to the other independent European shops we've been to. We've been in a couple times since then for other issues, and we always feel like you can't be sure if they're selling you on stuff you don't need and at higher than normal rates. We've decided we're just uncomfortable going back and are on the lookout for another shop closer than Davis. read more

ok this is long overdue... but i wanted to let everyone know that these guys are honest and fair. I went in for a pre-purchase inspection for an older BMW325 (from yelper Spencer B - who left a dishonest review). the shop saved me and my 16 year old son from heartache and a lot of money down the road. The car owner got very angry and had to be asked to leave the property because of his attitude. His friend (yelper Jonathen O.) had come along for the ride (NOT as the customer he claims to have been that day) -he writes in his false yelp review that he had brought in his car for service and "witnessed" an employee harass a customer over a clutch issue (his friend Spencer). Disregard their yelp reviews with their false claims. Jason, the current owner, who was there that day, is great! He and his staff really are honest and friendly and willing to help! My brother also had a great experience with this shop after he had some trouble with his BMW after running over a dead deer in the road. The guys hoisted up his car and cleaned everything out and checked it and told him that nothing was needed other than a power wash! Talk about honest! The repairs were done on time, on budget and they were even able to accommodate me with a loaner car - that's unheard of. Some might say that it's all about plugging in the newer cars to the diagnostic equipment and replacing parts, but that's definitely not the case with the Land Rover from the UK. I had shops turn me away, try to gouge me on price or were simply too scared to take on the project. Bring in your most exotic work, they can handle it. read more

I've been going to foreign autohaus for close to two years for various routine maintenance. The team there has always been professional and showed extreme expertise. They KNOW what they are doing. I drive an Italian car that I can't really take anywhere else because frankly they wouldn't even have the right tools let alone know what to do. There have been a few occasions where they even called me back after I approved a quote to let me know that after a second review I didn't need a particular part/service. The place is always booked up with cars everywhere waiting to be fixed. They are so busy, they don't have time to play games. If you want your vehicle fixed correctly by a pro and done at a fair price, this is your shop. They are not the cheapest, so if your looking for a cheap fix for an older vehicle, etc .. they may not be a good fit. But, if you love your car, take it to them. Worst experience and value bar none with a mechanic. Took the car in with a question about an airbag issue related to the wiring harness because after market seats had been installed. Explained that to them before bringing the car in. They took pictures of the wiring harness, which can be easily seen, and charged a $148 for those pictures. For that $148, I had to press to figure to out if it was cut at the seat or the car. It became clear the person I was speaking with did not know what he was talking about but tried to make us feel like idiots for asking. After pressing him, he checked with another person who actually took the pictures to at least give us some information for the money we paid. If you like the arrogant but seem to not really know I'm talking about vibe and throwing away money then this is place for you! There is not even a remote chance I would have work done here in the future and would certainly not recommend this shop. The people buying my BMW 325 took it in for a PPI. They attempted to say that the car needed a clutch, when it had just been replaced. I stated that it had been replaced recently (within less than 30,000 miles ago) and there was no need for a clutch. The clutch was not slipping and showed no sign of issue. Immediately after telling them that, I had the OWNER of this establishment come and start threatening me saying he was going to kick my a** and drag me out of the store if I kept talking. I kept my cool, and he kept threatening me and getting in my face. Very very unprofessional. I have been around cars for years and know my way around them quite well. My vehicle is an older car, and when it came in they saw an easy target. But after showing them they couldn't lie to me, they got angry. Everyone stay far away! The owner is a scammer, and threatens you when facts are stated. He is a very violent aggressive man. UPDATE: after almost 2 months, the owner decided to write me today, proceeded to tell me to get a life and that I didn't know the business. He is all the about the money and not about the quality. He's in this business to make a quick buck, he is a wannabe, horrible business man, as I have seen other negative reviews. Please, anyone that is going to take your car there please re think it. Anyone that does business like this guy should be ashamed. read more

The check engine light came on my daughters car and I placed my code reader on the car and it read crank shaft timing sensor malfunction. So I called the Foreign Autohaus. I mentioned the code and the sales manager said "they don't just hang parts on cars", he would need to charge me for a diagnoses with his code reader. Should have trusted my gut and hung up the phone. If you think making an appointment means your car will get looked at that day think again. After a day and a half, I finally got my diagnosis in the form of a text and a link which I really was thankful for because the mechanic's notes clearly stated a sensor was simply unplugged which he believed was the cause of the check engine light. However, the salesman wanted to repair every single possible fault the car could have including replacing a hose that was replaced less then a year ago. When I told him when it was replaced he mentioned they include that hose replacement because it usually rips when they do the other work he recommended. His total up charge was to the tune of $3,000 dollars. Needless to say I politely said I would just pay for the diagnosis. I am glad that is all I paid, since the engine light is now no longer on and all the mechanic did was plug in the sensor. Thanks but no thanks. I guess Autohaus means up seller in German....Proceed with caution my fellow German car enthusiasts. read more

My headlights went out the day before I had a 5am shift at work. I'm not in the financial position to miss any shifts so I was really stressing about getting my lights fixed as soon as possible. Raphael and his guys were not only able to help me out that day, they had me in and out in less than an hour! I sat in the nicest shop lobby I've ever been in and the guys checked in on me a few times even though the labor didn't take that long. They even let me know about a few concerns they had about my engine as well so I could make a follow up appointment. Excellent service!
