It's been a little while since I've made my way out to Main Street, but they had me with all the different tea choices. The ordering process is pretty easy. You can choose to either build your own with their many bases and toppings or choose one of their signature drinks. I'm a basic gal; I like me some oolong slightly sweetened. I ordered the iron buddha, 50% sugar. The tea was still strong and smooth and definitely wasn't diluted like many places nearby. Went back for a second round just a few weeks later because I was so curious about their rose cream foam. This time I opted for green tea. The rose cream foam did overpower the drink a bit so I lost some of the jasmine flavor, but it was nice and creamy. Honestly, I'd probably order this combo again because black tea sometimes is too much caffeine for me. If you get a foam option, I'd go with less or no ice so you could enjoy it better. I kept my drink to normal ice and once I got close to finishing the drink, the foam got lost between ice cubes. Quality control seems to have improved already as my boba was in better shape this time. Staff, as always, is extremely friendly and there's a really pleasant vibe here. Like I saw customers go up to other customers they don't know to ask what drink combo they got. The echo inside can make it a bit hard to hear at times so I wouldn't bring a date here, but would be a nice spot to hang out with friends. I've seen the line for this place on weekends and opt to go during the week instead to beat the crowd. I saw this spot on tiktok and knew I had to try it out! 626/SGV has so many different boba spots so I was really excited to try Formosa Aroma out. One thing to note is that it is pretty pricey compared to other boba spots. I got the Iron Buddha Oolong with milk and boba, and the drink was nearly $8. Definitely the most I've ever paid for milk tea. However, the quality is so good and I would get it again if I wanna treat myself to some fancy boba. The taste of the iron Buddha oolong was strong and it mixed really well with the milk. The boba here is on the smaller and softer side, which is nice for a change since I'm used to the regular sized boba. One downside was that my order got lost. I waited for about 30 minutes for my drink and went up to ask about my order and the workers immediately went to make my drink. Pretty disappointed because everyone else's order was being made while mine got lost somewhere along the way :( If I lived near here I would want to try studying here but it could get pretty loud on weekends since a lot of families and groups of friends would come here to hang out. I stumbled across this place as I was running some errands and the place seems very inviting. The nice glass windows brought in a lot of sunlight which is a really nice place to study. I noticed that they had a lot of plugs along the wall. I got a Golden Phoenix milk tea with matcha pudding and it came about to be like $8! I see from other reviews that they were giving out a 15% discount but I got no discount! And if I did, it still came out to be $8?! I got the non dairy creamer (50 cents additional) and the tea was just ok.... the flavor just wasn't very present. I was expecting a deep rich tea flavor especially for the price. I suppose they use high quality tea leaves which is why you're paying such a high price tag. I will say that the matcha pudding was excellent and I could really taste the matcha flavor. Since this is brand new, the customer service was super friendly. It took awhile for my drink to be made as I watched them mess up my drink... (they had to remake mine) it's forgiven since the employees are still being trained. I'm not sure if I would return given the price. read more

Known for its vast selection of teas. One thing I noticed was that it's the first boba shop that was completely customizable with a variety of tea and milk options to choose from. For those who are lactose they have a variety of milk like oat milk, almond milk, and evaporated milk for substitute. I ordered the assam black milk tea with non-dairy creamer and Crystal boba. I felt like I didn't taste much tea. Not sure if it there was too much milk... but my friend said that they get less milk for that reason. But they still didn't taste much tea in their drink again even with modification. I would recommend them fixing their tea-to-milk ratio. Also FYI they charge extra $0.50 for dairy change and $0.75 per topping. So the drink almost comes out to $8. For a drink that almost cost the same as a meal, I expect better quality tea. I usually get 50% sugar in my drinks. But I got the crystal boba and i'm not sure what they coated it with but it made the drink super super sweet. So beware if you're pre-diabetic and don't get the toppings. Theres plenty of free parking in the structure in the back and the shop has a good amount of tables to sit and has a clean interior design with a wall of all their tea leaves they offer. Came on a Saturday afternoon and while they were not too busy, it still took a while for my drink to come out. I can see them getting busier and wait times getting longer but I think it's worth since they specialize in tea with a variety of tea base to choose from. I like that for their milk tea, you can choose exactly how you want your drink from tea base, to dairy, to toppings. I ended up getting the jasmine milk tea with non-dairy creamer with pudding. While the pudding was a little overpowering, I still really enjoyed the jasmine milk tea. The Iron Buddha was the standout for both of us--it had a delightful roasted oak aroma that was perfectly balanced and not overly nutty, making it an absolute win at 5 stars. As for the Oriental Beauty, I'd give it 4 stars. While it was nice, it didn't have the same herbaceous and floral notes I usually enjoy from other places. We opted for 50% sweetness on the Iron Buddha, which turned out to be just right! If you add boba, I'd recommend lowering the sweetness to 30% for that perfect balance. I think I came with fairly high expectations with all the hype, aesthetic, and their teaspresso machine... reminds me a bit like Chicha San chen in so many ways. Waited for a solid 30mins to get my drink. Unfortunately I think the tea came a bit watered down in my opinion. For some place that should win with quality tea leaves and machine, I didn't feel the tea stood out with our drinks. I got the pink guava yakult green tea, which the guava and yakult did stand out but I think I prefer the spin off at Bopomofo with their bala matcha if I'm ever craving a strong guava taste. As for my boyfriend's Assam milk tea, he ordered with no sugar, soy milk and aloe vera. Unfortunately the tea flavor did not stand out and black teas are normally pretty strong. It felt very watered down. For the wait, I personally don't think it's worth. The aesthetic is nice and parking is easy out back but I can't justify the wait for this right now. Tried this place and it was a bit of a wait but it was good overall. The drinks were good, light and not heavy, not too sweet. The service was nice. This one guy waiter checked in with me after I checked to see if my order was on the counter. The second time, he remembered and gave me my order. Really nice guy. Would come back, but probably when it's less crowded and the hype dies down. The two drinks we ordered were: Formosa Sesame Typhoon-it's good, not too black sesame, a good amount. This is a new boba place on Main Street in Alhambra so decided to check it out. Got the golden phoenix oolong with rose cream foam and ube taro purée (no ice and 30% sweetness). Overall it's pretty good but I would prefer the actual tea flavor to be stronger. Although I ordered 30% sweetness it felt more like 50% to 60% sweetness because of the rose cream foam and ube taro purée so if you do want toppings take those into consideration! The amount of ube taro purée they gave is really decent! I think those are already sweetened but really creamy! For the rose cream foam, I personally didn't think the rose flavor was strong but it could also just be disguised by the taro purée. The inside is pretty nice with quite a few tables (with chargers at most tables by the wall). When I went around 12:30pm on a Saturday, the line wasn't long and I got my drink in about 10 minutes but I can see how this place can get packed. read more

The menu is quite vast and they really only had it posted at the entrance of the door. They do have a screen displaying half of their menu, but doesn't include everything. We decided to try a few drinks off their menu. Their tea selection is great but I wound definitely advise not getting their milk teas. It was overly too milky and we weren't able to taste any of the brown sugar nor the tea. The place is fairly new so I would come back to try their other drinks. Wow, I was really surprised when I tried this place for the first time~ I got the biluochon since I've never had it before. I got it at 50% sweetness with boba and it was BOMB!! You can really taste the tea flavor even with less sugar. The only thing that I didn't like was the boba clumped together. I also tried the milk tea with matcha pudding the other time. It's good. I actually like the matcha pudding since it has a strong flavor. I kind of understand why some people don't like the pudding since it's on the softer side and not as silky as usual. The boba here is just GOOD! I don't want to sound like too much of a boba snob (but I just might be!) but I do think that the more you understand and develop a palette for tea and boba the more you will appreciate this place! First let me take a step back from my high horse lol and say that obviously boba drinks are just meant to be fun, tasty, etc.. and if they taste good to you, then they are good! Everyone has their own flavor profile so of course how you choose to enjoy your boba drinks is up to you and I respect that! THAT being said! From a connoisseur perspective-- for me the quality of the tea comes first. The better the tea, the better the taste and even value you get. I also don't want my boba too sweet or too rich with milk or whatever else is added because if you are getting good tea, you want to taste the tea. It's like going to a bar and getting an expensive top shelf whiskey and then pouring soda in it- you lose all the subtle notes of the whiskey so it's wasted. If you get a cheap whiskey then obviously you want to mix it so you hide the bad flavors. The fact that Formosa Aroma knows their teas and allows you to SELECT which type of tea you want (with explanation on level of roast and fermentation) tells you the understanding for the different selection of teas not just "milk tea" in general. It's like a good coffee shop that allows you to select what kind of coffee beans you want. I won't get too into it, but also their method of extraction of the tea is top notch (comparable to Chi Cha San Chen) so you get more aroma and flavors out of the tea. Moreover, just because you extract well, you still have to balance the flavors and Formosa Aroma just gets it right. read more

I did not like this place/my drink/my friends drinks at all... when you first enter, there is a strong tea fragrance which got me super excited because you would think the drink would come to have a strong tea flavor.. but my drink was filled with disappointment. I ordered the Iron Buddha Tea ($5.75) + non dairy creamer ($0.50) + boba ($0.75) = total came out to be $7.72. I also ordered 50% ice and 30% sweet.. and let me tell you.. my drink really sucks. It tasted super diluted, no tea flavor or fragrance, and it almost tasted like I can make it at home myself by literally using a tea bag and putting coffee creamer together. I also did not like that they put SMALL boba in my drink. I was expecting the big/normal size boba. The menus should specify this.. My other friends got a mango yogurt sago, a rose cream foam milk tea, and a golden phoenix oolong. The best drink of the three was the golden phoenix oolong - refreshing and good amount of tea flavor (but still not the best boba I have ever had compared to other places). The mango yogurt sago was decent (but still not the best I have ever had), and the rose cream foam was a bit underwhelming. My friend had an issue with this drink because she put 100% sweet but it tasted like no sugar was added... Staff was friendly and nice though but the tea was just not up to par with what I'd expect. I'm conflicted. This place deserves a second chance, but our first time experience was more than subpar. Ambiance and decor: 10/10. Wait time for beverages: 15 mins+ (ours took about 25 minutes) Beverage score: 7/10 Our drink order was messed up twice. The workers were very gracious about rectifying their mistakes, but this did add to our overall wait time which was extensive as the shop was pretty busy. The layout of the shop includes a few tables, so parties waiting for their drinks are awkwardly standing around or outside, but there's a necessity to be inside as drink orders are called out verbally. There's a table placed in between their entrance to the kitchen and the restroom that's a bit awkward. As for the drinks: the tea is very fresh. This is apparent from the aroma that greets you when entering the shop. The flavor though, we found to be quite lacking.
