This place never disappoints!!! I got the dinner special with hot and sour soup, pork fried rice, Mongolian beef with sweet and sour pork. My daughter got the dinner special with chow mien , walnut shrimp and orange chicken and my husband got the special with pork fried rice mushroom chicken and sweet and sour pork. This is a good Chinese sit down Chinese restaurant. We happened to passed by and decided to give it a try. This is Dec 26, 2025 and they seemed moderately busy from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. I cannot remember the reason why the forks and spoons are plastics and not the silverware. Personally, I do not mind whether the utensils are plastics or stainless steel as long as they provided means to eat the foods. We ordered hot and sour soup, salt and pepper chicken wings and beef chow fun. The hot and sour soup tasted good! The beef chow fun too watery and fried chicken wings not what I used to. This is a family owned restaurant and so, I can see the brother-sisters worked hard taking care of the front. If you are coming from SFO or LAX, please don't set too high expectations on and you will be HAPPY that you get to eat decent Chinese foods when you are craving for Chinese foods that you left behind. This place is definitely an improvement over the place that was here before! Their fried rice and chow mein are better than the other local place, but the entrees are about on par with them. The food is good, but there are some oddities. The chicken for the orange chicken is cut in weird strips so it made me think it was shrimp versus chicken when I first tried it. The cashew shrimp is so full of zucchini and other veg that it was difficult to find the actual shrimp. If you don't like your food spicy, you also need to emphasize to them that it needs to be NOT spicy but that's not a huge deal since all of the other localish Asian places seem to have a bit of an issue with the words "NOT spicy," too. The one criticism I have is that they refuse to serve a combo plate with half fried rice and half chow mein. They don't seem to understand that concept for some reason. It's really strange since all the other places are happy to accommodate for that. Here you need to choose one and if you want the other, you must get a full order of it separately. I'd really rather just have half and half, it shouldn't be difficult to do. read more

Tried this place for the first time yesterday. So far, it did not disappoint. The restaurant was very clean and bright. Plenty of space & seating. I was greeted by very sweet friendly smiles who were eager to help me. Although, when I placed my order over the phone and was quoted 40 min., I was there in 25 min. so that I can pay (daughter had to use restroom) I was surprised by the news my order would be ready in 2 minutes. They are definitely fast. My order total was $39 for: - veggie chow mein (great smoky taste, not greasy) - mongolian beef (awesome bold flavors, good portion of beef!) - sweet & sour soup (it was good/decent) Overall, everything was good! Well what can I say, I'm impressed. This will be one of my go to places in Soledad. It's real good! The food is tasty and fresh. The price was 14.99 for the dinner special which isn't bad. But it's just a box filled with 3 entrees. I think it be worth 10.99 but it's okay, it's pretty good portions and tasty food. I can't believe I hadn't been here. I was missing out hehe. It's a place I can invite people to eat at here beside Dennys or the Windmill. If you know what I mean Soledad people. Will definitely be back couple times a month lol. read more

Tried Fortune Garden for the first time and it exceeded my expectations. Starting off, the woman working at the front was so sweet! She gave me some free sesame balls. When she saw that I was pregnant, she immediately offered me some cold water while I waited for my food. I didn't wait long my food, and she gave me an additional free egg flower soup and carried my order to the car. I always eat at restaurant several times before reviewing. Hear my thoughts. First off and most important the most food is awesome, even the stuff I find ok (personal preference) is better than anything else in SoMoCo. Noodle and appetizers are the standout for me. Service wise you get friendly and fast. For lunch specials it been 10-15 min wait then for larger dinner orders (7-8 items) 25-30 minutes. I give only done take out but from I've seen servers are attentive to people dining in. Value let's face it everything getting more expensive these days. $11-$12 may seem high for a lunch special but those plates are full. We usually don't finish the whole plate in one sitting and it's definitely much more satisfying that any of those $9-$10 combo meal fast food options. Plus first Chinese place I've seen that does lunch specials 7 days a week. It's the same for the ala cart items. The containers are packed in my household easily get 2 meals some items 3 from our dinner orders. read more

This was the first time I tried this restaurant since it just opened here in town. Already my favorite place. The food is delicious! And I finally found a place that makes egg rolls like Golden Star in Salinas used to make them when Sandy owned the place. The pork fried rice is also similar in taste to Golden Star. We tried the Szechwan Beef and the General Tao's chicken. Both very tasty. The young woman who was working the register was extremely nice and repeated what I ordered to make sure all was correct. She threw in a bunch of fortune cookies and then gifted us some free sesame balls just like Sandy at Golden Star used to do sometimes. I am so happy we have a great place to go to. Fortune garden took over the ole China 1 in Soledad ,Ca. And to be honest , they are gift from god lol. This is by far the best Chinese food place in south county. My favorites are the bbq pork fried rice , beef chow mein and the sesame chicken! And also their crab Rangoon is one of the best I've had. The service is fast. Usually wait about 15-20 min for my order . The whole place is remodeled which is nice because the previous place was starting to feel stale and smelly . We're passing through Soledad looking for a rice dinner. There is a teriyaki place that we were wanting to go but we got curious why the next door chinese place is so busy, so we had to try it. The servers were very friendly and seated us right away. The place looks new and fresh. Our server was attentive to our food restrictions and gave good recommendations. Once our order is in, there was a bit of a wait, but not too bad and understandably so because people were in and out picking up orders to go (always a good sign that the food will be yummy). We were pleasantly surprised with the (I assume) complimentary hot-off-the-pan sesame balls, which were the real deal. Every time I go there I get sweet&sour soup and red bean paste balls as a complimentary appetizer, which I think is a nice touch. Their food is well seasoned, fresh, and delicious. Even the things I find ok are just because they're not my taste, not the quality. The restaurant itself is open and spacious, with booths and tables you can sit at. Overall, 10/10. We were on a long drive and wanted to have a real meal. Soledad was on the path, and we stopped by the Fortune Garden based on the number of five-star reviews. We were REALLY happy that we did. The food was delicious, and the plates were heaping with food. We got the family combo for four, which included appetizers and a huge bowl of soup -- the combo is an amazing value, since each of the main dishes was the same price as the per-person price ... so the soup and apps are free, really. Service was quick, friendly, helpful. They don't sell alcohol, but were fine with BYO (and fortunately we had a few drinks in the car ... don't judge me!) The ambiance is dive (table or booth, take your pick) with a little Chinatown thrown in (waving kitties for sale, wrapped in plastic behind the counter). The staff were awesome to a person (we interacted with three different people, and they were all great). So ... don't go for the ambiance unless you like dives, go for the food and the service because they are exceptional. We also took leftovers that fed us for two days as well, and they were awesome too.
