As others have mentioned the prices are definitely steeper than other Chinese restaurants around here, but the food is good. That being said, we would never get sushi here again. We ordered three rolls. They were about on par with anything that would come from a grocery store. The rice Was not the correct texture, the fish was minimal, and the rolls were expensive for what they were (spicy salmon and California). Large servings of average Chinese food, and you'll have to pay for it. We used to order takeout from here fairly often because it is solid and convenient, but they almost never get the order right. We tried again recently and it was the same story. Eating in the restaurant is always a nice dining experience as is it spacious and charming, and the staff is very warm. If you eat here, order something from the house specialties section - I have had many of these are they are the highlight of the menu. We ate with a large party at f fourteen on Christmas Eve. As always, they were super busy but the servers did their very best to Take care of us. Food was not up to their Usual standards. One of my coworkers gave me a gift card to this place so we had to try it. The only way I would describe it is a grown up Panda Express. The hubby ordered that Hunan vegetable and they were delicious! Definitely recommend that. I ordered the Tao chicken which had an orange chicken flavor to them. My food was okay. I ordered a side of chili and they brought me what seemed like homemade sriracha. It tasted a bit off and not really spicy. My daughter wasn't really hungry so she just ordered the skewers from the appetizer menu. Her chicken was good not great but good. The chicken wasn't too chickeny if you know what I mean. It has been a while since we have been here but thought we would try it again. We got a mixture of Chinese food and sushi. I would say the Chinese food was very good. Unfortunately, the sushi here was some of the worst sushi I have probably ever had. For as expensive as they are, the rice was very mushy and the rolls had the tiniest amount of actual fish in them. Finally, they were tasteless. I normally wouldn't post this much detail about it but because the roles are so expensive I figured others should know. The service was also a little bit odd. We weren't actually greeted by a server but rather one of them simply came up and dropped waters off at the table and turned around and walked away. This was after being at the table for probably almost 10 minutes. She didn't say hello or smile or anything. Then she came back a few minutes later and simply said what would you like. The two appetizers we ordered came out five minutes apart from each other and then each of our main dishes came out separate separately and several minutes apart. the sushi finally arrived almost 15 minutes after our main dishes arrived. To wait that long for the sushi that I already described was very frustrating. This is not a place our family will be returning to anytime soon. We typically love this place, but this last time was VERY disappointing. I called in our order & while Togo is not optimal it's been fine in the past. Definitely not as good as eating in, but this wasn't our first time taking their good Togo. They read off the list of items I had and asked if that was correct. I told her yes & asked if everything listed was in the bag bc I live 30 min away. She assured me that it was but I told her I was still going to look through the bag myself and double check. I even called over a manager to help me move through it more quickly because we had a large order. We very quickly realized there was a second bag that they hadn't given me. Their General Tso's chicken is a star dish, with sizable chunks of chicken with a delious sause. It's one of the very best in town. Also love their Mou Shu chicken or pork. Broccoli cooked perfectly; too crunchy and undercooked often. Option for fried rice instead of steamed (for a small upcharge) is very nice. The issue? Very under seasoned and the broccoli shrimp dish in particular tasted like .... Air. Nothing. The General's chicken had some flavor but mild and the sauce was quite thin. When my friends and family suggested Fortune Wok, I was reluctant because I have been eating healthier. However, I discovered that they have two incredible healthy non-fried options! Another reason to love this place! They offer chicken lettuce cups and Saigon shrimp spring rolls (on the appetizer page). I decided to try the spring rolls, and they were delicious. Shrimp was fresh, cucumber and lettuce were fresh, and there was just enough rice but not enough to be carb-heavy. The peanut sauce made it unbelievably tasty! I just want to say how EXTREMELY frustrating it was to go to this restaurant this evening. We called to order take out at 4:45 pm. We were told it would not be ready until 6:30. That's fine. We received a text message letting us know it would be pushed back to 7. That's fine. We drive almost 20 minutes to the restaurant to pick up the food. We wait in line for 20 minutes before being acknowledged and told that we would not be getting our food. Three hours later and we have no dinner. I will state a few things first. Chinese is my comfort food, I've lived in 5 states within 20 years, and I'm a former chef. I say that to quantify the following, Fortune Wok is the best Chinese (without having Dim Sum) I've had anywhere in terms of family goodness. The menu is extensive without having pages of like items, the food is excellent, the portions generous, the service fast, and they have good items that are hard to find. I moved to Austin in June of 2021 and I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant that has the items that Fortune Wok does along with the quality. Now this review will slightly differ in terms of one of the staples of a restaurant, consistency from its sister on 135th St. That said, lets get to this, shall we? Walk in and the atmosphere is open and inviting. The restaurant is clean and guests are all smiling. The staff are quick to fill drinks, and there is a TV to distract those who aren't glued to their phones. There is an open bar that is very nice for a Chinese restaurant with a well-stocked bar. To the right is a sushi bar for the adventurous and a small row of chairs and tables, although I've never seen anyone over there. As for apps, the crab rangoons are fried to perfection and not greasy much like the egg rolls, or anything fried. The chicken skewers are bites of heaven, succulent and tasty. To be honest all of their apps are downright good, just pick one without fear of it not being fulfilling. The shrimp (or any protein) fried rice is perfect. Flavors are on point, veggies are slightly firm while having a nice char, and the rice not gummy. The Mei Fun (or house noodle) is a slightly lighter, gluten free fair using rice noodles and having onions, egg, etc. This is one of my favorite dishes to get. The Beef chow fun is my hands down favorite. The beef is toothsome but not gummy, simmered in a rich Chinese gravy with the most delectable fat noodles I've ever had, minus Italian pappardelle. The difference here on this particular dish is 135th St always have consistence ingredients. Whereas the Metcalf restaurant changes up their dish almost every time I get it. Finally, the Lo Mein is a simple yet flavorful. The noodles are cooked perfectly and the flavors are truly Chinese with hints of ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and dark soy. Be warned, all of these starchy dishes fill you up quick. Other great dishes include but not limited to are Mongolian Beef, General Tao's chicken, Sesame chicken, and Wok roasted Shrimp & scallops. Just to note they also offer sushi but I only get sushi from Japanese restaurants b/c in my mind the nationality of the restaurant should focus on their foods and regions, not other cultures. So, I wouldn't go to a French restaurant and order Pad Thai. But I'm sure it's probably not bad but that's just me. If you live in Overland park I highly suggest this restaurant for the best Chinese you'll find.... In many STATES! All the options are well crafted, authentic and filling while being relatively cheap. You can't go wrong and Fortune Wok has my seal of approval. read more

We have been dining there for 20! Years. Last night we ate the moo shu pork and it was awful. The pork was fatty and tough and I'm not sure that it was actually pork! It was shocking how bad it was. I recently re-discovered this restaurant when I started working down the street. I have been to their other location a few times but didn't remember it being this good! We usually come during lunch and it is such a great deal. You get so much food! Their salad and crab rangoons are so good! My daughter doesn't usually eat raw fish but LOVES the samurai roll here! This is now her favorite restaurant. I have been trying something new each time I come in and have not been disappointed! So far my favorite dishes are the wok roasted chicken and samurai roll. (Not pictured) a side note in regards, the 143rd and Metcalf store seems to produce better quality food in regards to the sister location in Olathe. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the staff is friendly and the service is reasonable. I've been here on multiple occasions and the food is always mediocre at best. I've gotten their sushi, dumplings and a couple other dishes and they all are lousy. The dumplings taste like they are filled with cat food. I don't eat meat and ordered vegetarian dumplings and didn't realize they were filled with meat until I bit into them. I get mistakes happen but this isn't out of the normal for when I have come here. Their sushi is pretty gross. I love sushi and don't expect west coast freshness but they honestly shouldn't serve sushi if this is what you get.
