Pickup during a pandemic can be interesting.

First things first, I ordered WAY TO MUCH FOOD! I ordered two entrees each for us so we'd have leftovers. I didn't expect to have a week's worth of food! Here's what I ordered (ordered online for pickup): Appetizer Tray (for 2) Cashew Chicken Beef with Broccoli Sesame Chicken Dragon & Phoenix I'll start by saying I paid 50¢ per entree to upgrade to fried rice, which was probably the worst financial decision I've made in awhile. The rice maybe had a tiny bit of soy sauce in it. It definitely wasn't anything special that should warrant a 50¢ upcharge. I would think if you are going to upcharge, it might have a little bit of something in it besides a drop of soy sauce. Maybe one frozen pea or a stray chunk of carrot. So after I got over the initial sting of disappointment from that, I moved over the appetizers. This is something I typically order when we're trying a place to give an idea of what they have, including "how much of this came out of a box of frozen prefabricated food". It was okay. Nothing special. Unmemorable. The entrees themselves were fine. I enjoy Dragon and Phoenix and appreciate when restaurants offer it. The shrimp portion of the dish was quite spicy. Which, I'm used to it being spicy, but this was a bit more than I'm used to. It was still good, maybe a bit more sauce than shrimp, but the shrimp were a good size. I did pick up in the restaurant. They have the dining area kind of blocked off on one side just for sanitary pick up. That works pretty well. The person was wearing one glove, which I'm not sure really helps when you are handling things with both hands. She was also wearing a mask around her chin, which I also wonder why bother.

My chicken with veggies combo dine-in lunch ($7.25) was served about seven minutes after I ordered at the table. The serving size was generous, with plenty of tasty fried rice, plenty of okay meat, and a fair variety of slightly under-cooked veggies with delicious mushrooms. The egg roll was my favorite part of the meal, and the crab rangoon had a good amount of creamy goodness. The dining area was fairly nice and clean, with a TV (not turned on) and no background music. There was a little bit of a language barrier. Overall A-OK.

It's ok. Nothing special and the quality of meat is very low. You could do worse but this is underwhelming.

The Mongolian beef was a lot more soupy and liquid filled than expected and the wontons for the egg drop soup were stale.

"Premier" isn't marketing flair - it's accurate. This is, hands down, the best raw bar in Kansas City. We arrived for our 5:15 p.m. reservation in the main dining room and were warmly greeted by Allison, our server. She struck the perfect balance - friendly, engaging, and attentive throughout the meal. A great start to the evening. For two diners, we wanted to explore as much of the menu as possible. Before ordering food, we were told the signature Frozen Gin & Tonic was a must. It lived up to the reputation - bright, refreshing, and expertly balanced. The only thing that would have made it better was a slightly warmer dining room. We're big mussel fans, so we opened with the Bangs Island Mussels - and they set the bar high. A generous portion of plump mussels bathed in a white wine and roasted tomato broth that was deeply flavorful without being heavy. The toasted bread was perfect for soaking up every last bite. Simply outstanding. Next came the NOLA-Style Shrimp Gumbo. Served in a small bowl, but packed with richness and depth. Adding a touch of hot sauce brought just the right amount of heat and complexity. A standout dish. My wife - having happily overindulged in mussels and bread - opted for a lighter course: a single Maryland Crab Cake, available fried or broiled. It was almost all crab, clean and flavorful, with a satisfying crust. She couldn't finish it...so I did. When you go to a raw bar, oysters are non-negotiable. I ordered a half dozen featuring both East and West Coast varieties. Each one was pristine, briny, and fresh, and the horseradish had just the right bite. For my entrée, I chose the Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp - four large prawns, each wrapped in crisp, smoky bacon. Simple, well-executed, and a strong finish to the savory courses. Dessert did not disappoint. My wife loved the Lemon Pistachio Chess Torte, while I devoured the Bourbon Apple Tart. She noted that the toasted meringue reminded her of marshmallows - a detail that made us smile. The dining room is intimate and can get noisy as it fills up. Next time, we'll likely try the patio for a different vibe. Pacing throughout the meal was spot-on, dishes came out promptly from the kitchen, and Allison's service tied everything together into a truly memorable evening. We'll definitely be back - and soon.

Allison walked us through the various oysters on the menu as well as a variety of mains and wines. As for food, I will just say that everything we ordered was excellent. The stars of the evening, though, were the tots and caviar as well as the roasted oysters. This evening, though, was truly made by Allison. This woman was incredibly personable, amazingly efficient, and beautifully professional. Allison is, perhaps, the best all around server we have had in months, maybe a whole year. This was our family's first time at Earl's, but certainly won't be our last.
