Crispy, Delicious Orange Chicken! Those four words paired together make me very happy when it comes to Chinese food. The orange peel gives the dish such wonderful flavor! Served family style with large pieces of chicken, white rice and Crab Rangoon appetizer, I could not have been more happy with my first visit to this Yelp find. Quick and friendly service. We ordered carry out and got firecracker chicken, veg spring rolls and veg lowmein . The spring rolls and lowmein were alright but the chicken was really dry , so much that we couldn't chew it and had to throw away more than half of it. Really disappointing. The firecracker chicken was priced at $17 for dinner not cheap either. If I was dining in that chicken would have gone back to their kitchen. Not ordering again from here. read more

So many good menu items: try the wok roasted shrimp. Break away from your normal crab Rangoon and eggrolls. Ask the servers for something new. Try volcano shrimp or wonton shrimp appetizers, salt & pepper shrimp entree! They have all the regular American Chinese version standbys but so much more--many unique menu items. If you can stand the seemingly chaotic atmosphere at times, the food and the service (when you do get it) are great and deserve 5 stars! The salt and pepper tofu with shrimp is one of the best things I've ever had. The beef chow fun, the tofu and chicken hot pot, and the sichzan green beans, are also fantastic. My family & I visited Fortune Wok this weekend & we can't stop talking about how amazing the food & service was! Four of the seven members of our family are gluten free, the staff went above & beyond giving recommendations & making items gluten free that weren't on the menu. We loved the GF Mongolian beef, GF spring rolls, GF Orange chicken, & fried rice! Peking beef is a must try for the gluten eaters. It was fun eating family style & trying dishes. I just figured this would be just another Chinese food restaurant with overly battered, small cuts of chicken, and the standard fare. But this place was AMAZING. There is a large selection. I ordered a dynamite chicken and my son ordered the wok seared chicken. First, there may have been a little toss of flour on chicken pieces, but it was really great pieces without much else. The flavoring was so good, I seriously couldn't believe this was a strip mall in Overland Park Chinese restaurant. We each ordered fried rice. We are both very big guys and eat a lot, but neither of us could eat even half of our meal! You HAVE to try this place. read more

I will state a few things first. Chinese is my comfort food, I've lived in 5 states within 20 years, and I'm a former chef. I say that to quantify the following, Fortune Wok is the best Chinese (without having Dim Sum) I've had anywhere in terms of family goodness. The menu is extensive without having pages of like items, the food is excellent, the portions generous, the service fast, and they have good items that are hard to find. I moved to Austin in June of 2021 and I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant that has the items that Fortune Wok does along with the quality. Now this review will slightly differ in terms of one of the stables of a restaurant, consistency from its sister on Metcalf. That said, lets get to this, shall we? Walk in and the atmosphere is open and inviting. The restaurant is clean and guests are all smiling. The staff are quick to fill drinks, and there is a TV to distract those who aren't glued to their phones. There is an open bar that is very nice for an Chinese restaurant with a well-stocked bar. As for apps, the crab rangoons are fried to perfection and not greasy much like the egg rolls, or anything fried. The chicken skewers are bites of heaven, succulent and tasty. To be honest all of their apps are downright good, just pick one without fear of it not being fulfilling. The shrimp (or any protein) fried rice is perfect. Flavors are on point, veggies are slightly firm while having a nice char, and the rice not gummy. The Mei Fun (or house noodle) is a slightly lighter, gluten free fair using rice noodles and having onions, egg, etc. This is one of my favorite dishes to get. The Beef chow fun is my hands down favorite. The beef is toothsome but not gummy, simmered in a rich Chinese gravy with the most delectable fat noodles I've ever had, minus Italian pappardelle. The difference here on this particular dish is 135th St always have consistence ingredients. Whereas the sister restaurant changes up their dish almost every time I get it. Finally, the Lo Mein is a simple yet flavorful. The noodles are cooked perfectly and the flavors are truly Chinese with hints of ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and dark soy. Be warned, all of these starchy dishes fill you up quick. Other great dishes include but not limited to are Mongolian Beef, General Tao's chicken, Sesame chicken, and Wok roasted Shrimp & scallops. Just to note they also offer sushi but I only get sushi from Japanese restaurants b/c in my mind the nationality of the restaurant should focus on their foods and regions, not other cultures. So, I wouldn't go to a French restaurant and order Pad Thai. But I'm sure it's probably not bad but that's just me. If you live in Overland park I highly suggest this restaurant for the best Chinese you'll find.... In many STATES! All the options are well crafted, authentic and filling while being relatively cheap. You can't go wrong and Fortune Wok has my seal of approval. read more

Got some take out midday. I walked in, with a employee sprawled out on their entrance sofa, who got up immediately in shame because a customer had arrived. I called in earlier for a to go order. I arrived, to be told that it will be another 15 minutes because the dumplings needed that long to steam. Came home with hunan chicken (asked extra spicy), steamed pork dumplings and a hot and sour soup. The positive? Their dumplings are definitely home made and huge. I ordered a shrimp pad Thai for pickup. I picked up and saw chicken on ticket and asked which one, they said shrimp so I paid for it. I came home to see that it was chicken so I was disappointed. The taste was ok and the noodles had a weird texture (not normal pad Thai). I didn't end up finishing (even when leftover which is a little abnormal for you). I have eaten there in the past and the food was pretty good so I gave 3 stars for that. read more

Good Chinese food is hard to find! A good Chinese restaurant (for me) is defined by its appetizers, the best part of the meal. This place has some of the best crab Rangoon I've ever eaten. Tasty egg drop soup can be hard to find as well and this place hit the nail on the head. It came with a HUGE bowl of those crispy fried noodle things, which is a huge plus for me! Their pan fried dumplings were the perfect temperature. They even gave us the option to wait for all of our food at once or to get it as it done cooking which was awesome. I never had an empty glass and they even packaged our leftovers for us! A major win and my new favorite Chinese place! read more

I've been going here for 15 years, but recently, I've been mistreated with ageism every single time I've gone. I have to wave down workers after 30 minutes of silence just to get some kind of attention. In my most recent experience, we were given attitude when ordering because we had a question about the menu. Then, when our food actually came out, she threw it on our table with no eye contact and ran to serve her other table without saying a word. She checked on and spoke to every single table multiple times except ours, and we couldn't help but notice it was because we were the only young people in the restaurant. It took her 50 minutes to realize we still existed and were now running late to our next event. We had to wave her down for our check. I've noticed a pattern of ageism occurring every time I go because of how differently everyone else who is older is treated when I am there. read more

Good Chinese food option. I have never eaten in but get take out. No particular reason though. The restaurant is on the smaller side but nice. Carry out orders are always made quickly. I have never had an issue with items missing or made incorrectly. I love that the crab Rangoon is savory and not sweet. The hot and sour soup is a good option when you are getting sick. Really opens up the sinuses. I usually get shrimp fried rice and the portion side is large. I can always get multiple meals out of my one order. There is plenty of jumbo shrimp in there. What a nice find!! The food here is top-notch, and everything is a great size for sharing. We had the orange chicken, which was incredible and soomed to be all white meat! I first visited Fortune Wok over 10 years ago with friends from work. It has become a favorite place for our staff to lunch together on occasion. This is no quantity-over-quality buffet. The room itself feels nicer than average, and the prices are suited to the feel of the room. The lunch specials are generous and consistently well prepared. Dinner choices are a bit more expensive, but good for a date night of evening with friends. I'm a fan of Asian foods in general, and this restaurant is one of several in our area that's worth the visit. Consider trying the Garlic Spiced Edamame and the Wok Roasted Shrimp. read more

For more than 4 on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night, make a reservation. Rick & Minh are both great at offering suggestions of new appetizers or meals to try. We love the food. It is hopping busy, with both dine-in & carry out, but the staff literally runs to serve everyone quickly. Try the shrimp wonton or crispy beef or volcano shrimp appetizer. Get wok roasted chicken-you will not be disappointed! Often every seat is full, so atmosphere can be lively! This was the first and probably last time (first impressions, ya know). We were immediately put on hold as soon as we called, without being told we were on hold?! Anyways, the estimated time for food was 45 mins to 1 hour. Once we waited an hour and a half, I called- the food was still there. No apologies, just "yeah... we are busy" OK, I didn't ask that, I just walked about status of food. At least notify customers UPFRONT when food will be 2 or more hours! After 2 hours and 30 mins, decided to cancel and refund the order. "K, bye" is the response I got when cancelling the order.................... They're sooo many yummy Chinese restaurants to choose from, especially in OP, why choose the one least dedicated to serving you?
