Like multiple other customer experiences, staff was incredibly rude and unhelpful. It was incredibly busy and a very overwhelmed older lady took our order, she accidentally submitted our order incorrectly, that was no big deal. While receiving our food, we noticed a drink missing. We informed the staff, who wasn't present during our order, that we had two drinks, and she responded with a very abrupt, "no, you didn't" I tried to kindly confirm to her that we did, in fact, ask for two milkshakes. She didn't apologize, nor acknowledge that a mistake had been made, just abruptly interrupted and said "I can ring you up the second one" with an eye roll. We walked away from the counter, I was now shaking from the way she treated us, feeling extremely disrespected. I went back up to ask for the receipt, and when I did she responded with "what are you trying to get out of this?" To which I informed her she was being incredibly rude to me and talking down to me, I asked for her name, and she stomped away, grabbing the manager. The manager was also incredibly rude, and abrupt. More interested in her staff having the ability to treat customers like their therapists, rather than customers. Food is great, and not all the staff is like this. Fosters is always the best soft serve anywhere! Thick and rich, creamy and smooth just wonderful. A busy place for ice cream treats even in winter months. Great staff and consistently good food. Regardless of where you eat in lake county finishing with a Fosters Freeze ice treat is a must. read more

I can only vouch for their vanilla ice cream cone, but it was one of the most satisfying sweat treats I've had in a long time. My mom has been coming here since she was a kid in the early 70's. She always looked forward to getting some soft serve on the way to San Francisco, and I can see why. This is some darn delicious ice cream, and although it isn't the organic "hipster" fare that I'm used to, every lick of this delicious vanilla soft serve was pure ecstasy for me. The vanilla flavor was deep and rich, the texture was perfectly soft, and the cone was simple and classic. There's something about this treat that I just can't put into words; it was just utterly perfect, and I've been craving more since the first taste. Eating this sublime cone on their patio picnic table next to the lake with the golden sun beating down was one of the happiest moments I've had in a long while. There's truly something magical about this location. If you're passing through, definitely drop by Fosters Freeze. You'll be so glad you did! read more

Extremely rude cashiers and manager. Very abrupt and snappy at customers. Rude to a guy standing by holding his mask firmly against his nose and mouth . Made him leave because it didn't have straps. I called the manager on the phone. He was angry right out of the gate and said I was a rude customer while I was there.....um...he didn't even see me there or know who I was. When I called him out on his accusation, he hemmed and hawed. Then I asked for his name to call corporate, he refused to give it. Next he told his employee to lie when my husband went back inside less than a minute later to have her say the manager wasn't there. When my husband asked for the name of the manager, the cashier said with a smirk, that she didn't want to get involved. I ordered a Butterfinger twister. What I got was Butterfinger ice cream. I kept looking for the candy. Nope. I asked the girl where it was, she said mixed in. That is not what is advertised. Can never tell what decade it is when stepping into one of these restaurants. It's the same as it's always been, the nostalgia. As a chain type place, if you've ever been to the type, you know what you're gonna get- that's why we come to places like this. Service was nonexistent, wait to get our meals was about 25 mins, food was as to be expected (oily) and the shakes were thick but lacking in the flavors we requested. Staying in the area we came here the night before last but they were closed. They have temporary hours where they close around 7pm. Made it back tonight. Very friendly staff. Cashier provided us time and suggestions on area favorites. Order two kid meals with junior shakes. And two adult meals with shakes. Food cooked to order. Because of COVID we had to order to go. I have not had Foster Freeze in years. This was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time! The fries were also sooo good. And each of us has a different shake-all amazing. My Really Special guy friend Drives a route and delivers tires to Eureka and Crescent City. He always passes by and wanted to try this one he says there's one in Oakland. The first time I rode with him we decided to stop here and eat on our way back down to Sacramento. I loved this place the bugers are juicy and fries come with no salt which is perfect having the choice. We actually stop here everytime I ride with him. Its our place now! Its also right across from the water! The whole drive from Sacramento up to Crescent city is amazing in itself with the water and the redwoods in all their grandure. But having Fosters Freeze along the way makes these trips even more special!! I have not tried the banana split yet but on my next adventure I'll def get my banana split! read more

Normally I love Foster Freeze. They made half of my order wrong though. I asked for Mozzarella Sticks and got fried zucchini sticks instead. Driving through the mountains, I suddenly was struck with a craving for a not-very-nutritious delicious hotdog. Boy, did Fosters deliver. Instead, not-very-nutritious, not-very-delectable hotdog and side of onion rings. It's obvious that everything on the menu has at one point or another, been frozen within an inch of it's (shelf) life. The water, however, was delightfully refreshing! The ice had a particularly satisfying crunch; one that was missing entirely from the soggy onion rings. Would recommend passing up the indigestion; however if you must quench your curiousity, I would opt for a cup of water should your palate becomes parch on your drive through Lucerne. Other than the refreshing cup of cold water, the service was up to par. Even though there was an evening rush of patrons, our orders were taken and we were served in a timely manner. The lady up front running the cashier was pleasant and cordial. We have no complaints about the service. Had it not been the service, this business would have earned no stars for this review. If you can hold off on calming the hunger pangs, I would recommend passing through this quaint toen and finding another location for a bite. read more

Apparently Fosters Freeze are infamous and if you ever have the chance to go visit one, you need to go. This was our first time visiting one, and i must say... i am not that impressed. The food - average burgers, fries and shakes. Nothing different from what you would get anywhere really. The ambiance here is nice as they have outside seating and inside, but it is a smaller place not the best for larger groups unless you can sit outside. The service here was super slow as well. Took about 20 minutes to get our food as there was only 1 cashier working and not much staff on a Sunday. No need to return, but nice trying this place our finally. read more

For those long drives between Sacramento and the California-Oregon border I like to take the scenic route. This means taking Hwy 20 to/from Hwy 101. I always stop at Foster's Freeze and here's why: 1) Restroom! (but actually the one at the service station down the road a way is better) 2) Stretching of the legs! It's right there on the side of the highway and easy to pull in to the lot. 3) Food! The burgers, corn-dogs, fries, onion rings, shakes, etc are kind of old fashioned. It's comfort food for the road. My favorite to grab and go is the fried zucchini. mmm 4) And let us not forget ice cream!! Cones, sundaes, banana splits -they've got it all! Foster's Freeze makes me feel like a little kid on the road, having adventures with my family all over again. The best restaurant and staff on the lake. I stop often for food or a milk shake and I'm never disappointed. There's a lady who works up front who is always smiling, very quick at her job, and always makes us feel welcome. She never stops moving as long as we are there. My husband and I always stop here between Sacramento and Fort Bragg. They offer great food and nice, clean, easily accessible restrooms. The staff is friendly, and the food is yummy. We started stopping by since the late 1980s, and we've sampled just about everything on the menu at one time or another. Their corn dogs are fantastic, and their ice cream treats are addictive. Nice, big, juicy burgers and thick, creamy milkshakes. On summer afternoons, the lines can be long. They're worth the wait. On numerous occasions we've gone in to get dinner 15-20 minutes before closing, waited in line for several minutes, and then been told once we get to the front that they "aren't making food anymore". If you want to quit making food at 8 instead of 8:30, close the damn restaurant at 8 instead of standing there and watching customers waiting in line only to turn them away.
