My first frosters freeze experience was a good one thanks to the delicious food and fun vibes. We ordered; fish and chips, a cheeseburger, and some ice cream of course. Everything was hot and fresh. Almost perfectly cooked, lots a flavor too which I appreciated. You can't go wrong with any of their ice cream. I have to give a shoutout to who I believe was the owner. A sweet older Asian lady. She was so welcoming and friendly. She took our order and helped prepare the food. I enjoyed talking to her. The restaurant it'self has fun decor -- I love the antiques inside and the car! Such a fun photo op opportunity. There were also fake fruits for kids to play with. My toddler had a blast playing with them. I think they can improve on cleaning up the place and getting rid of the flies. I hate when flies are near my food . It's uncomfortable when they're inside a restaurant. read more

I really wanted to love Fosters Freeze and as a frequent visitor to Napa, finally decided to stop in for some ice cream one night. It's a one and done place for me, which is sad, because the vintage vibe is charming (but the ice cream was awful). First, there's a customer-unfriendly sign that greets you at the register: you have to pay cash or there is an oddly specific 3.84% charge on all credit card transactions. This is listed as a "convenience fee," which rubs me the wrong way all around. Convenient for whom? We placed orders for two ice cream sundaes and waited. And waited. And waited. They forgot about our order! Finally we got our ice cream and it was disappointing. The ice cream had an odd color, flavor, and texture, and the hot fudge was right out of a can. The toppings (nuts and whipped cream) were too sparse, and the portion was crazy small considering the price. Now I'm sorry, but two ice creams shouldn't cost close to $15. I can't imagine coming here with a bunch of kids, it's not family-friendly pricing at all! The only thing I liked about Fosters Freeze is the interior. It looks like a 1980s ice cream parlor that has been frozen in time. Think dark red leather booths, a checkerboard floor, and mismatched stained glass light fixtures. Let's start out with the positive; the staff is very friendly. That's just about where the positivity ends. My husband and I hadn't been to fosters in a long time so we decided to try it out again. He ordered the boss burger (standard burger +bacon and onion rings) and I ordered the old fashion burger no cheese. My husband's was abundantly greasy to were the bun was shining with the grease. My old fashion burger was sopping with sauce and the "juice" from the burger. The meat it self you can tell it was the preformed (freezer burned) patty's with just a hint of lettuce and too much soft on the bad side of ripe tomatoes. The fries the meals came with are the frozen thick crinkle cut fries you can get from any supermarket just very heavily salted. The only thing that can get me to come here again is the ice-cream which fails to disappoint. read more

Swung by this location, it isn't our first time though.. Had to order chicken sandwich and fries WITHOUT salt! I have issues with salt being added to the fries.. (didn't eat the chicken sandwich).. I made it clear should be without salt although I am suspicious about it as I don't think fast food chains will take some time to change where they cool their fries.. We arrived at 10:19pm last night with 40+m to spare. We were going to order to go since we are visiting from out of town. There were 4 different families sitting inside eating and no line at the counter. We began to give our order and the young guy with the glasses taking it called his manager (I'm assuming) because we had a custom burger. (No tomatoes or onions- we are allergic to onions and can't eat tomatoes). The older Asian lady came back SO ANGRY and upset. Said WRITE IT DOWN!!!! Then we asked what came on the chili dog and she pointed to the menu and said YOU GUYS COME IN WHEN WE ARE ABOUT TO CLOSE AND HAVE ALL THESE QUESTIONS. WE ARE CLOSING!!!!!! My go to here is also simple, vanilla cone and large fries. The combo together cannot be beat. Customer service usually consists of the owners and high schoolers. Fast orders. A lot of people forget about this gem. Not to mention one day after work I googled what time the place would close and it said it was permanently closed. Not only is this one of the cleanest locations of Fosters Freeze you will ever experience, it's only one of a handful of Fosters Freeze locations that has both full indoor dining room completely themed to a retro fifties car hop motif, but an open-air outdoor patio right off to the side of the restaurant perfect for al fresco dining! Centrally located off of West Imola Avenue across the street from the River Park Shopping Center in Napa, I have been to this Fosters Freeze location many times during my trips to wine country, which includes many times following dinner in nearby downtown Napa. My most recent trip to Fosters Freeze was the most fun because it was still daylight out despite a day of enjoying myself with wine and friends along the St. Helena Highway in the Napa Valley. Driving myself home I thought I'd stop by for a little pick me up at Fosters Freeze since I knew it was so easy to get there from the West Imola Ave exit from Highway 29. Under our current situation, everything is safeguarded at Fosters Freeze, as they recently allowed for indoor dining at a significantly reduced capacity. So certain areas such as most of their counter seating and every other booth is cordoned off, not that it matters as the time of day I went in there, there weren't any in-person diners to speak of. The menu at Fosters Freeze, as with many locations can be all over the map, with multiple sections and various images stretched above one end of the counter to the other end. With sections named Value Menu, and I use the term loosely "Local Favorites," the food served at Foster Freeze definitely run the gamut from burgers to chicken sandwiches to hot dogs. Since I already had lunch for the day and was looking for a quick pick me up to get me on my way and I thought a festive milkshake would suffice, but then I see in their window a "special" item on their menu and the Strawberry Cheesecake Twister was calling my name! At $7.99 for a medium size drink, and an additional 50 cents if you want to add chocolate to your drink, this isn't the most affordable drink you've ever had but it was one of the best tasting shake/ sundae combination drinks I've had in quite some time. The drink is basically ice cream mixed with cheesecake bites, strawberry and their signature hardened chocolate syrup and they gave you a large spoon to scoop your meal and I was in heaven. I literally thought to myself "Oh man that's good" as I managed to savor each bite while I drive myself home. Since I was there, I decided to get two items to enjoy for lunch a day later, their Fish Fillet sandwich and their Onion Rings. My total bill was almost $23 which wasn't super affordable as the Fish Burger was almost $9 on its own. When I returned home, I did refrigerate the sandwich and onion rings, and honestly even when heated up a day later, my meal wasn't as good as it could be. I am going to chalk it up to the sandwich and onion rings not dating well a day after being made, but I will also chalk it up to Fosters Freeze not realty specializes in fish burgers, as I have never had a burger that led me astray at any Fosters Freeze franchise that I have personally visited. And this one at least in terms of locations that I have been to, is the top of the top! From great and friendly service to the cleanliness of the interior of this restaurant to the fun specials on their menu, you can't go wrong with an order at this location of Fosters Freeze especially with soft serve ice cream as good as it is served in all forms here. read more

What happened to this place??? I used to come here all the time as a kid with my family. My favorite thing ever was the chocolate dipped soft serve cones! After yesterday I will never be back again. I hadn't been here in years but was in the area and decided to come in for a small ice cream cone. When I walked in there were two women mopping the floors which were covered in mud, it was around 8pm so I asked if they were closing(usually you wait until costumers are gone) but she said that they were still open. I walk to the register and wait but they had to be the only people working because there was no one to help me. The woman says I'll be right with you and continues to mop the floor for about 5 more minutes lol mind you I only wanted an ice cream cone. Not a huge deal but usually I would assume costumers are a priority and cleaning up is something you should do on down time. Anyway she finally comes up to help me after the other woman cleaning pretty much tells her she'll take over and that she should go take my order. I'm a little annoyed but I order my ice cream anyway and pay. Can you believe this woman goes straight for my ice cream cone and starts putting the soft serve in it without WASHING OR SANITIZING her hands at all!!! She knows I just watched her clean the dirty floor with an old mop and has the audacity to start preparing my ice cream with filthy hands. Fosters Freeze is like Dairy Queen's weird cousin. The menu is pretty much the same, but with a slightly bootleg-y feel to the names of the items. You want a Blizzard? Well, how about a Twister instead. That sot of thing. You can get parfaits, freezes, sundaes, milkshakes, cones of the dipped and not dipped variety -- it's all familiar if slightly off. Most of the Fosters Freezes that I've been to are a walk up window, or minimal seating with a nothing to write home about (or Yelp about?) dining room. The Napa location stands out with a large dining room and retro 50's vibe. It's kitschy, but it fits with the food. The burgers are of the, yeah, that's a burger, variety - you're not getting a fancy burger here, but they're just fine. They still rock the crinkle cuts for the fries, you can get hot dogs, corn dogs, patty melts, etc. - it's a pretty extensive (if somewhat average quality) menu. Went today and actually fell flat on my face. The curb was very small and didn't see it. A nice man and my husband helped me up. We parked in handicap the curb should have been painted so I could see the small step up. No one came to check what was going on. Right now my mouth is numb.
