Classic American diner. Each Black Bear diner has its own special theme. I was surprise there was quite a few people in the restaurant. I am glad they finally changed up their menu away from the classical newspaper menu. The food was ok. I did purchase the prime rib. It may not have been the best prime rib, but you can't bet the price. read more

Hubby and I love our local BB Diner! We've never had a bad meal here and it's affordable. Hubby ALWAYS orders their Rueben Sandwich. It's perfectly grilled with a lot of pastrami and ooey gooey melted cheese. I'm a big fan of the Patty Melt, but I gambled on the Pot Roast Melt today? It was scrumptious with a good amount of Roasted Chuck that was tender and juicy. I especially loved the Horseradish Sauce! Served with hot Au Jus for dipping it was amazing. The service is always great especially if Michelle is your server. She's fun, sweet and engaging. We went about 3:00 pm to avoid the busy dinner rush. My tip of the day. Lol. If you've never been here, it's pretty much reminiscent of a Cracker Barrel, except with a lot of wooden carved bear sculptures. It's a chain restaurant thats been around for about 30 years. We kept our menu choices pretty simple with an egg white scramble with everything on the side and a fried chicken dinner. The fried chicken seemed to me like it was made offsite and shipped here and it was very reminiscent of those fried chicken banquet TV dinners, except a little better. It's supposedly breaded and fried on site, but I beg to differ so I'll leave that for you to decide (the fried fish I had days earlier was similar). The egg white scramble and all the sides were definitely very good so no complaint there. They serve breakfast all day long and you get a big white fluffy biscuit to go with it. It's hard to find an inexpensive meal here in Napa, but they have the right formula working for them with decent food at a very budget friendly price. The bill for two including tip without drinks or dessert was right at 50 bucks. It's a place I'd return to and explore something else on the menu. Great service as well. Our server was very sweet, she was extremely busy but still tried her best to get bk to us at a decent time. My daughter loved her chicken & waffles. I wasn't feeling my salmon dish with green beans. i usually really enjoy coming to any black bear diner but the experience at this location was terrible! i came with my boyfriend and niece, my niece wanted a chicken tender kids meal but with kraft mac n cheese instead of fries, the server was a bit rude and said it cant be switched since its a meal but can just add on a side of it. i say yes. then i order my scramble with a white cheddar mac instead of potatoes. when the food comes, my plate has a kraft mac n cheese instead of white cheddar which i didnt mind, but then we waited 15 more minutes for the other kids kraft but they brought a white cheddar for hers!! then not even 5 minutes after they brought the second mac n cheese, the server threw the bill onto the table and said "have a good day" and ran away. upon looking at the check, we got charged for 2 white cheddars read more

Ordered some food for pickup and I was treated like royalty. They really laid out the red carpet for me. Priscilla started it off with the great customer service during my order over the phone. Then the manager Marcos topped it all off. I asked him to take a picture of me and the Black Bear mascot because I've been eating the food for years and I've never seen their mascot in person. I've been debating on putting a review. I was there in march and when I got inside I wasn't greeted I was just stared at. When I was speaking to Reeize one of the cooks I was still looked at dirty and the cook himself. Reeize also likes to ghost woman after a pregnancy scare good thing it was negative. Huckleberry lemonade 5/5 This was my first time trying huckleberry lemonade & it was refreshing & delicious! I highly recommend it. It has the perfect amount of sweet and tartiness from the lemon & huckleberry. if you haven't had huckleberry before, tastes like a sweeter blueberry. Additionally you get an additional free refill so pretty worth getting. 2 biscuits & gravy 5/5 The portion for this item is HUGE. The biscuit I had were more on the fluffier side & they put a gracious amount of gravy on top of the biscuits. Taste wise, satisfying if you're craving biscuits & gravy. Cob Crispy Chicken Cob Salad 5/5 I love getting their Cob Salad & recommend getting it. I have been very fond of Black Bear for many years. However tonight I had an unfortunite experience. We arrived at 730 on a Saturday night and were greeted at the door and escorted to our seats. While en route the waitress asked us what we would like to drink. I would like to be seated before ordering. At the table we were given torn menus and sat in a booth with torn seats, they were sticky too. We both ordered fried chicken and were told "we don't have it". "We haven't had any since the recall, and it was too much trouble ordering it." This is a menu item... There was a smell in the air the equivelent of a nursing home, stale and not fresh. We decided not to stay since we had come spefically for the fried chicken, and as we going I noticed that our waitress was sitting at the counter talking away and not paying attention to anything but the person next to her. PLEASE I love the concept and decor of the restaurant. Usually the service and food is very good, and it is very clean. Please keep up the good work and don't let things slide. Was seated with my daughter. They asked if we'd like drinks we order coffee and water. Delivered the drinks. No creamers were delivered. Thought maybe they don't do that here looked around and other tables had creamer. Then after we already had drinks they sat a family down next to us. They ordered drinks they brought coffees w creamers. Meanwhile we've been sitting over here starving. We've resorted To eating the jam packets. Then they come back and start taking the families order. They sat that family before taking our order, took drink orders before taking our order and now have proceeded to take their full food order before even getting some damn creamer to us. The family spoke the same language as the waitress and were the same color so it seems we weren't a priority at that point. I got the country fried steak with the country potatoes, and over easy eggs with the biscuits. this is my first time trying blackbear, and I disapprove only because I am a potato queen and these potatoes were not cooked all the way the over easy was a little runny. The steak was actually pretty good the biscuits. I don't understand why they were so freaking big. There's no way I'm gonna eat too too fluffy for me. The taste wasn't bad. We usually eat here whenever we say at Vino Bello. We've enjoyed the food and want to particularly give a thumbs up to a wonderful server named Michele with the green glasses. She is a professional in her position and should probably be promoted to train others to be like her. She has great customer service skills and a gem. Lastly and more importantly the ceiling panels definitely need to be replaced. It is dirty and unclean. It affects the proper enjoyment of the food and the environment. We went to Napa BB Diner specifically for the All you can eat Pollock fish fry. Waitress gladly accepted our two orders but soon returned explaining they were out of Pollock and if Cod would be acceptable. We agreed. After finishing the three pieces of Cod, we wanted another helping of ALL YOU CAN EAT but were told they were running low on Cod and would not provide any more fish but offer a dessert choosing in exchange per Manager instructions. In my opinion, this dirty deed should have been delivered by the Manager. We were charged full price $16.99 for the All you can eat, but essentially received the Cod dinner which cost less. 11/1/2020 Quarantine Day 230 I haven't been to a Black Bear Diner in a few years and we decided to go here for brunch before heading back to San Francisco. The restaurant has it's own parking lot which wasn't too full when we got there. BUT we were definitely deceived because when we got inside there was a lot of people. The hostess told us it would be a 20 minute wait which we were okay with since we weren't in any rush. We gave her a phone number to contact us when our table was ready. 20 minutes later... We come back and the hostess seated us at a table inside the restaurant. She leaves and our waiter comes with two newspaper menus and two cups of water. There's a lot of things to choose from but we decided on these: 1. The GRIZZ (his) 2. Joe's Hobo Omelette (mine) 3. Sweet Cream Pancakes (his) I do not exaggerate when I type this: THE FOOD TOOK FOREVER. Not only did we have to wait 20 minutes just to be seated, we had to wait 15 minutes for the waiter to come take our order AND an additional 30 minutes for the food to arrive. What also sucked was that no one checked up on us. I also noticed that the staff prioritizes takeout orders more than in-house orders because while we were waiting, I saw that there were at least 30 takeout pickups. My boyfriend was hangrier than me said he was sorry he picked this place, but of course we couldn't have known how the service was. Then I asked a waitress if she could check on the status of our food and she said "No, I can't do that, only your waiter can do that". Well geeze, thanks??? I guess our waiter saw us asking so he came over to us and told us he was very sorry and that our food would be coming soon. Unfortunately, soon was the equivalent of waiting another 10 minutes. When he brought our plates of food over, he apologized again and then my boyfriend and I proceeded to FINALLY eat. Just a warning, the portions are pretty big! I brought half of my plate home because I could not finish it all. I did not get a chance to nibble on some of my boyfriend's food since Mr.Hangry inhaled everything haha. For my plate, I liked that the potatoes were not too greasy, the omelette was filled with veggies, meat and cheese. The pancakes were fluffy and yummy. Overall, the two stars are for the waiter's genuine apology and another for the food in satisfying our hunger. Most likely I will not be back due to the poor service and lack of attention. read more

I have never in my life received the most perfect service. After the busy holiday we wanted to go out, eat and just relax. We drove from Fairfield just to try a new place and I think this might just be our new favorite black bear diner. They were busy and packed but didn't have a lot of wait time and it was pretty easy to find parking. The room was filled with families but the noise was not too loud. Michelle was our waiter and OH MY GOD was she an Angel sent from heaven. She made suggestions when we were trying to order for our picky kids to make it budget friendly. Even with the extras she remembered everything without a note pad. She brought drinks out first. All out meals came out together. The food is the same as other black bear diners but this time it was so much more flavorful. *Chefs kiss. Before we could ask for extra napkins or refills Michelle was dripping off what we needed. First time visiting black bear diner. Very cute inside. Our server Michael was very friendly, very attentive, and very helpful. I had the California omelette that was super tasty. Lots of fresh grilled mushrooms and avocado. My husband had the two eggs with wonderful, red potatoes, and mix peppers and onions, a huge slice of tender, ham and toast. The food tasted okay though each persons plate came out 10minutes apart so it ruined our experience of a family dinner. I try to be pretty understanding when it comes to food, but this was just not good, sorry! I ordered the eggs benedict, which is my go-to for most American-style diners. The yolk was completely cooked through (see photos), like a hard boiled egg. I don't poach a lot of eggs but I'm reasonably sure I can poach a better egg with some hot water in a Ziploc bag. The hash browns were also barely cooked and not at all crispy. At some points I felt like I was eating raw shredded potato. Lastly, they put so much sweetener in the sweet tea that when they brought it to us, there was two distinct layers in the glass (see photos). The server we had was nice, but seemed in a rush. I don't expect much from a chain diner, but this was beyond disappointing. I don't think any of us were satisfied with our experience here :( read more

The staff is friendly, but our waiter, Mike, was exceptionally personable. He mentioned that he's been working at the Napa location for 14 years. As I write this review, I hope his manager recognizes him as a valued employee. Aside from the great service, Corporate should take the time to clean the dust-ridden ceiling and curtains. The thought of dirt falling onto our meals is horrifying! It becomes a hygiene issue that the Health Department would be very concerned about. However, after speaking to the manager on duty and being served by Jasmine I raised it to three stars. After completely throwing in the towel this year for Thanksgiving, we decided we needed to pursue at least a shred of tradition and found ourselves in the packed waiting area of Black Bear Diner in Napa. I will say that if you're ever feeling guilty about not going all-out on the holidays, know that you're in extremely good company. I've never seen a diner more crowded than it was on Thanksgiving 2018. Despite a chaotic level of plate-spinning and order-taking, the staff at BB were incredibly pleasant and accommodating during our visit. We went with a couple of special holiday menu items - the prime rib and the turkey, and both were (honest to god) about as good as what I would have pulled off after an entire day of cooking. It was a special kind of luxury to be completely done with the holiday just by walking back out to the parking lot. Thanks to the staff of this humble chain diner for giving us a stress-free and memorable holiday. We'd absolutely return in the future for the usual burger or omelette - Black Bear will continue to be a go-to when we're looking for comfort food in Napa! read more
