It's very cute and very clean, and doesn't seem like a thrift shop at all. The young woman working there was friendly and helpful. I saw lots of little things I wanted to buy, like the tiniest Labubu I've ever seen, but didn't end up purchasing anything. Most of the clothes and accessories for females seemed targeted toward young people, but I'm glad I stopped in and checked out all of their cute loot. Be sure to bring change for the metered parking or plan to use your credit card.

She bought a flowered skirt that looked like 1968, but new. The sales girls were super friendly and encouraging, and there were plenty of unusual things for me to look at while she shopped. I learned about Smiskis figures, for instance. They have a bunch for trading only, and they also sell several other collectible figures. Not my thing, but interesting. They mainly sell vintage and modern secondhand clothes, bags, and shoes for women and men, but they also have new pottery from a designer called Familiar. The store is spacious and carefully curated. There is no thrift shop smell and it looks more like a cute boutique than a secondhand store. You can sell your clothes there, too. There are two floors of women's clothes and a separate men's shop across a little courtyard in the back. Most of the customers when I was there were young adults of both sexes. The store was busy on a Saturday in the late afternoon. Fortunately, they have a dedicated parking lot behind the shop with plenty of spaces. The staff welcomed me immediately when I walked in. I was interested in looking at purses and they had quite a few vintage and newer ones from designers like Coach, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, and Dooney & Bourke. I didn't buy any, but enjoyed checking out what they had to offer. I didn't pay too much attention to the clothes, except to notice that women's pant sizes on the second floor only seemed to go up to size 11/12. If they had bigger sizes, I didn't see them. Overall, I was impressed with Black and Brown and would like to go back.

I wandered around for a good hour and a half because I kept finding new things to look at. Not once did Liz pressure me or think it was weird that I was just doing laps around the store looking at everything haha; she was happy to answer all my questions and was super knowledgeable about all the items. I absolutely love everything I purchased and I can't wait to go back and find more treasures. You can browse in here forever, and it's all jammed so tightly together, There are a lot of vintage toys in here, which I think attracts a lot of people of all ages! I saw plenty of people talking to the guy working here, about prices and other information. This is definitely the most popular place on Niles Boulevard!!!

This is an update to my original five star rating from almost 20 years ago. The Shop was a…read morewonderful local gem back then, but now, not so much. In the past year - since the new manager took over - The Shop has totally changed. Prices have gone way up, and the new manager is touting stuff like a whole "St. John's Knits" section which I really don't care about. I also notice that if I come in wearing my sweats & no makeup the manager doesn't say boo to me, but if I come in dressed to the nines then the manager is is super friendly, which I find shallow. She also has a weird policy on "Sales"; in the past, annual end-of-season sales were always promoted ahead of time. But the new manager insists on "flash sales" that aren't advertised, so you just have to stumble upon them by chance. All of this adds up to a poor shopping experience, so I rarely shop there now and I never donate anymore. Bring back the old manager, Robbie; she was wonderful, as are the employees who work there. In fact, the employees (outside of the current mgr) are the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1.

If you like vintage smalls, this is the place for you. They have lots of costume and sterling silver jewelry, glassware, ceramics, linens, toys, and just random treasures. The shop is so packed I had to go around twice to make sure I didn't miss anything. The two ladies working there this afternoon were friendly and helpful. They cheerfully unlocked the glass cabinets when I wanted to see something and there was never any pressure to buy. I learned the shop has been there for 44 years. I really wanted to support this small local business, so I bought a green Buddha statue for a shelf at home that needed refreshing. I'm happy with my purchase and I hope this shop is around for many more years.

You can tell that they are careful about what they decide to put out on the floor. The items were all in good condition and contemporary. Everything was priced to sell and I snagged some good deals on some pots for my plants. I was looking for a single teacup but they didn't have any on the floor. The staff were really friendly and they offered to check in the back for me. They even joined me in my hunt around the store. Lovely ladies. I will be returning.

The prices are beyond great if you love vintage clothing and know fabrics. I may have found my favorite dress of all time here for a whopping $14 (because it's a two piece set of decorative vintage fabric) it was in the premium section and the volunteers were adorable making sure I knew why it was priced this way. (I couldn't afford a yard of this fabric retail I'm giddy about a vintage two piece set that I can customize). To then discover that the proceeds go to support women's scholarships was the ultimate bonus! My grand total for everything was $54 and I happily gave my change to the donation bucket by the register. If you are in the area and love unique vintage items this is a must explore. I had to resist the urge to buy several of the tea cup collections. I'm a sucker for vintage tea sets and they have several that are stunning! Great shop, fantastic volunteers who are donating their time to support a wonderful cause.

There is something for everyone, you just have to really really look. It's a small space but crammed with precious stock. Chris the owner was so sweet and fun! Full of advice and knowledge about small businesses and stories about fashion pieces. This is a lady I could hang with! We would have so much fun! She was even trying to give me a discount and I told her; no need as small businesses suffer enough. I was just grateful that she offered. To me the experience and fun I had was well worth every penny. She was super happy and grateful that I purchased from her shop. I will be back to visit Chris and find more treasure pieces!
