What an unexpected treasure! Met some local friends here for brunch and had awesome fish tacos with yucca fries, and shared the apple/blueberry/Brie quesadilla. The food was excellent; service was very attentive (water glasses refilled before empty); live music in the background was at the right volume to listen but yet not impair conversation; and the space was both rustic and warm. What a great spot in town. Good food, great service, and a nice view of the river. I recommend sitting outside on the deck if possible. I came here for brunch on a Sunday and had the calamari as an appetizer and pork belly sandwich for my meal. The service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. I noticed that before ordering, she asked if anyone had any food allergies, which was good because someone in our group had a peanut allergy. I admire that they take food allergies seriously. We are new to the area and decided to try this place out. We ordered the crispy chicken family dinner. The chicken was saturated in oil, overly salty and one piece I had was absolutely rotten. It's OK. It's an attempt at eclectic but it falls short. Some highlights are: Mac and Cheese, Burgers, Bar/Lounge upstairs. Some lows are: Asian slaw sandwich, service and temperature while dining. This was my first visit to the Foundry, and my expectations were high based on the many positive reviews, the attractive decor, and the cordial welcome my group of three (my partner, a guest, and me) received at a recent lunch. The problem was the food! It was a warm day (we were seated outside, overlooking a lovely brook) and a light lunch of hummus and tabouli, olive date salad and flatbread sounded perfect. I can candidly say that the hummus and tabouli were the worst I have ever eaten. I have eaten both dishes out many times, and frequently make them in my own kitchen, so I have a good idea of what they should taste like. The hummus had the taste and texture of library paste. I could taste no tahini, lemon, garlic, or even chickpea in the mixture. The tabouli had an unpleasant taste, perhaps too much dried mint, and bore no resemblance to the fresh parsley-based salad that it should be, seasoned with lemon juice and olive oil. The date-olive salad was just wrong, and the flatbread, a commercial naan, tasted right out of the package, not even heated. Given that the reason for this visit was a celebration meal for our guest, I didn't want to risk making it unpleasant by sending my meal back, so I played with my food and ate what I could. Our guest had ordered a special, a butternut squash soup, but found it too sweet, and left about half. Her Reuben did, however, look delicious. My partner had ordered another special, a salmon rollup, which was OK, but nothing special. The fries, however, were delicious, and I kept stealing them because I was hungry. I guess if you know what to order you can have a pleasant meal, and the ambiance is charming, but for me, it's the food that determines whether I return, and in this case, I'm taking a pass. read more

We were in the area for a Castle Hills Farm Corn Maze- which was aMAZEing!- and found this on yelp. We ordered nachos, they were huge, delicious and perfectly cheesy. This restaurant is located inside a beautiful old New England style building. Positioned right alongside a river and waterfall, there is no shortage of charm both inside and out. The young man who greeted us and sat us was also waiting and bar tending most likely due to a combination of covid and the fact it was a slow night during a snow storm. Service was very attentive and helpful with any and all questions regarding the menu. My one grievance was that both the first drink and appetizer I ordered could not be ordered because they were out of various ingredients. This may be a minor hiccup but on a slow night I was surprised to see any items unavailable. We got the Ethiopian wings which were sweet, lightly sauced and cooked to perfection. Both drinks we ordered were delicious and made very well. We did not stay for dinner but the menu was very enticing and if I am back in Connecticut I would love to visit again to further explore the menu. read more

Once again, we had a fabulous meal! Since it was New Year's Eve, they had a 4 course prix-fix menu with some delicious and different offerings. I had the Hamachi Ceviche which was so fresh and tasty- lots of clean favors of lime, cilantro and avocado to compliment, but not overwhelm the fish. My husband had the pork belly and we both practically licked our plates. This course was followed by a salad course; I had the Mediterranean Salad which had hummus, olives, feta - again delicious; my husband had the Mixed salad full of fresh veggies. For the main course I had the Duck breast which was cooked to perfection with fingerling potatoes and carrots. My husband had the Beef Tenderloin which came out a perfect medium with mashed potatoes - he said it was one of the best meals he has ever had! The dessert menu came out and we 'forced' ourselves to choose - I had the pumpkin tart which was lightly brûléed and my husband had the Pretzel flourless chocolate cake - both lovely endings to our meal. I need to begin with...if there was a 10 star option, that would have been our choice!! I got married at The Foundry Saturday night and every single moment of the process was absolute perfection. We had the ceremony and dinner in the dining room upstairs. It all began with the event coordinator, Patty. From our first meeting with Patty, every single request (whether it was about COVID precautions, to the timing of the event, the access to the room, the layout of the room the menu choices, all were met without a moments hesitation and a resounding YES. We had the whole room which is gorgeous and rustic and cozy and beautiful. It allowed for a full ceremony, walk down the aisle, cocktail hour space and a separate area for all our guests to sit down and eat. On the day of our wedding, we were allowed into the room in the morning to set up a few personal touches and although the staff were there and setting up they immediately began to help and cater to our every whim. We cannot say enough about the staff. Patty handed us off to Lauren, our event point person. Lauren was warm and so helpful and almost invisible while working the entire time to keep the whole evening moving smoothly and seamlessly. Then there was Emily- at our beck and call and yet- we never had to ask for a single thing because she met all of our needs before we knew we needed them met. And Shayne- a world class bartender. I never went to the bar and yet somehow, my glass, nor any of my guests' glasses were ever empty. The level of professionalism, courtesy and kindness was above reproach by each and every one of the team! Now- let's talk about the food. It was phenomenal. All of it was gorgeous, plentiful and cooked precisely to order. From the passed appetizers, (do yourselves a lifechanging favor and order the short rib wontons...to DIE FOR), to the charcuterie board, to the chicken satay skewers to the calamari, one was better than the next. Now onto the entrees, OMG! The wild mushroom risotto was 5 star restaurant quality and decadent. The skirt steaks were prepared to each guests preferred temperature and the salmon was spectacular. We had our own wedding cake but that did not take anything away from the perfect mini cheesecakes. My father said several times that he was sad he lives in NJ because The Foundry would be his new favorite spot! We spent many weeks trying to plan a COVID safe wedding that still met all of our hopes and dreams and I cannot say it enough ways- My husband and I had the most perfect wedding all thanks to The Foundry team. New owners, food is great but they raised the pricing to be "upscale" and just priced themselves out of often repeat customers. The food is not worth the raised pricing. I understand why it is half empty on a Friday evening. If they lowered the dinner meal pricing by $5 they would have more customers and the would spend that money on drinks. Also, ordered a cocktail. Had to send it back. 70% ice, 15% vodka, 10% air, 5% mixer. Just terrible. One of the top worst mixed drinks I've had and that drink was on their cocktail menu. You would think they know how to make it properly? Anyone can pour a beer from a tap but make a cocktail? Figs has terrible service compared to this place but they have won my business for now. read more

Hosted my best friends engagement party here about a week ago. Kate the owner as well as the chefs/managers were extremely attentive and responsive while trying to plan. They set us up in the cutest little private room in the back. Joey was our waiter and was amazing. I sat at the bar and had a few drinks before everyone arrived, the bartender was just as great. On arrival was told (with condescending attitude) that outside tables are not available for reservations and it will be 1hr+ if we want to wait. Tried to explain that's what we requested, but finally ate inside. 20+ minutes to receive drinks, was told bar was "backed up". Food was good, but overall a disappointing experience. Checking in - the fall menu has a few great short rib options - short rib dumplings as an appetizer - large enough to be an entree and Korean short ribs braised and fried served with sticky rice, bok choy, kimchi, and scallions. A great combination of flavors and textures, hot, sweet and bland, firm and soft. The yucca fries with aioli dip are still a winner (especially with a $2 price) as is the inside out burger. My husband and I stopped here on our way to visit family. The building is eclectically decorated and it was a little hard to tell where parking was but not that bad. Great beer selection. My husband had the inside out burger and was pleased but stated "it's a burger." I had the special of Summer Surf and Turf. It was good, but some parts of it just a little cold. Beautiful presentation and nice that you can choose from a bunch of great garnishes and fruits BUT the drink itself was watered down and disappointing. Their Sunday brunch offers $3 cocktail specials with entrees and a great selection. I have been to the Foundry many times and have yet to have a bad meal or experience there. Their Eggs and Bacon appetizer is by far the best I have ever tried. I also enjoy their hummus appetizer while my boyfriend loves the Bleu Skins! The nachos are a generous helping and absolutely delicious. The entrees are incredible as well! Whether going for the roasted chicken, short rib, salads, vegetarian chili or sourdough grilled cheese you will NOT be disappointed. Pros and cons...great atmosphere, especially in the warm weather for outdoor seating...however, as a Newtown resident we prefer Figs, Nostranos or Red Rooster for the wonderful cuisine and value. We have been here 4 times in the last year and each time hoping we'll have a better experience than the last. Foundry skimps on the protein in each dish we've tried, especially when it comes to steak and ahi tuna. Don't expect to go home with leftovers either. The children's menu can use some improvement as well. read more

Nice place - wonderful ambiance of some kind of old industrial space turned into a restaurant. Limited menu. Someone recommended the fish tacos so I tried them and they were good. Service is nice - I see some complaints about that in some of these reviews and I think they are from people who are not used to non-intrusive servers. Frankly, I'm annoyed by servers who just come over and interrupt our conversation. The one we had was nice, stopped near us so if we wanted to we could ask for something but otherwise didn't bother us. I prefer this model. Or, maybe they were understaffed that day. No rushing us either - we had a very leisurely lunch for four that lasted one and a half + hours and there was no pressure to turn over the table from the staff. My companions had salads and a burger, and everyone was happy with it. Overall, great setting, good food, a little pricey but definitely worth a visit. read more
