Absolutely delicious! My husband, mother and I dined here last weekend and we were so happy that we did. The food was spectacular. The menu, which is like a traditional tavern menu but taken up a notch, features unique finds like pretzel crusted tuna and chicken satay (I highly recommend both!). Everything that we ordered was absolutely delicious - even the dessert (house made cheese cake, brownie Sunday and bread pudding....). Not Celiac Friendly. I recently ate here with my family. We chose the Foundry specifically because it was advertised that they had a gluten free menu and dedicated allergen free prep area. This is important for me because I have Celiac (gluten allergy). When we arrived the waitress informed me that they no longer had a gluten free menu but could adjust many menu items to accommodate my allergy. I was disappointed but ordered anyway, hoping they would not get any gluten in my order. We waited a while for our food, but when it arrived everyone at our table seemed to enjoy their entree. I had the Chicken Curry. It came with a quails egg on top, which was cold and didn't go with the flavors in the curry. I felt sick after my meal, indicating to me that it was not gluten free as they had said it was. Other negatives: It is very dark in the restaurant, so dark we had to hold up the candle to the menu to read it! It was also pretty noisy in there. Also the waitress brought out gluten free bread for me before the meal, which is a thoughtful idea, but the bread was just a store-bought plain GF hamburger bun that was toasted, Yuk! read more

Came on a night when it was not crowded so we were given the choice of inside or outside. We tried inside which was empty except for one other couple. We then discovered the smell of cleaning solvent in the inside room. We sat outside. My wife ordered the short ribs and sent them back as being overlooked. The restaurant was kind enough to take off our bill. As part of our meal we added the truffle fries which had a price of $5.00 on the menu. Turns out that was only if your dish came with fries. If it did not, the charge was $8.00 even though it does not say so anywhere on the menu. When I questioned the amount on the bill, I was told our waitress was a trainee and that she had erred when she verified at the time of ordering that the price of the fries was $5.00. The fries are cooked in duck fat so the taste is different. Be careful when you order. read more

Foundry has the unique ability to offer an extremely diverse menu and it all tastes good. When you are having a fight with your partner about what type of food you want to eat, this place offers a good comprise. Their menu has items that pull from the inspiration of Asian, Italian, Mediterranean, American, and Mexican cuisines. My boyfriend and I vouch for the Ethiopian wings, fish tacos, and any of the sandwiches. The only thing in the menu I haven't liked was their shrimp and pasta. The ambiance is definitely in par with any upscale rustic hipster gastropub that I've seen. Overall, I'd definitely recommend. read more

I've been here for drinks a few times when I've been in town and was finally able to get there for brunch. The drink menu is great and the specialty drinks they have are awesome. For the food we started off with the calamari which was delicious. I can't stand when calamari is chewy or greasy, and this was definitely the opposite of both of those things. The I went with the fish tacos to eat. The fish was cooked really well and the yucca fries that came with is were excellent, have never tried anything like them before. My only complaint would be that there was maybe a little bit too much of the sauce on top of the fish tacos so they were pretty messy and the sauce hid some of the flavors of the fish. The service was great, really friendly and kept a good pace for our meal. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. I will definitely be back here to try more of the menu and would recommend you stop in if you are in the area. We were happy we chose this restaurant. We were driving from NYC to Boston and needed to eat on the way but didn't want a diner. The food was excellent. We ordered Reuben and a French Dip. I've been to Foundry 3 or 4 times. Last night went with some friends and was very disappointed. There were 8 of us. We all ordered entrees at the same time. All the meals except 1 came out together. My husband waited about 15 minutes for his meal of salmon. One of our other friends had gotten the same meal and his was out. We waited to eat and when we did my fish tacos were like warm at best. Had to ask 3 times for water. When the coffee came it was so strong and bitter even with a full serving of cream I could not drink it! I've loved this place before. This place was beautiful. Lots of ambiance. Not much light. My wife & I went to try it out. We were impressed as we ent in. We sat upstairs in a corner. Our server was nice. I felt a bit forgotten at times. It took a while to give our drink order and after ordering dinner we sat & waited for a while. My wife had the lobster fritters and they were very good. She then had a salad to go with it. I had the organic chicken Milanese. Breaded fried chicken with a nice big salad. The chicken was mostly breading and deep fried to a dark brown. Sides were to hard to eat. There was a sauce on a little bit of the chicken. For spending $70 we had a nice app 2 salads and some overdone KFC. read more

As I am an avid restaurant-goer in CT's finer food scene and I must say this place did not live up to its Yelp rating. Perhaps the management constructs most of the higher-rated reviews on here themselves as it was far from apparent to me on how such an evidently poorly-run place received a generous amount of stars on Yelp. To start with, the hostess who I had spoken to (blonde and short haired, sitting in a chair, her name was "Emily" I believe from what I had heard the other staffers calling her) was very rude and abrupt. Extremely fake smiles, no charm or charisma, I felt nearly unwelcomed to the restaurant and was considering going to Figs down the street instead. Was finally seated- the patio is aesthetically pleasing but does not mask for the awful tasting food I was later left to deal with. The menu options seemed alright, I ordered the lettuce wraps and how ATROCIOUS they were. The waitress was a sweet girl, was pleased with her service however when the manager came over to create small talk, she was extremely awkward and unappealing, wished she would go away the entire time. All in all, between an awful initial and an awful last impression, I will never revisit such an awful establishment again. As if poor customer service isn't bad enough, combine awful food on top of it and you get this place. Just...awful. read more

We were looking for a restaurant when we noticed the back deck overlooking a large stream. We love outdoor seating. Got to the Foundry around 6:00 and were seated immediately. We ordered the "Inside Out' burger which was a burger with homemade ketcup, bacon aioli, truffle cheese, and pickled shallots. I was hesitant at first of my choice. Well it was delicious! Had a nice Angry Orchard Crisp Apple with the meal. Our waitress was wonderful as was the rest of the waitstaff .I would definetly go back to the Foundry again! read more

Last night, server name on check was Christina. Worst service ever! Unusual for this place. Great ambiance on back deck, and food as good as usual. Busy but not overly so. Lots of what looked like summer help home from college. No interaction, working like a robot, I'm not sure she actually saw us, even as she wrote down our drink, then dinner order. Another server delivered the meal and although Christina was actively serving other tables near us she didn't say another word to us until she delivered the dessert menu. Our drink (mine was wine) glasses sat empty for the entire dinner without being asked if we would like a second -- can't recall the last time this happened anywhere. This place is amazing. I have not had a bad meal. Everything is very fresh, and tastes wonderful. My husband and I decided that it was going to be a restaurant just for the two of us. But we, at a moment of weakness brought our kids, a 4yr old and a 2yr old. Their food was just as delicious as ours. They got the Mac n' cheese and they devoured it. My husband and I got the fish tacos with the yucca fries(which are to die for). I have nothing but great things about this restaurant. The staff is great, ask if the kitchen needs to know about diet restrictions or allergies to anything that they would need to know about. They are great with staying on top of your drinks. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially when the weather is nice so you can sit outside by the water. Lovely view and very relaxing. read more

I have been a fan of the Foundry since it first opened. The atmosphere is relaxing and the food is great. My friends and I love to sit on the patio with a cocktail and just simply enjoy the river. But I must say, I really think it is the staff that makes this place what it is. Tonight I accidentally dropped my iPhone over the balcony and it landed among the bushes and tall grass that surrounds the river. It fell several feet and I thought I would never find it. Ralph, the manager, went down without hesitation and found it right away. His kindness was authentic and notable. We need more people like this in the world and more restaurants like the Foundry! :) read more

I came for brunch on Sunday and had the Benedict. I enjoyed my meal but wasn't blown away. I loved the live music though! I had one of the Bloody Mary's from their make-your-own bar and it was great! NYC quality food in Newton ! Soo happy to find this GEM!! We were a group of 6 on a Friday night w/ one toddler. Everyone enjoyed their meals (even the ppl who are usually a hard sell). Service was A++. We ordered the bacon and eggs, seafood special, Korean style short ribs, roasted chicken and 2 German sausage platters, all were delicious! For dessert the mango panna cotta and the sundae (must order the sundae!!). The bar area was bumping the dining room was more low key. It being a Saturday night and as we were arriving at 730 we expected a wait. The nice young ladies who greeted us told us it would be about 20 minutes and entered our number into a system that would text us when our table was ready. We were shown to a very nicely appointed upstairs bar with comfortable sofas for a drink while we awaited our table. The ambiance was so comfortable, and company was good, so we barely noticed that 35 minutes had passed when another very nice woman came to apologize for what she called an "unreasonable wait," and insisted upon comping our drinks and any appetizers we would like while we waited. We ordered some nachos and a Brussels Sprouts appetizer. The Sprouts came almost instantly and are a huge reason to go back to The Foundry all by themselves; so good! After they were polished off we were shown to our table. We let the waitress know that we had ordered nachos upstairs, but that if they weren't in the process of coming out it was perfectly fine because the menu held options that put mere nachos to shame. Once again a very nice young lady who identified herself as a manager came to our table, apologized profusely for the nacho mix-up and let us know that our entire check for the night would be taken care of. Needless to say we were all unbelievably impressed by the staff at The Foundry. Yes, the wait was a little longer than the hostess had said, but it was Saturday night and we didn't have a reservation. Yes, the (free) nachos never made it to our table, but we barely missed them and quite honestly were glad at that point that they wouldn't take up precious stomach space reserved for our main courses! The staff were all over-the-top nice, accommodating, and very aware of and attentive to the quality of our experience at their restaurant. Had our check not been comped we would have been more than happy to pay for what was also exceptional food. The braised short ribs, chicken curry bowl, organic roasted chicken and house chopped salad were all truly delicious and each was served with well thought-out and delectable sides. Atmosphere was warm - very nice. Don't really understand why bartender was wearing cut - off jeans. I liked the meatball appetizer and the brussel sprouts were served hot and tasty. I ord err ed the chopped salad with steak. Served on an ice cold plate - made me wonder just how far ahead if time the salad was prepared - salad had a bit of raw fish taste - can't think why.
