We came to Joyce's for my mother's birthday and we had an decent time. First, let's talk about the parking. the parking is terrible. Joyce's is located at the very end of a strip center, and it is very crowded. We ended up parking at the Whataburger and walking to the restaurant. though the parking lot was completely filled that gave us hopes that the food would be delicious. Upon entering the establishment, the host greeted us and seated us and that gave us a great indication that we were gonna have an enjoyable night. We sat down in our waiter begin to service us. We came during restaurant week so that was a plus. Our waiter gave us two menus, the main menu and the restaurant week menu. We all ordered from the restaurant week menu. Because you get more bang for your buck. For the first course, I ordered the gumbo, the second course I ordered the Mardi Gras pasta with a side Caesar salad and the third course I ordered the chocolate mousse. OK, let's get into it! The gumbo was burnt. Being as though I have Cajun roots I know what good gumbo taste like and I know what burnt gumbo taste like. The gumbo was burnt. I had to add hot sauce to add flavor to get rid of the burnt taste. The Mardi Gras pasta lacked flavor for me. It had no type of seasoning whatsoever, and the chocolate mousse was delicious. You can't go wrong with a chocolate mousse. Overall, it was a decent time at Joyce's, I will return to try something different maybe a steak or something. Out standing family restaurant... Seafood is a specialty along with some great Mexican Food.. Fish is always fresh and the Shrimps are great. The building is not too large but staff does a great job in serving and plenty of parking... Noise level is low and wait staff very nice... All the food came out hot. I had the calamari, a cup of crab bisque, and pecan crusted mahi mahi. The calamari was ok. The marinara sauce didn't have much taste to it. The calamari could have been coated better. The crab bisque was a darker color, and the soup was light. It could have a deeper flavor. The pecan crusted mahi-mahi was bland. The Chardonnay reduction sauce was mild, thus not adding much flavor to the fish. In addition, the fish was also not very fresh. Overall it was an ok experience at the restaurant. read more

Joyce's catered a birthday dinner for my husband recently and it was exceptional. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. I literally didn't have to do a thing! The servers were so attentive and tended to our guests every need. We worked with Francisco to get our menu set up and all of the details arranged and he was extremely helpful and easy to work with...truly a delight! Joyce's was a win! read more

Went for lunch with 2 friends. Very enjoyable and actually better food than we expected. One friend started with raw oysters and then had the tomato and blue cheese salad with shrimp. This was my neighborhood restaurant when I lived nearby. You could always count on good food, great service and a nice but not stuffy atmosphere. The background music is decent as well. It's a restaurant you can actually have a conversation in with a full service bar. I recommend the crab salad. I love the remoulade they put on it and the fried sweet potatoes garnish. Run, don't walk to Joyce's for 2025 HRW! Yes, it often tends to be a senior crowd, but the food and service are outstanding, prices a bargain. Had the HRW menu - one had blueberry bleu cheese salad, the other the gumbo for starters. Salad was fantastic, gumbo full of crab and shrimp and nice dark roux. Fried shrimp main - large, butterflied shrimp, hush puppies, onion rings and French fries. Other one had the Mardi Gras pasta - huge shrimp, crawfish, mushrooms and more. Took this home after a few bites, as the fried shrimp were shared and were quite enough. Even took the desserts - Key lime pie and white chocolate bread pudding (had before - do not miss) home as we were full. Drinks and wine are well priced. Neighborhood gem. read more

Went to Joyce's for Houston Restaurant Weeks and it was wonderful. We'd been there before, but not in a while. That will change after our visit. My wife had the corn & crab bisque, fried shrimp and key lime pie. I went off the HRW menu (Mediterranean diet) and had salad and the grilled mahi-mahi which had a nice poblano sauce. Food, cocktails, service and atmosphere were great. We will definitely return in the very near future. read more

A hidden gem! My first visit was very satisfying. My friend is a frequent visitor and suggested we eat lunch here. She ordered the Crab Bisque. I tried it. It had a delicious deep flavor. Excellent! I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Enchiladas. The plate came with a Pecan Rice side which was fantastic. The rice was topped with a mild picadilio relish. The other side was Black Beans with Mexican cheese. The beans were buttery smooth with a lot of flavor. The enchiladas had chunks of lobster and shrimp in a sauced wrapped in corn tortillas which were topped with melted cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed them. I finished with a Cappuccino and a slice of their famous Key Lime Pie. Wow! What a meal. The service was impeccable. The restaurant is cozy and pleasant. I enjoyed not having to yell to have a conversation. I was surprised at the quality of of my food. You wouldn't expect anything this good from looking at the outside of the restaurant. We found a hidden treasure...ssssh it's so good. A party of four and everyone had some different. I stuck with the Houston Resturant Week Menu. Everyone enjoyed the meal, music, service, very nice and clean Resturant. We stayed for a couple hours talking and enjoying each other and the food. The food was so good we all ordered food to go. They have a 3 times Award Winning Hot White Chocolate Bread Pudding. A must try!!! Ask for Ms. Carla, very nice, and the staff made sure we was attended to. Ms. Carla gave us the history on the Resturant. You need to get by this Resturant. They have a book for the menu, so you will find something on the list. My husband and I came to Joyce's for HRW. I ordered the Fish & Shrimp gumbo as a starter, Shrimp, Sausage, and Crawfish pasta for the main course, and a key lime pie. The gumbo was meh. The liquid was really thin, lacked flavor and was kinda bitter? I was disappointed with it. The pasta wasn't anything special. It tasted like something I could've made at home. The key lime pie was on the tart side and had a very thick crust. My dinner was as a whole was disappointing. My husband got a blue cheese blueberry salad, shrimp and lobster enchiladas, and bread pudding. His dinner also wasn't anything special. The enchiladas were dry on the inside. Overall, for $39/each I'd say HRW at Joyce's was a flop. We won't be going back. The service was attentive and friendly, though. read more

The decor is very retro (as in likely has never ever been updated since the 80s), but don't let it fool you - the food is amazing and the service was excellent. Came here for HRW dinner. We were seated immediately. This place has a beachside restaurant vibe. I went with the gumbo app, which was ok. Next was the sirloin and bacon wrapped shrimp. Really loved the shrimp, however, the sirloin was too stringy and kind of hard to cut. I didn't enjoy the texture of it very much. The desserts were very generously portioned and the highlight of the meal. I went with the key lime pie, which had such a thick crust. It was on the tart side, which I loved. Went in for an early dinner after a day flying and it was yummy! Service here is always prompt and the food is good. We shared an appetizer of the oysters and they were corn breaded and fried with an aioli and yum!! Then had a small cup of the seafood gumbo (which was a little too salty for my liking) and a small house salad. Then had a grilled trout entree which was encrusted with pistachios and capers and served with some pasta. Everything was wonderful! We love this spot! I am here to update and UPGRADE my earlier rating to 5 stars. Our 5 pm Saturday dining group have been back to Joyce's a few more times. I should say that our group always gets to maximum size when we decide to go to Joyce's. We know from experience that a large group can be a challenge especially since nothing is set ahead of time, we have couples and singles and all pay their separate tabs. The service personnel pitch in and handle it at Joyce's - this is an issue at some of our other selected locations. I love the gumbo and the fresh halibut a couple weeks ago was as good as I have ever had including in Alaska right off the boat. There are several other menu options that get great reviews among our group. Sorry I haven't tried the steak but I would not hesitate to do so. We usually get a couple bottles of wine among some of the group so I can't comment on bar drinks but we see a lot of locals there so I'm pretty sure the bar does a good job. Great little spot. Very happy this is close to my home. I'm going to guess the ratings are so low because of the ambiance. This is a place you go for the food, your company, and great staff attitudes but not necessarily to be "seen" Crab bisque- I'm not at all a bisque person. But our server suggested it and the gumbo, being the most popular. I thought it was delicious. Admittedly there were some large bones in the crab meat on the bottom but the amount of crab in it made it worth it. My friend had the Gumbo and said he was happy with it. Kind of skimped on the shrimp in my opinion and the broth tasted a bit salty. Grilled Salmon and Baby Green salad was delicious. Heavy on the dressing so next time I'd ask for it on the side but the salmon was cooked to perfection! I wish there was more blueberries but overall it was great He had the Shrimp and Lobster enchiladas and said they were amazing. They must have been since he didn't let me try, even on our Valentine's day lol Our server Alona was super sweet. Knew the menu well. Was accommodating in speeding up our table due to the Cirque tickets. She was a little fast to come ask how our food was before we had tried it but considering she came to check on us a reasonable amount of times, there was always opportunity to mention any unhappiness. I wanted to eat here because I heard they have great oysters, so I came for a quick lunch with girlfriend and her mom. The atmosphere reminded me of a failing restaurant seen on Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey, despite being a small mom n' pop place. We ordered the calamari and jalapeño poppers, which were both bland but still good with extra salt. For entree's, we ordered 3 soups, 2 were inedible and we had to send back. I hate sending anything back, but my gumbo was so bitter and gritty, I had to. My girlfriend's crab bisque tasted as if it had condensed milk in it and tasted quite odd, so she sent that back too. The server didn't seem to care about the fact that we didn't like the soups, no sorry or anything, he only offered getting us something else. Only good soup was the corn poblano with crab meat, which was only mildly good. I also had a Caesar salad which was nothing too special. I don't feel like returning anytime soon. read more

I have eaten their food several times (catered, to-go, and dine-in) and it had always been delicious. Their white chocolate bread pudding is one of the best in the city. I have had their enchiladas and yellowfin tuna, and both meals were very different but very tasty. The enchiladas (catfish and seafood) are very rich but have excellent flavor. The seafood component brings a nice change of pace to a traditional TexMex meal. The tuna was filling but light, and served with asparagus, portobello mushroom, and (very good) mashed potatoes. The ambiance inside the restaurant is a little outdated, but the service and the food make up for it. All-in-all a great restaurant. read more

Cute, quaint place tucked away on Winrock, near Pizza Hut and Whataburger. We came for lunch one day, after passing by it numerous times, but never actually stopped. The location was pretty empty, and mostly senior citizens inside. The staff was friendly and service was decent. They give you warm bread and butter while you wait for your meal. We ordered spinach dip and the portion size was great. The chips that came with it were nice and big, but I found them to be stale. Kind of disappointing. I ordered the seafood pasta off the lunch specials menu. I enjoyed my pasta, there wasn't as much flavor to it as you'd find elsewhere, but overall it was good. Tons of seafood in it, can't complain. The boyfriend ordered their lobster & shrimp enchiladas, that came with tomato bisque. Tomato bisque was yummy and the enchiladas paired well with the beans and rice. Aside from what tasted like stale chips, this place is pretty chill. Good for a lowkey, quiet meal. read more

My family and I haven't been to Joyce's in several years. We have wonderful memories of this place. Last night someone mentioned how much they loved the bread pudding from Joyce's. So in an impulse we placed an order for takeout and rushed over before they closed. We live pretty far from Joyce's. They had our order ready and the staff was so friendly and inviting. We picked up our order and we headed home. The bread pudding was just as amazing as we all remembered it. We were all so impressed by the consistency after all these years. Even though we live 40 miles away, we are going to make it a point to go back more often now. I highly recommend this family owned establishment. Excellent as always. The host and wait staff really go out of their way to make you feel at home. The food is fresh and alway very tasty. Although they have many delicious seafood dishes to choose from, I stick with the tried-and-true Seafood Gumbo. It's made with a nice dark roux and, with a few drops of Tabasco, it's wonderfully flavored. The Lobster Enchiladas are very good here.
