Jeff's Table is this hidden sandwich shop tucked inside a liquor store. Walking in you're immediately greeted by an incredibly genuine, friendly and happy human who was very eager to help. You can't help but smile and feel happy after interacting him since he radiates positive energy. There were a lot of great sandwich options to choose from, we ended up picking "The Jeff's Special" since it's their specialty. We waited a little at the liquor store for the sandwich to be ready, it's not a bad wait since you can use it to peruse the many drink and snack options if you wanted that. There were a few tables outside for you to sit and enjoy your sandwich. They're all shaded under umbrellas, but you'd have to play a nice balance game with your drink since it's pretty slanted. The sandwich itself was super delicious! The pastrami was cooked really well with nice charred edges, it's surrounded by gooey melted cheese, kraut that gave it nice texture and tang, all encased in this perfectly toasted seeded rye bread. The fennel in the bread, along with the sauce and 2 cheese really gave the sandwich the depth in flavour and complexity that makes it stand out from the rest. The only downside is it is very greasy and will leave your hands soaked in oil after, but boy is it worth it. Please stop by if you're ever in highland park. My wife and kid had come here a week or so ago and now it was my turn to try Jeff's Table. We ordered a Jubano, a Hot Kim Cheesy a side of pickles and some potato salad. We grabbed a seat after getting some drinks and chips from the front of the store. After a short wait our food arrived. I had a bite of the Jubano and was immediately impressed by the crunchy sesame roll and the quality of the sandwich. So tasty. I had some of the Kim cheesy and it was stellar. Thinly sliced pork shoulder Ham, house made kimchi, melted smoky cheese, plum mustard, aioli and chili oil in a grilled roll. Ridiculous. The potato salad was also very good with red onion, wasabi and tobiko adding a nice spice and saltiness. My kid said he'd prefer a slightly creamier potato salad but I really enjoyed it. Especially after adding just a bit of salt and pepper. Friendly service and outdoor seating made it nice to eat outside even though tables were at a considerable angle because of the sidewalk. Found this spot on Yelp and wanted to do a mini food crawl since I was in the area, figured that swinging by and picking up instead of ordering there would cut down on some time. Glad I did because one of my colleagues informed me later that they're more of a ghost kitchen and only have a pick up table in side a liquor store.. First time walking in and I was so confused. Other yelp reviews say you can walk though the liquor store and it's in the back, not sure. Personally think the sandwiches were really heavy and greasy for my personal liking, although sandwich was standard sized bread I'm only able to stomach half a sandwich due to the grease. And 2 of my 3 sandwiches were burnt black, luckily was able to pill the burnt parts off. Hot KimCheezy -flavor was really good. Loved how fermented the kimchi was, added that tang that makes you slightly pucker. Overall amazing flavor but this one was way too salty. The "Jeff's Special" (Reuben)- one of the best Reuben I've had. Meat was melt in your mouth pull apart. The Dirty Baby -wow so good, everything paired well. Tucked inside a liquor store is Jeff's Table -- and not the dusty, corner-store kind I grew up with. This spot stocks specialty chocolates, hot sauces, and an impressive beer and wine selection. Basically, the hipster liquor store of your dreams... with sandwiches. I ordered the yuzu kosho turkey sandwich: a generous, fresh, light bite. The pops of lemon absolutely made it for me -- bright, citrusy, and elevating the whole sandwich. My only wish? Just a bit more turkey to balance it all out. My friend went with the Dirty Baby, which leaned in the opposite direction in the best way: warm, cheesy, gooey, and comforting. Total indulgence sandwich. What I Ordered: -Jeff's Special $15.99 I've had Jeff's Table bookmarked for a while, but I don't get out to Highland Park often, despite it being close. I made a point of going specifically for Jeff's Special. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get a sandwich, as they have very limited hours (11 AM - 3 PM or sell out), and it would've been a waste of time to go all the way there if they sold out. They offer online ordering through ChowNow, which is the best way to guarantee a sandwich before they sell out. I ordered for pick-up at 2:45 PM, but the site indicated the order would be ready around 2:45 PM, not exactly at that time. Jeff's Table is inside a liquor store. I asked where to find them, and they explained they were experiencing technical difficulties and only accepting online orders. I told them I had already ordered online, and they directed me to my order on the table. It was already there. I asked where to eat, and they said there were tables and chairs on the right side of the liquor store. Jeff's Special is a Reuben sandwich with hand-sliced pastrami on griddled seeded rye, sauerkraut, spicy Russian dressing, melted Comte cheese, and a Gruyère crisp. It was pretty good and definitely photogenic, with a great cheese pull. However, my biggest issue is how oily the top of the sandwich is. I had to pat it down with a napkin to remove some of the oil and grease. The Reuben was good and different from any I've had before, in a positive way. If it weren't for the grease, I would have given it 5 stars. I'd be open to trying Jeff's Table again in the future, but I wouldn't be rushing back anytime soon. read more

I passed by this sign a couple of times at The Coldest Beer In Town in Highland Park. Recently I ordered takeout and tried one of their specialty sandwiches. The system works great. You find their menu online, order and pay. Then you pick up your order on a table right at the front of the store. The most challenging part is finding parking, but it is somehow easier when you are just picking up something and leaving. I tried the Dirty Baby on rye. Just the name is fun, and flavors are bold. It's a turkey salad melt with fontal and smoked gouda, crispy shallot, shiso pickled red onion and their house made chili crisp on what they call "holla" bread. All the flavors and textures are a party in your mouth. I also got a tiny side of the garlicky dill "chonks" pickle slices. It was a great palate cleanser between bites. Was looking forward to our meal here but we were sadly disappointed. I ordered the Jeff's special and my friend ordered a turkey sandwich. $30 just for two small sandwiches. Add another $10 for sodas and chips from the adjoining liquor store to complete a lunch meal. On my sandwich definitely not enough meat, the bread was over toasted and the cheese crisp was chewy hard. I could not taste the slaw as the portion was skimpy. It reminded me of an old school liquor store. Very 60s vibe. I opted for the Kold Kimcheezy. Very creative name lol. It was a good sandwich although it was a bit too much kimchi. Heard about this hidden gem in Highland Park, stopped by after a hike and I was blown away. When you walk into the store you see a wide assortment of sodas, beers, liquor, chips, and salsas. Head to the back and it's a sandwich speakeasy. We got the dirty baby (Smokey, a bit of a kick, and a slight crunch. Married the flavors/textures very well), the hot hot (pastrami with a habanero slaw, delicious and not too overpowering with the spice level. By far the favorite), and Thai peanut Mac salad (your mom's Mac salad with a Thai twist, dope and interesting take on a Mac salad). Been to a few sandwich spots around LA, gotta say this by far my favorite so far. Hit the spot after a hike. Make the trip to Highland Park, you won't be disappointed. read more

This place sounded amazing from the reviews and pics so I gave it a try today for lunch takeout. I ordered the Yuzu Kosho turkey sandwich with extra meat and from the pic you can see it looks like the regular amount of meat when you compare it to the other pics of the same sandwich. Also it was really salty. Didn't expect it to be that salty even though I know yuzu kosho is a salty condiment. I also got the Thai peanut Mac salad that was pretty good, but cost $9 for a small side. Seems pricey. The wasabi tobiko potato salad had way too much for wasabi, it cleared my sinuses and that's all that I could taste was the wasabi. 3.5 stars Conceptually, Jeff's table is so fun. You walk through a very well curated liquor store to get to a small sandwich counter in a dimly lit back room. I ordered 2 sandwiches: -The Jeff's Special ($15.50): hand-sliced pastrami even on griddled, seeded rye, kraut, spicy Russian-inspired dressed, melted Comté cheese and a Gruyère crisp -Dirty Baby ($15.50): hot, smokey, spicy chicken salad melt, Point reyes Toma, smoked Gouda, crispy shallot, whisper-pickled red onion, and chili crisp on Hokkaido-challah First off, the Jeff's Special was disappointingly small for a $15 sandwich. It could have used a few more slices of meat to give the sandwich a little more volume. While I did like the seeded rye bread for taste, but bread was quite thin which really highlighted how small the sandwich felt. The pastrami is of the stringy sort which I do like, but I felt like the sandwich was a little too heavy on the kraut making the overall taste a bit too tangy. The Dirty Baby was also small, however felt a little sturdier. I really enjoyed the chicken salad melt- it was as advertised: hot and smokey. Moreover, it had great texture with the shallot, red onion, etc. My only quip is that the bread was burnt which really masked the taste of the Hokkaido-challah. It was good, but the qual control could have been better. After reading an article in the LA Times about Jeff's Table, I had to try it. A friend and I went for lunch. The sandwich counter is tucked in the back of an old liquor store. BTW...the liquor store has a great selection of spirits, beers, and other beverages. The sandwiches are fantastic. I had the Jubano--their take on a Cubano sandwich. My friend had the Hainan-Style Turkey Salad sandwich. Both were delicious. The staff is helpful and friendly. Street parking was easy to find. Really liked their Reuben (Rachel) sandwich. Within walking distance of the Metro station, Jeff's Table's kitchen is located in the back area of the Flask liquor store, located in the Highland Park neighborhood of LA. The building (with a huge sign proclaiming "COLDEST BEER IN TOWN") used to house a different liquor store, before becoming (in 2019) an outpost of the Flask Fine Wines chain, based in Studio City. Jeff's Table opened around the same time, focusing on hot sandwiches, specifically Jeff's Special, which has gotten A LOT of buzz. It was on my list of places to try, so made it a point to come out to Highland Park with a friend who really likes Reuben sandwiches. They are only open for lunch 11 - 3, Tu - Su (closed Mondays). We got there right after it opened. There was a small sidewalk billboard, announcing that Jeff's Table was open. We also noticed some simple 2 person patio tables lining the building side of the sidewalk. They are explicitly there for Jeff's Table. You walk through the liquor store to get to the back, where there is a simple set-up to order and pay (they use Square as their payment platform) for your sandwich (giving them your name). We got two Jeff's Special ($15.50 each), and were asked to wait in the front of the store (there isn't much space in the back to hang around, never mind trying to eat). We found a table in the shade (noticing the sign stating liquor could not be consumed outside), and I went back to the liquor store to get a couple of Mexican sodas (pay for those separately with the liquor store cashier...who was super chill and friendly). The sandwiches came out a bit later, expertly cut in half and double wrapped. It was delivered by staff, and I guess she was expected to get it to us based off of the name. Instead of yelling out the name once she was outside, she looked at each table trying to find a 'James', passing us by. She did come back around...don't remember if I was proactive and told her my name, or if she asked... either way, we got our sandwiches. The sandwich was indeed very good. The rye bread was excellent, very buttered and grilled. The pastrami was more chipped than sliced, and initially looking at it, I thought the amount of meat was smaller than I was hoping for, but later realized it was the perfect balance. Their take on Russian dressing was great, and I though the kraut added the right amount of crunch and acidity. Just a great, well constructed sandwich and definitely deserving of being eaten right away. Speaking of names, I read that this sandwich with pastrami (instead of corned beef) is called a 'Rachel' (instead of 'Reuben'). I also read (different article) that Jeff (of Jeff's Table) is a former producer of the TV show, 'Friends'. Pretty confident that he and the staff know this, but 1) didn't want any play off of this association or 2) just want to make every sandwich with cured beef, kraut, cheese, and tart dressing to be a 'Reuben'. read more

I get the hype... As a sandwich enthusiast, I love exploring diff eateries that offer a good and hearty combination of bread, cheese, meat, and veggies (+ sauce because ya girl LOVES condiments!) all smacked together into the best meal ever. I got the "hot hot" which was a pastrami based sammy with habanero hot sauce that was simply too good to put down. I didn't even drink water until afterwards! So it def has a kick for me, so for those who don't enjoy spice... I wish I took a photo of my sandwich, but I got too excited and scarfed it down before I realized what had happened. I had the hot kimchi sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed how well put together the sandwich was. Usually I sort of dread the sloppiness of eating sandwiches that pack so much goodness into it, but it surprisingly held itself together very well. There was minimal mess! It's been a solid minute since I've enjoyed a good pastrami sandwich in LA. And Jeff's Table doesn't make a good one. They make a FANTASTICALLY EXCELLENT Pastrami sandwich!! First off - parking sucks Expect to drive around and get frustrated 17 times. I stopped by Saturday around 1:30pm and I was the only one ordering so the cashier was kind enough to offer suggestions and answer any questions. By the time my food was ready, there was a line down the hallway into the liquor store. The only "complaint" so to speak I have regarding the service or process of service is that if you're paying cash you have to take the receipt to the liquor store register, pay, get your receipt "stamped", then return to "Jeff's Table" and return the stamped receipt. It was fine today since I was the only person but I can't imagine during busier times how this goes. I orderd the Jeff's Special Reuben and Wasabi Tobiko Potato salad which came to about $25, then since I decided to grab a soda after, $2 for that so $27 for my meal without having leftovers. It's a bit pricey and I think some things can change here or there. The sandwich itself however is perfect. It's a good size and full of meat/cheese so you're getting your money's worth there. The bread is toasted to a perfect crunch. The pastrami is so juicy and tender with so much flavor. There's so much gooey comte cheese along with the crispy gruyere crisp. The kraut is sour, the Russian dressing is creamy, there's nothing more needed for this. The potato salad on the other hand was . . . interesting. At first bite I didn't like it and thought I wasted $7. It's a big portion but the flavors are interesting. A few more bites and I realized the combination of flavors are both good and bad. This has dill, aioli, celery, red onion, aged rice vinegar, wasabi and flying-fish roe. I think the Tobiko offers more of a slight texture change than flavor, partly due to the dill being so overpowering and not quite working with the "Japanese" side of this potato salad. The wasabi comes and goes, I'm not sure if it wasn't mixed well or, as I said earlier, the combination of flavors doesn't allow it to come through. And although I love all the ingredients, I think the dill is what really throws this off. I will 100% come back for the sandwiches and keep trying more new items each time I return! read more
