We stumbled on Four Seas on our family vacation back in May of last year, just driving around the first night. I have been coming here since I was about 6, which was longer ago than I want to think about! The ice cream is creamy, fresh, and always delicious. My favorites are Peppermint Stick and Mint Chip - both pink! I also love their Butter Crunch - also my mother's favorite. We always take a long time to decide on a flavor but the ice cream girl was patient and let us make our decision and made a few recommendations for us. They had a lot of simple flavors, which made it difficult for me to choose. I like these flavors better than the crazy mix a bunch of things in types of flavors so this was my type of place. The ice cream is good but not nearly the best on the Cape. We got two flavors and both were icy. The ice cream seemed creamy around the ice chunks. The sizes are also ridiculously small. You can only get two flavors if you order a large? Maybe stick to ordering a cup since my fiance got more ice cream in her small cup than I did in my medium cone. There are two smaller sizes available on the menu but I'm not sure what they use as a scoop for those. Maybe a teaspoon? read more

We walked in two minutes before close and while, as a person who works in the food industry, I know that this annoying, however they were blatantly rude and basically pushing us out of the door. At one point a employee locked my grandfather out after he left to get money FOR THERE TIP and proceeded to yell "WE ARE CLOSED". I really do sympathize for being kept later than expected at your job but we took up an additional 10 mins of there time and they all walked away with 2 extra dollars at that. My family has been going there for decades and always loved what we got. On our last trip I ordered a sundae with whipped cream. The scooper comes to show me my order and say this is how the whipped cream is coming out - it looked like some milk had been poured on top. Why bother showing me - like I would want it that way - just say the machine is down. Not really a big deal, I just asked for marshmellow instead. Then he went on to make my wife's banana split sundae. He used a brown mushy banana. You could see through the clear boat/bowl that the whole banana was brown. We said something and he assured us the banana was fresh and that he would ask his manager about it. He came back and said the bananas were purchased each day and stored in a 28 degree freezer so they brown fast. I doubted that because the thing was not frozen but we didn't really want to make a big fuss. Also, my wife is shy and didn't want to reject it. She took a couple of small bites and decided to just keep it. Well she ended up only eating the ice cream and toppings and then just threw out one whole banana slice and the rest of the melted stuff on the bottom which is often the best part. The banana had just become a long clump of mush. For $8.25 you should at least get a good banana. The bananas may have been bought that day but maybe they are saving money by buying old ones. Nonetheless - stop storing them in the freezer if that is ruining them. I think they did change owners fairly recently, maybe the business is just not what it once was. read more

I am responding to a listing on Boston.com of the best places in New England for ice cream. Four Seas in Centerville was among them. We live locally, and last summer, during strawberry season, we took a friend to Four Seas. I expected to have the fresh strawberry ice cream of my youth, with shreds of tart fresh strawberries in contrast to the sweetness of the ice cream. Well, there was no sign of fresh anything. The ice cream was pink, and barely tasted of strawberries. We sat down with our ice cream. The table and the seating was sticky and smelly, and the place smelled like mouse droppings. It was absolutely disgusting. We will not return, and we certainly won't take guests there. We will go to Gelato on Pearl Street in Hyannis, where the product is bright, full of flavor and delicious. The store is pristine, and the owners seem to love what they do--make the best gelato my husband and I have ever eaten. read more

I live on Cape Cod year-round and consider myself to be something of an icecream connoisseur (in other words, I just really love icecream). Four Seas icecream is, in fact, delicious. It's very creamy and there's a decent variety. However. I'm not sure it's worth the headache that comes with all the hype and hence the very VERY long lines of summer tourists. It's not actually all of the people that cause the headache, it's the fact that this absurdly popular icecream destination has never bothered to create a more efficient strategy for serving their customers. Once you actually make it through the door and into the shop, you're greeted with a somewhat chaotic scene that reminds me a bit of a crowded bar; servers rushing to and fro' behind the counter, customers vying for their attention. As someone who's never been good at summoning a bartender, this isn't my favorite setup. When the servers are finished with one order they yell "next separate party!!". Oh ok...the separate party (say what?). I became so bewildered by all of the people squished into the tiny space around me and all of the confusion that I wasn't even sure who was next (and believe me, they leave it entirely up to you to decide). So, we ended up waiting much longer than we probably should have, while we tried to be overly considerate of a whole lot of nonreciprocating patrons. Further, they advertise expanded parking to allow more room for customers, but have never added picnic tables or any type of outdoor seating area (there's a small brick pavillion-type area with a few stone benches). Take your icecream to the asphalt parking lot folks, because there's not really another option. To wrap it all up, Four Seas is a very successful icecream business that should put a little more of its likely vast resources into enhancing the customer experience, instead of relying on their quaint, family-run icecream shop theme. While, again, the icecream is superb, I would not say it's "un-matched" (as one of the other reviewers claimed) by any means. Personally, I'll stick to exploring Cape Cod's many MANY other more customer accomodating icecream jems. *As a side note, you can buy Four Seas icecream at many of our local grocery stores. I would recommend grabbing a pint and taking it home over a visit to the shop. read more

Over all the ice cream shops in Cape Cod, this wasn't my favorite. It's super crowded and the ice cream place is extremely small. I ordered the Banana Ice Cream and they poured tons of Hot Fudge all over it and you couldn't taste the Banana. There's defiantly better like Cape Cod Creamery. But, they sell Merchandise but it's pretty pricey. It's a cute idea but not worth as much money they charge. If you live near bye though, check it out! read more

We did not enjoy four seas at all!! Our bed and breakfast owners were raving about it so we couldn't wait to try it out, but left very unimpressed. All the ice creams were way too soft and it was incredibly hot inside of the place, there was no queuing of the line, just hoards of people with a bunch of different kids scooping ice cream. We got cut in front of, even though I was standing right up front... I got the chocolate almond and a scoop of vanilla chai, the chocolate tasted like they mixed some Hershey's syrup into vanilla, and the almonds inside were soggy, the chai was mediocre and did not have much flavor. Prices were astronomical, with tiny portions!! A "large" (two tiny scoops), was $6.90! We are from a town just north of Boston and can get that same amount which would be considered a small for under $4... another yucky thing was the water they were cleaning the scoops off in, it was very murky and didn't seem very sanitary to me. read more

As an ice cream lover that travels through out USA, I have a prospective on Four Sea's Ice Cream that carry's depth. The quality of Four Sea's Ice Cream is second to none. The freindly out going staff get the orders right and are cheerful and glad to scoop out a treat for every customer. One unique part of teh Four Sea's experience is the line that goes out the door. Waiting in line in most ice cream places is boring! At Four Sea's is a social happening. I dont have "roots" in Barnstable, but when in line, every one is socable and easy to talk to. Went today 8/29 at 330pm. Staff too busy socializing with each other, milk shake (ordered a frappe) was very watery and missing 4 ounces also charged us a medium for 1.5 scoops ice cream dish. I had not been to Four Seas in years and was very excited that I had the opportunity to try it again tonight. I was annoyed before I even ordered ice cream by the chaos of the ordering process. There was no way of telling who should order next and the wait was unbearable. Once we ordered the young children I was with got their ice cream. One bite into theirs the older child found a piece of green plastic in his. We brought it to their attention and they have him another, only to find a gigantic chunk of ice in that one. My friend ordered a mint chip, that minus well had been called ice cream soup, and she was unable to eat it because of the rancid taste. Mine had some sort of black stuff in a fruit ice cream. Saying we were disappointed is an understatement. We had to leave and go to Gone Chocolate. If you want to enjoy your ice cream, buy it elsewhere. read more

My family and I went to Four Seas today. There ice cream is ok. There staff STINKS. I asked for a Mint Chocolate Chip frap " Thick." The little kid behind the counter adds the ice cream to a cup then adds milk. Then she mixes it for 10 min on high. Then when its done she adds more milk so it was like drinking water. My dad got a small ice cream sunday. He asked for whip cream she gives him marshmallow. Some how she was able to get my mothers order right. So if your going to go there make sure you tell the little kids working behind the counter your order twice. Maybe someday the management staff will train them to listen customers. read more

Very disappointed with our visits here this summer. My daughter ordered a milkshake. After the server prepared it, the cup was 2/3's full. I watched expecting her to add more. Instead, she flipped the cup over with the lid on so the top was coated in milkshake. We thought this had to be a mistake of young teen just learning. Because we live in Centerville, we gave it another chance. My husband ordered a shake. The server, a different person this time, did the same thing! Flip the cup. Make it look full. His shake was a bit over half full. And the cost -- $6. For a long-standing ice cream shop, they should not be trying to deceive customers. Not fooled. Won't be back. I use to beg my parents to take my here when i was a kid. When you are a kid you don't understand what you are eating just that it tastes great! Well the time of being oblivious of whats in foods is a thing of the past and I am an ingredient hound. You put in cheap ingredients and I will find out. This ice cream is soft and odd tasting. Does not harden in the freezer just stays a pleasant mushy texture. Ben and Jerry's is a better choice for ice cream if you really want something made with decent ingredients. The thing that makes people like this ice cream is that its made with liquour and it just doesn't do it for me anymore, real ice cream is real because its made with real ingredients not with corn syrup and odds and ends that somehow others just don't read or care to know. read more

Simply the Best. I lived in Centerville for 20 years, and since I have moved away, I have never found better Ice Cream. Each time I return to Cape Cod, I make several visits to Four Seas. The ice cream is very creamy. Flavors are fabulous, service is great. The environment has a great vibe! Honor students from Barnstable high school keep the line moving nicely. Been here in past- a few years ago-- great ice cream then- not from this area but always wanted to return. Went there last weekend to bring a friend. They were open with limited menu. Walked in and I was shocked! The place was a mess. Half of the store looked like it was under construction or the inside of an old garage filled with junk. The counter, serving area was covered with packing supplies. The woman handed me a scrap of paper with the flavors (7). I was afraid to order. We did order a "tot" size cone which was less than 1/2 scoop-- $3! No explanation or acknowledgement of the condition of the inside. It was like going to a hoarder's ice cream shop! What happened? This place should have beened closed until it was cleaned up properly. I was shocked and sooooo disappointed . It was also disrepectful to the customers that have made this place so renowned over the years. Will NOT return! read more
