They don't always have them available for scooping. And a pint is $.25 more than a small dish or cone! We split the pint between two of us. Or take the extra back to the house. Been coming here for years and its always been great. I grew up locally and love all the flavors. Super disappointed today to take my family only to find out that all the ice cream was "pre-scooped"....I'm sorry what? Is this even an ice cream shop? Not only was it "pre-scooped" in tiny little to-go cups (cup is a generous term) but the flavors available were very limited. You would think if they were pre-scooping ice cream they would at least be able to offer all of the flavors seeing as there is nothing else going on when you order it and they could better manage inventory. Not the case. I got the mocha brownie dough and it was all frozen and icy, all the parts had separated. The texture was not appetizing and it was generally not enjoyable to eat. Very disappointing as I was very much looking forward to our visit. They are charging $3.50 for these "cups" and they should be ashamed. People who want ice cream packed away can buy that at a grocery store, they come to a local shop for the local experience and, theoretically, the higher quality. I'm sorry Four Seas but this is not quality. I'd like to blame it on Covid but we came earlier in the summer and we were able to get cones/dishes and it was great. The third oldest ice cream place in New England? The best ice ceam on the Cape for how many years in a row? There's a reason Caroline Kennedy served Four Seas at her rehearsal dinner! After a long hot day at the beach, we popped in for some frozen goodness. They offer around 30 flavors (I wanted to try pistachio pineapple but it wasn't available). In addition to the Ice cream, they sell yogurts, sherberts and sorbets, shakes and sandwiches. This was a quintessential New England jewel. I had a dish of very hard to find cantaloupe ice cream. Opening day might not be the best day to go here. The girl who helped us was rude but she was a younger girl. So I will chalk it up to opening day and possibly her first job. I got a medium mocha chip in a cup. It was one small scoop for a medium? I would be hard pressed to call it a small size. It was packed full of chips which was the best part. The ice cream was creamy but there wasn't a lot of flavor. Then I had to bring home a coffee frappe and that was only 75% full. Regardless of the reason, my first experience at Four Seas today can best be summed up in one word: average. We have spent summers in Centerville for over 25 years. Four Seas was our favorite destination. Not anymore. The Lobster sandwich which was was once loaded and delicious is now grossly overpriced and served on smaller bread. As for the bread, it fell apart while eating it and the wait staff was indifferent to our complaints. Now about their cream. It's good but not outstanding and my biggest complaint is that its not frozen enough to servive the cone. If you like your ice cream soft and in a bowl then by all means go to Four Sees. They are plenty of ice cream shops in Hyannis with great ice cream that can be served in a cone! read more

This used to be our go-to at least once or twice every summer vacation. Ordered a small mint chocolate chip. No chocolate chips in it and it is pink. So basically a peppermint ice cream. Portion was smaller than a kids scoop at most places on the Cape. Portion was so small you could see the bottom of the cup. Black raspberry was bland. And don't ask for Jimmies (sprinkles). I had heard good things about Four Seas, but unfortunately we had a disappointing experience. Ice cream flavor was fine, but the portions were ridiculously small by any normal standard and it was served to us less than completely cold. I honestly thought they must have run out of the flavor I'd ordered when they pass back the toddler-sized cup that was supposedly my regular sized ice cream order (the actual kids size was practically a thimble). Most ice cream places go to the other extreme - serving up a small ice cream that is ridiculously large. Four Seas has corrected too far in the other direction. Four Seas has set sail for me. I was extremely disappointed after my first--and last--visit to this cramped shop, especially after reading all of its positive reviews. In my opinion, this place seems like it's going on reputation and with lack of other options in the area, though it's near the beach. My friend and I stepped into a small counter area connected to a somewhat larger but still small restaurant, the entire area hot and too enclosed to be comfortable. T-shirts and other memorabilia clutter the already too confined space. It's a really worn down building. We grabbed a couple of stools at the counter, then tried the vanilla chai and coffee flavors. The chai was good, but a little too sweet to have a lot of. The coffee was really bland, with almost no flavor. We still wanted to give Four Seas a try, though, after reading its praises. We ordered a strawberry ice cream cone and a thick coffee frappe. The strawberry was dripping everywhere, including over and down the cone onto my friend's hand. The ice cream didn't even seem to be hard when scooped right out of the case. (Maybe a refrigeration problem?) The scoop was eaten quickly out of fear that it would go everywhere. The flavor was also bland like the coffee, despite its name "fresh strawberry," and didn't even look like strawberry ice cream as it was kind of grayish with flecks in it. The frappe took a few minutes to make and the server making it didn't seem too confident. He asked me if I wanted it with or without syrup. I said however it's typically made at Four Seas and to make it thick. He said with and I approved, remembering the blandness of the ice cream itself. With my friend almost done with her cone, I finally got my frappe. It was mostly milk with little coffee flavor, hardly thick at all. The server re-made it, and I asked him to make it really thick, but the second one was not good either, still thicker milk consistency and with little flavor. I ended up throwing it out outside. It was horrible. The staff was pleasant and nice enough, mostly young teenagers running behind the counter and through the kitchen door. However, their kindness will not bring me back after my first visit to Four Seas, as the ice cream served didn't prove to be a high wave of success. My advice: don't go to Four Seas. High prices, bland ice cream, and milky frappes don't cut it, even if the servers are nice and it's a short walk to the beach. read more

Our family comes to Four Seas every time we come to the Cape, which is usually once a year. We absolutely love this place. Tonight, however, we were really surprised and disappointed to pay more than $10 for two orders, a medium cone and a small dish, and in each case we got the *tiniest* of scoops--charitably, what you might expect in a kiddie cone. I don't think I've written a Yelp review in my life--and certainly not a negative one!--but we won't be coming back as long as this is the policy. Oh Cape Cod.... So many creameries to choose. I do have my favorite but always willing to try others. Kudos to the delicious flair on some different flavors like Penuche Pecan and Cantelope. Downside is many of the specialty flavors are only available in quarts. The staff is friendly and I would have given this establishment 4 stars but two pet peeves arose from my visit: 1. Very small scoop size for the price 2. No cherry on a sundae. For me a sundae without a cherry is like a day without sunshine. We ordered a chocolate chip ice cream in a bowl which was delicious but not as "vanillay" as I would have expected. The other minor critique was the fact that they didn't have sugar free ice cream in a size less than a pint which was a drag. As a lifelong Twin Acres fan, I have to say I was hesitant to go out of my comfort zone. Seeing as I was in the neighborhood, I tried the Four Seas. I expected culinary excellence, and received mediocrity. 1) the ice cream was soft, and melty. I ordered hard serve. 2) the flavor choices were limited. I ordered Mocha Chip and Coffee, and others in my family ordered Butter Crunch, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Almond... The ingredients were limited. The cookie dough contained no cookie dough, it was basically vanilla ice cream. Same for the Butter Crunch, and the Chocolate almond was just basic chocolate as well. 3) the large cup (which was at best a medium) was $7.50. It feels like you're walking into a little piece of history when you visit Four Seas. Lines can be around the block on a hot summer night, and rumor has it Jackie O frequented this place often. Tons of flavors for you to choose from for a cup, cone or packed in a pint to go. There is a counter to sit and eat at, or tables too. The place is old and very popular, so it can get disorganized in a crowd due to lack of real line (queue) or cash register area. Don't know if it is because of the pandemic restrictions or less staffing but it didn't hold up, from the slow and forgetful service that took half an hour to serve us a couple of scoops of ice cream to the limited flavor selections. Alright, to address the price complaints in other reviews- this is premium, small batch ice cream. They don't order in bulk from Hood, ok? There's nothing wrong with Hood ice cream, if that's what you want. If it is, then run down to Shaw's and grab a carton; stop whinging about paying a little more for the best ice cream God ever put on this earth (ok, not literally, I know, but you get my drift). Massachusetts has a high cost of living in general, and the Cape in particular is expensive. Their prices are comparable to other premium ice cream boutiques. But here's the thing about Four Seas- it isn't like a little snooty boutique. It is like a time capsule. The place has been operating since the 1930s and it feels like stepping into another age. I love these little preserved pockets- if you're lucky, you can find them dotted throughout New England because, being a native, I can tell you-- New Englanders are resistant to change! I'm willing to pay an upcharge for the experience alone. I sincerely hope it never changes. I love its sloping floors, and water served in paper cone cups, and the sweet little strawberry ice cream cone painted (and lovingly preserved) on the wooden door in the awkwardly placed ladies room in the back. I love that I could order a cream cheese and olive sandwich (even though we are never there on time for sandwiches), because where do you see an item like that on a menu, huh? Where? If you can't appreciate all that-- if you need everything to be shiny and new, and easy and perfect-- I don't know what to say to you, except I'm sorry. You're missing out on a lot of heart and soul. As for the ice cream, I don't remember when we started making Four Seas a "must" on our summer Cape visits--we discovered it maybe 15 years ago-- but we have never been disappointed. At the Four Seas it's the fruit flavors that really sing. Strawberry, Coconut, Peach, Lemon Crisp-- these have long been our favorites and we always stop on our way off the Cape to pack our cooler with them. Although, truthfully, it is all good. So good. I have traveled quite a bit and now live in a big Midwestern city. I have literally eaten ice cream all over the world-- but, with the exception of Herrell's (in Northampton, MA), I have never found an ice cream shop that can match it. The fudge is homemade, the whipped cream is fresh, some of the options are truly old fashioned and unique. My one little quibble is that they had to change the candy for the Lemon Crisp a few years ago and I kind of wish they would offer a candy-less version because it's a little too much now-- although it doesn't deter me from eating it! Finally, the staff here is amazing. It's always the sweetest crew of kids. They are patient, kind, never seem flustered-- for years they have handled the elderly members of our family with grace. First my grandmother, and now, as the years have marched on, my aging parents. It's different kids every year, but the attitude is the same. I've also seen them be good with each other-- lots of genuine teamwork. It's the sign of good management and a healthy, happy workplace. The value that a small business like this gives to its local community is incalculable. How many youngsters have cut their teeth with their first summer jobs at the Four Seas over the years? Who knows? But I'm glad it's been there for them, and I hope it is there for many generations to come. read more

My dad used to come here in the 1930s when he was at camp; and when I was a kid he'd insist we stop and get ice cream anytime we went by, no matter what time of day! I remember him getting a peach cone at 10am. I asked what was so special? He let me taste it...I'd never loved fruit flavored ice cream but it was the best I had ever had. Fast forward to today. Four Seas was pretty packed on my visit -- I am sure it's because of its combination of tourists and regulars alike. The process of waiting for service is a little awkward. You go inside this diner and stand behind the stools where the bar is, but there isn't any form of a line -- come to think of it, it feels like a regular bar. I am absolutely ashamed that I didn't get straight-up ice cream when I came here. I honestly wasn't in the mood for it, so I opted for a root beer float. I did have a scoop of ice cream and it was great with the root beer, this is why I wish I had got a cone. A nice little extra thing worth noting is that Four Seas cares enough to leave a party tent on the side of the building (see photos) for relief from the hot sun. I can't say I'd drive down to the cape to have more (2 hour drive) but I'll definitely lobby to visit Four Seas again the next time I'm in the area. read more

I have been coming here since I was literally a baby, in fact my mother has been coming her since she was a child. This place is such a tradition in my family my husband and I even had some of our engagement pictures taken here. To say we love four seas would be an understatement. The ice cream is always delicious and the hot fudge is the best around. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because the prices have gotten completely out of hand. Almost $7 for a large ice cream cone and $6+ for a regular sundae. I get that they claim to use local ingredients, but so do a lot of other ice cream shops on the Cape and they don't charge nearly as much. I think they know people will pay the prices every now and then so they take advantage of that fact. This shop is quintessential Cape Cod. I walked in to an un-renovated ice cream shop with friendly scoopers and a laundry list of flavors. I settled on the peanut butter chocolate chip and WOW did it not disappoint. The ice cream was luscious and had thick chunks of peanut butter.
