Food was fresh & amazing. Atmosphere was cozy and calm. 10/10 would recommend, came out of state & would definitely come back.

I had the ham and cheese omelette, hashbrowns, and a side of their sausage gravy with a biscuit.

No frills diner-style food, I had the steak and eggs and they make it all to order right over the counter! Great service, very sweet lady helped me out (it was my first and only time in Portage, everyone else seemed like a regular and had good conversations with the workers there). Homey place and the prices are great too compared to Madison or other larger cities in Wisconsin.

Good option instead of fast food and I was ordering lunch for my husband, my brother, and myself. We placed our order Via doordash and the whole experience was good! They closed 1pm and I places our order at noon so they were out of the meatloaf sandwiches. Someone from the cafe called me right away once I placed my order for the food and asked me if we wanted to ordere something else instead. They both ordered BLTs and I ordered the turkey sandwich also some cheese curds. The food was good! Expected nothing less!

Very friendly service. I love that I can see the cook prepare my food. Clean restaurant and good food.

    Meatloaf sandwich, it is amazing!

You will come here and you will like this review because you will really like the food. Also, you will be surprised at how little you spent. We stopped in on our way to Granite Peak (they are the same exit as Cascade Mountain). Cute "old fashioned" diner with barstool seats and booths; a picture on the wall showed the same interior back to 1955. They have large dividers between each booth, which was nice. The waitress was very attentive and she was very quick. The owner, Steve, is on the grill and you can tell he knows his away around a grill. The prices are great, most items are under $10. I ordered Steve's Meatloaf Sandwich, a generous cut of meatloaf, grilled onions, on marbled rye bread; it was amazing. I kept thinking about the the rest of the afternoon. We just got the chips with our meal and they were fresh. My wife got the Reuben; it was great. This was not a Reuben where you took a bit and got a chunk of meat, you bite through and it was TENDER. My son got the bacon cheeseburger and couldn't put it down; he ate it non-stop and said it was one of the best he ever had. This place is no frills but the food is memorable!

I met my wife for breakfast at the Portage Cafe. The food was great and the 2 people running the place were a lot of fun. I recommend it.

It pulls in a lot of the local people but also all the people that come into the Dells area for vacationing or to see the circus or go to many of the beautiful parks around the Dells and Baraboo. Hands down this place rocks based on portions/ speed of service- quality of food. Oh, and before I forget I am pretty sure if you get toast as a side it is homemade bread which is a nice touch. If you are hungry and in Baraboo and want a good breakfast at a good price- check this place out. Baraboo is Lucy to have this diner operating right in town.

I had the kids' Mickey Mouse pancake with a mimosa, and honestly... amazing new combo for me!! Such a great spot to stop at on the way back to the city. Friendly service and delicious food. It's typical for the place to be shoulder-to-shoulder during peaks hours so be prepared for that, but it's part of the fun and atmosphere. A few highlights- A fritter to start? You'd be crazy not to! Their beef barley soup is the best I've ever had. Their tenderloin also ranks among the best I've had, at their best it will have a pronounced and pleasing sear on it that is second to none. Try the cold strawberry soup, it's pleasantly unique and delicious. Their tuna is solid, not the best around but reliably good and always a good value. We arrived and open to door to a JAM PACKED BAR, we were not so sure at the beginning of this was the place. But one of the ladies followed us out and convinced us to stay. All of the staff is very friendly and they really have service down to a science. They take your order at the bar, and seat you and bring you your food when it's ready. Or closer to being ready. So that they don't clog up tables with people just waiting. Our server Brittany was AMAZING. Very kind, quick, and every time you asked for something she brought it right away, never missed anything or forgot anything. The restaurant dining area is smaller and cozy, but they are trying those tables as fast as they can. And the food is outstanding, great flavor. And large portions, you get a lot of extras too. Like the fritters which are kinda like a sugar doughnut. Would definitely recommend this place.
