Did a DIY pastry crawl for my sister's 40th. We hit 10 bakeries and this was easily top 3. The strawberry cake we got and the traditional ham and machego cheese sandwich with French rosemary butter was out of this world. Service is prompt and friendly. It's right across from the Claremont so parking can be tough but lots of cars are coming and going so spots free up quick. Buy some pastries and a coffee and go sit outside on a bench and you for a perfect Saturday.

Found this place while I was a Cal student. Amazing place for pastries and cakes. Have gotten the valrohna chocolate cake here a few times for birthday cakes. Easy to preorder ahead for cakes. The cake is decadent with a rich chocolate flavor and the toffee adds great texture. Morning pastries galore-the cheese roll and fruit scones are my favorite. Coffee is solid too. Recommend going early, even at 8am the line can be out the door-though it moves quickly. Street parking is easy to find.

Delicious!!!!!! This is my friend's favorite bakery in Berkeley and I came here to get her a box of pastries for her birthday. I arrived around 7:30 and it was empty, but as I was deciding what to get there was a line out the door. Everything looks delicious it was so hard to choose. For myself I got the egg and ham croissant which was so unique and absolutely delicious. A perfect savory treat. I also had a bite of their strawberry-rhubarb breton which was also delicious, kinda like a shortbread cookie with cream and strawberry. The worker was super sweet helping me out and patient as I was struggling on what to order for her and myself. Small shop with meter/street parking.

Don't be like me--arrive early, ideally before noon and preferably on a weekday, so you can catch a wider selection before they sell out. I've only managed to try their croissant, pain au chocolat, and scones since those are usually what's left later in the day, but they've all been delicious. Perfectly flaky, buttery, and everything you want in a pastry. Hopefully one of these days I'll muster up the energy to wake up early enough to snag one of their savory items!

Dang !!!! Another 5 stars because no one (beside La Châtaigne in Lafayette) does croissants as they ought to be. I would genuinely advise you to use the amazing pre-paid order they have by simply calling the store. If they don't pick up - as they are kind of super busy- leave your number and you get a call back. It secures that what you want will be bagged and ready for you to grab, you can even walk straight in and wait near the refrigerated counters where they will simply ask for your name. Unless you like being in line , then don't pre-order and join the much deserved line of faithfuls.

This is a small bakery in a quaint neighborhood known for its French pastries. A family favorite and v European. They offer bread, quiche, sandwiches on baguette and pastries. I believe there's also the option to order full pies or cakes. Everything is amazing but very sweet. The sandwiches are very simple. Friendly quick service. Absolutely no animals here. Don't bring your dog. They sell out early on weekends and Holidays as well.

liked the pain au chocolat though i wouldn't go out of my way for it from sf. there was a line out the door on a sunday morning, waited about 10 minutes to get to the front and place my order, they grab your items and hand it to you from across the counter. just a bench inside (no one really sits on it), and a couple other benches outside.

I really love all the baked goods from here! You honestly cannot go wrong with any! We came the day before July 4th at around 9:30am. We were lucky and found meter parking a block away! The line into the shop wasn't too long and it went by quick! I order the apricot oolong cake, canelé, baguette, ham & egg croissant, fruit scone! Everything was so delicious! The ham & egg croissant reminded me a bit of Craftsmen & Wolves' rebel within muffin! I really like the fruit scone the most!! The staff was super friendly and patient with my indecisiveness! lol I really can't wait to go back and get more items!

Fournee Bakery is a true gem for pastry lovers. Their croissant is perfectly crispy on the outside with soft, buttery layers inside--easily one of the best I've had. The chocolate brownie is rich, dense, and deeply satisfying without being overly sweet. And the chocolate chip cookie hits the mark with just the right chew and bursts of melty chocolate. Everything feels thoughtfully made with high-quality ingredients. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area.

Was in the area and decided to stop by. Street parking is available, but tricky during its busiest hours, but we managed to find a spot a few blocks away. What I tried: coriander walnut scone (3/5) -- the texture of the dough alone was very spongy, but the walnut and coriander went well together fruit scone (3/5) -- wish the distribution of fruit was better in this. The scone was quite dry, cake-like, and tasted of nothing. The turbinado sugar is the only thing that helped it almond croissant (5/5) -- sweet, nutty, crispy pain au chocolat (5/5) -- beautiful flaky layers and very good quality dark chocolate I'd be willing to try out more of their items if I'm in the area again.

Their sandwiches are probably what first got me hooked. The bread is so good, with a chewy inside and a nice crust, and the fillings are always fresh and flavorful. The combinations are also really well thought out. From there, I started working my way through the rest of the menu. I've had their Kouign Amann, Quiche Lorraine, croissants, baguette, Sourdough Batard, Sunflower Rye Spelt, pretzel buns (you can probably tell I'm a bread person), pies, seasonal radicchio salad, and passionfruit madeleines. Their seasonal radicchio salad has actually become one of my favorites to take to work for lunch. I also love that they rotate the Kouign Amann flavors, so there's usually something new to try whenever I stop by. I've enjoyed almost everything I've had here. One pie was a little too sweet for me personally, but that's really the only thing that comes to mind. I also really like the presentation and the atmosphere. The pastry case always looks beautiful and tempting, and the space feels relaxed and welcoming. It's easy to pop in and grab something, but it's also a nice place to meet friends for coffee and something sweet. The prices feel very reasonable for the quality, which is another reason I keep coming back. More than anything, I just really enjoy having Starter Bakery in the area. It's become one of my neighborhood go-to spots, and I always seem to find another reason to stop by.

The ambiance is wonderful - I absolutely love the deep blue color scheme, the cute matching mugs, and gorgeous plants. They have a lot of different pastry choices, but unfortunately, there was only one vegan option: a tiny hazelnut sweet bread. I ordered the bread along with an Americano. When I tried to take the pastry out of the package to share it with my girlfriend, it completely crumbled into a big mess. I went up to the counter to let them know, and the employee told me it was actually meant to be eaten straight from the package. She mentioned it was on the drier side being vegan, she took the crumbled mess and gave me a new one but it ended up having the exact same issue. It wasnt dry, but it just wouldn't hold any moisture and was far too crumbly to eat. For $5, this tiny pastry was a major letdown. To make the interaction weirder, she took the original crumbled bread back from me and I'm only assuming threw it away, which felt entirely unnecessary. Having been vegan for nine years, I've had some truly amazing, moist vegan baked goods, so this was incredibly disappointing. While the vibe and aesthetic are great, the vegan options were major letdown. CC accepted Restroom available

Visit date: 4/19/2026…read more We came about an hour before closing on a Sunday, so unfortunately many of the items I wanted to try based on other people's recommendations were already sold out. We ended up getting three things: * The cheese twist was soooo good! The cheese was flavorful and the pastry itself was perfectly done. * The apple pastry was interesting. Unlike many places where the pastry is either bland or overly sweet, Acme's pastry had a slight saltiness to it, which I actually think is genius. I almost always prefer a hint of savory flavor to balance out the sweetness from the filling or topping. My only issue with this one was that the apple topping was not sweet at all and leaned more tart, so paired with the salty pastry, it was not quite the flavor combination I was hoping for. * The mini raspberry pastry had the same issue for me. The raspberry topping was just a bit too tart and sour for my taste. Even though not everything was a hit for me, I would definitely come back and give this bakery another chance, especially since we arrived so late and missed out on many of their most popular items.

The yuzu curd is not too sweet, they really lean into the sour so it balances out the sweet bun nicely. The pandan bun is like nothing I've EVER had. It's the strongest pandan flavored anything I've ever had. You can smell the pandan before you even bite into it. I wished there was more meringue -- perhaps having a layer of meringue in the center would have made it absolutely superb! Brown Butter Mochi Bites -- These were alright, but nothing particularly special. They were missing the signature mochi chewy texture, so they didn't quite feel "mochi" enough to truly be called mochi bites. Sesame Cookie -- Unfortunately, it was too hard and crisp for my liking. Crossubi -- A very unique concept and not bad overall. I just wish the interior wasn't quite as hollow; a little more filling would have elevated it.
