Fournee often has a very long line, but some random weekend mornings, there's no line...and you should definitely jump on the opportunity! The line can be quite long, around the corner which can be quite a wait. My favorites are the cheese bread, croissant, chocolate croissant and ham and cheese croissant....but there are also tons of other delicious goodies there; I just have to stop myself from ordering everything. Small bakery front where you order to go. Fresh baked daily, they offer yummy bread, pastries, and I think cake by special order. Right next to Peet's, a perfect day would be pastry and coffee. I really enjoy this bakery. It's situated right next to the Clermont Hotel and features a cute outdoor area shared with several other small businesses. They don't offer indoor seating, but the outdoor is so pleasant even on sunny winter day. My favorites are their plain and almond croissants. This weekend, I tried their scones for the first time, but they were disappointingly dry and lacked exciting flavor. I also had a plain croissant, which was unexpectedly dry. This place makes the absolute BEST Fougasse! It is olive-y the duck fat it's made with makes it, crisp, light, and perfectly moist. The crusty outside is lightly salted to perfection. Their pastries are also exquisite, I haven't had anything I didn't like, but I ALWAYS come for the Fougasse! We tried the Panettone, Farmers Bread Loaf, Gougere, Currant Scone, and Canele. The farmers bread was so fluffy and good. I loved the crust it had as well as the fluffy texture. When heated up, it was amazing. The Panettone was delicious. Highlight of the night. All of the layers of fruit and chocolate was amazing the the crust was even better. I loved the almond and coco glaze. The inclusion of oats was great and gave it good texture. The current scone was a good one too. Not too sweet and full of flavor. I love the crisp edges and soft interior. I was not a big fan of the canele or the gougere. They were both too eggy for my liking but they were still decent! read more

Best croissants and pastries in the area. I ordered the Pain au Chocolat, Ham & Egg Croissant, and Almond Croissant. The Pain au Chocolat was crispy and soft -- made perfectly with several layers. The chocolate was also very rich. The Ham & Egg Croissant was my favorite since I prefer savory over sweet. The rosemary ham was really unique and the flavor meshed perfectly with the egg croissant. The almond croissant was better than the Pain au Chocolat. The outside was crispy and inside had a perfect filling. Normally I find the fillings to be overly sweet but Fournée mastered the filling. It's a small bakery with a lot of variety. I hope to try every pastry at the bakery! Definitely recommend. There is a line so try to get there early. read more

I moved to east bay recently and Fournee is absolutely my favorite bakery in the area. I work a few minutes away, so I usually head there during a break on Wednesday around 10-11am. I'm not sure if they slow down later in the day, but there is definitely still a line at what I would consider an "off time". The line moves pretty fast, but it is a small place, so you'll spend most of the time waiting outside. Everyone who works there is super friendly. The pastries aren't cheap, but I doubt cheap bakeries exist in the area. Most items average $5. My favorites are the almond croissant, the egg and ham croissant, and the ham and manchego sandwich. I'll also try their various tarts every now and then. I've never ordered anything I didn't like. Their almond croissant is probably the best I've ever had. read more

I stopped by on a Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. after a hike in the Oakland hills and there was a line that wrapped around the block. Parking is definitely a bit hard to find in the area and the line moves pretty slowly so plan accordingly. The pastries here are top notch. My wife and I got the olive loaf, a gougère, veggie croissant, and ham and cheese croissant. The croissant here are buttery and flakey, just as a perfect croissant should be. The last time I had a croissant of this quality was at Arsicault Bakery in San Francisco. The olive loaf has great flavor and is deliciously moist throughout. If you enjoy olives, you will love the loaf. The staff was nice when it came to placing my order, pricing is fair, and overall, l would definitely stop by again if I'm looking for the perfect croissant. I drive in from Diablo Valley for my fix. Love the Walnut Levain and that they sell a half. A stranger was sitting next to me at a sushi bar and we started trading foodie recommendations; the guy told me Fournée is a must. As someone's whose favorite place to eat croissants is Arsicault, you bet I had high hopes for this place because I've been told it's the "East Bay equivalent". I can't say that it matches Arsicault, but it does the job and probs my preferred one in East Bay if i'm feeling lazy and don't want to cross the bridge. A few notes: 1. This place has a line! We came on Friday morning and waited maybe 10 min? It moves fast but try and come here early if you want to gurantee first picks! 2. They do pick ups - you can call and order in and you can skip the line What we got: 1. Ham & cheese croissant - it isn't as airy as the Arsicault ones but the flavors are definitely just as good. The croissant here almost feels like the butter layers inside are more crispy? 2. Special croissant - I would skip this solely because I didn't like the flavor profile (so this is a personal choice) 3. Morning bun - great layer and perfect sweetness. This is definitely a returner! Overall, I'm glad this place is around and wish I came here sooner when I was in college! I absolutely hate waiting in line, but I'd gladly wait in line for this bakery all over again *_* I came on a Saturday morning and the line wrapped around the corner! There isn't much parking in this area, but we luckily found parking across the street. Our wait was maybe 15-20 min? It smelled SO delish as soon as I stepped inside. Oftentimes my eyes are bigger than my tummy, so I wanted to order EVERYTHING. But I had to stop myself! We ended up ordering savory and sweet items: -Morning bun - I'm not toooo much of a sweet pastry person, but this was so fluffy and good. -Chocolate almond croissant - I snacked on this throughout the day. It was so rich and decadent. Even when I full, I didn't want to put it down -Ham and manchego croissant - this was hands down my favorite, so flaky, so full of flavor. The only thing that would have made it better was if it was warmed up -Gougere -- cheese roll? not sure, this wasn't my favorite. I love bread but this was too much for me. Great bakery! Got here a few minutes before they opened on a Saturday morning and there is a line of people awaiting for 8am opening - and for good reason! Luckily once they open the line goes pretty quickly. You can also preorder the day before and just go right in to pick up. Even before they opened their doors, the smell of amazing baked goods (mmm...butter) is strong. The inside is cozy and the pastries all look so good - some of the flakiest croissants you'll find in the Bay Area. We got a ham and manchego croissant and a egg and ham croissant - two different but both awesome experience! The ham and manchego is so buttery and flakey and somehow also moist on the inside. And when we got it, it was still warm - It's peak croissant goodness! The egg and ham is super interesting because it's croissant wrapped around ham that's wrapped around a whole hard boiled egg. It's super interesting and tasty - and very filling as well. We also got a chocolate croissant to share and it was super flakey as well - delicious! There is no parking lot and also not a lot of street parking so it can be tough - but totally worth it! read more

Croissant was pretty good, not very flaky, flavor was very good: buttery, slightly sweet while mildly salted, and the lamination was not collapsed with large pockets, no gooey spots at all. 3.8/5 but I need to try another one closer to the time it came out of the oven Baguette had a thicker crust and the inside is not light, more on the dense side. I was hoping for better. Fruit tart is well balanced pastry bottom with oat crumb top. A few different fruits were used to make this (red berries mostly). I really enjoyed this. The texture was dense and they maintain a slight tart of some of the berry amidst the sweet. 5 stars for the best croissant west of Paris. There are many excellent bakeries within The City with Tartine as a top notch option. I give Fournee the edge based on the crisp texture and flavor. The exterior is almost glass like in how it flakes and the center pulls apart like a cloud of buttery goodness. This is my last meal death sentence croissant and I stand by that along with this place called Sparrow Bakery in Bend OR. Now I've never had their quiches but I hear they are also outstanding. Good pastries, not so great sandwich. There was a line out the door, but it moved fairly quickly. I got a croissant, which was really flaky and light and had a buttery flavor. The chocolate chip oat cookie was also good, rich but with good flavor from the quality chocolate chips. The disappointment was the veggie sandwich. I should have read the ingredients more closely, but it was a flavorless baguette with goat cheese spread and roasted peppers, not much filling and just a lot of the bread. It didn't taste that great. I'd go back here for the sweet pastries though, and I'm sure some of the other breads are good. read more

They had a great pastry selection and were out of a few items (the quiche and croque madam), but still had a ton to choose from. We ended up getting an almond croissant (amazing), chocolate croissant (phenom), cheese bread (not my favorite but very good), gougere (I really liked it, my friends didn't as much), and ham and cheese croissant (delicious). An East Bay treasure for baked goods but be sure to be patient and go early for best selection on the fly. Time and patience are definitely a necessity visiting here, especially on weekends. Customers lining out the door and playing musical chairs for the few street-level parking spots directly in front are to be expected. Employees are more than preoccupied so if you have a phoned in pick-up order made and paid in advance, you will have to wait as well but not as long as the walk-in line at least. But the wait is well worth it as you will have the freshest breads and the flakiest of croissants. Tell your nutritionist they're a push over and the diet to kick rocks while you're here. I highly suggest their egg & ham croissant and quiche lorraine. Many overlook the parking lot at the rear of the building so I suggest parking there instead. read more
