Car was not available when I showed up. Was late due to a flight delay. When calling about delay phone message says that vehicle will be held fo 12hr. My delay was about 3 hrs. Was told the class of car that Irented was not available but I could "upgrade" but I would be charged a fee for the "upgraded" vehicle. The upgraded vehicle available was a hyundai santa fe, while not a bad vehicle, my rental was for a premium vehicle. But still needing a vehicle, I "upgraded". While walking to my vehicle, I happened to see a vehicle in the fox area that was described in rental site as the class of vehicle that I had rented. Any ways, I was not the only customer in this situation. Seems like very shady practice for a business. I will not be renting from them again and suggest you do not as well. read more

I'm only giving two stars because the guy who helped with my reservation when I arrived was extremely friendly and helpful, I didn't get his name but he was the black guy at the front checking in the reservations. The rental itself was a piece of crap. It was in horrible shape. Dents everywhere, one of the emblems was missing, just a really bad rental. Whenever I would broach 70 miles per hour or higher, it would shake violently. That was great. I didn't purchase the insurance because I have full coverage insurance but I did purchase the toll pass which was about $12 extra per day. It was worth it, it gave me peace of mind and I did end up traveling down the highway with a ton of tolls. When I returned the vehicle I noticed the lady did not inspect the vehicle, she only looked at the gas and mileage. She says " you're fine, you'll get an email with the receipt. Upon checking the receipt, at the very bottom it stated "closed rental subject to final audit." So I approached her-Felicia, about this and said what's this about, I want the final audit done while I'm here, she got defensive and had an attitude, so I went down to the desk where I initially rented the vehicle from. I was told that means in a couple days if they happen to find something I could be charged for it down the line. My question is why not inspect the vehicle while I'm here, and close the rental While I'm here. So finally the Operations Manager Jocelyn came down, and I explained my concerns, and she told me once I get the receipt, the rental is closed. Well that is directly contradicting what the receipt says. Seems like a way to hook customers down the line. I'm happy I payed attention to that. So they rent you a beaut up vehicle to begin with and then say well down the line if we find any issues, we can charge you. No, never will I rent from this service again. I don't mind paying a little extra to not have to deal with a piece of crap car, and questionable business practices. read more

Made a reservation through Priceline and picked Fox since it was the cheapest. I should have looked at their reviews first, so this falls on me. The Good They ran out of some cars so they were giving out minivans. I didn't get the type of vehicle I reserved but I got something, so I'm considering this a good. Meh My vehicle was a Dodge Caravan with 70,000 miles, and guess what, it drove like a Dodge with 70,000 miles. Some of you will know what I mean. The Bad 1. Rental Counter - this process shouldn't take so long. I was 3rd in line and it took over 45 minutes just to get to the counter. If you're in a hurry then this will not work for you. 2. Vehicle pickup - customer interaction could be improved here. The person in the garage booth just mumbled something and gave me the keys. I had to ask him to repeat himself only to have him mumble again. After waiting so long for a car I didn't care what he was saying. I nodded and left. 3. Vehicle return - customer interaction could be improved here also. This time there were 3 people in the booth but none of them came out as I pulled up. I'm used to someone coming out to inspect the car and give me a receipt, but these guys barely acknowledged me. I parked, stood outside for a bit thinking they'll come out. When I realized they weren't coming out I walked up to the booth, handed them the keys and left. That was the extent of our interaction. The Horrible Administrative fees for tolls - I didn't get their toll pass since I wouldn't hit any tolls where I was going. Well, I ended up going to Typhoon Texas Waterpark outside Austin and hit 2 tolls getting there and 2 tolls coming back for a total of $7.22. I fully expected to pay the toll charges plus the customary administrative fees that the rental agencies charge. The other agencies charge a nominal admin fee of about $5 per toll charge, and not to exceed about $24 per rental period (depending on the agency). These prices are not a big deal and I fully expected to pay something like this. Well, not Fox. They charge an administrative fee of $15 per toll charge, for a total of $60 for the 4 tolls. So my $7.22 tolls ended up costing $67.22. This is straight up fleecing the customer. In hindsight, I could have selected the rental agency with the highest Priceline quote and still come out ahead. Long story short (because it's not very exciting to begin with) we reserved a car appropriate for our group of 5 plus luggage. We arrive on schedule and lo and behold the car (or one comparable) is not available. We are offered a discount for the inconvenience but the discounted car simply isn't big enough, so that's not even an option. We find another car in the lot that will fit everyone but now the price is back up because that car is "an upgrade." Here's my point - it's NOT an upgrade when it's the only vehicle on your lot that can fit us. When I actually show up the guy behind the counter, Chris, I belive his name was, was unsympathetic and no help. The Latino guy. He says I need your id and credit card. I figured since it was already prepaid with my debit card through priceline it was a simple formality. He say sarcastically, "No, papi, That's a debit card." like I am an idiot or something. 1. I'm not your papi. 2. It was already prepaid. He tells me I need to contact priceline for a refund. And then he says there are no cars available anyway so it would have been a long wait. After reading the reviews - I was horrified to have rented a car from here. My husband and I didn't check reviews before hand and we were pretty worried. But, it was too late to change our rental. We had paid for our car ahead of time using a credit card - including the $150 deposit required on credit card. I honestly think this made the process easier for us. The only thing we had to pay for was an underage driver fee (my husband is 24) which was frustrating because the only reason we had chosen Fox was because they weren't charging us that online. We turned down the toll pass and insurance paper. In the end, both were a good call. We were able to go from Austin, to San Antonio, to Houston (and back in reverse order) without crossing one toll. We did not get the car we booked - which sounds like is pretty normal at Fox. We had booked a small sedan and ended up with a midsize vehicle. We weren't up-charged for this and it didn't affect our trip. Our vehicle was clean, with some dents and scratches along it. We returned our car an hour early because we read some reviews that people were charged for being late - even when they had been in line before their car was due back. It took us about 5 minutes to return it and was pretty simple. The employees themselves were not the nicest. I wouldn't say we had a bad experience with any of them but I did overhear them being very rude to other customers. Overall, we had a good experience at Fox. We definitely wouldn't use them again though, as the company does seem pretty scammy and I think we lucked out with a good experience. If you have a confirmation email/ code etc from this company apparently it does NOT mean confirmation in their vocabulary !!! I was left stranded at Austin Airport after a weekend planned trip after I made these specific plans step by step prior to arrival, to ensure that I was completely prepared for my trip. They stated my ID would not scan with their system after I just went through TSA which is monitored by homeland security. So the government scanner works but not yours ? They would not take a picture or put my ID information in their computer . The man was nice enough at the desk, but stated there was nothing he could do and told me to go to another competitor ( which was extremely expensive at that point). I hope that people not familiar with the Austin area do not come in thinking this is a guarantee. I would recommend booking with another car company or bringing a passport . read more

Please everyone I warn you this is some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. They double booked my car, in frustration the manager and I both got heated in the moment.. At the end the manager basically said get out of here go take your business somewhere else and ordered me to leave.. Quite possibly the best example of how NOT to run a business. That being said I discovered why they were the cheapest option while renting a car at the Austin airport. Our story starts with our flight being delayed thus getting our luggage took longer. Then we had to pull our luggage another 1/4 mile to the car rental center. There we found all car rental counters open EXCEPT Fox. So we waited in line at an adjacent car rental business. When we finally got to the counter we were told that only person working for Fox would be upstairs in a small kiosk. So now we drag our luggage upstairs to discover that the gal manning the kiosk has decided to close shop five minutes earlier. Now we are screwed! Since we can't get our rental car we are forced to find a local motel for the night. So it's back downstairs and another 1/4 mile to the ride share area. We came back early the next morning to get the van we should have gotten the day before. The van itself was substandard. It had 37,000 miles on it and showed it. The van was never washed or cleaned inside as we found old french fries and food wrappers in the van. The carpet in the rear storage area was peeled up and the insulation clearly visible. Operationally the right front wheel was out of balance and the van itself pulled to the right so the alignment was out of whack! Since Fox cost me an extra night I drove the van to McKinney and back like I stole it! In closing, my advise is to use anyone BUT Fox for your vehicle rental needs. Unless you are cast members from MTV's Jackass and are looking for a good beater to thrash on. read more

I'm not sure why this place is getting a bad rap, I had no problem with the process. The check in process was a breeze, there were a line, so I had to wait for a bit. The questions they asked were standard. I think the whole process took about 5 mins. The only reason I think it took longer than my other pickups is because they spend their time explaining the Toll tags, which I already know. The car parked on the 2nd floor, picking up was easy. I reserved a economic size, but I end up with a Jeep. I'm not a fan of the car because it isn't fuel efficient, and the interior is very basic, but that's the problem with American cars made in foreign countries (Chrysler). I would've preferred Foreign cars that is made in the US (Toyota). But this isn't Fox's issue, its known that American cars looks nice from the outside, but cheap in the inside. I highly recommend reserving online before you get to your rental destination - it will save you a lot of time and confusion! The only bummer I had here was that I'd reserved an economy car and got "upgraded" to a full-size Camry. It was a beautiful car, but I'm a fan of the little scoot-alongs. No problems, though, she drove fantastically. They also never emailed me my receipt, which they said they'd do since they were having issues with their printer. Oh well. There should be no reason to reserve at this company or location (not my first bad experience with company;different locations) as they don't ever have the vehicle you reserved available. This go around was mainly to give the company a second chance. The lady at front was very helpful to the 3 customers ahead of me, so helpful she gave them the last of the vehicles I reserved. When I got to the desk she let me know they had no more Kia sportage or like vehicles (lady in front got asthma one since her reserved vehicle was not available). So she gave me a 20% discount to take another smaller vehicle or pay more to get a wrangler. The discount should have been 50%at a minimum for what the vehicle looked like. I've received not perfect vehicles before, but this was ridiculous! I asked if the vehicle was going to get cleaned, Derrell at the car area, looked at me and sai," it's clean." Completely POOR service/experiance at Fox!! I placed a reservation to be picked up at 8pm only to arrive to closed doors. Which they have already taken $150 for a deposit. You can't call them because the automated service hangs up in your face to try to get some assitance. After finally finding a different number to speak to a represantive only to be told to come back next day at 9am to get this vehicle or call the billing department on Monday (this rental time was for 8pm on Saturday). We call back at 9am Sunday next day for assitance only to be told lies and get the runaround. Such as "This reservation has expired". The second you try to ask for a manager they will hang up in your face. This is a complete inconvenience for my finances and my time for my trip. Policy states that you can't receive refund for a cancellation. This is not a cancellation. I want a refund for a service that wasn't provided upon my arrival. How can you be a paying customer and receive no type of customer service, no sympathy, and no empathy. Are they even trying to help people or just make money? She explained to me that they were almost out of cars and she was trying to do what she could. This woman was the best part of the entire experience. I could tell she was truly doing the best should could. I had reserved an SUV. All she had left was a super small compact or a minivan. I took the minivan. I noticed there was a decent amount of cosmetic damage on the outside. As I just wanted to get to my destination I drove off. As I was leaving the airport I realized the car had not been cleaned. There was food and spilled drinks inside the car. I attempted to call customer service that night three times but my call got dropped after over 30 mins on hold. I emailed the next day. Booked through Expedia and was lured in by the price. I had checked with the major car rentals and the prices were ridiculous so I booked through Fox. Check in line moved pretty fast and the gentleman helping us out was very friendly and very helpful and explained we would not need to get a toll pass when I told him where we were going. Pick up and drop off were very easy. I was a little surprised there was not more detail when checking out. They do not look around the car with you and document all the nicks and scratches, we did that on a little diagram. There were many so we documented all of them. The girl said if it was not bigger than 4 inches they didn't care. The interior was dirty and there were stains, but it was not terrible. We also rented a booster seat. Drop off was pretty easy and was quick. I would use again. For what we got, it was a decent deal. read more

After debating he advised me that his manager allowed him to honor price. Agent Morgan stated he had to get me a different upgrade car and the price would be more but I would get a $150 credit after returning my car. I have waited and contacted Fox and no response- I was charged $615 and no credit was given. I initially reserved the car for 4 days, but due to a blizzard in Chicago (where I had a connecting flight), had to change my return flight and return the rental car 1 day early. I contacted Rentalcars.com to request a refund and they informed me that I must contact Fox Rent A Car -- the dealer at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport -- where I picked up the car. I contacted Fox Rent A Car and they informed me that I must contact Rentalcars.com. Despite having rented cars on every continent over my lifetime, I was nearly denied a car at this location for the most breathtakingly stupid reason imaginable. The credit card I attempted to use (the one I've used for decades for almost all rentals) is embossed with my name "Chris K Honore" (last name changed for privacy). My drivers license has my formal birth name of Christopher Kevin Honore. Since the two did not match (Chris" as opposed to "Christopher"), the representative behind the counter rudely threatened to deny me a car and cancel my reservation unless I produced a card that exactly matched my drivers license. Only one of my five credit/debit cards does so, and fortunately I had it on my person. When confronted about the absurdity about this, she brusquely asserted that this was "standard practice around the world", at which time I informed her my last rental was ten days ago in Paris, France and five days prior to that I rented a car in Dublin, Ireland, both seamlessly, just like every rental I've had in the 36 years since I turned 18. Warning: If your name is Pamela Schnellenbarger or Samuel Carondanellissi or Jonathon Breylonstater, your credit cards are probably embossed with "Pam", "Sam", or "Jon", since space likely does not permit your full first name appearing on the card. In that case, wander over to the dozen of other rental agencies within the same facility. No sense wasting your time with Fox, as their employees exhibit a distinct and alarming lack of common sense. Avoid Fox Rental Car at all costs. [update] I spoke with an attorney friend of mine. His comments are edited for clarity. "Obviously, a business may implement any policy they choose so long as it doesn't run afoul of other existing laws. Unfortunately, policies are often misinterpreted, misunderstood, or abused by employees. In your case, you were physically present holding a government-issued photo ID and a credit card with an abbreviated first name and matching last name. The law holds that it can reasonably and rationally presumed that under the circumstances, you, the license reading Christopher Honore, and the credit card reading Chris Honore are all one in the same. Fox wasn't bound to accept your card and no crime was committed - stupidity is not a crime - but, why would you subject yourself to that hassle when no other rental counter would ever dream of denying you a vehicle under such ridiculous reasoning?" [update #2] Following a golf outing and while at the "19 Hole" (an obviously informal affair involving two attorneys, a mid-level executive, and myself), the executive - who was privy to my comical incident- raised a scenario that was eerily logical. For the record, this is not an accusation, a conspiracy theory, or even speculation as to what actually occurred. It is merely food for thought. Say that a fictional person by the name of Alexander William McDonaldson reserves and pays for a Fox vehicle on line. Cancellation policies are typically clear, and cancelling a reservation on very short notice usually results in the total forfeiture of the rental cost. Upon presenting a valid drivers license upon arrival, it displays his full legal name, as is required by law. Alexander William McDonaldson. His credit card, however, to be used for deposit purposes, reads "Alex McDonaldson" or "A. W. McDonaldson". At that point, the VP pulled out his own American Express card (as we other three did) only to find that none of us had our full, lengthy birth-given first names on our cards. The font size, to be readable without glasses or a magnifying glass, prevents it. The inference is that our poor Mr. McDonaldson did not have a card embossed with "Alexander" and was denied a rental with no refund and is forced to go elsewhere (and good luck ever getting a refund). The car is then rented to someone else, thereby creating a "two-for-one" in terms of revenue and making the location's numbers look better. Prohibiting the use of a credit card with an entirely different name (first, and especially last) from the license or reservation is understandable. But this is not the case here. If this is a scam (a huge IF), then it calls into question the integrity and credibility of everything Fox Rental Car does. My emphatic recommendation is to STAY AWAY. read more

Overall not bad - they upgraded our car for $10/day instead of the standard $14.99. So we got an SUV Sized Chevy instead of a 4 door, full size sedan. The only reason for 3 stars instead of 2 was that we inadvertently went on a toll road for about 1 minute during our drive. It was a total accident and the gps oddly routed us off the freeway...and then back on. I feel like these cars should have fast track embedded and then there should be an option to pay using that. Instead we figured we would pay a toll to a person. But no, they just snapped a pic of our car. When we got back to return our car, we were told it would be a $15 charge plus the $1.50 toll. When we explained how little time we were on the toll, they didn't care. I do believe there should be a one time grace/forgiveness situation. If we had gone through multiple tolls for multiple miles, I would understand but we were on the road for less than 1 mile. Fox should have been able to absorb that $1.50 and/or outlined the toll information when we rented the car. The three stars are more of a rating of Fox overall, not necessarily the employees at this location. Not sure if I will rent from Fox again, but I would like to because their prices are usually great. read more

After traveling all day, I went to pick up my reservation and was told they are totally sold out of cars and they had canceled my reservation because I was "late." (I was not late. My flight landed early due to good tail wind.) There were no more cars. I might overlook the fact I had a reservation and showed up to no car and zero plan to compensate for their mistake, but I find it unprofessional that they tried to blame me for their poor management. I was not late. The manager suggested, "Try our competitor, Hertz, they might have a car." (They did. A compact for 234.00 for a single day. I guess Austin was having a rental car shortage.) Do yourself a favor. Spend the extra five dollars a day and get a reputable rental car service. read more

The issue is, I've had my rental for 5 days (supposed to be for a week) and after only 2 days, the check engine light came on on the car I received. If I wanted a check engine light on, I'd drive my own car. Another issue is that the car had a list of problems on a print out and there were still damages that I noticed that I needed to add upon pick up, but unfortunately, there was no option to add those damages because there's no checkout person to speak with. I saw a great rate of $19 a day on Expedia for a small SUV. I reserved and paid on Expedia, the total coming to around $300 and change for a two week rental. I arrived at the counter to find out that it's a scam. They require that you pay either for a very expensive toll pass, and if you don't get the very expensive toll pass, you have to pay them $20 for every toll camera that you go through! I needed the car and was forced to pay $180 for their toll pass. And even if you have your own toll pass and put it into the rental, they still don't allow that! So it's an obvious cash grab and a scam. They will never ever ever ever ever get my business again. read more

My wife and I went to Austin for my brothers wedding on 5/6/22 (4:45pm). We made our reservations two months in advance. We called the 800 number for customer service to verify the reservation and payment methods excepted by the company. Which she settled with one CC for deposit one CC for payment. Customer service said the needed one CC on file for deposit and it didn't matter how your payment was made . We called two time to be sure , once after we made the reservation and once the day before we left. Well the kid with gages in his ear at the counter that helped us said we were miss informed and we could not do this payment arrangement and their was nothing he could do at all for us. No supervisor nothing. We scrambled to call the 800 number again furious. Again we were told we could pay with one CC for deposit and one CC for payment but this time it was for the internet booking (that we did to begin with)only. So we did that and again the kid at the counter said no we couldn't go through with the rental. We gave up got an Uber . We will never call fox rent a car ever again. If you need a rental car go elsewhere....piss poor customer service. Kid wouldn't even call the 800 number or talk to them when we were on the phone with them or get a supervisor. Surprisingly I had a totally problem-free experience renting a car with fox. They honored the rate I paid on their website, which was about half the rate everyone else was charging. During coronavirus era, there was no waiting in line except maybe 5-10 minutes I waited while returning for a receipt. I declined everything (set google to avoid toll roads and had bought a ktag online beforehand just in case to avoid the $15 per toll that fox charges). They didn't pressure me to accept anything. I don't doubt that they are not great overall, but my experience was about as good as it could be. read more
