Ridiculous that you can reserve it on the website but when you get to the counter, they all of a sudden don't have any available. Why would you be able to make a reservation and then not have a car for us? Customer service was no help either, as she acted like we were a bother for us and didn't have a solution. The tires have four different air pressures; the engine inexplicably would shut off, fail to unlock, fail to lock, start and stop. It was an unholy mess. At the first we were very skeptical because of the low ratings. All the rental car companies are pretty much all the same so we thought. I liked that Fox had the lowest prices compared to Avis or other places. We booked the car online and the check-in process was smooth. The only complaint is that we would not have added the minimum coverage (about $100?) had the gentleman asked us again, but I get that it's a sales tactics so we were OK with that. We didn't not add any toll pass because we used google maps in Texas and there's a setting you can enable to avoid Tolls. The rental car process was seamless and fast. We got our receipt in the email within minutes after returning the car. The only other suggestion I would say is they need to clean their car (in the backseats) more thoroughly. DO NOT USE FOX. **NOT** WORTH THE FEW DOLLAR YOU SAVE. I needed a rent car for a week, and decided to go to ABIA to get it, saving $10-$13 a day. FOX came up on Travelocity at $260 for 7 days or about $40 per day (compared to $50 at Enterprise.) Not huge, but OK. First clue: When I arrived at the airport, the BUDGET line next to me had 20 people in it. The FOX line was empty - I was the only customer. The Fox guy asked me if I wanted the Tolls Package for $11 a day, and I said "No. I will avoid the Tolls." He then proceeded to charge me a $500 security deposit. Enterprise charges $300. Returned the car 2 weeks ago. Today, I get a notice from "FOX/ ATS Processing Services." I went through 4 toll cameras on 183, right by the airport. The guy could have warned me to avoid them. But fine. I can live with $8 in tolls. BUT THEN, I SEE THIS $75 DOLLAR PROCESSING FEE on the notice (see picture). Total $83.91. So, hey, they got another $12/day out of me after all. For $50 a day I could have rented from Enterprise near my house. **NOT KNOWING** THEY WILL CHARGE $11 PER DAY FOR A "TOLLS PACKAGE" UNTIL YOU ARRIVE IS WRONG. CLEARLY, THIS IS THE **WRONG WAY** TO GENERATE EXTRA INCOME FROM YOUR CUSTOMERS . When I called FOX to complain, the lady said I had to talk to ATS. A lot of good that would do. Read this first before renting a car from this Fox location. I'm going to provide suggestions on how to navigate the rental process at Fox so you can decide if the risk is worth the lower price. In my case it ended up ok.....sorta Fox is the lowest rated car rental agency at the Austin Airport. The yelp reviews scared the hell out of me (dirty cars, cars with over 60k miles, owner's personal car being rented out, no cars, wrong cars etc etc). But Fox was the lowest priced option and all the other rental agencies at the Austin Airport had low ratings. Staff - Umm, there are two groups of employees that work at Fox. Those that work the front desk, and those that work upstairs where the cars are located. I can tell you from experience that it's an "us vs. them" relationship between the two. The front desk could use some polish for sure. Unless you engage with them on a personal note, they're very robotic. Apparently, there's a lot of employee turnaround at Fox. You're not going to get a hello here, or any emotion or questions about your trip. I can see how some people might perceive them as rude. Booking - So don't expect the car or car class that you ordered online to be available when you arrive at the airport. Fox only makes sure that "a" car is reserved for you. You get what they have on hand. In my case, I ordered (and paid for) a standard class car, but as it turns out I got a 2021 Kia Forte ( compact car). Of course they didn't tell me that I was downgraded, and they didn't refund me the difference. I found this out AFTER I got back from my trip. The good news is that I got a car, albeit a Kia, and it was a NEW one ( 3000k miles). I put over 600 miles on that car during my rental and I loved it. The moral of the story is that If you don't get the car you ordered don't let that ruin your trip. Other reviewers didn't get a car at all or got the "beat-up Priceline car"... On a side note, we arrived about 4:30 PM and only Fox and Hertz were staffed with employees. No mater who you chose to book with, make sure you pre-book. Several walk-ins were told " All sold out".. Upsells - You will be hit with two upsells.. This is VERY important so listen up. All rental agencies will try and sell you insurance ( even though you already have it for your own car at home). You don't need to purchase any additional insurance. But the devil is in the details at Fox. They will ask you if you want to purchase a mandatory state "proof of liability insurance" document. This caught me off guard at first, but I quickly realized that it's just the paper of proof of insurance that you use in your own state. BE SURE TO BRING this document with you on the trip... It is the law to have it, and it doesn't have to be from Texas. But if you forgot, you could possibly get a ticket if caught without it. It costs $20 a day for Fox's insurance and that precious proof of insurance document. The toll road pass. I'm the type of person that rarely buys upsells and extended warranties. I didn't buy the toll pass because I trusted Google Maps and I'd never use the toll road enough to justify the daily fees. *RANT ALERT* California does a lot of things wrong, but they're far superior to Texas when it comes to toll roads. You really have no clue in Texas how much a toll road costs because it's hidden, and if you accidentally turn onto a toll road offramp it's extremely confusing and difficult to get off before being charged if it was a mistake. I assumed Google Maps would never put me on a toll road when I selected "avoid toll roads" but that's not always the case. Every time Google reported heavy traffic it would try and redirect me to a highway that ended up being a toll road. I had to use extreme measures to get off of them immediately. The stress wasn't worth it. That being said, you're probably better off not buying it unless you're traveling all over the city looking for homes. Costs about $12 day to rent the pass. Toll Road Tip - Stay on the 35 and use the 71 when traveling to and from the airport to avoid tolls. Pros - Cheapest rentals by far at the airport (Fox was about 30-70% less than everyone else). It appears they're no longer renting rehashed (50k mile cars). When I early drop-offed my car at 5AM, there was already a long line of early drop-offs and they were all new cars and Jeeps. My car was immaculately clean. Cons - If you're paying with Debit Card (or a Debit/Visa card) they will take out $400 as a deposit ( Fox policy). That's outrageous. I was so lucky that I brought a pure Credit Card for emergency purposes. You should too. Crazy amount of Taxes and Fees added to the bill from the city, county and state. read more

Terrible experience with Fox Rent A Car. We reserved a car through Priceline.com. When we arrived to pick up the car Fox stated that my credit card would not go through. We had already paid for the rental. I called my credit card company while with Fox, who stated that there were no declined or pending charges so they were unsure as to why my credit card was not working. Fox stated that I would need to make a whole new reservation and upcharged me an extra $100. When it was all settled, they sent us out to the parking lot to "pick a car". Car smelled like THC and had a loud squeak coming from the back end the week that we had it. When we returned the car, there was no walk through or anything, the guy just said leave the keys in it and we could be on our way. I prefer a walk through/around at drop off to ensure there are no "surprise" damages or anything we could get blamed for. TERRIBLE experience with Fox Rent A Car. 10/10 do NOT recommend. There was either vomit or food between the driver's side rear seat and door jamb, the front tire was a donut, the interior door handles were falling off. Do not use Fox Rent A Car! We flew into Austin late on Christmas Day 2024. We were tired and ready to go to our airbnb. Turns out, Fox did not have a car for us. Yes, we had a reservation but no car. Did Fox offer any help or comfort at all? No. It was basically, "sorry about your luck, hope you find something else." We're standing there with a cart full of luggage, carrying a sleeping 4 year old at 11:30 pm on Christmas night. We ended up getting a $50 uber to our rental and had to find another rental the next day. No customer service from Fox. This company sucks and if you rent from them, best make a backup plan or bring your walking shoes, cuz chances are you wont be driving anywhere. read more

I was overcharged under the guise of a deposit, which was verbally explained as something that would later be removed. Spent over $500 for a weekend vehicle by doubling up on a payment I had already made with Expedia. I called customer service to directly resolve the issue only to be told after a long wait that the charges could not be refunded. Save yourself the headache from dealing with this incredibly shady company and choose someone else. As shown by management below, they do not care about the practice of misleading customers verbally so long as they get your signature. READ THIS REVIEW & DO NOT RENT FROM HERE: There are so many bad reviews when it comes to car rental companies but FOX is truly beyond sketch and it makes sense why the price is cheaper. I have never written a bad review for a car rental company until now. We rented a car from here and shortly after driving it on our trip we noticed a massive bulge in the wall of the tire (it could have popped any second). Thankfully we noticed it before it caused a massive car accident by popping on the interstate while it was pitch black. Due to the late hours of the night and limited options, we had to get a used tire for the car which was $260 (for the cheapest one) then we had to get another tire on the car towards the end of our trip for another $260 to replace that one. All because we received a damaged car from the beginning. So on December 21st, 2024 we called the help desk who sent us to roadside assistance who sent us to billing and they told us they would reimburse us since its a safety issue they created and they did not check the car before renting it to us (there was no quality check done). They told us to talk to the local office when returning it and we would get our money back for the purchased tires. Also worth noting we called them on the 26th and 27th as well.  When we returned the car, Christina (The manager) was being super difficult but said they would send our receipts to management. So we sent them early January along with all the details. No response, after several calls and 4 emails Felecia Garrett responded to tell us there was nothing she could do and that she gave it to Christina. We were not allowed to have Christina's phone number or email address so there is no way to follow up. What else do you do?  So we call Billing again (this is now Feb 7th, 2025) who tells us there is nothing they can do and to call the store... but the store isn't responding or answering? There is no communication from billing with their offices or help desk. Billing said they didn't even have a phone number for the stores and when asking for the manager, they said there was no manager in their office. How is there no manager? She reassured us there was no one else to talk to but her. So if you have a life threatening issue with the car, there is no way to get help or assistance. Also, I really hope no one had an orange Nissan mid sized car after us because it absolutely has a life threatening issue with it. read more

The car was fine but Fox advertised $17 per day when the real price was over $35 per day. When a company misrepresents their prices it wastes the customer's time and erodes trust in the company. Then after the trip I discovered that we were charged a $15 administrative fee by Fox every time we went by a toll camera/station in addition to the toll charge. I was promised a rental for $317.56 and then a few charges were additional like Platepass, Fuel, etc but the charge ended up way more than what was promised, I was charged $843.25. I am not sure how it gets from 317 to 243 that's almost three times the cost. Additionally, I picked up the car at 11 pm and dropped it off at 5 am, I was charged Platepass for both these days as well. The guys at the rental facility didn't even move from their chairs, they didn't come along while inspecting the car, they told me to inspect the car and come back and then drop the inspection sheet and they were just sitting there. I was also told I will be refunded for the one-day booking that I had done in error and I was told they wouldn't refund it. My daughter made an online reservation for a vehicle which was a total of $437. She picked up the vehicle at the airport as she was arriving before me. Today, when I speak with her she tells me that the total is $827.77! You can imagine my outrage!! On vacation from Buffalo, NY and rented a car through Fox. Sierra was wonderful and handled my customer service beautifully. I had originally reserved an SUV but decided to treat myself at the last minute and upgraded to a four-door Jeep Wrangler. This threw a little bit of a curveball at the customer service agents because they were not expecting to need to have the jeep ready. I had to wait about 45 minutes but they made it right and accommodated me for my time with a courtesy discount. Great job, Sierra! You made my visit to Fox rental car great. Terrible company! Worst customer service I have ever dealt with. We rented a car from them a month before our Austin trip and had a rental confirmation. When we arrive to Austin airport and went to get our car rental we were told they could not honor our reservation. The customer service representative at the desk was rude and not helpful. He never offered us another vehicle option or even apologize. He directed us to the Avis counter and said that they may be able to help us with a vehicle. He handed us a paper and said we could call his manager, which we did and no answer or return phone call. We never received any communication from Fox that they could not honor our reservation before hand so we had no idea. We had to have a car since we were in town for a wedding and we ended up renting from Avis and paid triple the cost of the original car rental. We called Fox customer service department to explain the situation that we had and they basically said reserving a car rental with their company does not guarantee a rental. Waited for closed to 2 hours just to get a rental car, I've specifically asked for a Jeep Wrangler on the counter and the lady who helped us said they have the car available. We went to the counter and waited for closed to 2 hours only for the person who helped us said if we wanted a Jeep we would have to wait for another hour. We literally SAW him gave away a Jeep wrangler to another people ahead of us who booked a completely different car. The guy who helped us said he could give us another car model and give us a 50% discount, we took the offer only to find out they charged us the full amount we would've paid for the Jeep. Ohhh don't even get me started trying to call the billing department. Does this department even exists? We were on hold on the phone for closed to THREE HOURS. We finally were able to get a hold of a worked named David in the Austin location. He is ABSOLUTELY THE WORST person that Fox could hire. He was very snarky, snobby, and just a horrible nightmare to talk with. When we asked him to transfer us to his supervisor, he literally brushed us off and like "Nope I can't do that, I'm going to transfer you to the billing department (the same non existent department we've been trying to get ahold with) and just transferred our call" This is only the small horrible thing he did to us, all his other remarks were absolutely horrible. Be careful and check every charge on your bill . We have rented from Fox at Austin Airport many times and booked it thru Expedia. This trip we were assisted at the counter by Emily who asked us about additional insurance to which my husband replied "No - we have covered insurance thru our own insurance company.". When we were given the amount it was more than the quoted amount we received when we booked the rental on Exedia. My husband asked why? Emily responded "it's because we used a third party app.". My husband explained to her that we always book thru Expedia ( third party app) and have never been charged an additional amount. To which she said we would have to ask them. We spoke to Expedia about that and they said no there shouldn't be an additional upcharge to book thru them. After receiving the itemized bill from Fox we noticed that Emily charged us for Liability Insurance- which my husband specifically told her we did not want/need. Renting a car is an interesting experience and this time was no different. After realizing that I would have to venture back to the airport in order to rent a car for the day (I was only renting a car for about 8 hours). Once I got to the airport I realized that Fox Rent-a-car was the only rent a car service with a line that didn't seem to move, which was a bit of a cluster. Once we actually got to the counter we were given a free upgrade and after about 10 minutes we were heading upstairs to get in line number two and pick up the car. Once we were at the window the staff was having some problems before one of the workers from downstairs came to help and gave us yet another upgrade which put us into a nice new Dodge Charger. Basically, my experience with Fox Rent a car was just as strange as most of the other people I see reviewing them. Fraudulent company. Rented a car for vacation and weeks after returning home received a charge for going through two tolls. I use Apple Maps and have avoid tolls turned on. I never went through any tolls but when you dispute the charges you have to be able to prove your location. Dishonest company that knows what they are doing and getting away with it. There are plus and misuses to my experience with them. First the plus. Rental counter was easy to get to, got my car fast, and drop off was fast, price was decent. The minuses. The guy at the counter basically sold fear. He insisted that I get their Plate Pass saying I will pass tolls. I told him what we were going to do and where we were headed to and said he will hit tolls. We drove all 4 days in Austin and didn't hit one toll. I also reserved an SUV and was told they didn't have anymore. Offered me a smaller car for 20% discount. If it wasn't for the discount, this would be a bait and switch. When we return to Austin, we will NOT be doing business with Fox and I urge whoever is reading this to also look into alternatives. read more

Horrible company! Worst customer service ever. I rented a car from them a month before my Austin trip, paid in full ahead of time, and had a confirmation. When I arrived at the Austin airport and went to get the car rental, I was told that without a credit card, not a debit MasterCard, they wouldn't give me a car. Then, the customer service guy canceled the reservation. The representative guy I dealt with at the desk could have been more respectful and helpful. He was tactless, spoke so low that I didn't understand what was happening, and never apologized. He directed me to two other rental car counters and said that they may be able to help me. It was unclear when I made the Fox reservation that I would need an actual credit card, especially since I paid it in total upfront! I had to have a car since I was in town for a conference over a half hour away, and I would need the car daily to get to and from the conference and hotel. I tried several other rental car counters with no luck in getting a car because there was a huge event in town while I was there. Luckily, I was able to find a rental from Avis. The customer service representative there was fabulous and very accommodating, but I had to pay almost triple the cost of the original car rental. Of course, I had to put out the money upfront for the Avis car and then request a refund from Fox, which I did not get until almost four weeks later! Worst company ever! I don't think I've ever given a one star rating. If I could give zero I would. Unfortunately, I also did not CHECK the ratings on this business before I booked a weekend car with them through Expedia. BIG mistake. I booked our pick up to be at 12:01AM on a Saturday morning just in case our Friday night flight into Austin airport was wonky (which it was). We landed just before midnight and I sent husband hightailing it to the rental car area to get in line while I picked up the luggage. At 12:10 I was fielding frantic calls from him that there was nobody at the Fox counter and that they had a "we close at 12:30AM" sign up. Well, we still had 20 minutes before 12:30 yet there was no one to be found. As it turned out, the third floor of the airport goes straight across to the second floor (no ramps or altitude changes) of the rental car area. Husband SHOULD have gone up to the kiosk on the third floor of the parking garage (which was a full level higher than the third floor of the airport). Unfortunately, I spent over an hour trying to get in touch with someone from Fox or Expedia on the phone/ digital chat/ help, etc to no avail before I finally went upstairs (per the advice of the Avis guy who WAS still there but had no vehicles after 12:30) and saw that there was in fact a Fox kiosk up there with the same exact sign as the one downstairs... So long story short, not only did we not get our car from Fox, but ALL of the other rental places were out of cars. We spent $120 to get to San Marcos (middle of the night fares) and I could NEVER get ahold of a human from Fox until Monday when I showed up at the airport again. They were unhelpful (though kind), and my money has not been refunded. As it turns out, my husband knew not to use Fox based on earlier experiences with his travel for work (as did my middle son who had been screwed out of a rental once when he made a reservation and showed up to humans who didn't have it for him). I just don't use rental places often so I didn't know. I do know that they have been put on the blacklist for at least one federal agency that the agency is never allowed to book with them. I hope it's then entire federal (and state) governments because they have terrible business practices. UPDATED: I see that they replied to my above comment thanking me for the review as they "are always looking to make improvements" WHILE NOT TAKING CARE OF MY REFUND.
