This is not my second visit to this place in a few days. Having so many options for cuisine over here in North Texas I don't go to the same place twice in a week very often but Barrio Tacos is not your average place. From the lavishly decorated restaurant and bar in all around the entire building, to its impressive selection of tequilas mezcals and whiskeys, to their unique taco ordering system that is heavily influenced by sushi bar ordering. I have been to many sushi restaurants and I've ordered my sushi and sashimi this way, but never Tacos. The quality of the food is top-notch, and everything is reasonably priced. The service, from the hosts in the front to Mr. Jeremy in the back manning the bar, engaging in conversation and conjuring up a killer mezcal concoction that I highly recommend. Which brings me to why I give this place a perfect score. Because when you go out to eat, it's not just about the food but about the experience about the ambience. Does the place invite you in and does the service keep you there? You combine those two elements with great food and you have a place that you will want to return to. So go visit and go to the back bar where Jeremy, the coolest bartender in DFW is. And ask him to make you his world famous Mezcal drink. Great local neighborhood taco shop. We tried to come during opening week, but it was far too busy so gave it some time to settle. Chips and salsa? Just ok. We had the trio with queso blanco (yay), corn salsa (yay) and guac (nay, double nay) between us and another couple. My husband and I also shared a couple of specialty tacos - the smash burger (yay) and the La Tierra (yay) and would gladly order both again. Had happy hour margs for $6 each as well, which isn't too shabby. Forgot to take pics unfortunately. Service was just fine FWIW - on the younger side as some have commented here but I think to be expected, fitting and frankly a good experience for younger people to get their start in the service industry. read more

Outstanding tacos! As a former manager of Pappasito's Cantina, all of the specialty taco have well thought out flavor profiles and unique textures, complemented with some of the best tortilla/shell/chorizo...never mind, ya got to go to Barrio's. lol. Tough to describe but over the top tasty. Did I mention they have an awesome Happy Hour with $18 pitchers of made to order margaritas! We are talking, Old Skool size pitchers(six+ per pitcher), for those of us lucky to have spent many college days with these Huge, oversized relic pitchers. Once lost, now found here. Taco $1 off and half off ALL WHISKEY AND TEQUILAS and do they have a selection for you! Touch tough to find, but well worth the effort. Pay no attention to those negative reviews. I've been to this restaurant five times in 6 weeks! Those reviews were petty, and honestly, I hope those that left negative reviews went on to have a good day because Barrio's certainly weren't the reason for their blow hard reviews. This taco spot was a solid lunch choice. I really liked the setup and customizable without any confusion. They've got a great variety of options, so whether you're keeping it simple or trying a few different tacos, there's something for everyone. I sat out on the patio, which made for a relaxed vibe, especially during lunch. The drinks were a standout well-made, and one of the highlights of the visit. Barrios is such a fun and unique spot! The Día de los Muertos theme really sets the vibe, with skeletons covering the walls and skulls hanging from the ceiling. It's festive without feeling over the top. The service was excellent. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. I also loved the concept. iI's a full-service restaurant, but with a build-your-own taco or bowl style similar to Chipotle... except the food is on a whole different level. I ordered the barbacoa taco and shrimp tacos, and both were fantastic and full of flavor and cooked perfectly. My husband had the beef and chicken tacos and really enjoyed both as well. The highlight for us was happy hour, half off whiskey and tequila is such a great deal and made the experience even better. We can't wait to go back. Pretty great! The tacos are pretty large! Wife loved her Vegan tacos, and my rice and pulled pork was very generous in portion. The ordering process is a bit cumbersome, however. It's like filling out a scantron and it brought back bad memories. Definitely coming back! read more

Visited OG location a few times in Cleveland back in the day. Was so excited to hear of their arrival here and for Father's Day my wife and kid granted my wish and we finally experienced an amazing time. I managed to polish off a few flights and the nachos while wife and kid(native Texans) said it was the best tacos ever!! We will definitely be coming back. Juan was an excellent bartender, not just attentive but very thorough with the explanation of the menu. Lastly the churro cheesecake slice was all of our favorite cheesecake ever!! read more

Ugh I really wanted to like this place and I feel like it has a lot of potential. The ambience was really cute. It took a while for our waiter to come-- they seem short staffed so understandable. We got complimentary salsa and chips. The salsa was kind of weird and tasted like bbq sauce which was interesting. We ordered queso blanco to start and it was so watery; it wouldn't stick to the chip and lacked flavor. To order they give you two separate slips with lots of options and it was really confusing. I ordered a chicken ranch bowl it was good and flavorful. To end, we were charged for the wrong check. New place just minutes from the house, but it missed the mark on both drinks and food. The queso was extremely thin and looked watered down--we ended up mixing in the salsa just to give it some flavor. My wife's margarita tasted like straight marg mix with no tequila. She ordered the shrimp tacos, but the tortillas came out cold and broke apart right away, and the shrimp looked more boiled than grilled. I had the steak bowl, which was okay, but the steak came as one long piece and I wasn't given a knife to cut it. I have been to Barrio several times, but all prior experiences have been at their locations in Ohio. Needless to say, when I found out Barrio was in Texas I was ELATED! The quality of the restaurant in Texas lived up to all of my previous experiences. We tried several tacos and enjoyed each of them. I was also able to take advantage of the late night happy hour which provides excellent value. The covered patio is very nice and will certainly be enjoyed on Texas summer nights. Okay not your typical Mexican restaurant. Service is great (Brook our all in one server, bartender and guide) did a real good job showing us the ropes. You order from a DYI menu and pick and choose what you want. So if you're looking for the taco, enchilada, rice and beans think again. Large selection of tequilas and bourbons. A dozen beers and 3 count then wine choices. But you didn't come for the wine, did you? Fun place, good drinks and a do it yourself taco bar. read more

I had been wanting to check this place out since it was being built. It looked like it was going to be amazing. Tacos and whiskey- how could it go wrong- right? Their menu system is so bizarre from the jump. I was presented a Drink menu and 2 paper notepads with up charge options. Tacos or a bowl. Very "Torchy"-ish but the quality of food was insulting and embarrassing. You get chips and "salsa" but the chip was the star of the show the entire night. The salsa taste like it came from a bottle. Like Pico-Pica meets chamoy. It was awful so I ordered the guacamole. Boy did this blow up in my face. The Guac was so sour, like they made it days ago and drowned out the avocado with lime juice also from a bottle. Nothing was fresh. I ordered a shrimp taco and a cod taco. The tortilla used for the tacos were store bought. Very tacky. Both tacos absolutely horrible. Like it was a strong competition at what can be worst. Husband got a bowl. The rice in his bowl was mushy. It was very obvious that the rice was from a rice cooker that sat and absorbed all the water. He barely ate his food. Our kind waitress noticed we barely ate and asked if everything was ok. She has seen this before I assume. I asked for the check. I would not recommend this place. The vibe is the only thing this place has going on. Service is shit. A bunch of teenagers who'd rather sit at the host stand than fill the chip basket or cups that have been empty for the last ten minutes. I placed my order and didn't see my food until 45 minutes later, even while the tables who sat down after me receive their food way before me. Maybe if it was the best food in the world I'd be willing to tolerate it, but it's not. The tacos are mediocre at best and they must have gotten their salsa recipe from lunchables because it's the exact same! I've been here twice and this time is even worse than the last. Management circles like sharks but doesn't speak to guests or employees. What are you looking for? It's weird. Hire some adults and pick up the pace. This place will not last. read more

After hearing bad reviews, we were a bit worried. But since I have so many restaurant clients across the country I know the first 30-60. Days are rough. So we came today and ordered the Smash Taco. Very good and the Steak taco very good as well. Loved the extra crunch shell with it. My wife had the barbacoa bowl. The portion was large enough for lunch tomorrow. Great vibe hear. We will be back. The menu is all over the place the water tasted like dirt the server spoke to swiftly and could not explain the menu because it is so convoluted. Food- bad, vegan chorizo was ice Cold, tortilla falling apart, and besides the spice, none of the items such as caramelized onions, poblanos and salsa verde were present as they advertised in the menu. A very new restaurant (as of last week) and fun experience...but more than that, the TACOS were fantastic! I ordered the smashburger type taco and it was a 10! So juicy and flavorful. I'd rather have that taco than the burger elsewhere! The flour tortilla was warm, which brings out the flavor even more. I also ordered the "codfather" (fish taco), but I was too full to even eat it since we chowed down on their appetizers of guacamole and their queso dip is so good you almost want to eat it as an entree! We've been to this location twice now and the tacos really aren't that bad. The drinks have been good and the French dip taco situation was on point! We were headed there today for round 3 and based on our 30 second interaction with whoever was at the door, we probably won't be back. It's a Saturday, Texas during March Madness so we were excited to sit at the bar and have a few tacos. The restaurant opens at 3. We sat in the parking lot for a bit as we got there a smidge early. There was another couple who was right ahead of us, the front door was open, it was literally 2:56pm and we were all turned away. I looked at the hostess/waitress and asked if she was really turning away four people because they don't open for another four minutes and the reply was "yes sorry" Folks of the front door is open and the restaurant was well lit and the TVs were on at the bar. Given the lack luster reviews, I would have thought she would have said sure, take a seat at the bar and someone will be with you in a few moments. To turn consumers away due to not being g open for four minutes is insanity. read more

I had the worst dining experience I've had in a very long time at Barrio Tacos. 5 of us specifically went to Barrio excited to try it after watching it being built for months. When we got there, the restaurant was mostly empty. There were 2 small tables occupied. We had to wait for nearly an hour for our tacos. We ordered a queso dip appetizer. The queso was basically liquid, just slightly thicker than milk. It had very little flavor. When our tacos finally arrived, almost every taco was cold with a couple of them lukewarm. The tacos with cheese on them looked like someone had taken a bag of Kraft Fiesta blend and sprinkled the cheese. The cheese was dry and cold...not close to melted. The tacos were terrible. Several of them were flat out inedible. Of our party of 5, only 2 tacos were completely consumed (the Smashburger tacos, which turned out to be the best of everything ordered). The rest of us ate less than half of each taco. It's beyond me how you screw up something as simple as tacos to the point where they're not edible. The Codfather and El Jefe were completely inedible. To be fair to the staff, the girls waiting on us were very attentive, but no one apologized for the delay in getting our food. They just kept asking if we needed more drinks. We won't be coming back.
