My first time visiting this location and the experience went very well. Service was pleasant and the staff were friendly. It was clean and quiet for my quick lunch. It wasn't crowded and I appreciated this. I was off to a good start. My food was how I requested it. I like the slow roasted angus brisket taco. It has the perfect flavor and ingredients. However, I substitute the brisket for their rotisserie chicken. My spin on this taco is delicious. The chicken is cooked with love and well seasoned. Plus the avocado, corn pico, queso blanco, cilantro and cheese on an encrusted flour tortilla adds the perfect balance. This taco is amazing and I love the texture of the cheese tortilla. Velvet Taco is a trendy taco chain, with a location in McKinney. Walking in, you order at the counter and then it's open seating. The restaurant was clean, with creative wall murals and paintings. Staff was kind and communicative. We ordered the elote, steak bowl, rotisserie chicken bowl, and birria and salmon tacos. All the food is spicy, so beware, even the salmon tacos. The elote needed more mayo and cheese. The guacamole had a strong citrus taste, and the rotisserie bowl was salty. Would recommend the tacos over the bowls! read more

I think I have to break up with Velvet Taco. It has been in my husband's and my regular rotation since it opened. Our favorite items on the menu are now gone. My husband used to get the sangria on the rocks, and I enjoyed the ranch water in the Topo Chico bottle. Now they only serve prepackaged ranch water in a can, and it is gross. We would come here after work to enjoy a few cocktails with their delicious tacos, and now that is just no longer an option. Let us know if you bring them back. Steak tacos were cold. Elotes was room temp. Person who took our order was rude. It was a beautiful day but the lighting in the restaurant was so dim and dull, it looked so gloomy. It's a nice place but wasn't well thought out. Feels crowded with 10 people in there. Big overhead screens behind the counter - where's the menu? A small laminate on the counter. Found a hair in our very first taco order. They remade it - but it took so long. My 9 year-old sat and watched all of us eat as they were remaking it. The remake wasn't made a priority- as watched people getting their orders that had arrived after we requested the new hairless taco. Won't be back. read more

I hope this is a review I can update later, as Velvet taco is a great place. This location is fairly new so I'll give them a little grace but when we went here around dinner it was downright filthy inside. Half the tables were occupied, the other half of the tables were extremely dirty and disgusting. Just leftover napkins and food particles everywhere, the trash cans overflowing. It did not appear that anyone was cleaning tables or handling garbage. Giving Chipotle levels of filth and neglect. The tacos we ordered were pretty good, so I don't have any complaints with the food itself. I don't know if this is the norm with these rapidly expanding Velvet Taco locations, but I don't like that there is no actual bar, so if you want another margarita you have to just wait in the long food line. I would have had a second marg, but didn't want to wait. All in, Velvet Taco is great, if not a little overpriced. This location really just needs to figure out how to keep the dining room clean. read more

Zero urgency from the back to the front. Immediately when I walked up, the guy behind the counter at the register just looked at me. I asked him if he needed my name and he just stood there and we started ordering. It was unusual. Then the food was cold when we finally got it. From the moment it hit our table, it was cold which made sense because watching the staff in the back it was like they were all just sedated or something. It was comparable to Torchy's Tacos. My husband and I ordered the combos. They had a drink, tacos and chips and a dip. I would not order that again. It was good but I didn't need the chips and queso. The brisket tacos were flavorful and had a pink sauce and big chunks of avocado. The shell was a bit crispy as it had cheese melted on it. On the expensive side but a good value for the money. I ate there this evening with my family and we sat on the patio. After 45 minutes I had to go in and ask about the status of our order and was told that they forgot to make it. No apology from the manager only that we would get it when it's ready. When we did get our food, my daughter's fish tacos were cold and they are supposed to be served hot or warm. First time eating at a Velvet Taco and I was looking forward to it. We walked in to the end of the serving/pickup line. So we walked around the narrow corridor in between elevated bench tables with people standing and sitting and the trash and tray return stations to the entrance to the order area. Awkwardly laid out to say the least. I ordered pork queso birria tacos and my wife ordered the salmon taco. I picked up our order a few minutes later, not a bad wait time. It all easily fit in a 2 taco metal taco holder with room to spare. The queso birria tacos were greasy, literally flat and limp. Cheesy, with almost no pork in them, the birria sauce was as expected and plenty for the 2 tacos. I have had similar soggy, greasy fried tacos before, but they had more filling, cost less and came with rice and beans. My wife's liked the salmon taco, but again not much salmon, lots of corn and slaw in it though. read more
