After dealing with all of the Green Hills traffic, and pulling into the small/poorly laid out parking lot, I made it inside. It was around 11am, so there weren't many people there. I got my fav go-to's, an old fashioned and a chocolate glaze; I also picked up a lemon filled, for my Mom. The old fashioned and chocolate glazed were good, were they worth it for $1-something each? No! They tasted just like the 60 cent ones, from my local donut shop. My Mom said the lemon filled, was alright, and the lemon filling tasted just like canned lemon filling. Will I go back? Nope. A great find. Fox's Donut Den has a very old time feel. The employee was friendly and helpful. Plenty of seating is available. In addition to donuts, they offer cookies, bagels, muffins, sausage biscuits, coffee, etc. We decided to try an Apple Fritter, Old Fashioned Cinnamon Donut and Glazed Donuts. The Cinnamon Donut was on the dryer side but it had loads of cinnamon flavor. The other donuts had a wonderful texture. They were chewy, gooey and sweet. Very fresh and a good size. We are here on a business trip. Luckily one of my buds knew about Fox's Donut Den. I love donuts... well, I love 'good' donuts. And, therefore, I love these donuts! What makes a donut good? For me, it is all about the glazed yeast. This glazed yeast was a melt in your mouth donut. Perfect. Once the melt in your mouth test is passed, I go to the taste. Obviously, it needs to be sweet, but not over sweet. This one passed the taste test as well. You can taste the flavor of the donut and it is not overpowering of sugar (it is still a sweet thing, but I could taste the vanilla along with the bread it is made from - yum I also tried a second donut - Maple. I loved it. Tried a third - cinnamon- loved it too! So - perfect donuts! Friendly service! Note: 1 donut = $1.33 Note #2 - three donuts for breakfast may make give you a sugar high followed by an afternoon crash! Pretty small inside so not really a place to sit down and sprawl out with your donut. Though there is a few tables and a small bar at the window. Parking is not great either as the lot is pretty cramped and usually full, but it is doable. For a donut shop, this place is huge. There is a good another parking outside, and there is plenty of table space inside. It is located in a strip mall across the mall itself, so it's not the place that you would expect it to be. While arriving, it looks like your typical old fashion donut shop. When you walked in, I was absolutely overwhelmed by the number of choices I had. I ended up getting the old-fashioned doughnut, my friend got the strawberry frosted doughnut. My old fashion was absolutely delicious, and truly tasted like a homemade doughnut. The milk came in a container that was yellow, so I almost thought was orange juice, so it felt a little weird drinking orange container and getting milk. While we were there, there was a woman who is lying down on the boots the whole time. Little bit weird, they should definitely regulate customer/workers to not lie down in the facility. read more

And its over the hood and onto 840 to Fox's sweet den I go! Muffins, donuts, old-fashioneds, bagels, rolls, fritters, buns, biscuits...you name it from the coffee and donut world, it's there. And it's primo. I seemed to be the first customer of the morning. Coffee hadn't even been started. No matter. The staff were working like a machine with 20 dozen orders already labeled, stacked, and waiting. They start baking as soon as the "open" sign winks out. It's 'round the clock dedication to purpose. Yesterday's fritters were atop the counter. Some were "broken" so, who would really want them? Bwahahahahaha! Oh, My Fox! A friend and I were in town visiting Saturday, and decided to stop by here after leaving the mall early afternoon. In hindsight, we should have left after the initial greeting from the one employee present - which was no greeting. The shop was empty, and he just stared at us as we approached the counter, without saying a word. He mumbled a few words as we both picked out a donut, and tossed them both on top of each other in a paper bag - no napkins or anything. As we sat down, two rough looking men walked out of the kitchen and also stared at us. One ultimately sat down at the table next to us, the other just leaned on the wall nearby, both staring. The donuts were on par with Dunkin' Donuts - stale and tasteless/inedible. I took two small bites from mine and tossed it in the trash while maintaining contact with the kitchen guys. We quickly left, as the atmosphere was clearly unwelcoming. I wouldn't step foot in this parking lot again, much less spend my money at this place. read more

Truth be told, I only eat maple frosted donuts ... it's amazing how you can constrain your donut intake if you hold yourself to that standard. On a recent visit to Nashville I stopped in for a cup of coffee and saw this incredible looking donut in the case. Informed that it was indeed maple frosted, I thought I'd give it a try. The very friendly and helpful server - on summer vacation from Pepperdine - encouraged me to try the "old fashioned" style maple frosted. This is the old school, 1950s-style bakery that your parents (or grandparents) grew up visiting. The Donut Den offers sensational treats for dessert, but the one must-have item is the apple fritter. I truly despise the consistency of baked apples and therefore apple pies! I know, I'm not very American. And I've had a few apple fritters that contained the disgusting surprise of being overloaded with slimy baked apples. But these apple fritters at the Donut Den are pure perfection (Nashvillians drop the word Fox's when describing this place). There is a hint of apple without the chunks and deliciously soft pastry that will melt in your mouth. The perfect dessert, but don't go too late because they'll be completely sold out. We locals also love the fact that the strip mall (where the Donut Den is located) was modernized a few years ago and all the businesses were given new signs, only for residents to demand that the old vintage Fox's Donut Den sign be reinstated.
