Overflowing clear coat on the sides, onto cuticle, and under nails taken 2 days after gel manicure

Ladies, I am SO disappointed and need to share my experience. I wanted to get gel nails done before a one week trip to Europe and went to Frances Nails and Spa the day before my flight - figured the location was great and the yelp reviews were good. What a mistake. During my gel manicure, I noticed that each coat was getting a little sloppy, maybe because of the other clients starting to trickle in but who knows. I would point it out to my manicurist and she would say that she would fix it at the end? We get to the final clear coat and she gets the coating all over my cuticles and beneath the nails. I ask her to fix it because it is all over - she tells me it will go away after I wash my hands.... I'm not a dummy and know that it doesn't work like that. After some back and forth I just deal with it and tell myself that I just need this to last one week and get ready for my trip. Attached are the photos of what my nails looked like on my FIRST day of my trip (day 2 of my gel manicure). The overflowing final clear coat was separating from my nail and my cuticles are getting WRECKED from being pulled by the gel coat. Not only did my nails look absolutely terrible on my vacation, but my cuticles are ripped and raw. Terrible experience I hope to never have again!

Very shady and sketchy business practices. Spoke in Vietnamese the whole entire time. Charged me $25 when it was clearly posted on the board that it was $20. When I inquired they discussed amongst themselves in Vietnamese for a while before he mustered an excuse for the extra charge "because your nails are long." My nails are no longer than anyone else that was getting or have gotten nails done here. After some more Vietnamese discussion they didn't really want to solve the problem of the over charge so I left with $5 overcharge and $5 undeserved tip. They didn't say anything during the appointment about an extra charge and brazenly over charged me and wasn't going to say anything until I inquired. Don't support businesses like this, there are perfectly legitimate businesses that don't scam their clients in the area that do better jobs.

My friend Tanya made us a 12pm nail appt for a Friday. They took us on time which is awesome. I had Daniel for my gel mani. He paid very close attention to what he was doing and my mani came out awesome. He was really nice too. I'll definitely be back. *tip: there's parking in the lot between this salon and the Thai restaurant.

Went in for a pedicure with my boyfriend. The service was very awkward from the beginning but that's not what this review is about. Unfortunately they do not practice proper safety and sanitation procedures. The gentleman did not bother cleaning the bowl after my boyfriend finished his pedicure. There was one woman waiting to go after him and the man processed to fill up the bowl after merely rinsing. I even asked him what kind of disinfectant do they use to clean the bows and I quote his response, "I rinsed it water." I'm literally disgusted and promptly left. I can't believe I watched this happen. Smh.

Very pleased with the service and price range of this nail salon in Manhattan Beach. Kathy did my manicure and pedicure and she was friendly and professional. Only 2 guests were allowed at the same time during COVID. I will definitely come back here to get my nails done in this area.

Update: 2/7 2 stars The day before; I called and Made an appointment for a fill with gel. Right before we hung up the man commented to "be on time". I found that odd. Ok whatever. We get there 10min early. He calls me to come sit 15min AFTER my appointment time. Starts working on my fill. Then a woman walks in and says oh did you forget I had an appointment at noon? (My Appt was 1130am) all of a sudden he starts rushing on my fill. The gel application is horrible. It's funky, doesn't meet my cuticle, nor does it cover the edge of the nail. Super disappointed in my fill. I paid $30 for crap all because the dude double booked himself. Never again. Have been coming to Frances nails for the past year or so. I always make an appointment and come in on my lunch break. They are always so nice and accommodating. They do a great job and their prices are very reasonable! I always get a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. They have an abundance of gel colors! Love this place!

My go to nail place. They are quick and efficient and super affordable. Gel polish change is only $17 and they file and cut if needed. Got both of my roommates to switch from their nail places to here, and they were not disappointed! Best husband wife duo!

Normally I'm VERY loyal to my nail salon, but I needed something in a pinch right before my company Christmas party. Took a chance on this place, &; a new nail shape "coffin". BEYOND Satisfied with both selections. I made an appointment during my lunch break, and was able to get a FULL SET &; pedicure. Ohhhh Daniel, you just might make me leave my current nail salon. While I had a positive experience at the salon, I've never had a gel manicure of such low quality. I got chrome rose which required a hot pink under layer. In less than 24 hours, every single nail has hot pink exposed and 2 nails are chipped. I am forgiving of the random dents in the polish and the residual chrome glitter everywhere. For $30, the mani did not even make it to the next day. I am unable to go in today since they are closed. I will update as soon as I can contact them!

Went in for a basic pedicure and even though I didn't make an appointment, I only had to wait about 15 minutes. While I was waiting the gentleman invited me to sit in the chair for a foot soak which I thought was very nice. I was in and out of the salon in about an hour including the waiting time and I'm very happy with my pedicure. An overall good experience- the price was very reasonable and the service was great. I would definitely return however I would make an appointment first. Also they don't accept credit cards. read more

Very sweet staff, the wait is not long (I didn't make an appointment) and the length of time they take to do you're nails, how they try to make sure it's what you want and how they really do achieve perfection is beyond words! Took my mom here for her birthday, everyone was so nice. We got mani pedis, and we had 2 people work on both of us, when others with appointments walked in they didn't rush, they continued to take their time with both of us. I would definitely go here again. Great polish selection, colors and quality. You should know that parking is at the Thai restaurant, I drove for like 15 mins looking for street parking. But other that that it was lovely, prices are great as well $27 for mani pedis and acrylic starting at $20 for a full set. And everyone who worked on my nails, had amazing nail art on their nails. Will probably be back for full acrylic set for my Hawaii trip. Thanks ladies. read more

Love Frances Nails!! They are pretty respectful of your time and my French pedicures always last a long time....and I'm hard ony nails! Came here yesterday with my friend and she accidentally dropped a bottle of polish which broke and spilled everywhere. They were so kind and great about it. I've finally found my go-to nail salon in the South Bay! Their prices are really good for the area ($25 for a mani/pedi) and the quality is better than anywhere else I've been. I've gotten gel done here and they were absolutely perfect and lasted 3 weeks without getting snagged on my hair in the shower. I got a regular mani last week and the quality is so good that the paint is still in pristine condition. Not one chip and I've taken many showers, gone to the gym, etc. They might as well be gel. The place is really clean and the staff is super friendly, especially Daniel, who is one of the owners and probably the hardest working person there! Love this place! read more

Booked an appointment, showed up early and they said they were finishing up someone else. I sat outside for about 10 minutes, went back in and they acted like they never saw me before. Not only that they took someone else! I was right outside the door! They also told me they were done for the day! Favorite Nail salon in Manhattan Beach! Everyone is nice and it is so comfortable. The woman who did my nails did a wonderful job and she was very funny. Will be coming back soon! Had a great experience here! They were quick to take me in at 5:30 on a Tuesday. Parking was easy (a huge thing in LA)- a pretty spacious lot right next door. Kathy was super sweet and she did an amazing job on my gel manicure. I've been to places that took either took forever or did a mediocre job and she was super quick and super on point. Afterwards she gave me a massage and it was the beeeest. Definitely coming back for sure! read more

I think i found my new regular spot! These are the things i love about it - efficiency - i did manicure, and it was done nicely within 25 minutes, including massages - it doesnt feel like she's rushing through it. quite the contrary, it was quality and speed - quality - i was completely satisfied with the service, and the color, and the way she painted it. in other places i've been to, they either made me bleed by cutting in too deep, or putting on the nail polish so bad i have to ask them to reapply or fix it - here i dont need to worry about it mani $14 both mani and pedi $27 as usual tip only parking - park at the thai bistro next to it it is also not so busy on a regular day, but i would call before i come just to make sure read more

This is my favorite nail salon in the area because they are so friendly and they shape my nails *exactly* the way that I want them to. Their prices are very reasonable. It is truly a "no frills" salon, despite being in one of the most expensive cities in Los Angeles. The people who run this nail salon are funny, kind, and caring. My biggest two nitpicks with this place though is the lack of polish selection, and a lot of the OPI colors they do have are old so they are clumped up. I wish they would fill up their selection with more colors. Also, when you go to pay, the price they tell you is higher than what is listed on the board. And if you use a credit card you are charged a fee, even if it is over $10. They share a parking lot with Thai Dishes, which is nice so you don't have to look for parking or risk street parking. read more

1) make an appointment or call first- they're small and when they're booked, they're booked 2) be specific on how you want your nails cut/trimmed. Old school, if you don't specify they just do it.... So to start this review, I had gels on, which I don't typically have. On top of that I got them from a nail salon which is not my usual salon so maybe they have a different technique for taking it off. I can usually remove the gels myself, but I tried at home and it was impossible! So I went to Frances Nail Salon. The lady Who did my nails was very nice, she was a little rough for me, but I am super wussy when it comes to nails. She didn't cut me or hurt me it just freaked me out because there was so much filing going on. However, once the evil gels were off, she was very gentle with my hands and gave me a neck massage and was very delicate on painting each nail perfectly. I would definitely go back and get a mani/pedi again! She was very nice! read more

Recently discovered this place and I am SO glad I did. I will never go anywhere else. Prices can't be beat, a great competitive advantage for them compared to all of the other over-priced salons in the South Bay. Not only is the pricing awesome, but the quality is very good. My gel nails have lasted 2 weeks. The customer service is also great, they take their time and treat you well. Highly recommend going here for your next mani or pedi! read more

They are not walk in friendly at all. when i arrived i asked for a full set and one lady gave me the "ok" notion ( i thought) and then you hear them all speak in their language amongst themselves and suddenly I'm told that they couldn't take me in because it was too late. Absolutely loved this place! I've lived in MB my entire life and have never found a salon that made my nails look they way I wanted. Until I tried Frances. Super friendly owners/staff. Great prices. The best and nicest nail salon I have been to in a long time! I rarely get my nails done professionally anymore (it's hard to with a 15 month old), so I took to Yelp to help me find a good place and I loved it! Hayee (sp?) did an amazing job on my mani-pedi and she was so kind and very nice to talk to. She was also very meticulous with her work - something hard to come across in the nail industry. Kathy and Sue did an amazing job with my nails! Sue worked on my pedicure while Kathy worked on my manicure. I requested to have the chrome done to my nails on top of the gel, and they delivered! Kathy was very friendly and spoke with me throughout the process. Overall, they have great prices for gel and friendly people. I will be back again! read more

Very accommodating and friendly. I've been here twice around lunch time on the weekdays, and they let me walk in without an appointment. Like the other reviews mention, they are clean and the manicures and pedicures are reasonably priced. They do a great job with both regular and gel manicures. Such a welcoming salon. I went in for a fill and my friend got a pedicure. I've been there with my daughter and they always do a great job. She usually gets gel nails and sometimes a pedicure. Very reasonable also. I will definitely be back soon. Maybe next time I'll try another service. read more

A hidden gem in Manhattan Beach=) small yet cozy and very neat place. Their price is reasonable. Not expensive at all for a french. I have yet to compare if I opt for a design next time. And the lady who did my pedi her name's Hii, pronounced as how we say "Hi" to someone;-) She took her time cleaning my nails unlike in other places in which they're always in a hurry and ends up cutting your skin. Thought the place would be crowded on a saturday morning but I was accommodated right away=) Although you will see a sign by the cashier's desk that they only accept cash or personal check for tips, don't worry about it coz you can add the tip if you pay by credit card or debit=) Will definitely be back! I personally recommend this place too! Very nice friendly people working there and always smiling=) read more

Love their appointment booking system which sends you text messages and emails to remind and confirm. Owner is super accommodating. Free wifi and a chocolate on your way out...what more could you want. Will be back for sure!!

I asked for a regular pedicure but they pressured me to do gel on my toes too. I know gel is an extra cost but I never would have thought it would cost me an extra $30 on top of my pedicure. I essentially paid another $75 for a simple pedicure with gel. I was caught off guard when I was at the front ready to pay. Unfortunately - I will not be coming back, not because the work isn't good but because the pressure to get gel as well as the lack of transparency turned me off.

My feet have been through it the last couple of years (sports) and I wanted to get serious about caring for them properly, not just getting them painted. Of course, I turned to Yelp for the scoop and zeroed in on Ms. Glen's Therapeutic Manicures & Pedicures. I finally got a chance to go see Ms. Glen and it was everything I wanted and more. It was relaxing (I fell asleep)! It was restorative! My feet felt and looked healthy and cared for. I didn't get polished which is great because I have been wanting to go natural for a while to let my nails breathe and focus on what's really happening with my toe nail health. So may things I loved (in no particular order): - Very communicative from the appointment (via phone) to the confirmation and directions (via text) - Ms. Glen greeted me at the door - The studio smells divine (really sets the tranquil mood) - The studio was intimate (just me - yay) - The space was very clean (I am a stickler for clean) - There was a complimentary water waiting on me - Ms. Glen has developed her own techniques and products which speaks to her dedication and specialization (I love people who are passionate about what they do!) - Every step of the treatment was appreciated! (very detailed, very attentive, think - pampering your feet from the in-depth massage to the parrafin to the soaks to the grooming and much much more) - I got socks! This was such a special and much needed last step that I never knew I needed. It made my feet more comfortable and protected after such a beautiful treatment. She even asked me my size. How's that for customer service! - Now this one may seem trivial but I never had to hold my feet up during the treatment unless I was transitioning from the bowl to a towel. I do not like having to do that while someone attends to the bottom of my feel or heels. Ms. Glen has it worked out where I can truly relax the whole time. I also left with one of Ms. Glen's therapeutic hand and foot oils in Lemon. She makes the oils herself! It smells so good and leaves a refreshing but not overpowering scent. It feels good oiling my feet every night. Like another reviewer said, this is not your run of the mill pedicure shop. This is a therapeutic service that is worth every penny. My goal is to make this a regular treatment. If my feet are healthy, I am healthier! Thanks Ms. Glen for such a wonderful experience! I'll be back. If your feet are in need of TLC, renewal and restoration, Ms. Glen has a carefully curated service that will leave your feet feeling brand new. I had recently purchased a soap that helps with skin discoloration. It hasn't been making any improvement in the uneven skin tone and dark marks on my feet. Turns out I just needed an appointment with Ms. Glen. The exfoliation she provided literally rubbed away 15 years from my feet. My dry scratchy heels were left supple and smooth and the calloused areas were left soft. Had I known what I was in store for I would have taken before and after pictures. She even provided socks for me to leave in, to seal in the moisture. My favorite part hands down was the massage. She kneaded into these tired soles, and I needed that! I paid a little more than the price listed (which she does quote as a base price) but she also spent almost 2x the amount of time listed. My Fiancé noticed the difference in appearance and feel immediately. I intentionally waited until 24 hours+ had passed to write this review, wanting to see if my feet would feel just as nice. THEY DO!! Ms. Glen definitely puts pride in her work and I love how she checked in throughout the process to ensure I was satisfied along the way. I recommend her service to anyone looking to give their feet a more youthful feel and look. And if your feet have severe issues that might keep you from visiting open public salons, her private suite will help you feel comfortable and secure. Right before I left, Ms. Glen threw in a bottle of her therapeutic hand & foot oil once she saw how dry my hands were. I had discussed my upcoming nuptials with her and she wanted to make sure my hands moisturized properly for my big day, even providing a demonstration on proper application. Ms. Glen is a gem!

I trusted the front desk staff to guide me, and was quoted $80 for Gel-X, builder gel removal, and French tip. At my appointment on Friday 7/18, I was unexpectedly charged $110! I was told the card on file couldn't be used for the service--only for late fees or no-shows--which made no sense. If the salon can charge the card for penalties, why not for the actual service being provided? This was especially frustrating because the appointment was a gift for a huge accomplishment of mine, from my mother, so of course I didn't have the physical card with me. On top of that I was also charged extra for nail length without warning, and billed twice for polish: $20 for gel color and $15 for French tip, even though I only received 1 design; french tip. When I asked for clarification, staff just pointed to the online pricing--but I booked in person to avoid that confusion. The experience felt misleading. I intentionally came in person to avoid confusion and relied on the staff to guide me accurately. Unfortunately, that did not happen. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. If you're considering booking here, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for more transparent and customer-friendly service.

I come here every 2 weeks for mani gel and pedicure for the last 4 years. The prices of their services are reasonable for that area. The staffs are very nice and do a wonderful job. The place is super clean and cozy. It's best to call for appointment but they do have enough staffs for walk-ins. Highly recommend it!! By the way, they have parkings in the Thai Dishes restaurant. So customers can park there and not have to drive around looking for parking spaces. They also do eyelashes extension. Kathy is really good. They're having a special promotion now through February for $100 a new set of eyelashes. Great deal!! read more

They are very thorough and precise in their work and, even with only two chairs, they don't make you feel like they're rushing you out for the next appointment. Price: They are so amazingly affordable for where they're located! I got a gel manicure at $25 and regular pedicure at $15, while my husband got a standard mani/pedi for $30 total. Definitely some of the more reasonable pricing in the South Bay. Tip #1: It's better to call just before coming instead of making an appointment. This is because they take walk-ins and may ask you to bump your appointment a bit if a walk-in takes longer than expected. Calling in is the most flexible way to avoid the frustration that may come with having your appointment bumped or not being able to get your own walk-in. Tip #2: If you're trying to get your man to head to the nail salon with you to do some hand and foot maintenance, you should try starting here! The privacy of the place might make him feel a little less self-conscious and help him realize the wonders of a good mani/pedi. ;) It's actually a cute little spot if you're heading out for some 1-on-1 time.
