We stopped here on the way to Bishop from Reno because it looked legit with its old Mexican style of the building. But I have to say it was good but definitly not the best. The beans were really good, my friends got the chimichangas and they were pretty good. I got the Mexican burrito which was pretty good. I went to Francesco's last week I had real Hispanic food it was delicious not oversized not greasy at all the steak was thin skirt steak the real way it's supposed to be cooked delicious juicy chicken. This is my mom's favorite Mexican restaurant in gardnerville. It's fine, usually friendly service but unremarkable food in opinion. The bean dip and salsa are very good! The entrees lack something, I'm not sure if it's spices or marinades but they're just kind of flavorless in my opinion. Went here for lunch with my boyfriends family the service was very prompt except they messed up on one of the grandmothers dishes. The employees were not going to let grandma bring her pomeranian when it is way over 90 degrees outside.They only get 4 stars because they let the dog stay. They kinda had an entitled attitude and were not very accommodating towards ,large groups. I ate at Francisco's while staying in Minden overnight, and felt like I had had very good tourist luck (with Yelp's assistance). It's an "established" type of place - substantial staff, several rooms, full bar, standard menu and a a number of house specialties. I had the "special" soft chicken tacos. They went beyond the simple taqueria style of grilled meat wrapped in a tortilla (tho not knocking those) - the chicken had a light coating of a cooked sauce with chopped tomatoes and spices that made them a very tasty knife-and-fork dish. Taco plate not tasty at all. Chicken tasteless, and lettuce and tomato (what can you say) and cheese, put salsa on them...still not tasty. Margarita didn't seem to have any liquor in it! We ordered steak nachos and the presentation looked horrible and it was mostly cheese, it had literally 10 very small pieces of steak the price we paid for it was $10.00 s totally rip off! A potentially bad experience was saved. We showed up and the hostess or whoever didn't even seem to notice us as she ran around from the front counter to wherever. Finally a gentleman dressed in a button down collared shirt, not the normal uniform, possibly a manager, said hello on his way to another table. I asked him if we could get a table as no one had greeted us. He quickly got us a table outside and a server came out immediately with our soft drinks, chips and salsa. After deciding on our order and closing our menu, we waited patiently as the waitress (who was the same woman I mistook for the hostess was taking care of the table), took their orders and started bringing food items out. I tried to wave her down in passing but she kept her head and eyes straight ahead never looking at us the only other table in her section. I was almost ready to pay my bill for the soft drinks and leave but I instead decided to find the guy that seated us. I saw him inside and asked if someone was coming to take our order, to which he seemed genuinely surprised. He immediately followed me out and took our orders. I asked for his recommendation and he was good about describing the items he liked. From then on the dining proceeded without incident and the gentleman provided good service. The food was great so I'm glad we stayed. I would recommend training to ensure that this incident does not re-occur. All staff should check to ensure all patrons are taken care of, even if it's not ones own section or primary duty. Everyone in a restaurant is part of a team and needs to cover for each other. That means looking around at all sections and not avoiding making eye contact with customers. If someone needs something, just do it. If nothing else, the staff needs to communicate that it will be just a moment and notify the appropriate person or come back and take care of it time allows. read more

I do not understand how this place keeps winner best mexican food. It is not. The red sauce is weird tasting. Whatever cheese they put in the enchiladas is so salty is was almost inedible. It really is mediocre. Keep searching if we want better mexican food. read more

Francisco's has good food and fast, very good and nice service. Their margaritas are very, very good! The refried beans probably have lard in them, so I order their "rancho beans" on my plate, which are plain pinto beans (yum) and avoid the appetizer of refried beans that comes with the chips. Their salsa is sort of hot for both my husband and myself. The employees are friendly, and we get seated fairly fast. I recommend it. read more
