Best fine dining in Utah! We were a little early for the reservation and the manager personally escorted us to the bar to enjoy a beverage prior to dinner. The entire staff in both restaurants is overly accommodating & friendly. The manager returned to the bar to escort us to our table early. The waiter was very attentive & personable! The most amazing part of the dining experience is the food! It's an explosion of incredible flavors and cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the Gazpacho, Meatloaf and Rack of Lamb. Upon our departure the chef personally greeted us and asked us if we enjoyed the meal? How can you not enjoy perfection? To top it off...even the Valet remembered our car and retrieved it before we gave him our claim ticket. Franck's is outstanding...Yelp should have a ten-star rating. read more

Sooooo good! First time going here and I'd do it again if I had that kind of money. I went with my SO for my birthday dinner and started the evening with the fondue ( the single is plenty for 2). It soaked up into the bread and left a nice coating of gooey delicious cheese on the outside. For dinner I had the salmon with an herb salad on top and it sat on a bed of crab grits. The salmon was perfectly cooked, the crab grits were full of crab and creamy, and the salad on top allowed a fresh cleansing bite so you could dig back into the crab and salmon. It also came with a lemon foam and crunchy almond pieces to add texture. It was a very complex dish and every bite was interesting. I highly recommend it! My SO had the meatloaf and liked it until he tried my dish and said I made the better choice. The wine they paired with it (Melbec) was a good addition as well. read more

Let me preface this review with the fact that SLC and Utah is basically a meat and potatoes comfort food type city. I have lived here for more than 8 years and have only found one restaurant that has lamb sweet-breads. I have yet to find a restaurant with an appropriate selection of aperitifs! Cinzano and DuBonnet seem to be foreign concepts to this town and its culinary eateries! Prior to moving to SLC I was a member of the Detroit Gastronomic Society and have eaten in some of the finest restaurants in the United States. The camera in the kitchen and the monitor in the dining room is quite odd as well. I guess if you are that bored with the crowd you are dining the monitor serves a purpose. Pretense runs high here for the SLC crowd at times. Serving French fries (Oh excuse me, Pommes Frites) as an accompaniment to the wonderful mussels in a white butter sauce was a waste of the time and effort to make the fries. We did have to ask for and received some bread to soak up the sauce. My partners fish was well prepared and topped with a mild yellow curry sauce and was served with appropriate accompaniments. The meal took a nose dive after the mussels for me. The chef takes some bold risks in his vegetable choices for the SLC crowd, which I was happy that he did. Greens, turnips, carrots and squash were coupled well with a duck breast. What sat in the middle of the plate was an ill-conceived potato gratin that would overpower a habanero pepper sauce! Not well-thought out here. The sauce for the duck was a very delicate passion fruit reduction. Once I had a forkful of the potatoes I could not concentrate on any other flavors! My taste buds were overwhelmed with the distraction of strong cheddar and parmesan. If the you want to take culinary risks, I am all for unique and unusual gastronomic variations so long as the food and what you are serving it with make sense. Atmosphere, ambiance - charming. Food - definitely not your mama's meatloaf (mine) or fried chicken (hubby's) but of course we were not expecting them to be. These entrees were good but the sauce on the meatloaf was way too much. Everything on my plate was floating in it and honestly looked disgusting after a couple bites. So maybe less is more in this case. Loved the layer of squash in my mashed potatoes. Being from the south I knew hubby would order the fried chicken, which he enjoyed, including the bed of really good grits. Loved dessert - a trifle with a yummy puff of cotton candy on top! Service - very friendly, so why was I put off by it? I'm not sure. Would we go back? Probably. Well, this is Salt Lake City and there really aren't too many nice dining options that we can see. One last note....forced valet parking for such a small restaurant is weird. But valet parking is fun so what the heck! Suggestion - maybe when it's raining as was the case on our visit, have the server or someone notify the attendant when you're ready to leave so your car is waiting and you don't have to stand in the rain. read more

The cooks here drink hard liquor on the job. It's a huge liability for Francks. Don't get me wrong about the food..it was good. But also overpriced. I just think the chefs shouldn't bring alcohol to work and pass it around taking shots all night. read more

The food was superb! Service was great! Definitely request a window seat as they have beautiful gardens surrounding the resturant. The interior is simple, but elegant. Having all sorts of food sensativities and allergies, the chef was very accommodating. They even made a special desert for my birthday celebration with no gluten or table sugar. It was quite tasty and plenty sweet, made from tapioca pearls, orange extract and berries with heavy cream. I believe they used honey as the sweetener. I had the sea bass and dining partner had steak. We were both very pleased with our selections. A bottle of wine completed our dinner. The waiter helped us make excellent choices all the way around. Dinner was a bit pricey, so this will definitely be a special occasion spot. read more

Hands-down my favorite restaurant in Utah. The ambience is cozy, the wine cellar is stellar, and the chef is an adventurous artist who finds delectable fusion from the far reaches of the world. It is not pretentious, so if you are trying to impress with a modern facade with contrived food this might not be your place. But if you love excellent, creative food in a mountain lodge atmosphere you will not find a better place. read more

We had been to Franck's before and had a very nice experience. My boyfriend saw their billboard for burger night Thursday and decided that was a great opportunity to go back. Our server David, was wonderful. Their wine pairings were spot on and delicious. My bf thought the quality of meat (wagyu) in his burger was top notch. He was also excited to know that every Thursday they have a different burger. Both times I've been to Franck's they've been able to accommodate my vegan diet in a very tasty way. If it were closer we'd probably go there more frequently. read more

We took my parents for their 65th anniversary. The staff were very kind and gracious to them. The food was delicious and the presentation was amazing. The chef went out of his way to prepare a vegan main course for me. They also modified an appetizer and it was so delicious. I had called ahead to request a vegan meal and the chef exceeded my expectations! It was so fun for me to eat a yummy vegan meal for once at a nice restaurant. I appreciated his kindness and consideration. We will definitely be returning! Thank you Rob and Blake for a lovely evening for my parents. Wow! I loved everything about our meal at Franck's. After living in New Orleans for six years, I have rarely found a restaurant in SLC area that lived up to the cost of meal and that I can't wait to try again. One of, if not my absolute, favorite meals I have had in SLC. We sat for a long time without being approached by a waiter, so they offered us a complimentary app. We got the fondue, which I wish we wouldn't have because, although it was very good, we had no idea what amazing food was coming after getting pretty full on cheese and bread--ha ha. I'm still dreaming about the beets a l'orange! I LOVE any form of beet salad and this might have been my favorite ever. It's actually served on rye bread points spread with goat cheese and topped with beets, red onion, orange sections, arugula, mint with some crunchy pepitas and the most delicious orange vinaigrette. The mint and orange with the beets was exquisite. My husband ordered a wild boar cake and a savory soup (I can't remember which kind specifically) that had a subtle white chocolate in it and was amazing. I had the grouper. The mushroom risotto and the cider bubbles gave the dish tons of flavor. We shared a dessert that was interesting. . . .it was like a chocolate or butterscotch pudding (?) that had caramelized bacon bits as a topping. There was just too much bacon and it was a bit off putting. That was the only menu item I/we didn't love. Good value and amazing food. I can't wait to go again. read more

I had the meatloaf it was fantastic and a coconut cake for desert wrapped in a light and dark chocolate shell with pineapple infused cream cheese frosting that was so good, I am salivating just thinking about it, this is only my second review on Yelp the last one was a 1 star at HERTZ rental car at the John Wayne airport in California so I want to spread the good with the not so good. Would not travel from out of state to eat here. Meatloaf and French fries, no matter how sauced up, belong in a diner. Scallops soso. Salmon ok. Short ribs were the best of entres we had. The tiny scoop of ice cream had cleanser residue in taste and smell. I love this place, it's one of the best in SLC for sure. Their location and decor is romantic and nice without being over the top formal just for the sake of it. Their servers are fabulous! They know about every dish and are excited to talk with you about it. You actually enjoy talking with them and hearing their recommendations. The food is excellent. Every dish I've tried I've loved. The soup specials are always really fun and creative and one of my favorites to try. I'd say the worst thing about Franck's is that sometimes they sell out of the popular entrees by the end of the night so you can't order them. Everything about this place is fantastic. The location, the ambiance, the atmosphere, the service and of course the food. I could go on for days, but everything was amazing. I had brussel sprouts for example, that I've hated for my entire life, and they were delicious. The scallop appetizer was equally scrumptious. The salad was basic, but the flavor was great. The garlic mixed with the cheeses really was perfect. My wife got the pork loin and it was great. However, I got the fried chicken and it was out of this world; possibly the best fried chicken I have ever tasted. Even the grits were good and that's tough because I don't like grits. But the chicken was perfectly fried - crispy and tasty on the outside, but one the inside everything was juicy as can be. Even the breast was dripping with juice and that's hard to do. The coconut sauce though was what made the dish - it's was ridiculous. Words can't even describe how good it was. Sure I spent $120 for two people, but it was some of the best food I've had in a long time. Lindsey was our server and she was fantastic. Highly recommended in every way. Food presentation is great - outdoor patio is awesome - the dining room inside is just ok a little Spartan/unimaginative for my taste - however with these prices and being one of "the best places in town" the taste should be a bigger part of the meal - if you don't care about money and want to try it go nuts but there is more flavor out there read more

I have lived in Utah for over 10 years and have heard of Franck's and finally tried it out tonight to celebrate my birthday. We ate out on the patio which was quiet and lovely. So I was looking forward to the meal WHAT THE FRANCK! I honestly can't believe this place gets the reviews it does. The best thing about the meal was the wine (we brought our own). The tomato pie and brussel sprouts were good. We split the salad which was good too but nothing spectacular. My husband ordered the Wagu steak. Eh. It didn't have a steak quality our server said it was tender, but it was really just mushy. I guess when you boil steak in bag for 6 hrs you get what you deserve. The worst part of the meal was the meatloaf. Really? This is a signature dish that they can't take off the menu. It had the texture of canned dog food and tasted almost as bad. Plus, the plate and food was so hot-it must have been under lights for a while. The ice cream choices were so weird - my husband had chocolate/mango/jalapeno? yuck. I had the carrot cake which wasn't bad. Our server was very sweet, but the service was slow. 2 tables that got there after us got there food and and finished it by the time we had our entree. Mike the manager was very apologetic and gave us a dessert which was nice, and they took off the cork fee. So alteast they made the effort to improve our experience. read more

We went to Francks for New Year's Eve meal and it did not disappoint. 5 courses of excellence. The scallops were perfectly seared. The carbonated grapes in the dessert a delightful surprise. We came for an anniversary dinner. We were greeted by a very friendly and professional valet (Sergio, I think), who remembered our name after dinner. Our server was very enthusiastic. She knew the menu very well and told us all about her favorite dishes in detail. We took her recommendation and had the Brussels sprouts to start. They were quartered and pan fried until crispy and served with toasted almonds, parmesan, and a sherry vinegar reduction. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The saltiness of the parm played off the vinegar very nicely, and their texture was superb. Excellent wine pairing, as well. My SO got the fried chicken, which came with gruyere grits and a mustardy emulsion. The chicken was very juicy and flavorful and had a great crust. Lightly spicy, nothing at all overwhelming. Very good. The grits were also a highlight. We found the sauce to be overly sweet and it easily overpowered the other elements in the dish, a small amount (say, one fork tine dipped) in each bite was sufficient. It was paired with a chardonnay. I got the duck breast with a potato gratin and pineapple yuzu sauce. I ordered it medium rare and it was delivered so. Lovely presentation. The sauce was at once sweet, slightly tart, and buttery and had a slight spice that I can only describe as Christmas-y (not in a bad way). I was surprised at how well the gratin tasted with the sweet sauce. I was very pleased with it. It was paired with a lightly effervescent rose that complimented the dish perfectly. Overall a very good experience, especially with the suggested wine pairings. One thing that we noticed was that most things on the menu trended toward sweet. Not necessarily a criticism, but something to be remarked upon. read more

I moved to Sandy recently from the San Francisco area and I am pretty much the snobbiest of the snobs when it comes to the restaurant choices around here. I've tried several of the restaurants that show up repeatedly on top 10 lists and get recommended to me by locals. Usually I am really disappointed. But Franck's -- recommended to me by no one and on no list I've seen -- was finally a successful restaurant experience! Wow. Yum. Wow. Impeccable service, lovely atmosphere, basically a psychic valet who pulled our car around as we were walking out. All of these things were nice. But the food -- oh my. Every single item was beyond delicious. I think the menu changes regularly, but my two favorite things we ordered last night: heirloom tomato pie (a small but tasty appetizer) and a pork loin slow-cooked for 16 hours and then broiled for a crispy outer "shell." This is the kind of food that's hard to make sound exciting by describing it in words, but the flavor is out of this world. If you, like me, smirk when you see Olive Garden on a "Top 10 Restaurants" list, Franck's might be your place. Oh -- it's also very expensive French food, so, you know, probably a special occasion place unless you're a baller. read more

Franck's is our favorite restaurant in Salt Lake! We usually come for the tasting menu on Tuesdays but decided to try burger Thursdays. I always have high expectations for the food at Franck's but the burgers blew us away. Such a unique combination of flavor and texture. Absolute perfection. This place is awesome. 5 stars all the way. First off the service was great. Our server was Michelle, what a fun personality she has. She was great at suggesting and telling us what she liked. She wasn't stuffy but candid, making us feel at home with casual conversation and laughs. Very adorable woman. Second. The food. Oh god. It was all top notch. We ordered a potato/tomato pie for an app and it was the best thing we ordered. The mid apps were great; the salad simple, the soup a bit strong with bacon flavor but great to try. For entrees we ordered the Salmon and The Lamb. Both good. The grits with the Salmon were to die for, crunch, smooth and sweet. The lamb is of course a classic with potatoes, It's not going to blow your socks off but it's delicious and comfortable. Then the other best part; lemon creme brûlée. There are only a few good places for great creme brûlée in the city and Francks is one of them. Overall a great experience. Thanks Francks for impressing the Petersons. read more
