Had the spaghetti and marinara meal which came with garlic knots and a small salad, perfect, great portion and good pricing! Those pizza slices are huge! Very casual atmosphere, plenty of tables to eat there or take to go. Very clean and great service! Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Frank & Al's is the kind of place that gives your wallet a big hug... but leaves your taste buds wondering if they got stood up. Let's start with the good: the lunch special is a beautiful thing -- two slices and a drink for about seven bucks. In this economy, that's practically a miracle. You could feed yourself and still have enough left over to pay for parking (which is free) and maybe a scratch-off ticket. The slices are huge! The flavor is small. Now more about the pizza itself... let's just say it's got the enthusiasm, but not the flavor. The dough is chewy -- like it's training for a taffy competition -- and the sauce seems to have gone on vacation somewhere far away. Maybe Tuscany? Maybe witness protection? Wherever it is, it's not on the pizza. I kept taking bites hoping each one would be "the one," the flavor breakthrough moment -- like in a rom-com when the couple finally kisses. But it never came. Just more doughy confusion and a sauce that tasted like it was texting instead of paying attention. Still, I can't be mad at a place that's feeding people affordably and serving with a smile. It's the kind of spot you go when you're hungry, thrifty, and feeling forgiving. I've been here several times. It's a nice place and the food is for the most part, very good. The wings, the calzones, the dinners, all excellent. The pizza is another story. The pizza pretty much sucks. If you like "New York style" pizza, then maybe you won't have as much as a problem with it as I did, but personally I would have preferred Pizza Hut, and I don't care much for Pizza Hut. Frank and Al's has 4 or even 5 star food, but in my book a "pizza" place that can't make a halfway decent pizza is unforgivable. Problen #1, we ordered extra cheese and yet there was a lack of cheese, a lack of even a normal amount of cheese. Problem #2, all the toppings were on top of the cheese. Really, who makes pizza like that? Problem #3, obviously canned mushrooms and plainly visible raw looking onions (because they were on top). Problem #4, lack of cheese, again (and sauce). Problem #5, painfully soggy crust. All these things might not be a problem for some, but all together, they're a deal breaker for me. I'm originally from Chicago. I like a crispy thin crust pizza, fresh ingredients, lots of cheese (on top), good sauce, and preferably cut into squares. I've long since left Chicago and come to the realization that most of the rest of the world doesn't really care, or maybe they've just never had really good Chicago pizza. Your mileage may vary. Frank and Al's had good food, just don't order the pizza, or go ahead and see for yourself. You've been warned. read more

This pizza used to be so good! Frank made our last two pizzas, and they were garbage at best. We ordered extra pepperoni and barely got any. We ordered a chicken, bacon, ranch pizza, and I don't think he put any bacon on. The chicken was sparse at best. It was basically a cheesy ranch pizza with only a small handful of toppings. Now, I understand, a business owner wants to save money. He should have at least given some toppings instead of completely skimping, especially when we paid for extra. The final straw for me was when I heard how he was talking to his employees. He was giving them a strong lecture, loud enough for the restaurant to hear, he was barking orders at this employees, yelling at them, demanding his soda, etc. As a customer, I don't want to hear this, let alone from the owner. The owner's customer service leaves much to be desired. He's lucky his employees didn't walk out right then and there. So embarrassing for a small business owner. read more

I only get a few things which include their pizza which is good not great, it's NY style but the crust doesn't have that much of a taste it's okay. I also get the spaghetti with tomato sauce which is pretty good, the sauce is rich and is nice on the pasta. New Englander here in FLA to watch our sons play baseball. This place is awesome - pizza shops back home should visit here and take notes. Friendly service. Fantastic New York style (better than many NY pizza places for sure) pie. Pepsi products available via fountain and Coke products in bottles. Booths are big and comfy. Beer draughts available in frosty mugs. We are here for four days and hit Franks and Al's twice!!! Even the little things they nail like COLD ketchup for my fries. Superb spot. This has to be one of the worst pizzas I have ever had. The service was very nice. I just read post about something this being a NY pizza and how great it is. That poor soul obviously has never been to NY or New Haven for that matter... sauce is straight out of a can.. oh perhaps some dried oregano added... cheese.. was this mozzarella? Or some kind of whey by product? What little of it that there was... the only redeeming feature was that the crust had some crispness but no redolence of yeast whatsoever ... This place is clean, has friendly staff and the food is large portions and very tasty. Not sure if they do it every night but the draft beer was buy one and get one free. For some reason on my Google map app it showed their location across US-1 so watch out for that. This place is awesome so if you can stop by and get some great food! read more

Awful... it used to be good but now the pizza is flavorless/dry/barely any cheese & more expensive.. the wings not even crispy and the mild sauce is now wayyy too spicy. Also now they also make the waitresses wear tiny booty shorts... it's so sad they are objectifying women... it's disgusting. Woman have value- trying to get women to wear less clothes doesn't make the place better...it's not a family place anymore. Will never go there again and neither will my family anymore. Our whole table was uncomfortable with the new attire... especially when they have to bend over and clean the tables. I have also told my friends about that new skimpy waitress attire and how awful the food was... sad how this place has changed we won't be going back. Very Good! We ordered 12 wings, a pepperoni/onion calzone, and 2 huge slices of pepperoni and green bell pepper pizza (for the hubby for later), for a total of about $40. The calzone was loaded with toppings! It oozed of cheese and had stacks of pepperoni in it. It had just enough onion for that onion taste that I was looking for. The ricotta cheese seemed to have some spices to it, which made it even more delicious and the crust seemed to have a garlic coating. The wings were crisp and huge! We ordered ours plain, but with the sauces on the side, so that we wouldn't loose the crispness on the way home. My only complaint is that the calzone was a little "thick" as in the breading was a bit chewy, no crisp at all. I didn't have a problem with the counter staff, everyone was nice and efficient, although we didn't sit down and eat and I did call the order in ahead of time. I was just about to give into a chain restaurant when I found this gem!! This is the best New York style pizza !!! We just like it here. The food is good, the people are friendly and we just get a good vibe. Last time we ate there, we met a couple of locals, and we gabbed for hours over our good dinners. 1st time we had pizza & it was good. The pizza can get expensive if you add many items to the basic cheese pizza. The 2nd time I had a Calzone which was "OK" but nothing to rave about. My wife had a hot steak sub sandwich which was again OK. It lack seasonings and/or flavor. She also had a side salad which was a joke for $4.00 (can you say ripoff). There was barely any lettuce, 1 little slice of tomato and couple of slivers of cucumber. Overall the food was OK. Examples of less than quality was the mushrooms in both the pizza & calzone which was mushrooms "out of a can." Not my idea of quality. read more

Our visit was not a good one. Only had pizza and beer and the pizza was soggy. We sat in a booth and one of the staff asked us if we were ready to order. We said yes and expected her to take our order. She failed to mention that we were supposed to come up to the register to order. We finally figured it out about 10 minutes later. When we got home and looked at the receipt, there was a $2.00 charge for "Open Food". No idea what that could be.
