When my wife and I selected our venue, we looked through 6-8 photo albums displayed there by various professional photographers. Several were very nicely done, but Frank's album stood out from the first time we looked through it and every time after that, including on a subsequent visit to the venue. The decision was clear and easy. It's difficult to describe, and maybe that's why some photographers are good photographers and others are that, but also artists. He captures moments, angles and lighting differently and in ways that put his work on another level; and, as I recall he also had a great camera. All that aside, he's such a nice and polite person, it was a pleasure having him around our family and close friends, plus he has a knack for remembering people's names that is very handy when referring to them while setting up great shots. Frank is an amazing photographer, and he really went beyond what we asked him for. He arrived at the venue a little bit earlier to scope the place out and introduce himself. My whole family loved his kind energy and attention to detail. He even brought the photos I wanted to take on his phone so he could pose my husband and me. We had a short ceremony, but I did not even see him moving around a whole lot which is nice because for me a photographer that runs all over makes it hard for family and friends to enjoy the ceremony. He, along with my sisters and MoH made sure I got all the family photos I wanted and solo photos. Although we did run out of time for portraits, which was not his fault, he still took many beautiful photos, and I am planning to hire him for an additional photoshoot for my husband and me. I've never written a review on yelp or on any other forum, but I need to write one for Frank. One of the most difficult tasks in organizing a wedding is picking a photographer. My father owned a photo processing business for 20 years so I've developed an eye for good photographs. It was important that my photographer loved photography. He/she should not be in the business because it is lucrative. This is important because camera technology nowadays makes any novice look like a professional. My sister's wedding photographer was exactly that. She had a nice camera, but she had no recommendations of lighting and did not "control" the crowd. You want an aggressive photographer that will gather your friends and family for the shoot. She was not very good and the pictures showed. I'm also old school, and wanted a photographer that has fundamentals from print film days. Frank Lee Photography puts all of these concerns to rest! Some photographers I interviewed made me feel like I was in a car dealership. It was much like a discussion of a sales contract & terms. There are also others who are a bit arrogant. One photographer said, "you get what you pay for you know.." That kind of attitude. To some extent, I think that is true, but not always. Or...."I'm not available, but my partner (2nd tier photographer) is and we're going to charge you the same price" Really? I had one photographer who contracted out the shoot and he's there only to edit the pictures and collect money! In my opinion, the photographer should always be the editor. When I interviewed Frank, it immediately felt right. He was so enthusiastic about his craft and photography. He has international and big city experience. It is very important for the photographer to be well versed in diverse cultures and surroundings. I asked him about his style and he answered it spot on. He said he likes to capture the raw emotions, unedited. Good photographers look for these opportunities. They don't need you to pose to get you a good shot. It might sound like an obvious answer to some, but common sense is not so common. I wanted the raw emotions captured and a good photographer needs to see the opportunities before they develop. I love Frank not because the things I've already mentioned, but because of the little things. For example: - He visited the venue the day before the shoot to familiarize himself with the surroundings and the agenda - He had his partner pose and mimic the steps taken by the wedding party and the bride - During our engagement shoot, he suggested to keep shooting because he was having such a good time shooting us! (even though we were dead tired) - He was flexible on payment and never felt like he rushed me for payment. He trusted me. - He controlled the crowd. - He was prompt in replying. In this review, I wanted everyone to see how crazy and picky I am. =) Perhaps it'll convince you to give this man your business. Frank is an excellent photographer, loves his job, easy to work with and reasonably priced. Now that I'm married, I look forward to working with Frank on future family portraits. I would highly recommend Frank as a wedding photographer. From the get-go, the photographer was going to be the most important vendor that I'd hire for my wedding. My husband and I saw a dozen portfolios at wedding expos and met with a handful of photographers, but after seeing Frank's work, there was no question who we'd go with. First and foremost, I would say that our photographs turned out very well. Frank has a good eye. We had a large wedding (200+ guests) which can be challenging and a lot of work. The lighting that Frank used, captured group shots really nicely (not dark in background, not washed out, etc.) I think we managed to get a family picture with about 75 guests which was pretty cool. Aside from quality of the photos, it was a pleasure to work with Frank from start to finish. He was always very responsive to phone or email. We met with him twice; once before booking him and again closer to the wedding. He was very accommodating with scheduling. Meeting with Frank for our second time, it felt more like hanging out with a friend than having a vendor meeting. Frank has a calm and relaxed demeanor (which is especially appreciated during the chaos of wedding day!) Not exactly liking being the center of attention, I felt very comfortable being photographed by Frank and his partner. Some of my family commented that he's the best wedding photographer they've ever seen! They appreciated that he showed pictures throughout the day. My fiance and I had an engagement shoot with Frank last week. We just received our photos, and we love them! Frank took us to a busy park in the middle of downtown San Jose. At first glance, I was doubtful that it would be a good background, but he looked around, found amazing spots, and made it look simply magical. Frank is super friendly, hard-working and professional. We had a wonderful experience working with him, and received plenty of wonderful pictures at the end. It's a whole day of engagement photo shooting at three different locations in San Francisco City on a Thursday. He knows the places very well and effectively helped us choose the locations before hand. That day, he came pick us up at our address in the morning, drove us to the city and spent whole day with us until after sunset, then dropped us off back at our home. He's good at relaxing us and guiding us to pose, we are not good at posing, but really enjoyed the day with him and felt delighted all the time. P.s. his car has privacy screens so we could change in the car. HD photos arrived edited two weeks later. Frank picked good ones and adjusted them nicely -- a small parts with two styles, both colored and B&W. I was fortunate to have hired Frank to be our wedding photographer in 2017. I selected him based on his artistic portfolio - he is a true professional photographer (think he gets quite a bit of commercial work), and it clearly shows through his work. We first did an engagement photo shoot with Frank in the Berkeley Marina. He was flexible with the time and place. Frank showed up early with his assistant to scope out the area for good photo opportunities. My fiancé and I are quite awkward in front of the camera (not big picture people!), but Frank made it easy and fun for us the entire time, directing us as needed and giving us refreshing ideas on various sites and poses. We never felt hurried or rushed. When we received our engagement photos, we were thrilled at how beautiful and natural they turned out. I loved the pictures so much that I also referred my brother (who was also getting married the same year) to have Frank do his engagement photos. My brother and his fiancé were also super happy with their photos. The day before our wedding, I ran into Frank at our wedding venue, a small local winery and vineyard. He stopped by on his own time (I didn't even ask!) to check out the property and make sure he got a good feel for the place. True dedication to his work! On wedding day, Frank and his assistant arrived at the vineyard in the late morning to take pre-ceremony shots. It was a full day, as we had a Chinese Tea Ceremony, Western Ceremony, and dinner reception. We had many attendees, given a large extended family and even our beloved little chihuahua dog! Frank easily navigated through the wedding chaos and delivered stunning pictures of the ceremony and reception. There were beautiful backdrops: giant oak trees, lush green vineyards, a pre-dusk glow. Frank captured each moment and person in its most natural form, sometimes delicate, sometimes serious, and sometimes humorous. To top it all off, Frank created a beautiful high quality leather bound photo album that he sent us a few months after our wedding. There were even 2 mini albums to supplement.
