This might be the best breakfast I have ever had!! This place is a classic mom and pop American eatery, friendly seat yourself place with open kitchen, very clean and huge selection of breakfast items, great fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee, the service can be a little off depending on how busy it can be, and can get very busy depending on the time Of year. O.M.G. - this place is absolutely a must go to when at Newport. I came here on a recommendation from a friend. Honestly, worth every second of the wait and for us luckily it was just a short one (half hour). We got the blueberry stuffed French toast from the specials, their açaí bowl and the waitresses recommendation was the Portuguese breakfast sandwich (holy cow). Here for Jazz fest, Franklin Spa was a fantastic little nook with humble exterior. I got the deconstructed lox bagel special and the grapefruit palm smoothie, both of which hit the spot. Im being a bit generous with 3 stars since I cannot give 2.5 stars. The food was just ok, our server may have been having a rough morning..or maybe related to the owner. Customer service should be top notch if your food is just ok at least. Home fries were ok, eggs were..decent. A few other dishes we ordered were nothing to brag about. For breakfast I think most people that visit might me long time local customers or never really had a real breakfast. Recommended by the hotel front desk at Newport bay club and hotel as a place where all go for breakfast. Service was okay, burnt raisins toasts, and still served to customers. For out of towners, it's a nice walk through a different part of town. But food wise, service wise, it was underwhelming. We were a party of 4... we only had to wait 10 min or so for a nice booth. The server was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu but it took really long for us to get our drinks, food. Coffee refills were ok. I didn't have any but the fresh squeezed OJ (which was "market price") was good, as well as my friend's V8... cept it took forever to arrive, lol. For the table, we ordered a half order of the French Toast which was standard and yummy. They use good Texas Toast. Unfortunately they don't do half orders of the stuffed French Toast which would have been good to share. Otherwise, food was meh. I ordered the Mexican omelette which I thought would come with homemade fresh salsa, came with jarred salsa on the side which didn't seem too interesting so I did not bother with it. They let me sub out the cheese, swap the sausage for chorizo, and get sauteed spinach instead which was nice. The chorizo was ground and not a nicely cooked grilled/fried thing. Overall the omelet was a bit watery. I also found a strawberry blonde hair in my omelette. I didn't want to make a fuss over it because it's an honest mistake and food took a while to get out but still, ew. I get that my omelet might have been weird, but two of us got the Azorean which was marginally better (cheese, chorizo, pepper, onion), and the other the pulled pork omelet which would not have been for me but seemed to be meaty and plentiful. All breakfast potatoes that came with the omelets were undercooked, and not salted at all. All omelettes have toast. I like the marble rye they have. You can opt to do various scrambles, benedicts and of course classic sweets like pancakes, French toast...there for sure are many choices. They have many specials, and do smoothies. When they put the food down, they also mixed up who had what. Not a big deal, but it all of the issues overall made it a meh experience. Not sure what other breakfast joints they have in Newport but next time, I'll be noting to go to Rosemary & Thyme's, even if they just do random pastries/muffins. Cash only. read more

I thought that my desire for a classic diner was crushed when I saw the waitress closing up shop outside. She told me it was closed but to my surprise she called me back and said Rocky will cook me lunch, This "Rocky" is the owner for 20+ years that I had the pleasure of chatting with and served by. The ambiance isn't anything fancy, it a very casual, basic- almost diner style place with an open kitchen to the right. Plenty of seating & clean. Our waitress was very sweet. I got the Lobster Benedict -Deeeeeelicious. One of my friends got turkey & egg whites while the other had bacon & eggs....nothing tricky there! LOL Then we shared an order of the Blueberry Stuffed French Toast......and it's true...what so many other reviews have said before me...SO SO true! TO DIE FOR! SO YUMMY! Sometimes there is a long line, but I would be astonished if there wasn't. The interior is a bit dated, not kept up, but that's what makes it so great! Sorry to say that we had a very mediocre experience. We had high hopes because the items on the menu sounded great and the reviews are generally good. Maybe we went on a bad day but they were sorely understaffed. There was one waitress for the entire place and it took 20 minutes for her to take our order. There were two or so people working in the kitchen area. Everything we ordered was very undercooked. Grilled muffin was soggy, like it had not been baked long enough before grilling. Home fries were still raw potatoes that were crunchy inside. Omelette had raw onions and mushrooms inside. Corned beef hash was soggy, like a stew. Crab cake Benedict had soggy crabcakes (if you even call it that) and they were tiny. One of the poached eggs had burst so there was no yoke left. The hollandaise was gelatinous. The food we ordered took a full hour from when we sat down, so we were starving. Then I really did not feel good after, and I suspect undercooked food as the problem. read more

The french toast was so-so, but there was an EXCESSIVE amount of spread on it that made it almost too sweet to eat. The egg sandwich was ok, but nondescript. I was also surprised at how unkempt this place was. The first table we were going to sit at had cleaning material sitting on the table. Then after we found a "clean" table, I watched how the staff cleaned their tables and chairs. It was kind of scary.
