We stopped here on the way back to our rented condo in Islamorada after a day in Key West for a late lunch/early dinner. What a very pleasant surprise. I lived in Northeast New Jersey for 15 years and had been to Little Italy in NYC dozens of times. The meal we got was as good as any of those places. The Manicotti was done perfectly. Let me start this off with saying the food here is Amazing! Probably the best food in town. The only reason this restaurant is not getting a 5 star review is because of Joes nasty attitude. I held back from writing this review the first time I was there. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was just having a bad day. But I guess NOT! It has been my third time in the restaurant and guess what. Joe is still as unpleasant as the first. He can't be bothered with a question he can't be bothered with take out, He can't be bothered with anything! The funny thing is he seams to be nice with everyone else. We tried the calamari and we really enjoyed that. The batter was light and crispy. My wife had the spaghetti with meat sauce and order a Cesar salad. I had the shrimp Alfredo with lobster bisque. I've found Frank's Grill to be The best authentic Italian food in all of the Florida Keys. The bread and high quality Olive oil are to die for and I love all the sauces. I think my 3 stars is plentiful and others are just being way too nice or maybe we didn't order the right things to really get the effect like the others in the reviews. The food is overpriced for what it is. There were a total of 5 shrimp in my shrimp Alfredo Lol I'll just leave it at that, the mozzarella sticks had a lot of breading that tasted like a whole lot of nothing also when we got there to pick up the food there was some lady worker that kept complaining about being there and she kept making remarks out loud about how doing certain things around the restaurant were not her job it's like customers don't care lady shut it and go to the back or go home if you don't want to be at your job. The only reason I give three stars is because the chicken Alfredo had way more protein and the tiramisu although not like a traditional tiramisu was good either way so there that's but overpriced for what it is really. read more

Watched " Check Please" on local tv last week and highly impressed. Drove from Ft lauderdale to Marathon for a couple of days with intent to dine at Franks Grill. Cute restaurant that looks like main building was once a motel in the 1960s. Had reservations and got there 1/2 hour early. No problem. Chicken Parmesan was good. Accompanied spaghetti was over cooked. Ordered penne with white clam sauce. Penne was over cooked to a point it was mushy. No fresh clams in shell. Just chopped clams (frozen??) Sauce was tasty though. Over rated for what "check please" tv show implied. Would I recommend or go back? NO. So disappointed. read more

Frank's Grill catered our wedding down in Marathon in March 2012. We shopped around and met with many caterers in the area before choosing Frank's Grill. We actually found Frank's Grill through all of the locals because everyone kept recommending the place. It's a hidden GEM! Frank was very friendly and nice to work with. The food was absolutely AMAZING and our guests are still talking about it. He was also very organized, professional, on time, and reasonably priced. We definetly feel that we got what we paid for...the quality and service was right on. We can't wait to go back for dinner when we are in the area again. His restaurant is not that big and fills up fast. Actually, I almost think reservations are required. That's how good it is! On vacation with husband...this is high caliber, authentic Italian food. The tomato sauce took me back to how my Italian grandmother made it...like fresh tomatoes run through a sieve with fresh basil. I had breaded and fried snapper that was perfectly cooked, delicate, with capers and artichoke in lemony delicate sauce. My husband had shrimp and scallops in tomato sauce. Service was friendly. i have been here for lunch once, it was very good. i wanted seafood pasta, so i was looking on yelp for suggestions. after reading the reviews, i decided to try it out. i got there, it was crowded, being i was alone i figured if they had a bar i would sit there. luckily they do, but it's only two seats, not really used as a real bar! i ordered half a carafe of the house chianti, reviewed the menu, didn't see what i wanted. i was talking to my waitress asking about seafood pasta, she started to say she will ask frank if he can do like a seafood pasta. as luck would have it, frank comes walking over to get a glass of water, she starts to ask him, i jump in and say no, no, it's to busy, before i could say anything else frank said... no problem, you want a lot of seafood? next thing you know, i have truly the best seafood fra diavolo possible! the lobster was unbelievably tender, the shrimp melted in my mouth, the calamari was delicious, the clams fantastic, mussels were perfect, even had pieces of delicate mahi mahi !!! i never have written a review like this but it was that good!!!! after i somehow managed to stuff it all in, i was hurting, but couldn't help myself it was to good not to eat. frank came out from the kitchen and asked me how it was? i couldn't stop thanking him for going out of his way while the restaurant was so busy, to make this amazing dish for me!! well he definitely got a new customer for life!!! read more

Who would have know a little gem like this is hidden in a corner parking lot?! We were on our last day out back to Texas when we decided upon having Frank's Grill for lunch. WOW! Absolutely delicious! The fresh, hot bread was a perfect starter and our dishes ranged from pastas to wings, all worth every bite. My wife and I were driving from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West on a Thursday evening back in November. We had been traveling all day and were getting very hungry. We didn't think we could wait to eat in KW so we decided to try and find a decent place to eat on the way down. Neither of us eat seafood and can't really stomach fast food so this was a little bit of a challenge. After a few misses, we found a yelp listing for Franks and thought we'd give it a try. Even though the site says to make reservations, we thought we'd risk it and just show up. Thought maybe on a Thursday in November it wouldn't be busy. We were wrong. They were full and people were waiting for tables. We thought we'd try anyway. Luckily since it was just the 2 of us, they offered to let us sit at the small bar in front where the cash register was. We didn't care so we said yes. Are we glad we did. The wait staff, though busy, were very friendly and cheerful. We ordered our food and watched as people came and went. It was clear this was a local favorite as everyone said hello to Frank the chef back in the kitchen. He was so friendly and appeared genuinely grateful for the guests eating at his place. When the food came it was fantastic. We got vodka penne and Spaghetti. Homemade pasta. Awesome. When we finished we thanked Frank the owner and he smiled and said thanks for coming in. Nice to have an owner who appreciates the business, but he certainly deserves it. A wonderful start to our anniversary trip. Perhaps the best we ate the whole trip. Thanks again Frank and your staff. Frank's is a small cozy place in a mini strip mall. They have good traditional Italian fare mixed in with whatever fresh catch of the day is available. Our server was pleasant and looked like she had been working there for 40 years. Hole in the wall with Great red sauce. Best chicken parmigiana I have had in a long time. The sausage is super authentic Italian. Not a huge fan of the lobster bisque it was literally New England clam chowder with crab haha. But their red sauce made up for it. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Great choice of starters and the classic primi piatti (pasta in all varitions) and secondi piatti (fish, seafood, catch of the day) in high quality. Had mussels Fra Diavolo over pasta, simply perfect. Wine list is short but good, took a while for the waitress to understand that white wine should served and kept cold, but finally we enjoyed the very nice Pinot Grigio. read more

Terrible! Based on the recommendation from friends and the Yelp reviews, we must have been at the wrong restaurant. Food was awful and not "fresh" as many reviews claim. We spend over $55 before tip for horrible food. The shrimp scampi had jarred, burned garlic and was swimming in oil. Our other entrée, the eggplant parmigana, looked and tasted like a dog's dinner. It was mushy, the sauce clumped with flour from over breading on the eggplant and the eggplant gray and slimey. The side of spaghetti with marinara had sauce out of a can on it. Both were inedible. We are vegetarian so dining out does have its challenges in the Keys. Frank's was recommended so we decided to try it. I had fettuccine Alfredo and hubby penne with pink vodka sauce. Both very good.
