We were here for a bachelorette Party and our reservation was at 7:30pm. We didn't get seated till 8:05pm. On top of that our server had an attitude and only talked to us 3 times until we finally got our food. We think he may be new but our water server has been extremely nice and more helpful than he has. Most of the time we couldn't even find him in the restaurant. On top of all this we FINALLY got our bread which comes at the beginning of a meal at 9:12 and then our food came out 5 mins later. Very displeased especially for this Bach party. Franks Outback is a great place for dinner. The food was fantastic. I was disappointed however that during this reopening after the pandemic the servers are not wearing masks. Not wearing masks is a risk to your customers. Please consider getting at least paper mask for all your servers. read more

The environment was unbeatable on the patio. The food however was not comparable to the ambiance. Me and two friends got the Mahi-mahi and we think one portion of fish and risotto was split into three portions. The fish and risotto was also extremely dry and we think the server forgot about us multiple times throughout the time (understandably the place was very busy). read more

Franks Outback is simply a great restaurant. Though a bit of a drive for those visiting Myrtle Beach, I believe it's worth it. I had the hangar steak, cooker perfectly medium rare. We ordered baskets of wonderful parmesan truffle fries and a tomato and mozzarella starter dish - all of which were wonderful. I regret not being able to review this place immediately after dining - so much gets lost a week after dining there. I also remember our waitress was top notch. We were a reasonably large party of 8 and had a nook all to ourselves. The only downside was that to get to our table you had to walk through the kitchen. It was just totally awkward - along with the heat rushing at you from the stoves and ovens, you had to be sure not to bump into any of the staff bustling back and forth. read more

My husband and I strolled in without a reservation on a weekend- big mistake. However, the manager created a seat for us at the old oak tree stump (they recently cut it down) bar and let us wait it out. We were told it would be 45 minutes but it was closer to 20 and we were led to the back where it was lit up with lights in the trees and nice and quiet. Perfect! We had ahi tuna nachos that were amazing and our entrees were, too. Service was also great. I think the best part is that the evening was just smooth sailing the whole way through. Beautiful and upscale decor and setting. Probably the nicest outdoor dining I've experienced. Although it was a hot July day in PI, the fans and cover kept it cool enough. The bar was fantastic for a drink with a large selection of wine and also great beers on tap (Yuengling, Blue Moon, Stella...). The service was outstanding. I suppose that Frank's Outback is one of the most expensive places to eat in Pawley's Island. I don't have an issue with that, except for the fact that each of the entrees ordered in my party were average (Lamb Chops, Tuna Steak, the "signature" Grouper). For a very expensive dining outing, the food wasn't exceptionally flavorful, well seasoned, or inventive. This was definitely a disappointment. My vote - GO to Frank's Outback, enjoy the classy atmosphere at the bar. You can appreciate the terrific service with an appetizer (shrimp and artichoke heart dish - awesome). Perhaps consider a pizza (there are many reasonably-priced options here), and a salad (delicious homemade dressings). Just skip the entree and save yourself $25-28 per person. read more

Frank's Outback has perhaps the most romantic atmosphere of any restaurant I have dined at. It is not on the water, however do not miss this. The whole Frank's Outback is outside, but with a huge cover. The interior is nicer than I could have imagined. Very stylish decor, plants, beautiful lamps, as well as soft quiet live music. There are a variety of table types, which give the restaurant even more added character. The food was excellent, and the service by our waiter was also excellent. It really killed me not to give this restaurant 5 stars, however there were a few issues that made that not possible. First, when we were "greeted" by the hostess, she was a bit snotty. She barely even lifted her head, even though no one else was there. When I realized she was not going to speak, I gave her our name, to which she simply looked at the seater, and told him our table number. Not a word to us. The other issue was, the bus boy spilled water all over our table, and one of the guests. This in itself is no big deal, these things happen, and in his defense, I am not sure he realized it got all over on of the guests. He did see it all over the table though, but never said a word, no apology, no clean up, he just went to the next table. While these small issues unfortunately kept me for rating as 5 stars, it is a 5 star restaurant, and if anyone asked me where to eat in this area, Frank's Outback would be my recommendation without hesitation. read more

This was our first time. The appetizers (the conch and the tuna poke) were excellent, unfortunately the entrees were not. The crab cake special was not lump crab as described but very minced and too much filler. The mashed potatoes were thin and watery. 2 years ago I married my husband and, for a wedding gift, a friend of mine gave us a $50 gift certificate that we just got around to using. We made an early reservation for 5 pm and we were sat promptly, right in front of the fire. It was a beautiful set up, although a little clumsy on the manager's part. It was chilly out, so I thought it would be lovely by the fire, but the fire was so hot it was burning my back. I had to move my chair around to the other side of the table to escape the heat. I should have asked to move tables but I hate being "that person". Just moving my chair was not enough because it was extremely hot throughout the dinner. Enough about the comfort though, more about the meal! We started off with the shrimp cocktail and we weren't disappointed. The shrimp were very large and the cocktail sauce had a great little kick. Both of us ordered the 6 oz filet with mashed potatoes leaving off the blue cheese sauce, since neither of us like blue cheese. I can honestly say, the seasoning and cook of my steak, veggies, and mashed potatoes were amazing! To finish the meal off, we ordered the key lime pie with Oreo crust and ate every last bite! Since I moved to FL, I might not be able to get back here to eat anytime soon. Although, if I come back to this area, I would love to! I would just ask for a seat not right in front of the fire. read more

I really wanted to love this place since it's right down the road from us and people sing such high praises. I will start out with the good. The server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Took very good care of our table. The ambiance is beautiful in the Outback. Then our food and drinks came and things went downhill. I ordered a strawberry fizz drink and it tasted similar to slightly less sweet koolaid. We got the jalapeño pimento cheese appetizer and the special appetizer of fried oysters. The fried oysters were delicious but the pimento cheese tasted like it came from a grocery store. We then ordered the shaved brussel sprout salad. It tasted like a garden and not in a good way. Very bland. No seasoning or flavor at all. I ordered the grouper which was good, nothing special. The bean side it came with was awful. No flavor whatsoever. My mom ordered the crab cakes and they were fishy tasting. Maybe they were having an off night but overall we were pretty disappointed with a mediocre meal at best. read more

We are a group of friendly neighbors who get together monthly to dine out at different restaurants around Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island. Last evening we tried Franks Outback. Surprisingly with a 5:30 pm reservation we found parking to be a challenge as this spot is quite popular. The ambiance is inviting with a variety of lush foliage. There are a couple of small ponds filled with goldfish. Upon seating we found the wait staff to be very attentive. Our drinks came very quickly and were very nicely prepared to say the least. This restaurant is NOT able to operate during COVID. Not a single server wearing a mask and I have heard that most of their staff has tested positive for coronavirus. Why are they open??? Well I hate to say it but our meal was mediocre at best! My filet was overcooked & tasted a bit like sawdust almost like they had used some sort of meat tenderizer on it which begs the question what??? The Brussels sprouts were mushy and Luke warm but hey the service was good. My husbands steak was large but just fair in both flavor and texture and his mushrooms were just ok that was all we had , so sauces or other sides ~ oh he had some bread which was just ok ~ the best thing was the beer he said and my wine was nice so for $170.00 + tip!!! The best dinner in Pawleys! The mahi and risotto is my go-to in the outback. The restaurant looks so festive with the Christmas decorations and remains warm with the outside heaters. Our waiter, Sarah, was so nice and welcoming. Cannot recommend enough if staying in the Pawleys area. And don't forget the caramel cake for dessert! read more

Best dinning experience we have had in Pawleys Island, SC, no make that SC! My wife and I had such a wonderful experience at Franks's this evening. The food, ambiance, service and the music made for a perfect evening. I have been here on numerous occasions with my golfing buddies, but this evening was my wife's first visit and she can't wait to come back! We have dined here many times over the years and it is always consistently great. We enjoy sitting at Frank's Outback for a more casual experience. The atmosphere is beautiful and well-lit. Our favorites are the salads and pizzas. They have a great drink selection. The staff is always very friendly. Definitely recommend but make a reservation ahead of time! Went for the first time tonight! We were so excited, I took my husband for his birthday. First let me say the waiter we had was awesome, he was friendly, very attentive, and knew what he was doing. However my husband ordered the $52 cowboy ribeye medium(it came out almost well done) even the waiter made a comment that it was too overcooked. We had the fried devil eggs and fried goat cheese balls and they were very good. I ordered scallops and we shared a side of cheese and bacon grits. They were all subpar. We then ordered 2 pieces of caramel cake because we've heard so many things about it. It and the apps were the best thing we had. The waiter even comped us one dessert because we didn't complain about the the steak. We of course tipped him over 20% because it was not his fault but for a $175 meal we expected excellent,, and honestly we could've gotten better food at Texas Roadhouse. read more

I hate to give Frank's a less than stellar review after finding and really enjoying a meal there last year. On the plus side, the 'Outback' area is very pleasant and the lush landscaping reminds one of a laid-back California vibe, unique for this area, but still with a local feel. The food and alcohol however was not outstanding, and it really should have been for the price. I ordered a 'dark and stormy' since I had enjoyed this drink in Bermuda, having discovered it on my honeymoon. Frank's version was weak and amounted to about a 10 oz cup, about half by volume of the Bermudian original. Disappointing when you've had the real thing. My daughter had the she crab soup, which came in a 6 oz. coffee mug, hardly 12 tablespoonfuls. She liked it but I've had much better. Her friend had the Parmesan truffle oil fries. They didn't eat but half. They didn't like them and these kids love fries. The fries put the 'string' in shoestring as they were the thinnest fries I have ever had, all crunch but no soft inside...they were too thin for that. Slightly burnt tasting. Perhaps it isn't fair, but I compare all Parmesan truffle oil fries with those from Hops in Greensboro NC, which are the best fries I have ever had, bar none. The girls shared the lobster ravioli. Again, the kids didn't give it high marks. I tasted them because I had them last year. The recipe has clearly changed. In fact I doubt they made these ravioli, as the texture and taste screamed 'canned'. The sauce was simply wrong...sautéed veggies in a clear tasteless sauce. It should have been a cream-based sauce. And it should have been flavorful. I ordered the seared scollops which were well prepared and tasty but for $13 I expected more than two smallish scollops. They were less than half the size that they should have been. And I feel the small plate should have come with a side but sides were a la carts at $6.50. After all was said and done we would have done better off ordering two entries at $30 each and sharing. I hate to write this, because last year I was impressed with everything I tasted at Frank's. The favors were outstanding as was the execution. I would like to write it off as them just having an off night, but I fear the real cause is that someone forgot to care. Very disappointed because Frank's can and has done better. I'll be looking for a new favorite place in Pawleys Island or go back to Lee's Inlet kitchen in Murrels Inlet. read more

Our group made a reservation at Frank's to celebrate our friend's upcoming marriage. Many of us had dined at Frank's in the past and had great experiences; however, this was not the Frank's we had in the past. Our reservation was at 8 PM for 10 people. Unfortunately, our waiter was rude and unaccommodating. We were made to feel rushed out and unwelcome. We were told that the restaurant was open "until" on Saturdays. We were out between 9:30 - 10 PM, which seemed reasonable for a group this size eating multiple courses. When asked if the checks would be separate the waiter was visibly irritated that they would be. When I asked for a dessert menu I was told they didn't have one. I know this is untrue because I have dined at Frank's before. When I asked for an extra condiment to-go the waiter told me that he didn't know if there was anyone there to get it for me with an attitude as such that we should be out of there by now. When the waiter came back with the requested condiment, I replied "thank you so much" and he replied "yeah yeah" and walked away. The waiter hastily scrapped extra food in a to-go box and did so with an attitude that conveyed he was irritated. When collecting the check presenters I said "I'm sorry, just a moment" and he snatched the book out of my hand and grazed another of our guests' face with it without an apology. Another staff member came back to pick up my payment. When the waiter returned the check presenters he made a smart comment about how mine wasn't ready at the time he came around. The pizza was dry and lacked sauce. One of the guests notified the manager on duty of our poor treatment and he told the guest making the reservation that he would be in contact with her within a few days. It has been 10 days and no contact has been made. I expected more from Frank's and was disappointed in this experience, especially since we were celebrating a big milestone in a friend's life. read more
