DO NOT COME HERE!!! I can't speak to all of the groomers here, but the man I dealt with today (Frank I believe) was disrespectful and did a bad job grooming my Goldendoodle. We got off on the wrong foot for a number of reasons: 1) he was texting and listening to music on his cell phone (with pets in the back) when I entered the store and didn't greet me until he was finished with his text; 2) he answered a call from a friend in the middle of our conversation; 3) I was quoted one thing on the phone and was then told that I was wrong (on the phone I was quoted $55 for my 20lb puppy and in the store they had written down $65 for a 15lb puppy). They simply apply the "customer is always wrong" anthem here. I wasn't worried about the $10, but I think honesty is extremely important in business. I decided to move forward with the appointment despite my reservations (which included my discomfort with the wall of liquor behind the cash register--by the way the owner owns a liquor store: Spirits of Cairo (https://www.yelp.com/biz/spirits-of-cairo-nys-cairo)) because I had already made the trip. It wasn't until after my visit that I realized they didn't even request my vaccination history, which is a violation of the NYC healthcode (http://www1.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/environmental/animals-healthcode.pdf)! HUGE RED FLAG! After spending 20-30 minutes telling Frank what I wanted -- and didn't want -- I left. He confirmed that he would only slightly trim my Goldendoodle's face and that he wouldn't cut her to look like a poodle. He also said he wouldn't cut her eyelashes or the hair on the outside of her ears and would just trim her face to reflect a photo we both looked at (see posted image). He did the exact opposite of everything we discussed (except he did a pretty good job keeping her eyelashes and her body looks great) and then defended himself by saying that sometimes customers are upset because they have a specific idea of what they want and we don't understand it (except that in this case we spent half an hour going over pictures of exactly what I wanted). I told him I was really upset with the result and he told me he "knew I was going to be trouble" because I was already upset about the misquote the owner gave me. (I have never in my LIFE heard anyone in any shop say this to any customer!) He followed that by telling me, "don't come back." As I told him then, don't worry, I won't and you shouldn't either. I was disrespected, taken advantage of and paid for a sub-par service once, which is enough for me. One last thing - my dog threw up within hours of coming home from this establishment, which never happens. I keep a very close eye on her and am certain she didn't get into anything at home. My understanding is that all of the dogs at Perfect Paws are held in a communal area. I can't speak to its cleanliness or the attention the dogs are given because I haven't seen it and wasn't there, but this is a little concerning. Frank did call me back to apologize and share that there wasn't anything she could get into at the store, which I really appreciate. read more

I think Tom and his staff are just fantastic. I have a rescue dog and she is really tentative around strangers, especially strangers that need to handle her for some reason. Tom is wonderful with her and I never feel sorry leaving her with him or having him groom her. Tom also has a background in animal nutrition, so he's given me lots of free information in the form of what kind of diet I can feed my dog, how to help her when she's sick etc. He's always friendly (as his staff) and willing to talk through any of my concerns, even if I'm not buying anything. I highly recommend this place. They also put on a great Halloween parade each year on the Brooklyn Promenade and give away prizes. And, they do lots of great work with area shelters. read more

I moved to Brooklyn last month from Long Island City, Queens and was in need of a new groomer for my two dogs. I yelped a few places and decided to go with Perfect Paws. I'm glad I did! From the friendly staff to the grooming, everything was wonderful. When I came to pick up my dogs, the gentleman (forgot his name) spoke to me about the dogs during the grooming process and how they have minor trust issues and being handled during the session--something I already knew but something my past groomers never mentioned--but if I brought them back on a regular basis, building trust was something we could work on. To me this shows they actually care about building relationships with clients and their dogs, not just making money. I paid $75 + tax + tip for each of my dogs--a yorkie and a maltese (neither of them matted, which is understandably an additional fee to demat). I think their prices are reasonable but still more than I was paying in my old neighborhood. To be fair, I've contacted places that charge $100+ for a small dog grooming. Admittedly I still have my favorite groomer in East Village and will drive there to get my dogs groomed. With that said, I would still recommend Perfect Paws if you want to stay local! read more

Tom knows dogs and is a very talented groomer. I walk my dog an hour from Park Slope to see him every 6-8 weeks, and as you can see from this photo he has a fabulous, traffic stopping mohawk. 9 times out of 10 Micky has come out of there soft as velvet and smelling like lavender. I can tell by how he struts on the way home that he knows he looks good. There has only been one instance in 3 years where I haven't been more than happy with the job. I suspect it's because they squeezed him in at the last moment and he didn't get all the time he usually gets so I would book in advance they are only open for grooming Thur - Sunday and get busy. They won't put your dog in a cage if s/he won't go in one. I have had a surly comment from one who answers the phone here and there but that won't keep me away. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Perfect Paws and their staff. Tom is the owner and he is fantastic. Aaron is also great (those are the two guys I've worked with). It is clear that Tom truly loves animals and grooming ... his passion is obvious when you talk with him and see how much time he takes to get to know your dog and what you want. I have a BIG white golden doodle with curls that become quite unruly, quite quickly. I did NOT want to shave him down but other groomers in the area insisted that I had to. Then I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to give Tom a try. He took a great deal of time with Buzz (my dog) and I. He was able to de-matt (is that a word?) him and make him as good as new! And Buzz absolutely LOVES it there so I know it's been a good time for him also. They let the dogs run around and play with each other as they slowly take them through the grooming process, which is great ... makes it fun for the dogs. When I picked Buzz up, Tom spent a good 15/20 minutes with me explaining / showing me how to groom him at home so I could wait a little longer between grooming ... it's not cheap for a 70lb dog. I highly recommend these guys ... I wouldn't think of taking Buzz any where else! read more

I once took my dog to pet smart to be groomed and he was completely traumatized. I took him to perfect paws and they were amazing. Not only does my 9year old dog look like a puppy again- so clean and soft and silky, but he left with his tail wagging. He was happy and loved everyone at perfect paws because they have an amazing gentle approach. My neurotic dog will never go anywhere else. They were able to give me an appointment the same day I called and accommodated me when I called back and asked for an earlier time. My first visit to Perfect Paws was over the summer. Earlier this year I had taken my pooch to a neighborhood establishment, needless to say my long haired dog came out looking like a chihuahua . The first thing I noticed about Perfect Paws is Tom's attentive nature, he comes out to meet & greet customers. Tom will also ask a ton of questions about your dog. I got the impression that my dog was being serviced by knowledgeable PROFESSIONALS rather part-time "helpers" who are unable to answer any of your questions. My dog came out looking great, the cut was MASTERFUL, the hair was shorter and neat but the dog still looked like an adorable powder puff. We've taken our dog to a few places in Brooklyn (see another review for a nearby B-Heights place), with shady (shavie?) outcomes. We were pleased (and I think our dog, too) with Perfect Paws. I was reassured that he wouldn't be put in a kennel, and that I was listened to about how I wanted him to be groomed. He came away looking much better and happier for it, his owners too. He was a little grumpy and twitchy and morose afterwords, but I think that's only because we'd left his grooming so long and it was a big shock for him as an outcome. I have no doubt he received optimal care, and with additional useful advice from Perfect Paws, the next time won't be quite as traumatic. read more

Was able to get a same-day appointment for our shitzu's haircut, bath, nails, ears, etc. on a Saturday (he did say it's rare, but it worked out with his schedule). since we got out first dog, we've been going to them to get our 3 y/o Shiba-Inu, Keiko and recently our 10month old German Shepherd, Major, nails trimmed, every few months. Knowing Keiko, she's a screamer. She doesn't like to be held except by me but when they took her in the back after a few minutes,she's back outside with us! We thought there was a problem but they were actually done with her with no problems at all! Same with Major, on his first time getting trimmed. Today we just got home from getting Major groomed since its hard for me to give him a bath in our small bath tub. We told them he's really not good with other dogs around so they suggested we get the last appt of the day which is at 3pm so we did. Plus its his first time getting groomed, we're not sure how he will be reacting. After almost two hours, we went to picked him up and they have explained what they observed when they were grooming him. He's a shy dog, when they were about to dry him, Major didnt like the blow dryer so he needed extra time to dry in the kennel. They have also given us a "first timer grooming bag" that came with biscuits and a few other discount coupons of not only for their store but also the small businesses - restaurants & shops around the neighborhood. i really felt our dogs are in great hands with them. not a lot of people know what a Shiba Inu breed is but when they saw Keiko they knew what to expect with her. They are very knowledgeable and has given us great tips every time we go there. read more

Found my new go-to groomer! My cat is prone to matting so we like to keep him in a lion cut. He's a bit of a handful and we've had countless groomers tell us that he's a challenge to groom and we've even had someone give up halfway through. Tom gave him a great cut in less than 30 minutes. I anxiously waited while he worked his magic and my cat didn't make a single peep (totally unusual). This guy truly is the cat whisperer. Will definitely be going back. read more

[Repost of review from 7/12 as it wasn't showing up] Being new to the neighborhood and also new to being dog parents it was important that we picked a good groomer for our two Dachshunds' first visit to a groomer. One of our Dachshunds is blind and he usually gets nervous when he hears voices that aren't ours and will try to run away, but Tom picked him up and he didn't fidget and was totally calm and relaxed, which was a very good sign. We had their nails clipped and both got baths. When I went to pick them up they both came up front from the back looking happy and clean. Our other Dachshund didn't want to leave, she wanted to stay in back and play some more, which was also another reassuring sign that the groomer took great care of our dogs while they were there. They were both really clean and their nails were nicely clipped with no signs of any quicks being cut. [People that were complaining about your dogs not smelling like shampoo --- they're not supposed to, and if they do it means they haven't been properly rinsed] The pricing was great, much less than I expected, and everyone at the groomer's shop was friendly. We've had difficulty finding toys that the blind one likes, and in the Perfect Paws goody bag for first-time customers was a little stuffed butterfly, and when we got home he immediately started playing with it. All in all we couldn't have been happier with the experience and we will definitely be taking the kids back to Perfect Paws on a regular basis. read more

Found Perfect Paws on Yelp, and after reading lots of rave reviews, made the appt. Dog looks great, they did a terrific job. I have a foster (Coconut) who is extremely fearful of razors and scissors. I tried grooming him myself (I have lots of experience from my first beloved dog), but got nowhere since he kept growling and biting me. I was sure Tom would return him as is, but I was pleasantly shocked to see Coconut with a perfect hair cut. Even on the face where he was especially fearful of scissors. And they do not put dogs in cages while they wait to be washed and trimmed which put me more at ease. If you have a dog who is afraid of strangers, scissors, razors, grooming, etc. see Tom! best. groomer. ever. My dog was mishandled while getting her nails cut at the vet and since then freaks out when anyone tries to touch her paws. I've taken her to several groomers in the city but she would not let anyone touch her until I found perfect paws. Tom (the owner) and his entire staff are true animal lovers. Upon arrival, they listened to all my concerns and instructions and reassured me she will be treated properly. They showed me the grooming area and I just had to laugh at all the dogs running free. I think they're the only groomers that don't cage/crate the dogs. There's enough staff so the dogs aren't out of control. Every dog is handled with so much love and care that even the most traumatized mess of a dog like mine can be properly groomed. I was shocked the prices were so reasonable because of all the time and effort they spent on her. (about 50 dollars with no tip. I tipped around 20 dollars because my dog was difficult and they spent about three hours with her) Definitely worth the trip out to Brooklyn because no groomer in the city compares. read more

I had decided to give Perfect Paws a try to groom our Brussels Griffon mix, he had previously been groomed at 1-2 different places in Manhattan, but we wanted a local place in Brooklyn after moving. I was easily able to get a grooming appointment mid-week at Perfect Paws, and when we arrived, the place was empty. I described in detail how I wanted our pup to be groomed. The good news is that the female groomer (I did not catch her name) seemed good at putting my pup at ease, and when I picked him up, he was quite happy. The bad news is the grooming job itself. She barely trimmed his face, and his body was left longer than I'd like. His sanitary trim seemed quite sloppy compared to what he usually gets (from day one he would get things stuck in his fur after pooping). His nails did not appear to be cut at all! The worst part was when I brought him home and found a large shave mark on his neck (not immediately noticeable when I picked him up because it was behind his ear). Perhaps she tried to shave him and made a mistake by taking off too much? It was literally an area that was nearly shaved down to the skin. The reason I am going into so much detail is that for $65+, I expect a much better job than what was done. I see that many of the glowing reviews are from the work of the owner or other staff, so maybe I just had a more inexperienced person? The grooming was, in my opinion (and compared to the other places we have taken our pup) was sloppy. If you mention yelp, they do give a discount off the first grooming, and they gave us a little 'welcome' bag on the way out, which was a nice thought. I only wish the grooming job was better so that I would have more positive things to say. read more

Moved to the neighborhood just over a year ago, consider myself a good customer, in 13 months, had my dog groomed 6 times and 5 baths. Today I brought her in for a Bath, when I called yesterday, they asked me 3 times, "Just a bath," I told them yes, as she was just formed a little over a month ago. While I was there, I as mentioned that when the groom her, the head has been left a bit full, and in the future to please make a but shorter. My wife, a small business owner and a high powered exec went to pick her up. When she got there, she asked who to make the check out to and how much. She was a bit flawed when the price was about 3 times higher than I told her for a bath. They said they groomed her and that is what I asked for, Needless to say, this was not at all accurate. I will not go into details, but the owner was extremely nasty with her and told her "you are never satisfied, and to never come back"! Wow, to say she (and I when I heard this) was absolutely shocked! I have never been anything other than nice, complementary (once told them her eyes were not clean when I got her) and always sure to tip. This is rude and no way to run a neighborhood small business. I felt the need to write about this, perhaps you may just want to avoid using Perfect Paws, they are far form PERFECT! I just had a horrible experience here and am writing my first Yelp review as a result. I spent 15 minutes with the girl at the front desk telling her exactly how I wanted my dog groomed - 2 inches long all the way around and a bit longer on the head and beard. I got my dog back and it is the worst haircut ever! The length of his hair is different on every part of his body (no place is is less than 3 inches!) and they did not cut his head at all. The hair on his head is 6 inches long! He is so uneven, I can't even begin to figure out what they were trying to do. He still looks like he needs to see the groomer. Also, the owner, Tom, was rude and difficult claiming he "spent 4 hours on my dog" when I got a call 2 hours after I dropped him off. And, when I went to pick him up, the price was more than double the quote I received when I dropped him off. Their head groomer - the only one who got good review from the neighborhood - recently quit and I can see why! This place is a big ripoff with shady business practices. I got rescheduled for "food poisoning" when they did a movie shoot in the store and gave everyone the day off, was scammed on the price, the credit card machine was "broken" when they called to say he was ready, but worked when I arrived. And, most of all, the owner was rude and told me "to never bring my dog back again." What a way to win customer's loyalty. I advise you to stay far away from this place! read more

Tom is the only groomer I take my dog to. He does a great job every time and I love that my dog gets to run around with other dogs after he is done, instead of being stuck in a cage. He grooms my dog exactly the way I ask, and is very friendly and reasonable. One thing- a woman who worked there groomed my dog once and I wasn't happy-looked like she cut my dog's nails too short and it might have hurt, so I stick with Tom. read more

I want to start this post by saying wow Frank really offers A-1 service I've had my American Bully Now for 3 years and I always wash her myself I go through a hassle of picking up hair in the tub drying and brushing her out I never seem to fully dry her off my little lady Sugar deserved a spa day so I looked up Frank's Perfect Paws on yelp and decided he was a perfect fit for me since I have a very busy schedule at work. Frank showed up in the time frame he said he was very polite and made me feel at ease with me giving him my little princess sugar he took her for about 1 hour and bring her back to me looking like a diamond I don't think I've ever seen her look so good the smell she gave off her attitude you could tell she loved the spa treatment she had just received give perfect Paws a chance and Trust me when I tell you you're going to be very happy with your pets overall appearance smell and attitude. read more
