When I had asked if I could substitute a veggie for the salad, Frank, the owner came to our table and asked if I was the nasty lady. He stated that if I was, he didn't want me there. He was loud and obnoxious. Proceeded to tell me the price of broccoli vs. salad. My partner and I were in a state of shock. We ended up paying for our drinks and leaving. I'm really sad to write this review. We went to Frank's the other night for the 4th or 5th time, and before this we've always enjoyed it. After our last experience, we won't be back. We went on Friday night. It was slower than I've ever seen it. Each dining room was just over half full. We had a reservation for 7pm but called ahead to let them know we were running late and wouldn't be there until 715pm. Since it was pretty slow, we were seated immediately. We had a party of 4, and we were given one menu because the hostess said they were out of menus. We sat down and we waited. And waited. And waited. After about 15 minutes of trying to flag down the many waiters who walked by and ignored us, we got the hostess's attention. My husband told her we still hadn't been greeted or been given water and asked who our waiter was. She said she'd find out. She came back and told us our waiter's name, then walked away. She answered our exact question, I suppose. Our friends arrived right around then, and we continued trying to flag down anyone to help us. After another 10 minutes or so (25 min total since we sat down), we managed to catch a waitress. We told her what was going on, she apologized profusely and told us she'd get our waiter. She came back not two minutes later with bread and water for the table and promised our waiter was on the way. Several minutes later he materialized. No apology for making us wait, no introduction, just asked if he could take our order. Our waiter was one of the people who we had attempted to flag down a bunch of times. The entire time we waited, he was extremely attentive and constantly going back and forth to the party of 8 well-dressed older people at the table next to us. We never got the appetizer we ordered, but our salads came out in a reasonable amount of time. We waited an hour from the time we ordered (1.5 hours total from when we sat down) for our entrees. During that time I ordered wine which never appeared. We had to ask to have our water refilled 3-4 times before it was refilled. At one point I asked him for the water refills we'd requested 3 times already, and he sarcastically responded "3 times?", then walked away in a huff. We also asked for bread refills that he seemed irritated about. I get being irritated at the jerks filling up on free bread, but we would have preferred to have paid for and received the appetizer we ordered . The food finally came and my wine (which at that point I had asked for multiple times) still hadn't arrived. So I asked for it again. The waiter looked at me like I had 3 heads and asked me to remind him of my order. We also asked for water refills and pepper flakes, which didn't come until we asked someone else. Halfway through the meal, my wine still hadn't arrived. At that point we spoke with the owner (who we had spoken with before we had complaints and he was lovely). He was completely unapologetic. He told us that an hour is how long good Italian food takes. I guess this was the first time I had good Italian food at Frank's, because I never waited more than half an hour for my food on previous visits. And on those visits the restaurant was packed. He also told us our waiter is new and overworked, so it's not his fault. But the owner didn't take responsibility for being short staffed. He dismissed it as something we just need to deal with. I waited tables for years, and I get that some nights are just bad nights. But I watched our waiter fawn all over the table next to us and then breeze right by us while we struggled to get his attention. I told the owner that and he just kind of shrugged his shoulders. I also mentioned that I was still waiting for wine I ordered half an hour before I even got my food, and then ordered again multiple times. Five or ten minutes later our waiter came over with my wine, and the owner followed with another glass because he didn't realize the server had already brought the wine. On the way out of the restaurant, I walked past the owner speaking with the waiter, and heard the waiter saying "Well they spent like $30 and the table next to them spent $250, who would you have taken care of?" First, even if we had spent only $30, that's no way to treat any customer. Second, at the end we spent about $80. We planned to and would have ordered multiple glasses of wine each, after-dinner drinks, and dessert, which would have doubled our bill. But since it took until the end of the meal to get one glass of wine, we didn't have the chance (or the patience to wait anymore). This is the first time I've ever considered not tipping a waiter. I'm not a jerk, so he still got 20%. Crappy waiters have to pay bills too. But the horrible service coupled with the owner's dismissive attitude means we won't be returning. It's really too bad because Frank's was one of our favorite places for a nice meal. By the way, the food was excellent as usual, thus the 2 stars. read more

Our family had heard so much about Frank's restaurant that when everyone had a day off we decided to go there for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Wow - we loved it! The ambience is lovely and warm. The food was excellent - from pizza to lasagna to eggplant Parmesan to lobster ravioli. Unfortunately there was only 1 waiter working who also was cashing out the to go orders and getting the drinks so the service was a little slow. But before we paid our bills we all said it was definitely one of our favorites and worth the 25 minute drive! Thanks for a wonderful dining experience! read more

We went there with family to celebrate a marriage. We had called several days in advance for a reservation. We arrived on time and had to wait about 15-20 minutes in the bar area. We were seated and the server came over to get our drinks. It took a solid 30 min to get drinks and sadly some of them didn't even come. We put in our appetizer order which consisted of 2 bruschetta platter and an octopus appetizer and some aracini...it took about an hour for the apps to come out one at a time and we were told after we waited an hour that the aracini was sold out. Whatever. We had placed our dinner order about the same time as our apps bc we noticed it was taking awhile. When the salads that came with our dinner finally came out they were served with the same dressings even though some of us had ordered different ones. When the meals FINALLY came out they were ok. It was abundantly obvious that the food had sat in the window forever. A med-rare steak was well done and the other entree left alot to be desired. That being said the server was new and it was clear that she was crashing and burning. I guess what upset me more than the sub-par food and experience is that the poor girl didn't receive and back up that I could see. I've worked in a restaurant for many years and I am aware that this does happen...however the Front of House manager or the owner or whoever should have been able to recognize this if they were paying attention to tables and could have prevented this issue in it's entirety. Had the worst ever dining experience if you'd even call it that. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait and told to go to the bar. Bartenders were great and very attentive. We enjoyed two glasses of wine and then waited. After one of the bartenders reminded the hostess that we were there for an hour and a half we were seated in a quaint table for two next to a door that constantly opened. The very sweet waitress came to the table and took our drink and dinner order and said it would be ready soon. After having yet another glass of wine and being told our entrees would be right out another hour goes by. After 3 hours of waiting to eat dinner I had lost my appetite and patience. Our waitress told us the meals were coming out and by then we had enough . We took our meals to go. We were then told that it was okay to do that and that the reason that we had waited 3 hours was because the speidie fest was cancelled. I live in the town of Maine and I have given Frank's three tries since it has opened and each time I've been more disappointed than the last time. Needless to say, I will NEVER give them my business again. Last night our entire road had no power (a whopping 17 people) so we decided to order takeout since we couldn't cook or use the water. We asked for 2 orders of pasta with red sauce and one order of chicken parm and were told it would be 30 minutes, so no biggie. After 30 my parents stopped by to pick up the food and were told it wasn't ready yet so they sat down to wait. Thirty minutes later, our order was FINALLY ready. There was another women sitting near my parents who had been waiting even longer and she had also called in her order in advance. When they rang up our food the total came to almost $40! Keep in mind, we ordered regular pasta and one chicken parm.....that's it. We were shocked by the cost (I must have had an old menu at home). When my parents show up with our food, the bread was literally thrown in the bottom of the bag and the rest of our food was put on top of it, squishing the bread. The pasta seemed old, like it had been cooked hours before and had been sitting out. When you stuck a piece with a fork it would immediately break in half. The chicken parm was drowning in sauce and also tasted like it had been sitting for quite a while. We were extremely disappointed. And since I'm here.....a few years ago we ordered pasta with pesto sauce, and after waiting almost an hour when we were told it would be 20 minutes, we got home with a takeout container so full of oil that you couldn't even see the pasta. It was vile and I actually got sick from it, and that was even after draining most of the half inch deep layer of oil off the top of the pasta. I know people rave about this place, but three strikes is my limit. The owner is rude and arrogant when anyone complains or raises concerns about the food and the service is not that great. Needless to say, my family will never give Frank's our business again. I am writing this review on Yelp because I have previously left a 5 star review 2 years ago on Google. But tonight, it was a much different set of circumstances. It was recommended to me upon arrival, by Frank himself, that I should order the ribeye steak "Grandpa Style". What is this you ask? It's a 16 oz prime ribeye coated in olive oil and breadcrumbs and then grilled. Ok, sounds amazing. Never heard of such a thing. I'll have that. The waitress, who's name was Amy btw, acknowledged my choice as being one of the house favorites. When dinner arrived, I was presented with a beautiful ribeye and mashed potatoes. However, there was absolutely nothing resembling a bread crumb on my dish. We all know what a piece of meat dredged in breadcrumbs looks like. Nope, this was just a plain old ribeye. It was beautiful and delicious. However, not what I ordered. And I wouldn't be so upset about it if it wasn't for the fact that I didn't want to have steak tonight. I wanted an Italian dish. But I was swayed by something so different. So why are you pissed off Chris? I'll tell ya why. Because the waitress, who acknowledged my order as a house favorite, then decided to condescendingly tell me I was wrong that the ribeye only comes one way. Oh, I'm sorry. Maybe take a glance at your god damn menu. There's 4 different options as to how you want it prepared. Then, when she admitted she was wrong, that the ribeye does come "grandpa style", she states as she hands us the bill "I'm sorry I screwed up you don't have to leave me a tip". Who says that?! Totally unprofessional. And when I approached Frank the owner to explain what had happened, Amy once again decided to chime in " I told you not to leave me a tip because I screwed up". And she said it right over Frank's shoulder. That's poor management on his part. I wasn't looking for anything for free, because I did eat the meal and it was good. But I would like to be treated with a little professional courtesy. Bottom line, thanks for not taking care of your customers and allowing your staff to be completely unprofessional. People need to know. If you want a good meal and polite, professional service, there are plenty of other options in the Southern Tier. read more

The service at Frank's is below average. The hostess was rude and snarky and even pushed through our party as we were going to the bar for our wait. She stopped on the stairs to yell at a server and turned out and shoulder checked me on her way down the stairs. The bartender with the hat was extremely rude and yelled at our party because we were not moving down like cattle fast enough. We ordered two of the same drinks but with different liquors, which he ended up making with the same and when asked, he was argumentative and tried to pull it off that they were different. The food was subpar for a fine Italian dining. We ordered the lamb special, and while the lamb was perfectly cooked, they forgot to season the meat and it had zero taste. Our waiter was very pleasant. We were there for 3 hours and I know fine italian dining does take time, but the food was not good and 4 orders were just pasta. I've eaten at Frank's many times and had wonderful food and service. My issue today is I started calling for reservations at 3 PM when the website indicated they opened. The phone rang incessantly with no answer. I even tried the takeout number but no answer. After an hour and a half of this frustration, I actually drove to the restaurant to try to make a reservation. Arriving at 5 PM, the place was shut down and locked up. The digital sign out front shouted "OPEN" and advertised a special on pizza. Not a soul in sight. The website did not indicate that they were closed or on vacation. Their phone number did not have a message saying they were closed. This is the poorest form of management I've ever seen. It takes very little effort to update a website and an answering machine. Shameful. And on that basis, I give only 2 stars. Please up your game because you are not making any friends. Good food and service only goes so far. read more

The most disgusting restaurant with the most disgusting owner as well. Every single plate, fork, and cup I've ever gotten was gross and unclean, as if they were just dipped under the sink and put on the table. The food was sub par, but the unsanitary habits here especially during covid were horrible. The owner Frank is rude, childish, and extremely condescending. Overheard multiple racist, sexist, and rude remarks from him while he was sitting in the bar watching the news while his waitstaff waited for him to make drinks. Also overheard him being rude to his own staff and complaining like a child about everything. Where the HELL did this place come from? The food that comes out of Frank's kitchen is not only the BEST food within 100 miles of Binghamton it would hold its own against any of the big hitters in Boston's Italian North End. I grew up with my fork in bowls of spaghetti from Cortese, Consols, and Little Venice, so in my humble opinion, his company of italian cuisine in Binghamton is intense. But Frank's is in a different league. As Bingo Italian food is typically known for their thin, but flavorful immigrant style, Frank puts out authentic, fresh, and as I run out of adjectives, simply ridiculous food. He is what the world would call raw, unrefined talent. And his prices are low - very low. I have been to Frank's twice but fortunate to have been in large parties of very generous to share people. Although everything from the peppers and veal to the meatball sub deserves a review, I will simply discuss my dishes. The english translated 'Fruit of the Sea' is a zesty, cioppino like red sauce pounded with Mussels, Clams, Scallops, and Shrimp over spaghetti. It is heaven. I just find something so soothing about eating a muscle or clam, using its shell to sip the rich, zesty red sauce and then complementing it with a glass of my own (BYO with a $1.50 corking fee) wine. My second dish was an off the menu choice of Osso Buco. Prepared and served over a plate of vegetables and a smooth, broth like gravy, the Veal shank shredded like tender salmon, held up on the fork, and melted in my mouth. The meat was seasoned just enough to reveal the young, tender flavors of the Veal and had the perfect fat/lean ratio. And as I used some of the grilled garlic bread to absorb the juices and hold the remaining marrow, I simply couldn't get enough. Although the food deserves the spotlight, The 'its all relative clause' of the rating scale has been implemented for Frank's because there are a few things that just wouldn't fly in a big city. - The first being the service. I certainly wouldn't say it's bad, just a little slow... But no fear, the slowness is trumped by their smiles. The wait staff is so friendly in fact that they often ask their most friendly customers if they have ever considered a career in waiting. From what I hear from Frank, who regularly visits with his tables, his 'wait staff' is just his friends and family who are working for tips to help out. The result is slow service, but the smiles are plentiful and free. - The decor is 'homey' but inconsistent from one room to another. The lights are bright, and although unanimously preferred among my guests, I actually prefer a dimmer on the lights to give the old Italian Mafia feel which Endicott is known for. - The location SUCKS... I mean seriously out in the boondocks... That being said, it is worth the drive any and every day of the week. - The last thing I would like to see from Frank's is a different salad program. He proves he can get fresh seafood and meat so I would have to imagine he can get the produce needed for a more substantial dinner salad. It was definitely fresh - no complaints on that end, but it is boring and very reminiscent of the iceberg lettuce and chunk of tomato you get from the rest of the areas italian joints. read more

Just finished dinner and as the food was good, the service was terrible. It took 30 minutes to get our drinks when we ordered. They never brought us our refill of garlic bread that she was going to bring. At the end one person in our party asked for their leftovers to be boxed up to go and they never brought it back. We approached the server and she claims she brought it to us which we told her to point on the table where it is. We will definitely not be going back or recommend this place to anyone else. This has been the worst "fine" dining experience in all of my life. We had a reservation for 7 people at 6:30, and didn't receive our meals until 2 hours later, and unfortunately not all of us. One woman of our party didn't receive her pizza until 15 minutes after everyone received their meal. In addition to that, the forgot appetizer, which finally arrived with a hair in it. After 2.5 hours, once we all received our checks, we attempted to speak to the owner who managed to completely insult our party, saying "we give nothing for free". We certainly weren't expecting a free meal, however a bit of respect and communication would have been appreciated. For an owner to wave his hand in my significant others face, is completely inappropriate and unprofessional. Again, our party spent $500.00, and an iota of respect and customer service would have gone a long way. Again, will we return- not even for a free meal, if it took half the time. Franks is probably my all time favorite restaurant. The food is awesome, the staff is great and the price is on point. I would highly recommend the gnocchi in the Alfredo sauce, not commonly offered other places but so good. However, dont ever tell the owner that there is something wrong with your food. He will not consider nor ask for your side as to why you are unhappy with it. Instead, you'll be aggressively told you are wrong, scolded, and called dumb for sending the food back. Not to mention, the waiter was openly called stupid when he/she did nothing but help and accommodate us with respect. The more reviews I read, the more I see that it's a reoccurring problem with the disrespect you receive from the owner when bringing up any concerns with the food or service. It's a a shame that a restaurant with such potential is ruined by unprofessional and inappropriate treatment of staff and customers. read more

Excellent! Frank himself came up and talked with us for a while. Really nice guy. Food was great. I got the seafood couscous which was a very large portion and had a ton of seafood in it. My family and I recently dined At Frank's italian restaurant for something new. The triple cities are loaded with many great traditional Italian restaurants at Which we have dined for years, but unfortunately Frank's didn't come close to living up to our expectation. We initially had a reservation but still had to wait nearly 30 minutes to sit. once seated we waited approximately 75-80 minutes for our food to arrive and when it finally did, we were underwhelmed to say the least. my wifes pasta dish came out barley room temp and she wasn't Satisfied but held her tongue And finished about Half of her meal. I ordered a medium rare ribeye steak with a side of broccoli. My meal had just as many problems. the steak was somewhere Between medium well and well done(not close to medium rare), and the broccoli was over cooked and just not of good quality. Our server was apologetic and very nice; but from our dialogue and what I witnessed the restaurant was struggling to accommodate the other fellow restaurant goers, despite not ever appearing that busy. At this point I was frustrated and had hoped to get my meal off the check, pay, and leave. I was even more surprised to find out that the owner refused to take anything off the check or even converse with us; though we saw him freely moving about the restaurant without a mask. Finally in defeat I paid in full for one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. "I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it". So stated my wife several times in the car after leaving Frank's Restaurant. I'm not going to dwell on the details of what went wrong, instead I'll summarize by saying that it was a litany of issues from the time of the reservation to the time we were given the bill. Our party of four retirees decided to address the matter to the manager to enable him to fix the problems. It was done in a gentle, compassionate manner. The manager listened carefully and responded in a like manner, even offering credit for one of the salads that had not met expectations. We did not ask for the credit. The manager did a very good job. Then the owner appeared at our table. At first we all thought he was joking as he harangued one of our party. Then it became obvious it was no joke at all. Frank was in his face, rude, loud, bullying, and obnoxious, essentially throwing us out of the restaurant for having the temerity to voice a complaint. We were told to never come back. Such advice was superfluous as it is a given that we will never go back and I will not hesitate to tell friends and family of our experience. Went Saturday night with a friend. It was super busy. Took a bottle of wine because they're a BYOB place. Called ahead for preferred seating. Getting a table took about 15 minutes, which was fine. Everyone in line had their own alcohol too. We ordered the red sauce mussels app, the tomato mozzarella salad, and lasagna. Everything was OK - just OK. The mussels were a little fishy and there was no fusion with the sauce - the sauce was good but it tasted like mussels thrown into sauce at the last minute. The tomato mozzarella salad promises great things, but it came out SO cold that it took quite a while to have any flavor - they must plate them ahead and then chill them for hours - waiting ten minutes helped, but that was only OK. Finally, the lasagna was decent - totally a meat-based traditional recipe, which can be fine, but it didn't make me wonder how they created such a great dish or anything like that. Will I go back? Probably someday, but not any time soon. Parking for this place is less than ideal. It's across the street in an unpaved lot with a sea of mud puddles. Don't wear anything fancy on your feet. In retrospect, I suspect that most people go here because they can bring their own alcohol and save money. read more

I can go to dinner and be waited on for what it costs to get take out. I asked for a portion cup of sauce they wanted to add $1.50 more to an $11.00 sandwich. Even though I really like their food the value isn't there. I found my pizza order ticket melted into the center of my pizza. Unless Frank is there people aren't really that friendly. I'm now looking for a new favorite pizza place. I know the focus is fine dining but I really liked the pizza shop side when it was there, since that side closed it just hasn't been the same. read more
