I have always liked going to Frank's, my family (two boys) specially do because they can pay for free on there game machine. Now they have expanded and upgraded. Even better. We used to love it, but now we hate it. We will never go to Frank's again. Went there for a nice little Friday lunch date, and ended up just sitting there and waiting the entire time. After 15 minutes, we finally got our beverages, and another 15 before we put our order in, and another 35 minutes until there was any other communication with the "server." We then had to ask for our order 'to-go' because it had already taken so long and don't have all day to wait. This being on my lunch break, my lunch time was already up before we even had our order in. Didn't have time to even eat the food before rushing back to work. Later that evening I decided to give it a try, and there was hardly anything on the burger.. I ended up throwing all of the food in the trash where it belongs. Worst service overall that I have ever witnessed in my entire life. A simple little lunch date was turned into a frustrating and disappointing nightmare of an experience. Never again. Not a horrible place, but not really great either. The staff is usually younger and not very attentive. But realize, it's a little food place that has been in Zeeland for a while. If you were to move it out, it would flop. Burgers are kinda greasy and bland, fries are often greasy and soaked (frozen bag fries). The burger meat needs to be revamped. It's one step above (maybe not) of what you can by frozen from GFS. So it's just a basic place for basic food that anyone above the age of 15 can cook. Nothing has changed in the 10 years I've lived here. The larger issue, there are places like public, tripel root, salt and pepper, elbow room that are offering far better options. Just don't go here expecting anything and you'll be fine. It's one step above a McDonalds. In regards to price, you pay about $8 for a BBQ burger and then add another $2 for fries, go next door and that same combo is $11, the difference.. significant quality in that $1 extra. Great place for a burger! They even have a gluten free bun available. Old style soda shop layout with counter to eat at, old fashion jukebox playing oldies. It was a cool, crisp fall afternoon when my two friends and I set out for Zeeland, eager to sit down for a mid to high end dinning experience at Public. When we arrived, we were disappointed to find our restaurant of choice would not be open for another three hours. Turning our attention to the other side of the street, we decided to venture into Frank's, a quaint, small town diner. Having not eaten since the night before, we were famished and our requirements for a suitable dining option had been lowered considerably. Given our lowered expectations, I would've thought there was no way for Frank's to disappoint. Sadly I was mistaken. Given the signs and newspaper clippings making evident the fact that the restaurant had remained a fixture of the downtown community for 50 years, I assumed that our food would be the result of generations of culinary experimentation, customer feedback and sampling of various local ingredients. Typically establishments that have operated for half a century have endured the test of time. This is not the case with Franks. Much like an awkward first date or your grandparents' racist beliefs, Frank's needs to go. The appearance of their menu and failure to accept credit cards are more outdated than China's one child policy. The hot dog that I had resembled something that might be served at an underfunded, inner-city charter school or something that would be wrapped in foil and flung at a raucous minor league baseball crowd. The "special" was simply toast with a rubbery slice of American cheese and bacon that was drier than a woman being hit on by Gary Busey. Grease permeates through the entire building and coats everything from the food to the receipt that we received at the end of our meal. The restaurant takes liberties with every aspect of the dining experience, from their definition of edible food to the spelling of basic words such as chili. I will not be returning. read more

We went to Franks this weekend for breakfast, never been there and will not be returning. On a Saturday morning the place had very few customers, not a good sign. We seated ourselves and waitress took drink order, brought coffee without any cream, sugar or spoon. Had to get up and get it. She took order brought food my order was wrong, I made her aware she just says oh sorry. I told her just take hash browns back I had wanted them in my omelette. Food was very greasey, she never returned to fill our coffee we had to get up and get it ourself. No jelly for toast we had to get that also. She brought the bill and that was the last time we saw her. No one picked up plates or anything, my husband went to counter for a small styrofoam container to go. Not a good breakfast place. So I'm a visitor to Zeeland for the day with my Sweetheart and we're hungry and looking for a true local place and found Franks. Tim and I liked our burgers a lot. It's a burger joint, burgers cooked on a flat top. The staff was really nice and remembered us when we came back for the second time. It's cool it's been family owned since 1924. There's nothing fussy or pretentious about Franks. I'll go back and so what if the regulars know what they want when they walk in the door. It's nice and I wish I had a Franks in my town. read more

Decided to visit downtown Zeeland. I was told about how good the burgers were. We sat in a back booth and the waitress was not friendly at all. Ordered our food, burgers were good but nothing to brag about. When we went to leave we were told "we don't do plastic" and we both looked at an older woman and said "what"? She said cash or check only. Leave your license and go down the block to the ATM and bring me back cash. After going down a block and spending an extra $3.50 fee to get cash we came back and a young girl said "THEY"RE BAAAACK" She took our cash and didn't even say thank you. I get it that this place has regulars but the rudeness would never make me go back there. Growing up in Zeeland, you can imagine I've been here quite a few times. I love looking at the clippings on the wall. I love to go with my grandpa. I have had only 1 bad experience, out of the countless times I've been. Me and my cousins go with my grandpa after school sometimes. I love the atmosphere of the place, and seeing all the old guys sitting at the round table near the back of the restaurant is amazing. I know they don't take credit cards, but that is just the way Frank's is. I love Frank's, and I'm glad I got to grow up so close to it. read more

Cool old time diner place in Zeeland, Mi. I ordered a patty melt and fries. Fries were very good and patty melt left something to be desired. At least half the bites I took of the patty melt were just bread as the small burger didn't cover the sandwich very good at all. I guess I expect a serving of meat that covers the whole sandwich-not too much to ask I don't think. I'm not one to love chains but I would prefer Culvers over Franks any day except for their fries. For the money I don't think the value was there at Franks especially when they are being skimpy with the one thing they claim to specialize in. Also wasn't sure what the deal was with paying. Waitress cleared my plates and ignored the money I left with the check. So after waiting awhile and her not coming back I rummaged in my purse and found the correct amount of money. Not sure if she was being lazy or you pay up front but her ignoring my money left me confused. I see now that I should be glad that I had enough cash on me as they don't take credit cards. Thankfully I did which is rare since I pay for most things with a credit card. With the prices they charge it's time to accept credit cards. read more

I just moved to the area and went to Frank's the other day. The sign read, "Franks - Best Burger Around". I was in the mood for a good burger. Unfortunately. I didn't find it at Frank's. The burger was very small (less than a 1/4 lb). Honestly, size wise it was only slightly bigger than McDonalds, Burger King, or Wendy's value burgers. The difference was this burger cost $4 whereas at any of these fast food joints it would have been only slightly over $1. I also would not have had to of listened to a bunch of old men who were only buying coffee talk very loudly (nearly shouting) at the table next to us. Alright, so maybe the burger is just that good that it justifies the price and small size. Wrong! The burger was overcooked. I think the statement best burgers around must have been put up when this store opened in 1920 and before there were any other burger options. For my money, I can get a much better burger and larger burger for only a dollar or two more at 8th Street Grille or 5 Guys. read more
