    Spaghetti & Meatball Bolognese Dinner

Came here for a double date and really enjoyed the experience. The environment is lively and welcoming -- you can tell this spot has a lot of tradition and has been a neighborhood favorite for a while. There were plenty of locals dining, which gave it a nice community feel. The food was solid overall. I had the spaghetti and meatballs -- the meat sauce was flavorful and the meatballs were decent, pretty classic and straightforward. The service stood out as especially friendly and attentive, which made the night even better. Definitely a fun place to come with friends or a date if you're looking for a casual, classic Italian spot with a warm atmosphere.

Not sure why this place has seemingly low reviews, but I had a good dinner at Fratelli's. The pizza was the best dish that we ordered - I loved how thin the crust was. The crust was more on the crispy side, whereas I wished it was a little softer. The Truffle Pasta was alright, but not as rich in flavor as other truffle pastas that I've had; however, it was a much more affordable price point, so I understand. The Eggplant Parm was solid and a good dish that balanced out the richness of the Truffle Pasta. Their bread basket is good too but sadly only the first basket is free, there is a charge for each basket after. The service was quick and the waitstaff was attentive - they were quick to take plates away. The interior has more of a dated feel, but it carries its own charm. Given the current review average on Yelp, I was a little nervous to try this place, but I'm glad I did! Solid Italian food without breaking the bank.

Came here on a Friday night with my family and it was awesome! Love the ambiance, they have a whole 2 walls of painted mural, very Italian feel. They have a couple seats outside too. The service was great. Food was really good and tasty. The warm chocolate cake with ice cream was amazing. We will definitely return. The first time before this I had the truffle pasta and that was amazing. There is a lot of parking in the lot.

Wine by the glass in $10 range and affordable bottles of wine as low as $35.

Lovely neighborhood Italian restaurant with good dinners at affordable prices. Coordinated and professional hostess and wait staff. Plenty of free parking. Highly recommended.

Tucked away in the corner of a strip center off Wirt, Fratelli's is a longstanding staple of our Spring Branch community. I came with a group on a weekday evening and since we had a private back room, I didn't get to fully experience the main dining room's ambiance (I know they have live music on certain nights). I am not the best judgement of Italian cuisine due to allergy constraints but I thought the Pasta Primevera was pretty delicious. I loved having a medley of veggies on my plate and the garlic sauce was a great pairing. It belongs to the empty plate club for me although I could've definitely used a bigger portion. I did see my friend ordered the "Linguine Pescatore Bianco" and if I had the chance to customize my order I would probably get that the next time. Overall fairly happy with my order, service was attentive and got everyone's order/drinks out fairly quickly. Would give this place another try!

Food: Excellent, Fresh and Clean Ingredients. Service: No complain, super tentative to guests and made sure you're taken care of. Ambiance: Cozy, as if you're dining in a neighbor Restaurant in Italy Conclusion: 10/10 will be my weekly.

Very good service. Great food. Wonderful ambiance. Tina is the best. Please ask for her when you go in. She'll take wonderful care of you and goes into great detail what is on the menu and what specials there are.

I came here for a holiday work party. The restaurant is beautiful inside and decorated tastefully for Christmas. We reserved the larger private room that can fit about 15 people. The service was ok. It took a while to get iced tea and a straw for it. I even walked around before they got busy just to look for a server. There's only one male and one female restroom for the entire restaurant. There's plenty of seating and small patio seating, so I'm not sure why there's a lack of restrooms. My co-workers raved about dishes they liked here. I went with the pollo piccata over the eggplant parm. I was worried that the eggplant would be underdone. I didn't really like what I ordered, so I ate one of two chicken filets, picked at the veggies, and had the noodles. I tried. The chicken was bland without the sauce. I love Italian food, and this was not my favorite. There weren't that many lunch options. It's a bit overpriced for the food quality. I'd rather go to Carrabba's or Olive Garden. There were a lot of people dining here when we left. It's just not for me.

Yesterday, I had a wonderful lunch here with a friend. I ordered off of the Restaurant Month menu. Their pear salad with melted Roquefort on arugula with tangy balsamic dressing was superb. Main dish was perfectly cooked salmon, a good sauce, buttered fresh vegetables & a pasta with mini chopped spinach & Parmigiana. Delicious! I enjoyed a lemon tart for dessert, except the meringue was too sweet. All of the wait staff was kind & prompt. Everything was made even more enjoyable with charming Italian murals, cloth napkins & tablecloths. I am already planning a return meal! Yummy!

    Is this a casual restaurant?

Yes it is, but most do dress fairly nice.

Has anyone been here since chef mark cox came aboard!?

Yes, and it was extremely disappointing... went from a great neighborhood Italian restaurant to an overpriced average restaurant. Best dishes were taken off the menu.

Just kidding LOL that didn't happen! Anyway, back to the point, sorry.. I like to mess around a little. I wasn't that hungry because I had food yesterday I ordered a kids cheeseburger burger with fries, a kids meal chicken tender with fries, a farmhouse burger, and the half chicken with biscuits. I also had the his biscus lemonade. Needless to say--well actually, quite needing to say since this is a review after all--the food was pretty good. Prices were a little crazy but it's become all to normal in this day and age. As for the food, I ordered a kids cheeseburger burger with fries , a kids meal chicken tender.. don't feel like saying all this again. As for the food, the service was pretty good I guess. The girl servers were pretty smart. The boy servers were a little less smart. Every time the guys brought food, they either stood there looking around, or attempted to place the food on top of other plates or napkins that were on the tiny table. I suggest maybe a boot/concentration program for the guys so they can concentrate a lil more. Ok, it's time for me to go. I'm gonna go to sleep after all the food. I forgot to mention what I ordered. kids cheeseburger burger with fries, a kids meal chicken tender with fries, a farmhouse burger, and the half chicken with biscuits. I also had the his biscus lemonade. The half chicken was obviously what they tried the hardest in. There were 4 types of sauce with it. They were all pretty good, but I didn't eat the chicken. The chicken tasted incredible-- so much so that I finished it completely. But I don't like eating around bones, I find it primitive. I'm more of a chicken tender kinda guy if you know what I mean. Oh yeah and for the food, I had a his biscus lemonade. It was SO good. Alright. And that is the end of my review. I hope I did t forget to list my food items because I've gotten hate messages calling me weird. Anyway, I'm out chat. Thank you to my faithful followers. I wasn't sure what to expect based on the name of the restaurant, but essentially their seafood options are spectacular. And it feels like an exclusive club because the decor and service are both very much high class and special. We tried the coconut shrimp as the appetizer and really liked it. It was lightly fried and the shrimp was cooked to perfection - not under and not over. I would highly recommend this one to start. Loved it. If you're looking for a fair-priced meal, they have lots of salad and sandwich options. I tried the salmon poke bowl and it was so delicious. The fish was extremely fresh, and all the flavors blended together really well. It was like a healthy party in my mouth. It was great decision. You wanna splurge a bit and live large like YOLO? You gotta get the crab cake. Now, how good can a crab cake be? Well, if you're paying close to $50 for one crab cake, you better believe it's gonna be freaking awesome. And alas, it was. Best crab cake I've ever had in my life, no joke. And I've tried a lot of crab cakes in my many decades of dining out. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant and will be coming back many times. Enjoy! Quick note on parking - plenty of parking in a huge lot shared by many businesses such as Kenny and Ziggy's. Only annoying part is several sections of the lot are designated for specific businesses, so just look for the signs and be willing to park a little bit further away towards Taco Deli and Bluestone.

I was excited to finally try Balboa Surf Club since I drive by it all the time and it's located…read morenear several of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in quite some time. We had an 8:00 PM reservation but weren't seated until around 8:30 PM. While delays happen and I was willing to overlook that, the experience only went downhill from there. We ordered Palomas to kick off our Friday night. The drinks took quite a while to arrive, and when they did, they were noticeably watered down. I politely mentioned it to our server, who quickly took them back and brought replacements, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the second round was nearly identical to the first. When I brought it up again, instead of acknowledging the feedback, the server responded by saying it was "just not a sugary drink." That completely missed the point. I wasn't expecting a sweet cocktail--I was pointing out that the drinks tasted diluted and poorly made. What bothered me most wasn't the drinks themselves, but how the feedback was handled. I wasn't looking for free drinks or trying to be difficult. I was simply offering honest feedback, and it felt like my opinion was being dismissed rather than heard. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. We ordered several dishes to get a good sense of the menu, and most were overwhelmingly salty. The salt overpowered any other flavors to the point that we couldn't finish some of the dishes. The sushi was the best thing we had, but even that lacked the presentation and quality I would expect at this price point. To be fair, the manager did remove the drinks from our bill as a courtesy, and I appreciate that gesture. However, by that point the damage had already been done. A resolution is only effective when guests feel heard and respected throughout the process. Instead, I felt like I had to defend my opinion and justify my feedback before anyone took it seriously. At the end of the day, a restaurant can be trendy, crowded, and beautifully designed, but none of that matters if the food and service don't deliver. Balboa Surf Club has the atmosphere and location, but in my experience it falls short where it matters most. Overall, I'm glad I finally tried it because I had always been curious, but now I know I won't be back and cannot recommend it. If you're looking for a similar concept, I'd recommend Hudson House. The atmosphere is comparable, but the drinks are consistently well-made, the food is much better, and the service has always been far superior.

We went on a Saturday for lunch. Hopefully this was just a one-off, but if you're looking for good Cajun boiled crawfish, this is not it. We started off with 6 lbs (group of 4) of their regular crawfish. First off, they put the Cajun seasoning on outside/shell (!!), which is a cardinal sin for Cajuns. They also minimally seasoned the boil, so the meat was lacking salt and flavor. We ordered 3 more lbs with the "wet sauce" (garlic butter), thinking the lack of flavor may be attributed to this being the first-ish batch of the day. Nope, the second batch was even less seasoned than the first. The sauce was good, but it didn't make up for the unseasoned meat. The crawfish were a good size, at least...
