Love going to Arturo's! It seems to be the hidden gem in that neighborhood. Very intimate, cozy and romantic but also a great atmosphere for family dinners. Arturo is a remarkably talented chef and has had various restaurants in Houston for years. I love the bread! My favorites are the mussels, house salad that is enormous - love the hearts of palm, and the shrimp pasta pesto. I'm sure everything is delicious and the seafood dishes have gotten rave reviews. Nice creme brûlée taste at the end! Wish they had a full bar but it's just beer and wine. Service is consistently good. Valet is available but I've never used it. read more

I didn't intend to eat at this restaurant initially, the restaurant across the street had a bar that was full so I decided to come here instead. Very quaint, but nice ambience inside, the wait staff were incredibly hospitable and put a seat at the bar for me so I thought that it was going to be a good experience. Unfortunately, the owner was incredibly condescending to me and even made a comment about "watching me "and that he had cameras. I am a person who spends a good deal of money at restaurants, and so I was incredibly appalled at his remarks. Saying something in a joking manner does not make it better. Please know that my server was amazing and I let her know about my experience, and she apologized for him and insinuated that this was not the first time he had offended a customer. This neighborhood gem is the complete package. The valet is a permanent fixture and is friendly and professional. Fresh and tasty specials every night, a wood burning oven for pizzas and rolls - and an excellent wine selection. Service makes you feel comfortable - as they have a professional and tenured waitstaff. The red snapper, carnitas pizza and mussels with the jalapeño/tomatillo broth are unique and worthy. If you have a party of 4 and you are very proactive - you can book the wine cellar table. Expect Arturo to say hello. Such a nice touch. And the crème brûlée spoons are perfect ending. Dear foodie readers, a new review, I have been a little off my game...a lot going on, but let's get to why you are reading this...Arturo Boada...nestled on del monte street in in the briar grove area...unfortunately the facade doesn't do it justice, but I felt it added to the charm of the whole experience...it's a small space, I recommend reservations...we were welcomed by the super friendly staff...once we sat down, we took in the vibe...I loved that it was just a tad old school...nothing over the top...and honestly no need for fancy, because his food is fantastic. We started with delicious garlic bread, along with the sautéed calamari....yes you read that correctly...sautéed, and let me tell you, wayyyy better than fried....the garlic and oil sauce was beyond amazing, we wanted to dab anything we could in it, it was that good. We also had the ceviche, was excellent as well. Our entrees next, I had one of specials, it was branzino with crab on top, sheer perfection. Simple no frills, and paired with some veggies...my husband got the tuna, and enjoyed it as well. My kids loved their steak and pasta. We then ordered dessert, 3 of them, we couldn't resist, I was celebrating my anniversary so why not. In house pistachio gelato, apple tart, and flourless chocolate cake...can't say which was my favorite, they were all wonderful. We really wanted to like this place. It had been on my list to visit, it's a little ways away from our place so we finally made it out tonight on a Friday. The place is small and never got packed all the way. We started with the fish tacos and they were 5/5 but sadly it all went downhill from there. The papas bravas were terrible with no flavor (1/5), the prosciutto with melons was lacking (2/5), it's not like it was aged or even 18 month prosciutto - probably lower than Walmart quality. Also melons didn't go well at all. We got the tuna tartar and I would give negative stars for that if I could. It was only acid,acid and more acid. Limey with orange slices and cucumbers - made no sense. Then came the paella which was subpar (2/5) and then the creamy pasta where I subbed the shrimp for chicken and that was somewhat ok (3/5) Right before we got the mains we had asked 5 times for bread. There is no balance - we got a bottle if Chateau Neuf but the wine list was confused - just slapped together. I wasn't expecting BCN or MAD but maybe an old school Costa Brava type vibe. Or even one of Arturo's old places from 20 years ago. He came by the table twice and he was just drunk. He was trying to be sweet but he came across pretty obnoxious. We over ordered so there might be something we would end up liking but even the crème brûlée on spoon was runny and not good. Hope they can turn it around. I've been coming to Arturo's since before it was famous. A business associate loves the place and lives nearby, and so I'd gone several times for business dinners. It was an excellent, quiet location for a business dinner. Great food, great service, reasonably priced, quiet and accommodating. Then it became the number one rated restaurant in the Houston area on open table. Since then I've been once for work and once tonight for a date. It's definitely busier and more lively, but very importantly the food and service have not suffered. Arturo personally came by two times during the meal to check on us on the most recent visit. We had the caprese, the spicy beef tips, the grilled salmon and the chicken breast provenazle. All were excellent, with the spicy beef tips being the stand out. Extremely intensely flavored, the beef was extremely tender, and it's the kind of thing you eat and don't forget. The chicken was also surprisingly good. And as always the complimentary spoons of creme brulee were a classy touch. It's a little sad to see this place discovered. But it's also great, and a testament to consistently good food and service. I've only been here once, first time on Wednesday 02/10 for a surprise early Valentine's dinner from husband. We were also accompanied by two of our kids (elementary kid and preschooler). The staff-awesome- in welcoming us to the restaurant, and even considerate to our kids. There were no eye rolls or scoffing, lol, at us. They offered custom off menu items for us as well, especially with children accompanying us. SERVICE: We were politely asked permission to have our temperatures taken and hand sanitizer, I absolutely love that it wasn't something forced upon us! Doors were held for us upon entry and exiting. Tables were separated well enough apart. Drinks refilled in a timely manner, plates moved in a timely manner, food was given in great timing, everyone was extremely polite including the chef himself, server knew the menu items, and just all around great service! FOOD: -Tacos Snapper-YUMMY, best fish in a taco I have ever had! Seasoning, flavor, moisture-it was all PERFECTION with the the fish. The tortillas, I wouldn't say it's store bought, but the taste similarly aligns with that. Overall, if you're a fish taco lover like me-this was still a good choice. -Cauliflower soup-YUMMY -Tuna Tartare-Decent, slightly salty -Charred tomato basil-eh okay, server warned us it wasn't like La Madeleine style tomato basil which we were okay with, but tasted like gas to me. -"Why Not" Margherita Pizza-YUMMY, even kids enjoyed this pizza dish, everyone did -Rigatoni Pasta-decent, chicken was more dry than wanted for me and pasta could've been slightly softer. Sauce was good -House spaghetti marinara side order- kids ENJOYED, I liked it as well. -Frutti Di Mare-Husband was absolutely DELIGHTED with this dish DESSERT: -Tiramisu-Not for me, I was not a fan with unexpectedly tasting an orange flavored Tiramisu -Key Lime Pie-although it definitely tastes homemade with real limes, it was too soggy and more tart than would like. -Wood oven baked Apple Pastry-favorite dessert of all for husband and kid, I didn't try -Creme brûlée- to be fair, we did not order this, but got complimentary spoons of tasting for this. I think getting the spoons didn't do it justice how we tasted it...so tip, I heard if it's your first visit and you don't order any dessert you may be able to get the whole creme brûlée complimentary. AGAIN, we have only been here once. Although some of the food items could have been better, the service made the entire experience feel like 5 stars. However, don't expect it to be five star dining with hot towels, someone waiting by your table to collect crumbs, seat pulling each time, and coat collection-it wasn't like that. Was looking forward to going to this place and was very disappointed. Camarones was good but expensive for the amount. Calamari, sauted, was tough and flavorless. We left /2 of it and waiter never asked if we wanted to take it or if there is anything wrong with it. Garlic bread was OK. Tiramisu did not taste like Tiramisu and had way too much cream on top of it. Overall, a disappointing and expensive meal. Will never go back. read more

This is the second restaurant of Chef Arturo's I've tried with the first at Arturo Uptown Cuisine, which is now closed. Upon entering the doors, I noticed how romantic and quaint Arturo Boada is. There were 12 tables, half filled with couples. You can reserve the small private table in the wine room. Perfect for date night, GNO, or what have you. Unfortunately, a GNO called in advance prior to our reservation. Service was fantastic. Don't remember his name but was very knowledgable and personable. Just very friendly throughout, from the valet guys to Chef Arturo. Food: Appetizers: Soft Shelled Crab (2/5): Daily special. Disappointingly, the dish was too garlicky. The pasta that was served beneath the crab was again garlicky. Octopus (4/5): Daily special. Octopus was delicious. I didn't try the salad, but the bites of octopus were fresh and tender. One of my friends squeezed one of the lemons on one side, so it was nice mixing the lemon and non lemon octopus bites. Tuna Tartare Sashimi Grade (5/5): I just highly recommend this. There was a perfect amount of Asian vinaigrette created with the dish. I would have ordered another one. Course: Snapper Al Fresco (4/5): Fresh tomato, basil, garlic, capers topped with jumbo crab meat. Tasty! I was actually looking forward to the crab meat than the snapper. There were probably 4 pieces of meat. Snapper was cooked perfectly. I would recommend this if you're looking for a lighter option. Desserts: Cannoli (2/5): These were rather small compared to the cannolis from the other Arturo's restaurant. I tried a bite and gave the rest to the friends. I'm not a big fan of sweet cream. Apple Strudor (5/5): I dislike apples, but my friend kept pestering me to try this. Oh my... I probably ate half of this. So delicious. I highly recommend. Apple pieces were inside the pastry. Texture reminded me of baklava, crispy on the outer and soft inside. Ice cream served with the pastry just added the missing touch. Crème Brûlée (3/5): We ended up with two orders of this. I personally don't like the burnt sugar on top, so I ate the inner with the strawberries. They serve this on spoons, about 6 spoons per order. I'm sure my friends ate about 2-4, and I ate one. Overall, we had a great experience dining at Arturo Boada. All of us left happy with a big food coma. read more

10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND. This place was hands down a gem of a dinner spot in Houston's Midwest neighborhood. I can't rave enough of how well the food was executed and served with warm service as well. I came here for my college graduation celebratory dinner and literally couldn't be happier with my reservation through the Yelp app/Open Table. The food itself is worth coming for, as practically EVERYTHING on the menu is AMAZING (and we ordered A LOT of food). I will say that my pizza cheese was so soft and fresh that it fell of the crust as I was eating it, but mamma mia the crust baked in the stone oven was #goals. The top two pasta dishes of the night were the crab-filled ravioli in their homemade cream sauce, as well as the shrimp fettuccine with cilantro pesto sauce (don't be shy to try it if you don't like cilantro--it brings out a pleasant balance to counteract the creamy sauce). Lastly, DO ORDER THE DESSERT. Our table's top three choices of the night were: Apple puff pastry a la mode, flourless chocolate cake a la mode, and tiramisu (with a light orange chiffon cake-like taste).
